Hello,
i want to change my Ameo in a new one because there are a lot of scratches on the front body. The reason is that the keyboard slipping on the surface of the body.
If any one have the same problem please Post it here because i want to show T- Mobile that this is a failure of construction.
Mine is exactly the same, I tried to take a picture, but it wasnt comming out very well, I was quite annoyed because I tried to keep it good. Does anybody know if this happens with the black ones or is it just silver. mine isnt insured and T-Mobile wouldnt entertain me for insurance because it was 3 months old. though I have heard you can insure it online somewhere.
i've got the same kind of scratches at exactly the same positions.
but i don't think t-mobile will do anything about this
i'ts a normal sign of use
I have some scratches as well, fairly similar to yours. I'll have some pics made if I can get a hold of a good enough camera.
I have a scratch at the bottom of the screen surround. The keyboard clear top has a tiny bump on it (from where it was moulded i think) and this has scratched the case! If it had a decent leather case then it wouldnt happen!
Same here, Same scratches, same area..
Guess we need to find a decent case to carry our precious around in...
Something that has some padding between the 2 parts.
Mine doesn't have this problem. Not a single scratch at all. It still look brand new. I don't use the keyboard or the leather case though. I just carry mine "naked" with my DIY belt pouch. I just have the standard free plastic screen protector over the screen area only and not the body.
This is ironic. The keyboard is supposed to protect but does the opposite.

It definetely does protect (the screen from cracks).
And imho some scratches on the body of the ameo are much better than a cracked screen
You now, we are speaking about a 800€ all in one device? Such a failure must not happen. If you had a 800€ Notebook with the same problem you would complaine about.
This is what my U1000 looks like close to the VGA camera on the front.
There are 2 more areas where I have some damage but I can't capture it properly on camera.
This is why we should take out insurance on our most expensive phones, as i hate scratches on my phones and if you complain about it with your provider/supplier and they are not willing to replace it when its a manufacture defect then i would personally claim on my insurance QUOTE (MY PHONE IS LOST/STOLEN TO GET BACK A REPLACEMENT) Its too expensive a device for it to scratch so easily.
I have the black HTC Advantage and I have the scratches too.
I have the black Athena and barely any scratches on mine. I use the stock case. The only time I got it scratched is when I first got it because I tried to use it without the case. Mistake on my part.
If you search the forum, you can also buy a $25 solution that protects your entire Athena. It's a plastic transparent covering that protects the entire body of the device. I think I may have posted it in the past to the accessories area. Well worth the tiny investment to protect the looks of your device.
Yep, I have the Black HTC Advantage X7500 and I have no scratches on it. I also do carry naked in my pocket especially around the office to meetings. However, I do feel I need something to protect it without gaining the bulk. I am still looking for a belt clip to carry it.
Just found this product.
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/HTCX7500.html
Read good review on PocketPCThoughts for a different product.
Has anyone tried it? It states as full body shield which includes guards for keyboard as well.
Looks Intresting.. But we all know that these type of solution are never as easy to install (Esp. as there are 8 pieces for the Athena)
as they are in the Promo vidz. The vidz also mention that the film has Adhesive on it. How would this affect the deve by:
1. Discoloring over time
2. Being able to easily remove the film, if need or if damaged.
3. Being removed from the screen, without pulling the touchscreen's
touch sensor film off.
Has anybody tried this stuff yet? I think I'll wait for more feedback before I buy.

From some of comments, it seems easy to remove from a pda.
I don't know if that comment was from someone who works for ShieldZone though.

I just ordered one. I'm having it shipped via 3 day UPS. I'll post my thoughts once I try it out. For the cost it's worth a try. They also have a lifetime replacement policy so if they get screwed up you get a free one. We'll see how it goes.

I have it on for over 4 months. Search this very forum for an extensive discussion on it. Easy to install with the water spray bottle provided. The screen protector is a bit sticky so I took it off and used a regular one.
Don't ask any more questions. Just search for the original thread here

My review of the screen protector from Nushield.
(Purchased 2 anti glare, 1 clear model screen protector [comes in a package of 3 only]~ 12 USD)
Install:
-Installation is pretty straightforward but requires some experimenting to get the film in.(Doesn't use a sticky film, but rather a slide in)
-Warning, Make sure that there is no dust under the screen! It is a pain to take out. Trust me i know, i accidently wasted a film by bending it to take it out.
-When you first get the product, u might think that the screen protector they sent you wasn't yours since it looked to big to be fitted in. But actually it fits perfectly once u manage to slide all sides in.
Sensitivity loss:
-On a scale of 10(10 meaning no sensitivity, and 0 meaning no screen protector) it receives a 1.
-However, I did find a HUGE improvement in the touchflo scrolling than without the screen protector.(If you own a kaiser, you should know of the smears and awkwardness of sliding ur thumb to scroll.)
Overall feel and look:
-I actually dont notice it, and it is fingerprint proof.
-Using touchflo feature, the thumb easily slides across with no smears, in other words i dont get that suction feeling.
-And dont forget this is a slide in, so you dont get those bubbles you get from using the provided screen protector you got with the kaiser. The screen protectors surface is really smooth, its like sliding a thumb across a sheet of printing paper)
PS: I have not tried the clear film yet, and dont think i have to. The antiglare film seems to be secure and feels as if it can last years...
My rating for the nushield screen protector is a 9/10.(would be 10/10 if it was easier to install, but then it wouldn't work as good )
As for purchase instructions, go to www.nushield.com and choose the HTC TYTN as for screen specs since it is the same as the kaiser. (I was foolish to try to custom make the screen protector for the kaiser only to realize that its the same size as the tytn!!*got email telling me that *) You can mix and match as i did by putting which films you would want under the comments on checkout.
Thanks for that, i was looking for a good screen protector but i didnt want those sticky ones. This is perfect and from your review, it seems to do a great job too!
Thanks, i just ordered one, but as you said, there was no 'kaiser' ones so i just ordered it for the tytn
I'll always be a fan of PocketPCTechs.com's WriteShields. And during October, you can get 20% off if you use this coupon code: PPCTRC1007
Type it into the Special Instructions field.
Just as an FYI to anyone else considering ordering the NuShield: I decided to try some based on this review, and also decided to get two anti-glare and one clear. I got the following response:
While we are always trying to be accommodating to our customers
special requests, this one has gotten out of hand. Someone must have
posted on a discussion board that we will do this. This request is
now occurring several times daily and represents a significant amount
of time and effort to put these special packages together.

Guess they don't like doing that very much.
EDIT: and fwiw, they appear to currently be out of anti-glare anyway, so I ended up ordering clear.
Martin Field's OverlayPlus
Best. Screen protector. Ever. Period.
It's non sticky, invisible, and best of all: If you mess up (e.g. bubbles, dust) while putting it on, you can just rinse it off with water, let it dry for a few minutes (or blow dry), and voila: It's clean and sticks again.
I've been using these things on my mobile phones, PDA's, Nintendo DS, etc, for as long as I can remember. Even after 5 years, you can simply take the screen protector off and your screen will look brand new.
Already have a small scratch? Put the screen protector on and it's gone

I thought the 8525 is the same as the TyTN, and the screen protectors for it won't quite fit the Tilt.
But you can confirm these will fit the Tilt?

Unless it's an unusually small screen protector for the TyTn/8525, you are correct that it will be too large for the Tilt. I had to trim about a millimeter off of each dimension of my Boxwave ClearTouch Anti-Glare for it to fit.
I really like the Boxwave protectors. I had one protector last for over two years on my Treo 650, and similar to another protector described, if you want to clean it just use hand soap and water and stick it right back on.
In fact, I found that if the protector is slightly wet, it is much easier to get the bubbles out. It took almost no effort after I trimmed it when I put it onto my Tilt's screen.
So do any of these make the screen easier to see in direct sunlight?
I just ordered 2 BRANDO superclear ones ... have had a lot of phones and have had a lot of screen protectors but i have to say brando is DEFINATELY the best.

I confirmed it in my review. BTW Dont be stupid and trim it, it fits perfectly, trimming it would cause it to be loose once its in which will become an annoyance.
I just received the overlay plus screen protector for the tytn, and it does not fit the kaiser screen. The tytn overlay is larger than the kaiser's screen. I hope martin fields accepts exchanges.

keep trying to fit it in, if you read the original review he says that it's very hard to get it in there, but once it's in...it's gonna do good.
I was able to fit it in but its not on perfectly because the overlay uses a silicone adhesive, which makes it somewhat difficult to maneuver unlike the nushield screeprotectors which you just slip in.

wait....i think this is a case of miscommunication, I thought that you couldnt insert the NuShield protectors in, so I said to keep trying because the original poster said that it took him a little bit, but now it seems like you are talking about another kind of protector.
Conclusion: I'm confused
a lot of 99 cents only stores have 10 for 1 screen protectors that are larger than the kaiser. i bought like 5 of these (50 count) and just cut them to the size of the manufacturer's protector. it takes about a minute and avoids the highway robbery of screen protector prices.

aaaah, makes sense. I already have my 6gb micro sdhc and my nushield protectors...im just waiting for my kaiser
Nushield now has a drop down menu for Tilt in ATT and TyTn II in HTC sections. I will order them since it seems like a pretty good value.
i ordered a shield from shieldzone.com
i have used them on my blackjack and digital camera, but never a PPC device so I will have to see how well it works..
I bought an el cheapo one from ebay and not only does it feel horrible to the touch the edges are starting to fray. I had bought one for my ppc 6700 like 2 years ago that looked like nothing was on the screen and had great tactile feedback, which ones do you recommend for our kaisers?
I have purchased many screen protectors from cheap sites as well as expensive ones. My favorites are the ones from InvisibleShield. They are a bit more expensive, but they are very precisely cut and last a long time. If they ever get scratched you can get them replaced for free as well. I have not tried BodyGuardz, however, which are the same price, but you get two instead of one in the package.
I like the Boxwave Cleartouch a lot.
If you are anything like me, buy the three pack because you'll probably mess up at least one putting it on. While they say you can wash and reuse them, I don't think it's worth it.
That and a can of compressed air to blow the dust off before you put it on and you should be good.
Side note about using a compressed air can - don't use the straw. I had it blow off directly at my screen and thought my screen was permanently damaged. Thankfully, I had been using the screen protector that came with the tilt which has a bit of adhesive on it, so I only "scratched" the adhesive.

I have one of the InvisibleShield HD ones on mine, it is really crisp/clear, doesn't really show fingerprints at all, and its been on my phone for a few months now, and still looks like new.
The only thing I'm not sure of, is that it seems like it may reduce some of the sensitivity of the touchscreen because it is thicker, YMMV though.
I also have the bodyguardz themselves on too, and I'm not nearly as impressed, I'm probably going to pick up one of the Seidio slim rubberdized cases, just trying to spread out the accessory cost right now
I like...
... the one it came with. Still looks new.
im in the UK, i buy 3 screen protectors for asda for £2.99 (guessing thats about $5), so id guess walmart would be a good place to look for cheap ones.
ive had to cut it down to size for my hermes but the screenie i have on it has last over a year
ive also put these screenies on family and friends phones and cameras, no one come back to yet complaining.
My first windows mobile device was in 2002 and i tried every cover for it. From cheap ones to a couple of the more expensive ones. One of which was the PocketPCTECHS writeshield protector.
I bought the double pack, which came with the Antiglare one, and the Crystal Clear one. I applied the Crystal Clear one and it was amazing... i never used the anti-glare till i got my next device and threw it on that one.
They are very durable, can barely tell they're there and are just amazing...
But for my kaiser, i just ordered the invisibleshield for the entire device so i thought, why not let me try their screen protector out and see how it holds up.
so till i try out the invisibleshield, i'm still recommending pocketpctechs.
Martin Fields. As long as you install it properly (cleaning part is very important), you don't even know it is there.

Registry tweak for screen sensitivity really helps
Think if you using the highe durability thicker screen protectors the increased pressure sensitivity will help alot - am just using the one that came with the TILt on it and it greatly improves tactile feedback and response is almost instantaneous with very minimal pressure
Q: How do I increase the sensitivity of the touch screen?
A: If you want to increase the sensitivity of the touch screen, I recommend setting the registry key (HKLM\Drivers\?TouchPanel\Pressure Threshold) to 5000. It may seem a little high, but the response time is practically instant, and very little pressure required (still enough to avoid accidental presses).
thoughts concerning Martin Fields & Expert Shield protectors
Mine is another vote for the Expert Shield and/or Martin Fields.
Just got it at around seven bucks shipped from eBay. I (prior to this) ordered a Martin Fields and had a difficult time applying it to my Tilt without creating air bubbles. I'm clumsy. and I sneezed half-way through. It's definitely high quality and far better then what shipped with my Tilt. Anyway, I took it into the bathroom and left it to dry so I could attempt to re-apply it later. There, it promptly slipped into the space between the sink cabinet and the tub. Goodbye Martin.
* sigh *
The ES protector seems to be just as good - they're both excellently cut and you can't go wrong with either of them. I don't feel it impairs the screen at all - stylus and finger use ( I use my finger all the time ) are pretty much as it was without the protector. Maybe a tiny touch less sensitive, if you're picky....one can increase sensitivity to compensate. I myself did not find this necessary.
I hope this can be of use to anyone considering the choices. I think a screen protector is a must if you care about your device. I had little regard for my HTC 8125, which lived in my pocket up until last week. The screen held up pretty well, considering it's been to PPC Basra and back. It shared the pocket with my keys, various automotive tools, nuts, bolts, and large quantities of quarters.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I know I've screwed up a few of mine in the past. I have Expert Shield protectors on every device I've owned. Nokia 6820, 6822, E-70, PSP, my girl's Sony-Ericsson w850i, LG Shine, my friend's LG Chocolate and I've never had a problem with them.
I'm glad you enjoy yours as much as I do.

I got the Boxwave Cleartouch Crystal and the Anti-Glare, used both for two weeks and I settles on the Crystal..
I just don't like how the Anti-Glare makes the screen look, the Crystal on the other hand is like having nothing on the screen at all it's perfectly clear and well the Anti-Glare really wasn't Anti-Glare..
both are nice and thick and I didn't have to adjust the sensitivity on my Tilt either to use them

you dont have a screen protector on your phone?? it shouldve came with your phone unless you got it else where. better get these
well i screwed up the one that came wit it by trying to get it perfectly on the screen, so after ripping it out over and over again i kept gettin dust on it, so i threw it away and for now i put that original one back that has the pictures on it and shows you how to tilt ur phone? u know the one that comes on it when its brand new wit "warnings" and stuff...
either way...i am about to purchase either the "Expert Shield" or the pocket solution ones and i am tryin to get some feedback on the pocket solution ones first before purchasing. as for now, i have my phone on "baby mode" and am leaving it at home
geez...no one?
Expert Shield all the way. Don't even second guess it.
Expert Shield rocks. I have used them for my Tilt and a couple of cameras. You just have be careful putting them on. It is really easy to get dust under it if your not careful. Look on eBay and you can find them for really cheap shipped from either Hong Kong or Canada. Usually around $10 - $12 shipped. They are more expensive here.

+5 to that. i'm using them now on my tilt.
they're thick, yet flexible, have yet to show any wear from the stylus, & they haven't appeared to affect the touch sensitivity either.
It's been said by someone here that the Expert Shield protectors are just as good as the Martin Fields. He ruined one of his Martin Fields and I told him to try out ES and he said it was great.
They're a lot cheaper also.

It also doesn't affect screen sensitivity.

I bought an Expert Shield and am VERY happpy with it. You're dead on about the dust thing and I'll add fingerprints to that list.
I did discover is that you can remove it and wash the sticky side off with warm water and a clean finger. Then pat dry lightly with lint free cloth for eye glasses. It will it go right back on just like new!!!! I did this three times in a row for fingerprints and dust that was bugging me.
Great product!!!

I'm using them, and they are ok for the money. There are better ones out there like the others are stating. But for 5 bucks, not a bad buy at all.
Also try Boxwave's ClearTouch, It's a bit pricey but man... after 2 month with this thing stick on my screen, it didn't even get a single scratch on it, hard as a rock! Also perfect fit. It's also washable and after wash it with soap and put it back on to your screen it looks like brand new... Well worth the money.
Link here.
Someone here linked them before I bought them and they are garbage. They are a pain in the ass to put on the first one I put on didnt cover enough of the screen and anything off of your fingers stays on there and its very hard to clean you have to use water. Mircofiber cloth wasnt good enough. Within two weeks it bubbled up and I had to trash the 1st one. The 2nd one that came in the pack was too big and it was also did not fit well. Oh yea
I dont recommend them.
Lifetime Shield
Invisible Shield. Thats the one.
Lifetime shield
The invisible shield does have a different feel to it, but its nothing thats a show stopper. The company is good for its work, they have already replaced one due to the lack of a camera opening for my tytn 2.
I want to know what everyone uses and what's considered the best for money. I was using the one that came default with the G1 for a while, but some of the on screen items became very sensitive to touch or sometimes wouldn't register. Taking the film off did the trick as far as functionality goes, but I really would like the protection of my screen while still keeping that smooth functionality. So, I scoured google and while I found some products, none had any definitive reviews, and a lot were way over priced.
So what do you guys here use? suggest or recommend?
EDIT - Let's extend this topic to cases too. Anyone use any cases? What's good and bad? Saw a review for a Krusell case on an SE site that I really liked, but would love to see what you guys are into?

I have the Smartphone Experts one, http://store.androidcommunity.com/content/accessories/15-43--4298.htm, and it's just OK. It's the anti-glare kind which makes the screen look kind of sparkly and less contrasty if you look close. It does feel really nice under the fingertip though, very papery. But overall I'd prefer a really true clear one.
i bought a ten pack of screen protectors from the local t-mobile store. i don't remember how much i paid for them but they work really well. they are much thicker than the one that comes with the phone. they need to be cut to size because they are universal but, they have spread sheet looking ruler on them which make it easy to cut. not to mention i am able to get 2 protectors per sheet.
as for cases, i also got it from the tmo store and i believe it was around 25$ 30$ but it was worth it. its a black carbon fiber looking rubber made by body glove and comes with an optional belt clip. i have a habit of leaving my phone on my lap and standing up and only manage to catch it about 50% percent of the time.....the other 50% my body glove came to the rescue. works great but makes the phone pretty bulky
