Stupid question I know, but when you open the browser, is there no one click other than opening bookmarks that will just go to your homepage, and also is there a refresh button?
I've not been able to find either. The lack of refesh is very annoying when you are looking at thing like football results.
no, as shown in another thread, there is no home button. like you said, use bookmarks, or open a new window. Daft but that's what were stuck with at the moment.
As for refresh button, yes there is.
press menu to show the address bar at the top, and on the right of the address bar is a button that changes from refresh (when a page is loaded) to stop (while a page is loading)
Thanks..
Strange they let you set up and change the homepage but not the most basic function of getting there. As most of the time it's left on the last page you were on and doesn't revert to home? Oh well. Another one for the updates.
As a sidenote, how do you guys feel about the applications you download having access to :
Phone calls, read phone state
Hardware controls
Network Communications, full internet access
etc
etc
Why would something like Shazam need all this info about phone calls in particular
I have igoogle as my homepage, all i do is put a shortcut for igoogle from bookmarks on my homescreen and use that as my browser.

Guys I need some help please.
I am playing with the Desire HD as a dual-boot from my HD2.
There are things I really like in WinMo sense I want to be able to do in Android Desire Sense but can't seen to work out:
1) Internet. When I press on the icon it always opens on the page last opened.
How I can get it to either:
have the google search bar at the top and then some of my bookmarked favourites under it to click
or
open on the bookmarks page by default
2) Email: how can I get it that when I click the email button it opens on the "select account" screen by default rather than my last email? The email widget is quite good but it would be nice to have access to this from the homescreen button.
There will be more I am sure - only just trying this in earnest (plan to stay in Android for next 2-3 days at least and see how it goes)
Ahhh... Android. How you razz all over Windows in soooo many ways! Welcome, my friend, to the world of Activities

On the homescreen, long-press to add a shortcut and select:
Shortcuts --> Activities --> Browser
And then select the activity called "Bookmark" (com.android.browser.ShortcutBookmarksPage)
As for the email one, you'll have to have a look and see if there's an activity in the email app that you use. I don't have Sense, so I don't have the HTC email app to check for you.
Activities are great. A lot of them don't do what you'd expect, as they're really sub-sections of the parent application, and they're not designed to be run on their own. It's fun to play about with them though. I use Launcher Pro and on the dock at the bottom of the screen I can click the SMS icon to open my SMS app, or I can swipe the icon to create a new message (which is done via an activity shortcut).
A very useful feature.
I hope this helps mate
Thanks John but I don't seem to have an entry for "activities" under shortcuts?
You have to use Launcher Pro I think
It's actually native android functionality and very powerful. Pretty bad they've removed it in Sense.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
I see.
I did install launcher pro as I also wanted something like the slider in winmo but I hated the metallic look of the icons it gave.
Can I change them?
Agree though pity activity has been removed
Yes - you just hold one of the icons and it gives you the option to change it to anything you like.

Hi everyone,
i think thread title says it all...
I already hated this stupid mobile view of websites in my Android smartphone.
Now it sucks even more on my tablet. i want to see webpages in desktop view style. I have found no way to change that in the stock browser.
Only in the Dolphin HD browser I an choose wether I want mobile or desktop views of website. And it even works. But actually I would prefer the stock browser.
Thank you.

Try This:
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter (it will appear that nothing changed).
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state.
That should make it load the "desktop" versions of websites for you!
any chance of getting this change to stick? It seems that I have to change this every time I start the browser.

You change this once and then the change wil persist
only sticks until you reboot, kind of annoying wish someone could write a script or something to automate this.
Sorry but either will lose setting periodically for no apparent reason. Absolutely needs to be automated.
i would love this too..
How do you rearrange the bookmarks in your favorites by dragging? I see that you can hit that little icon on the bottom middle of the page when viewing your favorites and arrange the icons alphabetically, by time viewed, etc., but I used to be able to rearrange them any way I wanted by dragging and dropping. Did that go away with the latest update?

I emailed Boat support the same question and no answer yet. But I found it on my own.
Go to the Home page that shows the speed dial bookmarks and long press on the very first icon (it didn't happen when I just long pressed on the page itself), and a Manage scareen appears. Click Manage and then you can drag things around.
My bigger problem with Boat, however, is that it uploaded automatically to a new version and now it CRASHES within a minute no matter which web site I am on.
I Uninstalled and reinstalled Boat but within a few minutes, the crashing reoccurred.
In face all of my browsers, except Chrome, seem to be crashing now.
I may have to do a Factory Reset but it's a hassle to reload all my bookmarks again.

That moves the speed dial icons around but I am talking about the bookmarks. That doesn't seem to work for the bookmarks.
Bummer about the crashes. Boat works OK for me except the loss of ability to move my bookmarks around.
I looked around but didn't find anything, although that doesn't mean anything.
My question is that when holding the home button, you get a whole semi circle, but just giogke now or whatever that silly thing is. Is there a way of adding programs or shortcuts to this popup. I have zero use for the Google thing so seems a shame if I am unable to add more useful items to this semi circle. Could prove pretty useful.

I haven't seen anywhere you can add to that or change it. I love the google now thing, just to be able to tell it to wake me up in an hour if nothing else:laugh:
Try this app if you haven't already though, it will let you launch an app just by sliding in from the side of the screen, or bottom, or whereever you want.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm1vYmkuY29uZHVjdGlvbi5zd2lwZXBhZC5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
Instead of launching Google Now you could get get an app launch list using 'Launch Now', which replaces default behavior. Just serach for it in PlayStore, as I may not insert links (10 posts rule)....
There's a way for people who want to hook into the swipe up action that may not be documented. Apps like "Sudo Quicklaunch" make the system switch the icon to a generic search icon and show you the standard action completion pop-up. (One can see this in the app's promotional video.) I haven't personally tested that app, but I have seen the swipe up reassignment behavior with "Secure Settings." The Secure Settings app actually changes the icon displayed by the swipe up menu, when you tell it to "Always" use that app, and Google Search does the same thing. Coincidentally, the same reassignment behavior appears to be possible with the shop icon in the stock launcher. (I saw it for myself in the days of Honeycomb with the transition from the original Honeycomb Market app to the new, unified Market app, because both were installed, it asked me to choose when I tapped shop.)
Ever since 4.3 update S4 stock browser no longer has history button in settings. It shows all other options like print, brightness, desktop view, incognito mode, find on page, etc.. but no history.
So my question is How do you access history?? I like using stock browser. Any way I can do it via address bar like in chrome (chrome:history)??
Maybe there is history log text file somewhere within root/data/data/browser.apk?? Im fully rooted but see nothing
Ahem, pressing and holding back button doesn't do anything
Any help is urgently needed and will be appreciated
Thanks

Press the bookmarks button in the top right corner and you should see a history tab on the right.
