I hope for your sake that you really entered your gmail account the very first thing you did with the phone? Otherwise you have a hardreset on your hands.
Certainly,
Otherwise It want be able to synchronize with my Calendar, Mail and Contacts from google account. And he did done it...
Any idea how to roll-back to the pattern screen?
Sorry to not be able to help but how many times is too many?
About 10/15 i think... Maby some more...
It should be in user manual

you might also try to input the wrong simcard PIN, PIN2, PUK and PUK2 (don't know if they call it like that everywhere...) too many times to see what happens. Its even better to know how you simcard works ;-)
just kidding, but i would actually just browse the net in order to check this kind of security locks instead of going full ahead and try it on my own device
I haven't been that adventurous myself to see what will happen if I get the unlock pattern wrong three times in a row but I have read that after those three times you will get a chance to enter your login information (login&pass) to validate your account information with Google... what happens then I have no idea of...

How bored were you?
Tested one more time - i'm already afret HR.
[nice one: Android Market displayed long time a go installed apps]
no need to remember what whas the name of app that does (...) did't know...
ok:
After 5x wrong input device locks for 30sec.
Then You need to make a mistake 10x and wait 30sec. more.
15x is the third limit... again 30sec.
then it locks it self for 30sec. every time when pattern is bad.
But there is no warning message at all :/
No gmail login authorisation.
Dont know why...

Hiya All,
Some serious thinking came across my mind couple of days ago...what if my device will get lost ? Any person that will find it will be able to view anything on my device such as contacts, calendar, notes and even use the phone.
Of course there is an option to lock the device but who the h*ll want to unlock it everytime he is starting to use it ?
What I was thinking is to send a restructive sms message or anything alike that will make a HR to the device or lock it with long enough password to avoid hacking.
Anyone has encoutered this kind of app that can make the above request ?
Any other usefull thoughts on this subject ?
Thanks in advance,
Bright Star
You could install One-Pass. It locks the PPC until a password is entered. WIth this software installed, no one could get into your PPC. They could get what ever was on your storage card, though.
I have an application I am in final beta stages that will hard reset the ppc,
based on a user defined code being sent via sms.
inane, does it hard reset when anyone sends the sms or does it recognise only certain numbers? Last thing I would want is my mates finding out about the message and sending it to me for a laugh!
There's an app that comes with the WM5 SDK that allows you to lock ur device via SMS but obviously you'd need WM5

Bright Star,
There is a commercial application available that does exactly that. It is named PDAKill. The developer is ScpSoft (http://www.scpsoft.com).
Here is a brief blurb from their website:
PDAKill is designed to protect users of PDA's from loss/theft of their devices. It allows users to send a predefined SMS message which will hard reset the PDA, deleting the user data (including the storage area* and Storage Card which eliminates any files surviving the hard reset) returning the device to its original factory settings.
You can purchase it from Handango for about $15.00. I've never used it so I can't provide you with any other comment. I just recalled reading about it.

PDAKill
Thanks alot Peter,
This looks like the s/w I've been looking after.
I'll buy it and give it a try.

Better back up your data first...
I still like one-pass better. It locks the screen with your user information showing. This allows an honest person who finds your PDA to call you and collect the generous reward you offer.
THe only way to get out of the 1-pass system is to do a hard reset, which kills the internal memory and storage.

Do you know where I can get this, I have the BlueAngel with WM5 and would love to use a program like this. I am sure that it would require a client install and the sms to the device would require some type of code.
Thanks
it would be cool if there would be a low level application which could reflash the boot rom with zero's and somehow disable bootloader mode and then preform a soft reset. the device could then be thrown into a trash without a service in a repair center...

no need to install One-Pass, just set the "prompt if device unused" to 0 minutes, then it will always ask for password.
Man if we could get a program like this it would be great (SMS Lock), and more than likely if someone finds your phone they are not going to know what to do with it...

What if they do a reset? I don't think the password is in effect at that time. You could require a password (PIN) for the phone, but I find that to be a hassle.
With one-pass, the phone won't complete the soft reset unless the password is entered.
It also allows you to program the buttons for a "quick password".
not to get too offtopic but I for a start would NEVER put important data on an mobile device. It's risky enough with some docs on my notebook but those are now going to be transferred to an remote encrypted server with an stable VPN connection.
PDAs aren't secure. PERIOD. I never store any important data on my Magician. The worst thing you'll find are the text messages to my gf, hehe. Btw i'm I the only one concerned about losing an € 500 device ?
Liking the boom-on-SMS idea tough. Will prob never use it. I use deltalock to lock the screen of my Magician. 9 of 10 ppl are too stupid to figure out how to unlock it. hehehe.

im running The RC33 version of JFv1.41.
somehow the "too many pattern attempts" popped up and now its asking me to login with my username and password. ive tried my username by itself. i tried [email protected] (which i originally used to register the phone) and i tried [email protected] (which i saw suggested in another post) and none of these work. anyone have any ideas? it just says "too many pattern attempts invalid username or password". i cant log back in.xi can still receive calls but cant get back to the home screen. im running The RC33 version of JFv1.41.
Even if you fail to enter the pattern correctly a few times, the lock should only be temporary. Although it sounds like you got permanently locked out, if I understand correctly... If it still doesn't take the username either, I'd just say reflash your phone with the update.zip
usually it says wait 30 seconds and i can try the unlock pattern again. this is the first time its asked for my email address and password again. it happened last night so i waited until this morning and its still asking for my email address and password and wont login. i guess i'll try reflashing the phone. thanks. will report back.
gmail.com and reset ur pass
i can login to gmail.com with my existing password. i dont think i want to mess with trying to reset my pass.
well its not like the world would end...resetting ur pass is real easy.
This happened to me once before. It had slipped out of its case and ended up being flopped around my backpack. Apparently some things in my backpack attempted to unlock my phone. It gave me the gmail login screen like the OP and wouldn't accept my pass. I ended up pulling the battery, and waiting a few minutes before inserting it again. Worked just fine when I put the battery back in. Of course, neither myself, or the T-mobile rep I called knew what may have caused it.

i reflashed the device after i did a nandroid backup and was able to login with my normal [email protected] account info. the thing is it was set back to factory defaults so all my info was missing (apps, setting, etc.). so that rules out an issue with my gmail account. i tried restoring the nandroid backup that i created before the wipe and reflash but the restore still contains the locked state of the phone and asks for username and pass. looks like my last option would be to try the suggestion posted by haykuro here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485988 otherwise i'll have to just start from scratch with the new flash.
Just shut the phone off ............ press and hold the home button, then press the power button until the phone vibrate, keep holding the home button untill you see yellow text on the screen, now open the keyboard and press alt and W at the same time. wait about 30sec then press the home and back button at the same time .... and there it is no more password

cant use this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485988 because phone is locked and dont have access to switch it to USB debugging as step 3 asks for "Step 3. Plug your G1 into your computer (via usb). (Settings -> Application -> Development -> USB Debugging, must be enabled [it is enabled by default in JesusFreke releases i think])" i assume debugging is turned off because when i try adb i get "device not found." i guess im going to have to start fresh and re-install everything. i still have the "locked" image i can restore and try to unlock if anyone has more suggestions. the weird thing is that it doesnt seem like its trying to connect to google servers when i enter my username and password. i hit "sign in" and it doesnt seem to do anything. really really really weird.

I think you should check your apn settings. I am sure that, they are wrong. Are you sure that you have 3g connection established before trying to unlock your phone? At the beggining i have locked my phone like yours, and i was trying a few times to unlock it, before understand that my 3g connection wasn't established. I have to delete ALL APN settings and the reAdd the only one that i need. You can try this too.
I hope this will unlock your phone.

Hello!
I have a problem with my hd 2.
Somehow I activated the phone lock, i'm not sure how it happened, as I know where the setting is and I don't recall activating it.
The problem is that I can't figure out how to deactivate it again (the check box "Prompt if phone unused for" is grayed out, can't uncheck it)
I can change the settings, like, how much time before it locks up or what password I want to use, but no disable.
I really don't want this phone lock to be activated so if anyone could tell me what to do to deactivate it i'd be most grateful!
Tried to search the forums for it but couldn't find anything.
Thanks!
try clearing the password fields, and changing the time to 0 minutes, and then see if it'll let you untick the box.
You can disable auto lock with BsB Tweaks. That's probably the easiest method.

MidnightDraven: thanks, I tried that but it won't let me clear the password field, just keeps saying that it's not allowed to keep it blank, even if I set the time to 0.....

I don't know what to say mate. I just set mine to lock and require a pin, but it let me untick the "prompt if unused" checkbox and blanked out the password for me when I did it. It's now back to the way it was.
Have you installed any software recently?

Figured out why it got activated!
When I setup the exchange connection for my workplace must be some sort of security policy, that forces you to activate the phone lock if you want to sync the emails, can't find away around it, but at least the mystery is solved

Hi,
I Have the same issue with exchange.
But there is no other option to disable it? some reg modification?
Hi all,
I've just got my HD2 and it's the first Windows Mobile device I've synced with my exchange server. Had the same thing and it really bugged me but I found a work around. If you're an Exchange admin (or you're in good with those who are), Google search for Exchange-2003-Mobile-Messaging-Part2-Uncovering-Device-Security-Policies - use the first link. You can disable the requirement for a password globally, or you can specify an individual user to exclude from the password policy. I've just added my username in as an exclusion and it works like a treat!
Good luck
guys, i have sth really annoying. whenever the phone is turned off and on again, i have to push down and AFTER that enter the PIN every time. i am unable to uncheck the mark not to ask for pin anytime. how can i get rid of it??

thank you.
Are you using email through an exchange server???
If so please try zenyee stay unlock...
yes i am using outlook exchange for my mails (push mail).
will try the mod. thanks!
hmmm. i downloaded this here: ht*t*p://journal.zenyee.com/2008/10/19/stay-unlock-goes-20-after-two-years/
changed the reg key in: HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies 00001023
when i launch the stay unlock application i can check/uncheck but not safe settings (error occurs).
again: when the device locks I only want the slide down function and no PIN afterwards.
please help
Strange, it should work just fine.
Maybe HD mini is not supported? You can try to contact the developer...
Good luck.
Im using the Zenyee Stay Unlock-app, and it works like a charm on my HD MINI.
No more forced pin-lock after 1 min!
Note: No registry changes had to be done either.

You can't. Not unless someone knows a way to get into his gmail. If you're just wanting to get recent pictures he's taken then you might be able to remove the SD card if he put one in it so she can have them for memories. But that's only if he didn't encrypt the SD card. You'd have to put the card into a card reader and put it in a laptop with a card reader.

You can use dr. Ketan's lockscreen security bypass .
It works like charm.
It resets the security to swipe unlock.
But this has be tested on custom roms or atleast it requires a rooted firmware , cause the file has to be flashed via custom recovery .
This is the file :

I did almost forget another option. The phone is probably not rooted. But if you took his carrier sim card out of the phone and put it in another phone that isn't locked and then go to www.gmail.com the right below the sign in area it will say "find my account" click on that. Then select the option to use phone number to recover account. Type in his phone number and have it send a text or call. You will now get the text or call on the new phone. Then follow the steps after you get his email to go back to gmail again and use the forgot password option to text you a reset link. "BUT BE WARNED! I THINK GOOGLE WILL LOCK THE HIS PHONE FOR 3 DAYS AFTER A PASSWORD RESET" Then after them 3 days have passed it will allow you to log in with the new password you made.

P.s. if he's using a pattern or a pin I think you have to get the pattern or pin wrong a certain amount of times before it will ask you to login with gmail credentials instead. And dare I say if this is of a more important matter of finding out something legal through his phone, I really hate to say this but if he is still at the morgue or funeral home he may have registered his finger print through the phones finger print scanner. Which you could then test with his fingers. Sorry didn't want to say that. But them are the only two ways I know.
