Hi,
Pardon me if I am wrong, but I am sure I could play video straight from the hero when I first got it. Today I was trying to play the demo video that comes with the SD card and couldn't (Astro file manager says "No Activity is available to display this file type"! Looks like I've accidentally uninstalled the default one (I had installed Meridian and Video Player from the market and then uninstalled them).
Can you guide me on how to restore it?
Ah sorry got it.. Meridian had defaulted itself on Astro.. clicked on "Open As" and "Video" and it worked!
Edit: Still can't open videos by directly clicking on them in Astro. Have to go through Open As. Any workaround guys?

OK, here's the backround info. My wife uses her T-Mobile MDA to log onto her jobs email server via EDGE. Her voice mails are automatically sent to her email, and she's been able to check her email on her MDA and be able to play them in the media player. All of a sudden, she says she's now getting an error message saying that a component is missing (I don't have the phone with me now). So, she calls me and asks me what I did to her phone. I have no idea what would cause this to stop working. Can someone help me brain storm? I know I should have the phone with me to describe exactly what the message is but I'm not able to get it from her at the moment. Just trying to think of some possible reasons.
Her phone is using the original T-Mobile USA ROM, we just added the following programs recently: 1) NoteM (which didn't work properly) 2) TodayAgenda 3) Smartbutton 4) Oxios Hibernate.
I also removed two programs: some T-Mobile Hot Spot manager (never uses wifi) and the other, I can't remember what it was. It was sofware that's been on the phone since we bought it new but I didn't think she needed it. I can't remember what it is for the life of me.
So, if someone has a suggestion, please let me know. Also, is there a list of all programs that came stock on the MDA?
OK. This is the error message I get when I try to download the WAV file for the voice mail: "The file 'VOICEATT' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."
It let's me download the file now but when I try to play it, I get the message above. Also, the file just has a generic white piece of paper look to it with the MS icon in the middle. She says this was working fine before, it just stoped working this week. BTW, I also added .NET Framework to her device last week as well. Added this because I couldn't get Smart button to work without it. She said it used to open in the Media player, no problems. Any ideas what might be causing this? Looks like the file is not recognized anymore.
Also, I just downloaded the same file to my Artemis and it shows up as a windows wave file icon. No problems playing it on my desktop or my phone. But the MDA will not recognize the file no matter what. What's even more strange is that I can play the file with MS Notes? It still has the same generic icon, but I can play the files in Notes, but not in WMP. What could have caused WMP to stop recognizing wave files? I can still play her MP3 on her storage card in WMP though.
Also, I added a Security Prompt Bug Fix to turn off the security. Before I added this, it wouldn't even let me download the file. Now it downloads but I just can't play it.

we just went to avaya voip at work and now get VMs in our email as well. i had the same issue, and couldnt figure out why WMP couldnt play WAV files... doesnt make sense. but anyways i installed TCMP (http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/tcpmp.shtml) and set it to be the default player for everything... when opening up wav files it still says unsupported codec. what the hell can it play if it can't play wav files? i ended up going to a different WM6 build where WMP would work (tested it just now). so the only thing i can suggest is finding a CAB for WMP and installing again or play around with the ten million WM6 builds...

I downloaded Conduits Meda Player and it plays the files but it wont automatically play the files when you click on them. I could not find a setting that would make it automatically open and play the file - it would just open the program. Then you had to open the folder where the file was stored. Since I also discovered that the Notes program would play the WAV files, I just uninstalled the Conduits prog, and now I'm having my wife just use notes instead. It's a little cumbersome, but until I can find a media player that can open automatically and play the darn files, may as well use Notes.

Since audio is basically all you need, try this great little app. This is the updated version, and has a settings option to play at open.
Enjoy!

By the way TCPMP does have a setting to "play at open"
In TCPMP go to Options>settings
[pict1]
Select page>player check box at play at open. Tap OK [pict2]
Hi, on the tabs on the bottom of our screens, when i touch the Library one, sometimes i get a picture of an album i never downloaded, called Paloma sidestepper.
The thing is, once i get this picture my Library function freezes, and i cant play any MP3 from my library, or even a cant play that Paloma one..
The only way i can listen to my music is by using the file explorer
Problem solved. It seems that Paloma was installed to Music folder by default but for somehow its was causing troublem to my player. After i spotted where it was and i deleted it, everything is back to normal
Seems like this problem should have a relatively simple solution, but after googling for quite a while, still can't figure it out.
A friend sent me a link directly to a .mov file. I thought I could just click the link and stream it. Instead, clicking the link in the browser brings up Twonky, which tries to get me to set up media sharing. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to just download (or stream) the .mov file to my phone.
If I can't steam, it looks like an app like arcMedia would allow me to view it once on my phone - but again, how do I get the browser to download instead of trying to open up Twonky when I click the link to the file?
Also, every time Twonky starts, there seems to be no way to close it except togo into settings/applications/running services and close it from there - is there an easier way?
Download act one video player. Works great with streaming media and videos on the sd card

Thanks for the response. I found out that apparently Twonky tries to launch any file that the phone doesn't recognize. I tried to download a few video players including Act 1 that appeared in the "perform action with" dialog when I attempted to open the .mov file directly by clicking it within the email, but none of them worked to actually play the file.
I figured out I could download the .mov file if I went to my email using my browser and long-pressing the link and selecting 'save link' (long-clicking didn't work from within the email program...from there, it just opened the browser and automatically initiated a short-press which tried to stream and brought up Twonky). Once downloaded, then I was able to play with an alternative player (in this case - Vplayer worked, although this particular player didn't seem to support streaming as it didn't appear as an option in the "perform using" dialog that opens when short-clicking the link).
i hate how twonky wont let you download files i have removed it. so i could at least snag the file and keep for when i get home...
I had an old tablet that I would use ES File Explorer on and be able to connect to my home network. When I went to open anything from it, I'd get a menu pop up asking me what program I wanted to use to open the file up. My old tablet was underpowered though and couldn't really stream anything because of it.
I now have a Nook Color and I'm running CM7 on it. I've downloaded ES File Explorer, setup network access and I'm able to access my files. However, every time I try to access a file through my network, it tries opening up the file in ES File Explorer. I don't get any popup menu asking me what program I'd like to use. ES File Explorer won't let me stream any video files and I have several other programs installed and would like to try to stream through them.
Can anyone help me out here? What am I missing that would allow me to choose what program a file will run through?
Thank you!
I had the same issue awhile back. Just went back after reading your post and its no different. Since then I've been using TVersity to stream my video.
You can try to clear default action for es file explorer in the application manager under settings (sorry, my nook is in french, i haven't the real translation of menu names..)
I've been looking for a good program. I might try buying plex as it's on sale at amazon this week. But honestly, I can't give you any other advice. If i end up getting it, I'll let you know.
EDIT: Just read in it's description, not optimized for tablets or larger screen. So that's not going to work for us. Sorry.

Did it work and allow you to select a new default player? It didnt work for me
Edit: I tried deleting and re installing. It allowed me to select a new default player for local files only. Still cant select new video player for network files.
Thanks for the reply guys. I couldn't get it to work either, so I ended up just installing cifsmanager and mounting my file server. I still then have to use a different file browser to select what video player I'm goig to use, but that's not much of a big deal.
I haven't been streaming anything, but I was using ES for quite a while, and ended up trading it in for File Expert, which is a bit more polished and doesn't give me the issues ES did. I just tried, and wasn't able to stream media with Moboplayer, but File Expert did give me the option to choose an app, so maybe it would work with a different video player.
It was a little odd how it worked: navigate to video file, tap, and it prompts me to choose a web browser (?); once the browser opens, however, I get a new prompt to choose a media player. Like I said, Moboplayer failed to play the files (tried .avi and mp4), but you said you had other players that might work.

Rockplayer Lite should play those files.

You are correct, thanks I would recommend File Expert over ES in general, and it looks like it would also solve your problem, though I see you took other steps already.
hi guys im using onecosmicsICS port rc3 at the moment, ive noticed there is a RC4 available, but it uses AOSP music instead of google music, (RC3 used google music), i was wondering if anyone could give me a detailed 'idiots guide' to completely removing AOSP music player and then replacing it with google music player, so that only google music player would appear in the app drawer.
thanks in advance
Hi
I have just installed rc4. I will check and report back

I had the same concern after flashing my phone ICSSGS RC4.2, I liked the Google Music Player more than the AOSP Music. Well this is what I did to get it back. First I cleared the cache of the AOSP Music in the RC4.2 then I clicked on Disable, You might get a warning pop-up you can ignore it. Then I Googled for ICS Music player and found a link then downloaded the apk file and installed it. I felt really happy to get the Google Music back but I had few issues with it. The player was too laggy and it took ages to load the Album Arts. So I uninstalled it and installed Market Enabler from the market and selected the country as USA AT&T. Then I opened the Market and Searched for Google Music, then I installed it from the Market. This version works flawlessly and it is the same as what was in the RC3.1. If you are in US or any other country which already has Google Music support then there is no need for you to install the Market Enabler. Just try searching for Google Music in Market first. Cheers...!!!
You should easily be able to replace the music player by doing the following:
Get Root Explorer from the Market.
When installed, open it and go there where the new music.apk is
(long press it and chose either copy or move)
Now scroll up to the top and chose "previous folder" until you're in the first possible.
Look for folder system and open it.
Look for folder app and open it.
First of all hit the button "Mount R/W" on top so that you can delete or add files in this folder.
Scroll down til you found the old music.apk, long press it and delete it.
Now just hit the "insert" button on the bottom and it'll put the new music.apk which you chose "copy or move" before into the app folder.
Restart your phone for the new apk to be shown in app drawer.
Just one more thing. In system/app don't delete or edit any other files than music.apk or else may your phone doesn't work right anymore
