Ok I am a complete newb to smartphones and need some help on a couple of things.
A friend kindly donated his HTC Touch and it is/was locked or the Orange network. After following some of the info on here I have managed to flash to rom to use onyx 4.6 ultimate and I thought I also unlocked it so it can work on any network.
When I insert my three sim card the phone shows as missing or invalid SIM, so...does anyone know if this phone works with three sims cards?

mmm, that sounds like an unusual problem.
You managed to unlock and yet it did not work.
Does other sim cards work?
Can you try out with your friends sim's?
I believe he CID unlocked it. Will need to SIM unlock it also
I have managed to test with an O2 sim and it unlocked with no problems. It looks like 3 sim cards are designed differently as it still shows as missing or invalid sim.
Looks like my daughter may get this phone instead of me lol

Only 3G phones work on Three's network, so the Elf will never work on it.

as the ELF or ELFIN is a 2G phone 3 sims will never work in it i'm afraid,
as the sims are configured only to work in 3G phones,
just thought i might add this as i get a lot of customers at my work (customer services for a major UK mobile network) asking me the same question...
Ohmy, Three's network is quite 2G unfriendly.

I have installed the XDAUnlock2 program and after I run it I get a successful message, then whin I insert my other Sim (UK: 3 network) I get a message saying invalid or no sim installed. Anyone got any idea's?

you wont be able to use a 3 sim, this is a UTMS provider
people report that older 3sim cards works but newer ones dont
utms phones use gsm networks when the coverish of utms is absent
Have you tried a sim card from any other network in your xda2 just to make sure the phone unlocked correctly?
I was under the impression that 3 network uses different types of SIM cards depending on when you bought your sim.
From what I can tell it seems to be luck of the draw whether your SIM works or not. (newer USIMs being less compatible)
Does the SIM work in any other GSM phones?
Personally I wouldn't bother persuing this - as I seems, from reading other posts on this forum, that you'd probably be limited to just calls. It seems that SMS and GPRS don't always work.
Hey, I just bought a Tmobile Htc Hd2 in usa last week which has a sim lock, and I just want to learn how to unlock this phone and use my non-tmobile sim card. And the other thing is, If I am going to flash a new rom, what about the sim lock. Will it be unlocked by flashing a custom rom.

Are you a TmoUS customer coz if so you will be able to unlock your phone from them. You just have yo request it.
If you are not a TmoUS customer you will be able to unlock your phone via using htccode.com, unlock-now.com, or others. There are a lot of unlockers on the web or at ebay if you like you just have to search for it. Google is your friend. Try searching for "HTC HD2 Unlocker."
Now if you already have the code unlocking the phone is easy. Insert your non TmoUS sim card ie. your Turkish sim card then power it on then the phone will recognize that the sim is not TmoUS and ask for a code. Just enter the code and your done.
Flashing the phone with custom ROM's will not unlock your phone.

ok for u all that want ur tmous hd2 unlocked the best way to do so is to call tmobile and if u hav an account and its in good standing to ask for the unlock code they will give it to u

i used cellunlock..
but tmous just released a Rom update..
1) you should ideally install the update first.. (it'll hard reset your peice)
2) Get you Imie by pressing *#06# on your phone
3) Send the Imie to cellunlock
4) then insert a local Sim card
5) It will ask for an unlock code..enter the code cellunlock gives you and Voila
Also.. when youre buying the code from cellunlock enter 'berryscoop' in the discount code to get 50 % off

I called t-mobile to get min unlocked and 2 days later they e-mailed me the code. I tried the phone with ATT sim it worked fine..I need the code because I might go on vacation to middle east.

Looking for the similar solution, but you do not need an account number. All you need is a copy of the invoice showing full retail price. If anyone is willing to share how the invoice is supposed to look like... I would delete all confidential information including the IME Number before posting the copy of the invoice. For those of us living outside US this is the only way to get this done.

You will also have to register your phone with Turk Telcom or who ever you use. I took a US unlocked phone into Turkey a few years ago and was using a local sim card. Recieved text message from Turk Telcom that my phone would be disabled if it wasn't registered within a few days

I bought an TmoUS HTC HD2, i live in lebanon and i want to use it on the lebanese carriers sim, anyhow i flashed the phone to DFT Wp7 ROM ! everything is working fine ... i recieved the unlock code from t-mobile USA for unlocking the Sim, im following th instructions as the e-mail says and here how it's happening :

the phone says the Code is accepted and opens th WP7 home page, what im getting confused of is that the sim is still locked no network coverage and can't see any network coverage and if i go to the dial pad it asks for the sim unlock again :S ....

i havent unlock and i dont want to lead u the wrong way but make sure your hd2 has hspl done allready and probably dont have to upgrade but the radio and u dont have to mess with the rom just my suggestion lol

it will be fine. changing the rom has no effect on sim/network lock.

Is there a way around it in order to receive the new upgrade? The only thing I can think of is re-locking it to T-Mobile, upgrade, and then unlock it again. But that seems kinda crazy to me and where would I find the T-Mobile lock code. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

what does the red bit mean? do you mean when you enter your serial number into the t mobile website to get the update?
two things, firstly, thats very odd, normally when you unlock the network it has no effect on the rom lock. None at all. (Sure you are getting your serial correct? )
secondly, theres abound to be a mirror around here somewhere.
I have and unlocked Tmous HD2 that I mainly use in T-mobile network but when I travel to South America I use the phone with Movistar (Uruguay and Argentina sim cards). I updated the phone to 2.13 and it didn't lock the phone, the phone is still unlocked and the Movistar sim cards works just fine as they did before.

buy a code or ask the operator who sold you it. there is no free unlocking.

Yes, phone was working. have used the phone both in India & Europe with the original ROM
In US, HTC couldn't detect any Network even tried Manual. Tried updating the ROM, no luck. Currently this is what I have on my HTC with WM6.5

As that is the case, the only thing I can suggest at the moment would be trying different radios - I have an Elf in the same position which also randomly stopped picking up networks, which I am still trying to find a fix for
I do hope it is not the internal antenna or something like that.

Recently I got a 256 K SIM for elf. But it keeps searching the network and doesnot lock onto that network with 256K Sim. Help me
Did it work with another sim? If this is the case obviously you have to ask your provider, if not try updating your radio software.

As I said, update your radio firmware and if this doesn't work, contact your provider.
