Vogue Tether in Linux - Touch CDMA General

I use pdanet with my vogue on windows Vista. I've decided to get rid of windows all together if I can, but the only way for me to get internet at home is tethering. So if I can get it to work with my ubuntu then I can ditch my vista. I've searched with no luck on getting anything working with this phone. Has anyone here usb tethered the vogue to ubuntu or linux? Thanks

I have a script at home for ubuntu that will tether with WinMo... the only thing is I am working a night shift right now, but if you do me a favor and reply to this thread tomorrow I will post it here
If anyone knows how to tether Android to Ubuntu that would be fantastic

PDANET is crap, and pointless with the vogue, windows mobile comes with an internet sharing program on the phone, just enable it and plug it in. on windows the drivers come with activesync. here's a simple walkthrough for vista and internet sharing. http://www.windowsmobilecool.com/2008/10/internet-sharing-love-laptop-windows-mobile-phone/
attached is a picture of internet sharing on my vogue running NFSFANS 6.5 rom
To get the drivers to tether in ubuntu go here.
http://1n73r.net/2008/10/16/how-to-tether-windows-mobile-to-ubuntu
that works for me.
if you get the following error when running make
Code:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.28-15-server/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
then run the command
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

Thanks. I've tried the internet sharing program in windows but it gives me more difficulties staying connected than pdanet does. I'll give the drivers a try for ubuntu, thank you.

PPC6700 USB Modem Drivers on VISTA?

Ok i just got a new laptop which is loaded with the new (but crappy) microsoft vista operating system. first off let me say this, vista is an ultra headache to deal with! i dont recommend anyone using this operating system, unbuntu (linux) is way easier than vista.
anyways, back to where i was going.... my other laptop, which is loaded with windows xp, succesfully installed the usb modem drivers for the apache 6700. but whenever i try to install the same exact driver on my new laptop it says "windows cannot find the specified file"! i pointed the driver file , .inf, to the correct directory and everything. i downloaded another dialer and driver file and put it on the desktop, still windows cannot find the file even though i point windows to it (cot damn vista!).
this leads me to believe that this driver file does not work under vista. can anyone else confirm this or tell me what im doing wrong? i tried many different ways of install the driver, but vista fails. please, can anyone help me?
no body huh?
vista and dun
i too have the same problem with vista... i have read and tried several "solutions" to this but none have worked for me- my computer keeps installing a treo driver which doesnt work- funny part is i can do a BT DUN @ about 115.2kbps but if i push it too hard the phone freezes... i have been thinking about installing xp on my brand new laptop that came with vista.
Anyone figure out how to install USB drivers on Vista, mines also installs Treo Drivers on its own i can't stop it from doing that, any insight?
I am using a PPCGeeks Rom (LennySH i think) and it has an application called internet sharing. When connected with my Vista laptop the laptop uses it automatically for internet no additional drivers needed.
It also has a bluetooth setting that Vista will use to connect to a "personal area network" and your online without the cable. However the usb connection is faster.

Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device Driver

Had a search and found 1 or 2 things but they never worked for me. Anyway I have complied this driver for Windows XP so all you need to do is add it to your Internal Storage, plug it in to your computer copy it to your PC, then set your phone to internet sharing. When it moans that it dosn't know where the driver is, point it to them and it should work.
I just tested it on an XP machine and it worked so hopefully it will work for you.
If there is already a solution for this please let em know.

4.2.6 USB tethering
I downloaded the drivers but don't know where to put them. I think I'm not doing something right.
1. Plug in phone via USB (dont' have "Wireless tether for root users running")
2. settings / wireless controls/ "click" internt tethering
3. go to PC and wireless network connections, select G1Tether and click connect. it will not connect
is this a driver problem? do i need "wireless tether for root users" running?
help
thanks... vista and windows 7 has the drivers inbuilt but not for windows xp..
Driver works on Magic 32A with SuperD 1.5.1, WinXP SP2.
Thank you very, very much
Maciek.
Worked beautifully for me!
Worked great for me!
Thanks,
Ambarish
I cannot get these drivers to work. I'm using an xp machine and every time I turn on the usb tethering, it automatically installs drivers identified as "HTC remote ndis remote device" and it has a big yellow ! next to it. I tried pointing at your folder for the device wizard and it says it couldn't locate better drivers to install. What am I missing here?
I have the same issue with you, waiting for the solution.

Try tell it that you will select the driver manually. Then click the "Have Disk" button and point to the inf of this driver. That should install it regardless of what Device Manager thinks is the best drriver.
Been having trouble getting wired tether to work also. In device manager I had a yellow "!" sign on USB composite device, installed the driver from this thread and the caution sign disappeared - still no tethering though
I suppose I'll just have to make do with wireless tether.
when I point that file as the driver it tells me it isnt for that device.
Connect your phone, then when it says it has found new hardware but cant install it, go to the device manager, double click the and click reinstall driver.
Point the folder to where ever you saved the driver too and it should install.

Works
Worked for my Nexus 1 Cyanogen 5.0.5
Thanks to you for posting this and to the user who posted the info about vista and 7 having the driver already. I was scratching my head as to why this worked on my home laptop (vista) and not my work laptop (xp).
i got an old fossil
Windows 2000.....is this possible?
Thanks you! Something that finally works!
I have a question. My PC at work still has its normal LAN connection through a network card. Now I have this second connection through my G1. If I make a web request with Firefox, which connection will it use? Do I have to disable the LAN connection to guarantee that it uses the G1? Or is there someway to make Windows default to the G1 if it's attached, and use the LAN otherwise?
Works for USB tethering using Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Windows XP
Thanks for the driver. FYI I was able to use it with Android 2.2's built-in USB tethering and Windows XP SP3.
Unrooted Nexus One with stock Android 2.2 (Froyo)
this worked for me, thanks!

[SOLVED] Virtual Machine running Windows with ADB

I am using my laptop for ADB currently, but I want to know if it is possible to run ADB through windows in a Virtual Machine? I have gotten to where I have ADB running and the VM reconizeds the phone but as soon as I type,
Code:
adb devices
There is no response. Side note: I am using VMware and am running Tvall's CM7 on my phone.
Edit: solved was a driver issue
adb works when drivers for adb were installed
did you install drivers from Android SDK Tools?
at second you need turn usb debugging on (settings/applications/development)

Yes I know this. The virtual machine knows the device is there(ADB drivers are installed) but in cmd it doesn't work. USB debugging is on, another option is the wireless ADB from CM7, but I have no idea how that works. Thanks for the help.

When connecting phone through usb debugging there is 'Android USB Devices' section in Device Manager (My Computer / Manage / System Tools / Device Manager). Do you have this section while connecting?
Wireless adb application establishes connection via custom port and adb can use this port to communicate with phone.

In device Manager it has "Android Composite ADB Interface" and a "HTC Android Device" My VM connects to HTC Android device, not letting me connect to it in ADB. Before I connect my device and before it installed the drivers I installed the Google driver package from AndroidSDK. Thanks for your help.
How did you fix it?

So how did you end up fixing this? I want to connect my phone to the VM.
This is happening to me right now. I have a VM Windows 7, it can detect a "HTC Android Device" but the platform-tool command line cant detect my phone. Even with ADB USB drivers, platform-tools, as well as HTC-sync installed.
How did you fix it? Please tell me

I uninstalled all the drivers (with USBdeview) and instead of installing with the Google Driver I used the HTC one for MyTouch 3G. I think I installed the drivers before I plugged in the phone. And also what software are you using to run your VM?

I am using Oracle VM Virtualbox. Doing VM Windows 7 under Ubuntu 11.10.
I have been trying a few times in the VM Windows 7. I tried the lastest HTC Sync 3.0.0.0 as well as the older version 2.0.3.3 that worked when I was using full Windows 7.
But in VM, nothing works
The VM win 7 can detect a USB Composite Device, but it cant find the correct driver.
edit:
Oh my god!! hopefully you still havent read this post yet because I just got it working!
In the settings of the VM, theres an option to enable USB 2.0
But to enable that, we must install the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
It works!
edit2:
but somehow the transfer speed is really slow...
i guess i will just install windows again dual boot it
Yay! Congrats if I helped at all please hit the thanks button.

Not until you tell me about your VM
I want to know that because at the moment the transfering and intallation of APK files in Oracle VM VirtualBox is utterly slow (comparing with my old Win7 days), I am interested in other alternative VM which might be faster.
I see you mentioned VMware in you first post, I went to their website (link) but I see a lot different products... can you tell me which one you used, can you please tell me more about your VM?
Thanks in adcance.
edit:
Hey there again, I fainlly got VMware working.
I went for VMware Player 4.0.2. But for Ubuntu 12.04, we need a custom patch the VMware before it can run gracefully.
Not I have got it running now, VMware is so much faster than Oracle VM.
Thanks for the suggestsion!

Clockworkmod tether not working in windows 10

I have 2 phones, a samsung galaxy note 4 (tmobile) and a zte zinger (tmobile). One is a flagship, the other is a temporary replacement. I've attempted to get clockworkmod tethering working on both, but the tethering program wouldn't start. I'm on windows 10 as the title says, and I've done everything from uninstalling and re-installing clockworkmod tether on windows and my phone to disabling driver signature to re-install drivers for both phones, as well as replacing the ADB files from a fresh/latest install for ADB into the win32 directory to running it in compatibility mode and/or administrative mode. I verified my copy of ADB works inside C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Tether\win32 so I know it's not that.
Here's the only line (or 2) from the log output:
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Tether
""
And then it stops.
Same here. I upgraded, and I can't uninstall OR reinstall the app either. It says I need to insert the CD-ROM for the software -.- Seems like an MS issue, but hell, who knows?
Sadly Koush hasn't made any updates to the app or PC software since February and seems to be ignoring all support requests (I've emailed, left a bug report, etc and got no response whatsoever). Windows 10 has definitely broken something with the tether, but without the dev's help I doubt it's fixable.
Just want to add that I am having the same problem. All i get is "C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Tether". Hopefully this gets fixed. I doubt Ill ask for a refund since Ive used the hell out of this app, but I do not want to buy another app just for Win 10.
Exactly the same here. Very frustrating.
Exactly the same here. Looks like a MS or windows 10 problem.
Hope the dev can fix it.

guess what.. same problem.. emailed and no response from tether anyone have a fix yet?

This really sucks. I only went to 10 on my laptop to test it out. Sadly its the only thing that uses tether. :crying:
*PDANet+ works great for USB tether. Not so much with the hot spot feature. The full version is $8 so eh... It works though! No root needed for USB tether with PDANet.
Has @Koush released the source for the PC side app?

Looks like he took the money and ran. Very unprofessional. Everyone needs to remember if/when he releases a new app. I will be the first to say HELL NO. not getting my money.
Windows 10 android tethering apps
I'm on metropcs (t-mobile carrier) on the 'unlimited plan'. I came here seeking support for clockworkmod tether under Windows 10. I am not willing to 'downgrade' back to Windows 7 behind Clockworkmod's lack of support. I can report that the paid versions of both PDAnet and EasyTether work well enough. I would prefer Clockworkmod for the sole reason that it uses real/regular ADB as its middleware, so I can still use other apps like Vysor (to control my device) while tethered. Unlike PDAnet and EasyTether which seem to use hacked version of adb and prevent any other normal usb-pc connectivity (no regular adb apps, so no vnc/vysor). That's a big deal for me since I put my phone is an external antenna holster, because the android device is my sole source of Internet, here, and the ability access my phone via the computer screen makes my life easier. I hope CWM Tether gets fixed, but since they don't seem to care I hope someone comes along with a better product (using real ADB and more support).
Same here - doesn't work on Windows 10
@Koush - you gonna man up?
Guys, I've finally made CM Tether work on Windows 10!
Installation guide for Win10:
At first install CM Tether on your PC as usual.
Then get OpenVPN installer (you can google it)
Uncheck all checkboxes except TAP Virtual Ethernet Adapter in installator if OpenVPN isn't needed.
Install it.
Just run Tether as admin.
It worked for me, contact me if it didn't for you.
thanks
Thank you so much t1meshift! This one worked for me!

Good info, but rather than downloading the OpenVPN installer, get just the TAP-windows NDIS6 package instead.
filename is tap-windows-9.21.2.exe, available from same OpenVPN download page.
Then it works! Awesome.
