Solution to recent market problems (no paid apps) - G1 General

So you're outside of the allowed paid apps territories and have recently found that you can no longer use MARKET ENABLER to gain access to paid apps. You might have found the german "o2" settings work, but those give you european targeted downloads and you want US targeted.
Seems that there is a problem with the MNC used by MARKET ENABLER. There are two android global properties called "gsm.sim.operator.numeric" and "gsm.operator.numeric", and these are the concatenation of the network MCC and MNC values, tmobile US was set to 31026, their MCC (mobile country code) is 310 (usa) and MNC (mobile network code) is 260 (tmobile US) -- whoops, maybe try 310260 instead. Yep, that works.
Enjoy!

Nice catch! I was wondering why ME wasn't enabling of late.

will change that in the rewrite of v3beta ;-)

I have a Rogers Dream and its rooted. Market Enabler just stopped working and I cant get it to work again. I tried the 3beta and even clearing the Cache numerous times. Nothing seems to work.
anyone have a fix?

Not doing anything for me.
Hi guys
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, or just being dense, but I can't seem to see ME doing anything.
I'm running a rooted G1 on the Orange Switzerland network, currently with Cyanogen-Mod 4.04. When I run ME, it asks for root permission (granted), then says it's "doing stuff", then claims to have been successful. If I then check the APN's there are none there, none at all. Also, I still can't see any paid apps in the market.
Usually, or after ME's restore, I have two APN, namely 'Orange' and 'Orange MMS' with the respective settings needed for the local network.

What does Market Enabler have to do with APNs? APNs are used for connecting to a cellular network. Market Enabler works by setting certain build properties to spoof that of a different network.

Almost.... they aren't build properties, they're cell-network properties and sim properties that are retrieved from the simcard and network upon connection. Market enabler overrides these network properties.

You're right. I was thinking of just the properties in general and let it slip.

So, could someone give me short description of how it would look when ME works? Just so I know where the problem might be.

Sure... when you go to market, it will show you $ priced applications. Thats how you know that it worked
Market enabler has 3 tabs; current settings, presets, and custom. When you activate a change on tab 2 or 3, the values shown on tab 1 will change to match.

Tabs? I don't see any tabs.
I see a banner at the top, showing 'Androidiani', then two buttons beneath that, 'Enable paid Apps' and 'Restore'. Below that, a balck field with green text, showing the status/results etc.
And at the bottom, a gray text field with thanks to the developers, and warning about using the app at your own risk.
Are we even talking about the same app here?
EDIT: Right, so I found out about the V3.0beta and installed that. After using the numbers provided in the first post of this thread, it's now working. There does remain one question though: Is it possible to somehow save your initial values, or the 'restore' what you had before enabling? My current settings are detected correctly, but they don't show up in the 'Settings List' Tab, and I can't find a 'restore' option like the last version anywhere. I know that rebooting will reset you to the original settings, but it's a bit annyoing to do that every time.
Still, many thanks for making this possible. It's a great tool, and I'll be recommending it to any other Android users in Switzerland.

If you read their issue tracker, it appears that they are planning on adding those features you are looking for.

Great, thanks for the info everyone.
Now, I have a slightly more devious question, of purely hypothetical nature of course .
Once I've installed a paid app, the apk shows up in /system/sd/app like all the others. If I then backup that apk to somewhere else, say /sdcard/temp, and uninstall/refund the app through the market....what's to stop me from just installing the copied apk afterwards?

Nothing. However, the app will not show up in the Market and thus you will not be able to receive updates.

In some cases, there are additional copy protection or rat-you-out features contained within the application. If the software asks for internet permissions, then there is most definitely a chance that there could be rat-you-out features.... I know I would.

@Rapax: das macht mer eifach nöd und wegem restore, ich lueg das i de nägscht version so öpis dine isch...
About APN's dissapearing, if you have APN config with specific SIM/Network settings (entered witch sim card/network this should be active) u could get a problem if this settings change...
And once again, this app is not intended for piracy, it's more the opposite, that people who live in non market enabled countries can still buy apps instead of having to rely on getting the apk from ipmart or something and not paying anything to the dev's.

Market Enabler 3.0.1 beta now available. Fixes T-Mo US operator codes (as noted in first post of this thread).

Purchasing apps on the market outside of "authorized" areas

strazzere said:
Just a heads up that later on tomorrow an application will be released to help people outside of "authorized" areas purchase applications for the G1 on the market. More information can be found at http://strazzere.com/blog/?p=249 or the italian version at http://www.androidiani.com/applicazioni/applicazioni-a-pagamento-sul-market-da-ora-si-puo-2169.
Basically it ended up being easier than we originally thought, though Andrea threw together an application to make it easier for people to do.
The program should be released early tomorrow with the source and an explanation of how it works and what not.
Enjoy! Ciao!

I think is interesting for everyone here
Bye Andrea
bump!
i've installed the app and its working!!
but i don't have a billing address in US...
its now working!!
market apps available on ADP1.5 outside US
the app can be found here, look for the link "QUI"
http://www.androidiani.com/applicaz...he-in-italia-con-marketenabler-2177#more-2177
you might need to make a google checkout account from your computer if you are not in one of the market enabled countries... use the same gmail account
I wonder what Google thinks of this...
It works perfect, to bad google only works with creditcards :S ?
winbet this app enable only the purchasing process. We did not made nothing bad...

The proper translated version is here, http://strazzere.com/blog/?p=255
got the app- pity for some reason superuser doesnt want to play with it- funny cos SU plys ok with everything else....eg. advanced task manager etc.... am running 1.5 ADPHr1
is superuser not playing nice with it?
i use JF 1.5, i have to say allow a million times, but it works!
Amazing job!
Well I just want to thank the team that made this possible, it works just perfect on my JF 1.5 ADP, bought a few apps already!!!
Cheers
I'm pleased that you are happy of our work
Yes, thanks very much Andrea and Tim!
my SU is working ok with it now- for some reason it was hanging up- so i opened SU before opening this app..... i now have paid apps in Australia!!
Any requirements to install this program?
I cant seem to install it, keep getting " the install is unsuccessful" error.
Works GREAT!
It really works! Thank you so much. I felt disappointed when I learned google was not allowing ADP1 users to even see the non-free applications. Now I can see everything. I haven't tried to buy anything yet. I'm in Spain and we are not supposed to have paid applications, so I don't want to rise any suspicions.
Edit 1:
If you want to see the apps, you have to run the enabler and then (immediately after) go to the market. Or, to put it in a different way, it only allows this access for a (very) limited amount of time.
Edit 2:
I was finally able to see a free but protected app (NBA Game Time) from my ADP1, and it downloaded and installed successfully, but it doesn't run at all (force closes every time). If it's of any help, I'm running JF 1.5 on an ADP1.
I'm using JF 1.5ADP with no further mods (apps2sd etc.) and the SU request is freezing, tried a reboot but no joy, any ideas?
### Solved ###
This is a JF 1.5 issue, USB debugging must be enabled for the SU Whitelist to work (reboot not necessary).

I also have the JF 1.5ADP, but I do have the apps on the SD (I did it manually following instructions on JF's web). But it did asked me for root access like a million times (ok, a little exaggeration here, but it was like 6 or 7 times). And it takes a while (like a minute or so).

Switching between the different markets would be rather easy, you just need someone from that area to tell you what the numerical operator number and the operator name is.
I'll be posting soon how to do this process without the program install for people having trouble using market-enabler
Edit:
Try this information if you have trouble installing it: http://strazzere.com/blog/?p=260
Thanks, this is awesome! One thing I've noticed though, when viewing by popularity in uk it only shows free apps - paid aren't showing. They show normally in 'date added view though'.

China is blocking Market downloads since cyanogens 4.19 release.. any ideas?

Since I have upgraded to cyanogens 4.19 and later builds using the new market, It seems that 95% of my downloads are unsuccessfull. I am living in China and love my phone but can only deduce that China is blocking downloads. This occurs over both wifi and edge connections.
Any ideas how to get around this??????
Is this because of the new radio required by google? Is this because of the new market? Is this simple a flat out great firewall of china block? Are there any proxies available for the market? Any alternative to market? SSlide is very limited. Thanks
I can synch, but even that is not very stable.
I have used my phone since the dudes long ago and no problems through all roms until the 4.19 series...
Currently on c 4.21 stable... dream G1
Have you tried a different ROM perhaps? Or at the very least wiped/cleared ext3 and put CM back on?

I have tried the last 2 or three cyanogen roms. Also I have tried the stock google 1.6 dev rom. I have reformatted my partitions, and wiped several times. Thanks for your reply. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Doesn't China sensor certain things because it's an communist country? I'm not trying to be an ass, but that might be the reason. I think google sensors webpages and searches because of government regulations.

It has been a long time since china blocked something.
you can replace your hosts file.
Since you live in china, why not go to

upzip attached and copy to /system/etc with SUFBS or RootExplorer.
or use below in windows "CMD"
adb remount
adb push "path of hosts file" /system/etc
try this
extract the 2 files to 1 folder, connect your G1 with your PC
than run push.bat and enjoy it.
You need android usb drivers&adb before doing this.
If mine doesn't work,try Ayerwin's hosts file.
replace mine hosts with his, than run push.bat.
mine method is simpler ^_^
I used the abd method from aryewin first , rebooted and tried to install the speech synthesis files from the market...It is downloading as I type this. Thank you. It is hard to say if it worked yet because 5% of the time downloads work. I will test it using the new hosts file today and report back as soon as I get some time. Thank you so much for your quick help there are so many things I use from the market this can really help if it is successfull.
i am also in china now, if you do a logcat you see that the market cannot estabilish an ssl connection
for me, a reboot (or using wifi with china unicom) fixes the problem
are you on china mobile (edge) or china unicom (umts)?
i think it is just temporary, as for me 90% of download works, and also i managed to buy 5 paid apps using market enabler
edit: putting youtube.com in the hosts file will make youtube work?? it sounds strange, che GFC is so strict in its checks (lol try to go on wikipedia to take a look for freegate, and see the epic fail, the page will load and then "magically" return an error)
i tried on my pc and i get
很抱歉,在 www.google.cn 上没找到您要访问的网页

(cannot find google.cn)
this is because google tried to do the smart guy, and put youtube and google on the same ip address (to avoid ip blacklisting)
unfortunately the gfc is not stupid and will do DNS poisoning on some domains...
btw i can do everything with my g1 in china, everything works, gtalk, maps, push gmail, market (except youtube, twitter, facebook, and nimbuzz)
i am using china mobile (cmnet), maybe is that you are using cmwrap+cmwap? it is no wonder that it will fail to connect if you do so...
Checking back in I can say the new hosts file made the market run great the last three hours. Its great to have unlimited access again.
Yes, I am too using cmnet. Its too bad we cant use Chinese 3g with our g1. My phone has also worked great since I got it. The best phone in the world I have ever had.
It has been my experiance that China blocks sites differently in different regions and cities. Using China Mobile here.
If you are having a problem, I would suggest you using the host file in this thread. Has worked so far for me.

I heard you can access twitter by android platform frome China and have seen people tweet from China using twidroid. I'm not sure if which service provider they use. But this may suggest something else wrong there.
Moreover, try to set your google service as .com instead of .cn. That one's totally useless. Massive amount of keywords are filtered out.
Good luck bro. It's really sad they are doing this do mobile network. Dunno what would happen to the iPhone network tho.
yes, it looks the market it is working good with the new hosts, but i cant tell for sure
adding youtube/twitter on the hosts file has no effect
the GFW does packet sniffing imho, it detects i am going on blogspot even if i am using a proxy!
btw, for the filtered sites, on the pc i don't care, i've setup a VPN from europe for that
you can replace google.cn with google.com, but it is not the same. you can use the automated translator, and the cached page feature only of the chinese website
and the result is the same
if you search for "freegate" on google.cn you get a warning "illegal search"
if you search for that on google.com you get a DNS error that will "kick you out" from all google-owned servers unless you do ipconfig /flushdns
btw there is a chance to use the 3g on the g1 in china, with china unicom (umts)
too bad, i went to 8 different china unicom reseller and none of them were speaking english, so i was "forced" to use china mobile (edge)
the china mobile agent insisted to give me the 30mb/month flat, as 2gb "is too much", and insisted to come back when the limit was reached
she was shocked when i come back the day after "how did you use all of the 30mb in a single day???"

WANTED: someone with working market

whats your region code when you check it with Market Enabler?
And are you on Sprint?
Awesome, thanks.
I'm running damage v1 on Sprint.
I thought it had protected apps but now that I check it cant find twidroid.
The number on the "actual" is 310120. That's the only info I've found. I know I had to change that value in the build.prop to make something work, don't remember what though.
Can you post another example of a protected app? My paid apps all show.
Twitroid is a common app used to check if protected apps are showing
CNET Scan & Shop is one that I can think of that doesn't show for me since flashing DC 2.0.
Also Fandango, it seems.
Google Googgles, Shopper & Barcode scanner (ZXing) don't work under DC 2.0.R2.

i think you are trying what i tried to do to enable protected apps by thinking its code related, but i get the same code whether i am running my 1.5 pancake to when i tried the 2.1 damage v2r2 today... i don't have it installed anymore, but it was definitely the same on the working (1.5) and non-working (2.1) versions
below is an excerpt from the "New Damaged rom mods" thread and it actually did work for me once, but then after i restarted it seemed to have lost the settings as it went back to my non-protected list only... i gave up on 2.1 because of the protected apps, titanium backup and vvm issue that i couldn't resolve without re-reading the 2300 posts in the original damage thread and hoping that things worked that didn't seem to work 100% of the time or for everyone.

It's possible IMS Settings could have that purpose, I've seen mention of it in regard to some T-Mobile devices however IMSLogger+ has no known function whatsoever, it's simply an app called logger that has access to everything you do and everything your id does in relation to your device. As far as I can tell there is absolutely no cost in disabling this application so until someone can identify a function that requires this to be enabled, it's simply common sense to do so.
Further, and I have no idea if it's relevant or not, but even it's naming convention is different from the other associated applications:
com.sec.ims 1.0
IMS Service 1.0
IMS Settings 1.0
com.sec.imslogger 1.20150211_LDM
I understand I'm offering an incomplete picture here, but our corporate 'benefactors' have a long history of being as shady as they possibly can be until they are caught and then they just try something else... Our data is a commodity resource to these people so they'll do what they can to acquire it.
In the end it's a question of trust. I don't, so I uninstalled it, but I wanted to pass on the information should anyone else want to do the same.
Another NSA feature for the American fellows.

If your country or carrier doesn't have VoLTE then you won't have it enabled on your phone, that's why you can't find it.
EDIT:
You can check here if your carrier has it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoLTE#Deployment
So far it's only launched in Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, and USA. But even in those countries, only a few carriers have it.
Good old NSA must have had something worked out with Samsung. I bought mine in Hung Coc* as well and it too came with this IMSlogger as well that has and asks for every permission you never even thought about. No uninstall option either.
Every permission possible has been ticked by developer.

Silent Logging is not turned on by default that's why it's safe to disable.
From the looks of it, it logs diagnostic info from the cell modem. I think it's only ever used for diagnostic purposes though and is not ever turned on normally. You can enable in Service Mode or if you set system property dev.silentlog.on set to "on".
If you don't have any of the log files at:
Code:
/data/log/Slog_ril_xxxxx.log
/data/log/Slog_main_xxxxx.log (where xxxxx is the time the log got saved)
Or the config file at:
Code:

...then you don't have Silent Logging running.
As for IMSLogger, it doesn't look nefarious. It is for VoLTE though, so has anyone tried if VoLTE still work when you have IMSLogger disabled/deleted. Mind you, VoIP or Skype or any other IP/SIP over wifi or LTE is NOT VoLTE (VoLTE is specifically optimised for voice using IMS whereas none of the others are). So to test, make sure you are actually using VoLTE (and that you have it enabled in your carrier plan) and not some other VoIP solution.
It's LMS Logger
And it stands for LetMeSpy I found it on my phone as well
IMSLogger+ is used by Samsung engineers to get the processor logs and interfaces logs from the phone for debugging purposes. In Engineering firmwares it can export the IP traces in PCAP format and it has a nice interface to see all the VoLTE/SIP messages in real time. Basically it can log all the calls signalization, excluding the voice packets.
It's launched from the IMS Settings application that is used to customize VoLTE/VoWIFI/RCS parameters for each operator.
By default the IMSLogger+ doesn't log anything, Below you have a movie done from my rooted Samsung S6 Edge G925F that shows how to launch the application. I'm sure IMSLogger+ can be disabled without any impact to VoLTE. Maybe Samsung should have done it from the very beginning.

Unknown new app installed through LG Service Center Update - DrAPN_N

A few hours ago I received a notification on my Sprint LG V20 that an app was updated. Upon closer inspection I found that it was actually a new app installed through the LG Update service center or "LGinstallservice" i.e the one that updates LG's stock proprietary apps like Qmemo and their Clock app and so forth.
The app is called DrAPN_N and it installed itself as a system app. It is currently and has been running in the background process of my phone since that time.
A quick Google search only yielded a Reddit thread with a few more confused LG users with a couple different LG devices that had received the same app on their device (a few posts from today and some a few days back).
My guess (and big emphasis on the word guess) is that it's some sort of hotfix that updates the apn info that sprint has them lock down and isnt editable to a user without modifications, hence the name "Dr. APN". If that's the case I'd be curious what it changes and why. I also just remembered Sprint was doing some spectrum modifications on their old 2g network (or something like that) and realize now that it could have something to do with Sprints repurposing to increase coverage in rural areas. I forget what they are calling that rollout but that along with the name kinda equals my best guess on all of this as of now.
Screenshot below. Thanx for any input or info.
My stock unrooted TMobile variant just got that yesterday. I was wondering what it was.
I remember seeing DRapn. So i guess it's not just a Sprint thingy.
I got this app yesterday. I'm using a sprint v20, but not on sprint or in America. Previously I had been using Textra to use custom APN settings to get MMS working, and it had been fine. But upon installation of this app, those custom changes were no longer applied. Reapplying them has no effect, and now, though sms and call still functions, MMS does not. If this app represents an attempt to lock down custom APN usage, that would be distressing but would explain my failure to get MMS working now despite my efforts. I'm still looking for (an unrooted) solution to uninstall or work around this app. (I would root but am on the latest firmware and don't believe it's rootable right now, though I haven't checked in a while.)
This app just installed on my Sprint LG G5 about an hour ago and I called LG support about it. They didn't have an answer for me, but they said they would call me back when they had an answer. I'll post anything I find out here.
The app installed on my phone today. LG V20
If someone can post the apk, it could probably be disassembled to see what it does... Otherwise everyone's making guesses
DrAPN_N
It just intalled itsself on my rooted sprint v20, link to apk:

Uninstalling it and disabling the LG service that installed it now. :good:
I thought I would add that (as this app was making it impossible for my APN settings to be retained longer than a few minutes on my sprint lg V20 being used outside USA) I set about to disable it. The disable button was greyed out so I denied it permissions to change system settings and deleted its cache. To my suprise it still had the effect of undoing my APN settings. So I disabled it via ADB, and that did the trick. Been using the phone for 24 hours since and noticed no issues.
ADB?

Can you please explain how you did the process through ADB? I'm in need of doing this myself...thanks

This link explains the process.

according to LG , this app is supposed to determine and program APN automatically based on inserted SIM.
Would be nice if it had a GUI to disable itself. Do you have non-Sprint APN? What happens to your APN settings? do they reset back to sprint?
Does new APN gets unselected? deleted?

Thanks for that information.
I do have a non Sprint APN. I'm using a Sprint phone outside USA. I had had to set my phone to expect an AT&T connection, in a secret dialer menu, to get it fully working. (I described the process above.) I expect my weird set up did something Drapn was not expecting, causing it to mess up the issue it was meant to address.
Forgive this lengthy reply, but I'll leave it in case others have the same problem. Before this Drapn issue, just editing APN in regular stock android settings, while it allowed most data to work, and sms, would not allow MMS or certain kinds of messaging, like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. I have no idea why, though I did find other users online with the same problem using sprint phones outside America. Eventually I fixed the problem by marking the phone AT&T in the secret dialer menu, as described in my previous post in this thread. At that point the APN settings took hold. Until Drapn was installed, which perhaps got confused between the Sprint/AT&T/My Carrier settings. I could input APN settings into the stock android system settings, and sometimes it would work initially (other times, if I edited too many fields, the entry would vanish after I saved it) but always it would stop working after a few minutes or at least inside an hour. Had I factory reset the phone, and attempted my modifications from scratch with Drapn installed, perhaps it would have worked fine. Then again perhaps the necessary changes would have been impossible to implement.
I am not sure what APN settings Drapn was reverting me to. My custom entry would either remain but stop functioning, or else be deleted, and also stop functuoning. All I know is that nothing worked until I disabled Drapn with ADB, having deleted its cache and revoked its permissions.
Because I was using a phone modified within a secret dialer menu, I don't figure I can get 100% mad at LG for pushing an app that borked my phone. You play with fire you get burned, etc. Then again, pushing an app with no transparency as to what it does, and no freedom to disable it, is certainly not the best. I suppose now I have to worry if accepting the Oreo update will reintroduce this issue and leave my phone inoperable outside the USA.

check out the LG V30 threads. this is exactly what happened there. Unlocked by sprint phones became locked again after Oreo update. And if you are no longer on Sprint network you are stuck. So yes, you have all the reasons to worry.

Yikes. Thanks for that. Just read through a big thread, what a mess. Looking like I'll likely be trapped on Nougat. Much appreciated, at least I didn't find out the hard way.
