turning on wifi - Touch HD General

I used to have action screen for 2.1 manila
but now I am using 2.5 manila so action screen menu is not possible in the home screen
though I can have shortcuts to program, contacts, widgets and book mark
I cant turn on wifi or blue tooth with those for that i have to slide to settings menu to access [call me lazy but action screen was fun though]

Use shortcuts to program and choose Comm Manager which has options for turning on both bluetooth & wifi

Enable Bluetooth

Is there a way I can enable/disable bluetooth through one of the hard buttons on the mogul. The messaging or the windows botton for instance. I just hate to go to the comm manager everytime I want to enable/disable the bluetooth. I don't also want to drain my battery by leaving it on all the time.
This won't do it via a button, but PhoneAlarm can do it based on profile and some PA skins also have a soft button on the screen.
AEButton Plus works very well for that too. Very handy lil prog!
There are lots of tiny little bluetooth toggle exe's out there you can find via google. I got one of those and then mapped my PIE hard button's press and hold feature to execute it, works great. Did the same with a vibrate toggle exe program on the messaging hard button.

Can u plz let me know what's the name of the one u got, and do i go about setting it up. does it come with instructions on how to map the hard bottons? I appreciate the help.
AEbutton is nice, but is always running in the background. Vijay has created a small utility called VJvolubilis that can control BT (and radio as well). Download his app (http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis), and copy the shortcut he's already created for you inot your \windows\start menu folder, then go to Settings > Personal > buttons to assign a button to this shortcut--bam!

Manual Rotation???

Hey Guys,
so while playing around with the diamond config utility, i've noticed theres a registry option to enable "manual screen rotation'
Now, since the gsen app currently doesn't work with the Telus ROM, i would imagine that this registry key would allow you to switch the screen manually.
Is there any button i have to press to manually rotate the screen?
If i am completely mistaken about this option, is there another solution besides the gsen app?
I don't mind pressing a hotkey button to manual rotate for the time being until gsen fixes the app to work with telus as well.
Any ideas? Thanks a million!!!!
I have noticed this tweak about as well and have never understood what exactly does it mean. .......
yeh exactly...
i can understand gsen would allow you to rotate automaticaly, but until they fix it, i wouldn't mind doing it manually for temporary purposes.
i would really love to text in landscape mode!
There has to be a way to assign a key to rotate the screen.
Workaround - Quick Menu!

Install an application called "Quick Menu" -- it's a Start Menu replacement that I've used for a while. Referenced in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340358
You can do four things with H-V toggle:
1. Find it in the Quick Menu menu
2. Set Quick Menu so that holding the Windows icon for a second or two will do an H-V switch (great for apps that aren't fullscreen - i.e. blocking the start menu)
3. Create a shortcut to the H-V switch within Quick Menu, and assign that to the press-and-hold button. Great for fullscreen apps like TomTom!
4. If you use Voice Command software (ex. Microsoft's), you can launch the H-V shortcut that way. For example, "Open Rotate" launches the H-V icon which I've renamed "Rotate".
All these make more sense once you get to know Quick Menu.
great.. thanks for the recommendation but now my phone is messed
first off, it wouldn't stay landscape, it would just resort back to portrait, and now when i closed the program, and rebooted, i don't have my task bar in the top right nemore. it disappeared and i cannot get it back
now what?? hard reset?

nevermind, quick fix ... phew!!!! it was in the task manager settings to turn it back on... oh man that was close!!!!
ok this is cool... i got the manual rotation working by holding the windows key.... this is amazing Thank you sooo much!!!
although one qwerk... I find that i cannot use the menu at all. I've pretty much set it to quick turn to landscape... i click slightly to the right to use my regular start menu. reason being is because if i use it, it removes my task mgr in the top right of my screen and then i have to go and enable it manually within my settings.
So im pretty much just using it for holding the windows logo to change my orientation. other than that it's great!!!!
thanks a million man i appreciate it!
Alternatively if you do not want to use additional software like QuickMenu. this method works well...
1) Change your registry to enable screen rotation:
HKLM - System - GDI - Rotation - HideOrientationUI (Change from 1 to 0)
2) Then, simply map your phone button long press to the rotation tweak:
Settings -> Buttons -> Map with <Rotate Screen>
3) When you would like to rotate your screen, just hold your Phone button.

I've done a similar thing but without changing the registry. If you look under screen in advanced config there's the option to have landscape. If you then go into start - settings - system - screen the option to have portrait or landscape is there. you can then go start - personal - buttons and map your screen rotation to whatever key you want.
Here is a cab to enable the rotation if you are not familiar with the registry.

Your changing the registry with advanced config aren't you? Either way works no doubt. More than one way to skin a cat.
A Little application - Trotate
I wrote a little program which will rotate screen following a Finger Swipe.
Originally written for Touch(Elf) program appear to work OK on Diamond.
I have found that when selecting Home Screen that the Diamond will return to normal Screen orientation after a brief pause, or you can return to original orientation by re-running application.
Enjoy....
The best program that I have found for rotating the screen to landscape and back is WkTask, it does heaps more as well but for rotating, it is so easy, you just put the stylus on the close button and slide down and the screen will rotate and repeat and it rotates back to portrait.

Slick! That'll do the trick too!
Re: QuickMenu -- it has its own Running Programs list, and the author decided his app should no conflict with HTC's and auto-disables HTC's. It's weird, but I got used to it.

anyone have problems with the clock in the topright corner, mines gone and half the signal strength meter is covered by a blank
Oh man, thanks a bunch for the info guys!!! so i already had the enable landscape mode in the registry but never knew how to activate it. I just went into my buttons menu and saw the "rotate" screen option by holding the send key! it works great!!!!
no need for any 3rd party appps.
thanks for all the recommendations guys, this method will work wonderfully until the gsen app works for the telus diamond!
thank you once again guys!
ok guys i'm having a problem
i'm using the method of holding send key to manual rotate.
it works working fine when i tried it out, now while im trying to type a text message, it resorts back to the portrait mode, and exits back to the homescreen.
any ideas why?
Hey mightymike84, did you fix this issue or stillcausing headaches for you. I am also on telus and was wondering about the reults before I make a change to the reistry setting. Also I do use the send key for the voice command option, any other way to use say one of the other keys. Thanks.
I am new to the WM world (long time user of the palm treos) so sorry for the noob questions
Hi guys im interested in this manual rotate, but i have no buttons in the button settings to assign manual rotate to (MDA Compact IV) nor can i figure out how to create a short cut in "Quick Menu".
Could some please explain how to get a H-V Rotate shortcut working please?
Hi,
see this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428759
The .exe file someone gave me works fine !!!
I put it in the star menu, so i can rotate the programs if they aren't in full screen mode... Like the others the home TF3D comes back to normal after.
Ciao

What would be nice

OK that's a terrible title for a thread, but wouldn't it make sense if touching the wifi icon on the task bar toggled wifi and touching the bluetooth icon toggled bluetooth. They should have placeholders and be accessible all the time without the comm manager
Yeah trying to hit those with your finger is tough and then having to hit comm manager. It takes like 5 button presses to turn it off/on through spb panel too. I don't like the SE panels, but they have a wifi toggle why can't the spb one have that?
Phoneweaver will give you what yout after.
That's good, but I think access to these functions should be from anywhere (any app / any panel) at any time. The only constant across all of that is the task bar and the hardware keys. Right now I have comm manager assigned to a key.
phonealarm also lets you turn on bluetooth or wifi by touch the icon.
Both of the Sony Ericsson Panels allow you to enable/disable Wifi and Bluetooth on the main screen.
but these aren't task bar icons, these are desktop icons. Access is therefore only from the desktop
AE Button Plus "extends functionality of hardware keys on Windows Mobile devices", so you can for example set double clicking the green button activate/deactivate WiFi, and a long press to do the same for bluetooth.
Another good way is to assign Comm Manager to a key, as suggested before.
I have left soft key set to comm manager, 2 clicks for wifi, phone, bluetooth et al.

Straight to comm manager

I've searched like hell, wiki and all, but can't find a way to do this.
When I click the signal icon in the top bar, the system status screen appears, which is fine, but then if I click the signal icon on that screen it closes and then a notification icon pops up to show me the signal status in a bubble.
Is there any way to go straight from the system status screen to the comm manager? rather than the really long way at the moment?
I'd be really happy if there was a third party app which took the system status screens place with more detailed info and comm manager in one.
hope someone can help.
Logicalstep
I don't know if it will solve your problem, but I simply added "Comm manager" as shortcut in the start menu. (2 clicks to comm manager)
I found that if I mapped the CommManager to the 'press and hold' call accept (green phone button) in the 'buttons' section in settings, then its nice and easy to load and it doesn't then matter where you are in your phone you can always get to commManager quick and easy.
I used to have this button mapped to use the camera, this is so I had a hardware camera button but the delay is too much to live with for me.
Hi,
Thanks for the tips, I know you can just assign comm manager to a button, but I was hoping there would be a more technical way to use the system status screen to go to the comm manager.
I already have on of my buttons mapped to rotate.
Thanks
Logicalstep
Use Ae button plus (i am using it to turn on-off wifi with a double press on the vol up button)
or
edit the registry so you assign the commanager to your left softkey @ homescreen (you can use HD tweak or Advanced config tools).
instead of doing that to get to comm manager why dont you just
press home
slide to settings
load comm manager
its like button, slide, tap, less than 1 second and you can do it with one finger or your thumb while holding your phone in the same hand
tap start , tap comm manager. your there

Personally I feel 'Tap Start , Tap Comm Manager' is probably the best route to take but if you want to map a button to comm manager use AEB PLus
For example if you want you could use the Volume Up button to run Comms Manager as well as volume
Simply set Single Tap to run application and Double Tap for volume or whatever button & configuration you prefer
You have a choice of buttons to use and 3 option for configuration i.e. Single Tap, Double Tap & Hold Button
Well thanks for all your suggestions they are good ones, but as always me being very picky, I was kind of hoping there would be registry hack to allow me to do it from the system status, in my opinion this wouold be the more TF3d integrated solution allowing me to go to the comm manager just as pressing the volume button takes me to the volume controls.
It just a little illogical the way it shows the notification bubble instead of taking you to the comm manager.
What would be really great is a more advanced syatsm status screen showing all the connection info on it, such as wifi signal strength and status, data status
all icons with the ability to click on and go to comm manager.
I'm guessing this is probably just me, but I think that would be great.
Logicalstep
Start-Settings-System-Touch-FLO, untick the Show System Status screen checkbox.
At least that cuts out one unnecessary step..
hmm I don't really think that qualifies as solving my gripe as it just disables the system status menu and that doesn't fulfil any of my wish list.
Ok well if I can't get it to work with the touchflo system status screen is there a way to change what program is launched on the click of the task bar? That way I might stand a chance of making or finding an app that does what I want.
Logicalstep
doesnt the new htc notification thingy replace those bubble pop ups with a full screen finger friendly screen?
i dont know cos i havent installed it...
then clicking on the icon would take u to take screen to load comm manager
I downloaded WKTASK, you can find it on this site, which places an icon of all open programs on the task bar. Open Commmgr the first time and then leave it open on the task bar. Next time you need it one tap brings you there.
wktask looks cool thanks

Lock screen slider no longer appears and on/off button behaving weirdly

Lock screen suddenly stopped working without me changing any settings, etc. Tried a couple of fixes and now the off button no longer sends the phone to sleep, instead it just freezes the whole phone. I have to then hold it for 2-3 seconds to get the "Turn phone off ... lock phone ..." popup > press cancel > phone returns to home screen and it's working again.
As I write this, I've removed "Chris' lock slider middle" app and now the off button sends the phone to sleep. But when I wake it up, the home screen flashes/blinks as it does so.
Loads of info comes up on forum search, but I haven't been able to find a straightforward fix. Any ideas? The problem with this is that the phone keeps waking up (to home screen) in its pouch when in my pocket etc - not good because random things can then happen.
EDIT: Have just removed the password unlock option and that has at least stopped the screen from flashing/blinking on wake up. But still no lock slider.
Thanks
SC
lock
Usually for example after flashing is necessary to lock device ones in WM itself. Have you already tried this simple procedure?
Press HW button with WM logo - > at bottom menu press "Lock"
I haven't flashed the ROM - it's a stock unbranded one.
Pressing WM logo button > lock = shows the old style lock message, not the slider. The weird thing is that even this doesn't work when I'm running Sportypal. And I use Sportypal to record my runs/mtbing - hence I need to be sure the phone locks properly when this and GPS is on in the background, otherwise the home screen get activated (by movement) and anything can happen.
Am also running CHT 1.8.5, B&B tweaks ...
Cheers
SC
You guys are running a lot more programs than I am, but I just had the lock slider screen disappear again after installing a small program. This has happened before, too.
To get the slider screen back I just have to press on the bottom right end hardkey and then press "Lock Device." The slider screen comes back and then reappears each time the screen shuts off.
You've probably already done this.

Yes I have, but the slide lock doesn't appear. It reverts to the "To unlock the device, tap Unlock" screen instead. I.e the whole slider thing just doesn't exist anymore.
I thought I might be able to change it using CHT Editor 1.8, but it won't launch (never has) - I just get the same error as always:
"CHTEditor.exe
NullRefernceException
at
CHTEditor.CHTEditor_MainWindow.Check
Version()
at
CHTEditor.CHTEditor_MainWindow.RunSt
artupProcess()
at
CHTEditor.CHTEditor_MainWindow..ctor()
at CHTEditor.Program.Main(String{}
args)"
I've read that you can "control" the slider from within CHT Editor but unfortunately I've never been able to open it. All I can do it use home screen > menu > Edit quick links OR Edit home layout.
Any other ideas?
Thanks
SC
ohh, now I have the same problem ones
I have installed CHT 1.8.5 and uninstaled Metro lock ... seems to be a problem of new CHT, better check the original CHT thread, maybe someone already solve it
I uninstalled 1.8.5 and installed 1.8.5.1.
CHT Editor now launches properly so I've set up the CHT lock slider to work - and it does. I still have to click WM > lock > on/off for it to do it though - but that's not really a problem. Still no sign of the original HTC lock slider though.
Only other problem is CHT Editor can no longer be launched via home screens > menu > CHT Editor. It says it's not installed. I guess this is because when I originally installed CHT it was set to open 1.8.5 - and now that's been uninstalled, it needs to point to 1.8.5.1. I'll have a search for that - but I'm hoping everything is available via the app icon anyway because that works.
