I have attempted to set up GPRS on my M600 (Unlocked for Vodafone sim)
GPRS has been enabled as I have the G icon up!
I have been on the vodafone website and tried there settings with no luck!
I have been on the Filesaveas website and plugged in all of those settings with NO luck, Have also installed the I-mate .cab again with no luck!!!
I am starting to go insane spent three days trying all different settings and No luck at all!!!!
You name the website and I think Ihave probably tried it.
Does anyone have any useful advise for me, provide me with some form of sanity check!!!!
Ideally I wold love a .cab file to install!
But would like feedback from anyone else in a similar position, on how they resolved this some what annoying issue!!!!
regards
Wilko_007
I set up my Vario II for Vodafone with no problem. These settings (*.pdf file) seem to be the same as the ones I used, see how they compare with the settings you are using.
Many thanks I will give it a go!
Ok have now got connection but I can't surf?
I have seen comments about GPRS beening fully enabled?
Are there 2 forms of GPRS that can be enabled? WAP & WEB???
Do I need to worry about the Dialing Rules???
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

Could you be a little more specific i.e. does it come up with a pop-up box stating that it is connecting to GPRS? If yes, which connection does it say it is connecting to, is it the correct one (i.e. the new GPRS settings that you have just keyed in)? When you say it won't surf, what do you mean exactly ... are you using Pocket IE and does it come up with any error messages etc...
Connection via GPRS No probs I then get the Small G and the two arrows fixed on the bar.
Enter IE and type google for example.
get the status bar flash up breifly and then disapear, with no change to the original Orange World Home page!!!
No errors what so ever????
okay ... the next thing I would probably do then is download an alternative browser to see if it still happens in a different browser. Netfront is pretty good. At least that way you should be able to establish if it is a GPRS problem or a browser problem.
Ok I now have installed Netfront and connected to the GPRS!
typed in www.google.com
I have a warning screen:
Browser Warning
Cannot load Page
Type: DNS no server is specified
?????
Okay .. I am running out of ideas now, it does sound like your GPRS Settings are still wrong.
Click 'start menu', 'settings' and go to the 'Connections' tab. Now click 'Connections', then the 'Advanced' tab then 'Select Networks'. The first box (ie. Programs that connect to the Internet automatically) should say 'My Isp' and if you click 'Edit', it should show you 'Vodafone Internet' is selected.
If you then select to edit that, you should see in this order 'Vodafone Internet' and then it should show modem type as GPRS, next page should show Access Point Name of 'Internet', next page should show User name 'Web' ... password is the same, domain field should be blank ... nothing needs to be done in the advanced tab because the default of 'Use-server-assigned IP address' should automatically be selected, same for the server tab too, default should be server-assigned.
These are the settings that work fine on both my XDA Mini S and my MDA Vario II.
Right I have checked both ISP and MyWork Network, all correct!
The only thing I can see is that the password box has loads of characters (*'s) instead of just 3 *'s for WEB (***)
But every thing else is as the PDF??
Stumped!!!!
you can try messing with the newly released ms network tools there is a link in development forum
or you can try manualy typing in a know dns server in the settings
unless the gprs dont route the request
any dsn server ip will do
same as pc's really
I am afraid I don't know then ... we have reached the level of my knowledge (which isn't high )
Perhaps somebody with a little more technical knowhow on GPRS issues may be able to help you.
Sorry I couldn't get it sorted for you.
Thanks for your help a least I can connect now!!
Thank you again!!
anyone heard of the connection No. being *99#?
Vodafone instructed me to put that in the setup?
I guess that goes in under the " My Work Network" Vodafone Wap - Number?
This is now becoming a huge headache anyone got any ideas?
not sure how vodaphone handle it but i never heard about
ppl having to add numbers when they picked gprs as connection
belived that was only if you connected around grps

I'm expericening a similar problem.
My phone was sold as an O2 XDA Mini S. My O2 contract/account doesn't allow GPRS (they want me to upgrade) so I tried my Vodafone PAYG SIM and it works without having to have the phone unlocked in any way. By that I mean I can use voice calls and using the settings I've found through this site I can send MMS messages via GPRS but I cannot connect to the internet. I've checked with Vodafone and the account will allow internet and GPRS etc.
The only thing that I can see that is wrong is the password. Whenever I type "web" then finish, it always defaults back to a string of 16 ***'s when I re-check the settings.
I've even done a hard reset and used the corporate install to no avail. I don't want to run any sort of unlocking software if I don't need to as I don't want to create a very expensive door stop.
Any ideas?
The string of asterisks is normal, I think it is just a method used by Windows to make the password more difficult for someone to guess i.e. by disguising not only the characters but also the number of characters.
I just double checked and my fully working settings also show a row of asterisks despite it being a 3 character password.
Thanks Nicky
I'll keep plodding away with this but hopefully someone might steer me in the right direction soon.

Have searched for this and find nothing:
Whenever I restart my TyTn, GPRS connects automatically. I have not configured my email to check for mails at specific intervals. Please help me with this. Thanks!
I think your connection is configured as "always on". You can change it in the registry....

Indeed, or if you're not confident about changing registry use something like Tweaks2k2 to make the change for you along with lots of other little tricks.

requires .net framework also downloadable on same page

You could try a less drastic approach:
Check:
Settings, Connection-tab, Connections, Advance-tab.
(hope this is correct, I don't have an english rom-version)
There you should be able to select which connection is automatically used. I have this on T-Mobile default connection since I have an unlimited dataplan and use direct-push.
When using the phone as modem, I have to switch this "off"/different setting eg. work connection to avoid conflicts.
Hope this helps

We like drastic, drastic is sooooo gooood!!
Seriously though the originator does not say he does not want to use GPRS only that he does not want it starting automatically. So the connection type maybe correct only it needs its bottom smacked for running off without daddy. We have ways in the registry to control such dis-respectful behaviour and baby Hermes must be punished or else get sent to bed with no active sync with Mummy.
Mike
Thanks for your help. I am quite comfortable with editing the registry. What specifically in the registry should I edit. Thanks!
EDIT: I already FOUND it! Thanks for the help everyone!!!
Sup,
I'm having trouble connecting to my wireless router with my Qtek 9000 Windows Mobile 5.
Technically it is connected, but no webpage loads. It's a netgear wireless G router with the settings set to b/g.
I tried in both, PIE and Opera.
I tried with "Phone" on and off to see if that makes a difference.
I get an error message in PIE:
"The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was
lost. Check the connection and try again later."
Google is the only page that loads, but I think because its cached?
I get this message when I try a search:
"The page cannot be displayed because the server could not be found or a DNS error occurred."
The error I get in Opera is:
"Could not connect to proxy server
http://mail.google.com/mail/"
when connecting to gmail.com.
Please, any help?
Edit:
I have another problem too. Youtube worked in Opera with Flash Player 7 PPC except the video loaded like the first 29seconds and then stopped. When I would play what was loaded, it would lag play and then go to the replay/share screen.
I also tried the FlashVideoBundle + TCPMP combo. With the combo, I tried with and without Flash7 installed and it doesn't work at all on PIE. I would get a "Video not available" error when clicking on a search result on Youtube.
So if anyone has a solution for this problem too, please advise.
Reply:
Go to the Connections Tab in settings,
Then click the Connections icon
Click the advanced Tab
Click Select Networks
Change both Drop Down Menus to "My ISP"
Click OK till you get to the Home Screen and try accessing a webpage...
I hope This Works
But wouldn't that mess up my GPRS settings?
BTW, thanks for the reply.
Dude, it worked! Awesome!
So if I have to use T-MobileWeb (tzones) GPRS, I just switch both back to work?
BTW Thanks.
Can not connect to Wifi after WM 6 upgrade
I just changed all my settings to MY ISP and I'm still getting connection errors
A Delayed Response
Sorry about failing to respond for a while...but, anywho... in the screen with the drop down menus...you're gonna want to set the first drop down menu to "My ISP" and the second drop down menu to whatever GPRS connection you use...respond with details if this fails to be of help
And...a response to Ol' Blake
The ISP setting that your attempting to change won't affect the failure to connect to certain wifi...some problems with the WM6 for the Jasjar prevent the device to connect to wifis with WPA security...I believe...I'm writing this through personal experience and what I have read in other posts...btw...is the wifi that you are attempting to connect to password protected?
Hello,
I have a problem with my P3600. I need to use a proxy-setting when I connect to my office network via WiFi. I have the necessary data (i.e. IP address and port number) and it works flawlessly on my old HTC Wizard. However, on my new P3600 the http proxy data keep disappearing each time I leave the settings and connect to the network. The connection is apparently fine but I cannot get any data through.
Regardless how I enter the data, they are gone the next time I check. By the way, it appears that (at least under some circumstances) the SOCKs proxy data are remembered!???
I have tried all combinations of settings I can think of and I am slowly suspecting that something is wrong with the phone. Nevertheless, I've noticed that other people have had similar problems. Unfortunately I've seen no solution yet.
At home, where I use no proxy, everything works fine.
I assume that the P3600 simply "forgets" (doesn't save and doesn't use) the http proxy data and that this is the reason for my problems. But why does that happen? As said, it works well on my old HTC Wizard when I enter the same data in the same places.
This problem is highly annoying, so any help would be highly appreciated.
Fyi, I am using the generic German version HTC P3600 in German language.
Hi,
am I really the only one in here having this problem? Someone here claims, it is a known bug: http://www.mobileplanet.com/ft.aspx?k=99497&page=1
Is it likely that the problem will be solved if I flash a WM6?
Anyway, isn't there a kind of work-around for this problem in WM5/P3600? If people can port and cook a WM6 from another device and do complicated programs etc., I would assume that fixing the proxy-problem with some sort of patch should be relatively easy. But of course, if one doesn't have the problem himself, one doesn't have much motivation to look at it (I am not complaining, but unfortunately I neither have the time nor the skills for solving the problem myself).

A big problem for me
In my company, we use proxy , I can´t use my super P3600 because it don´t remenber the Proxy. Incredible!!
WM5 Spanis version.
There are some one with WM6 that can confirm if it works with that version.?
Thanks
There is a solution -Kinda!
I have found that if there are two networks, ie one for your GPRS and the second for your "My Work Network" then it remembers your proxy settings This is as close as I have got to a solution.
Cheers
The problem has been SOLVED!
Dear all,
As pointed out above, it appears that the Trinity cannot save/use http proxy data as long as there is no other connection defined. I can now confirm that if you define (even a fake) connection to, say, a GPRS provider, the P3600 will remember your proxy data in the WiFi setting. Weird, but it works ;-)
Thank you so much for this hint.
Best regards,
>V<
Found another solution
Hi,
I tried the solution proposed, creating a fake connection, and sometimes it worked, but others no.
I have found what happens: Activesync changes one registry key, the corresponding to the Work connection via http, in my case:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{18AD9FBD-F716-ACB6-FD8A-1965DB95B814}]
"Type"=dword:00000001
from 1 to 0, and with this value the PDA doesn't read correctly another value:
"Proxy"="my.proxy.server:3128"
although it is correctly informed.
The solution I have implemented is to execute a script (made with SKschema, which I use for another automatisations), that changes this value after a sync has been finished. This is automatically done creating a notification with Memmaid.
Now after the first unsuccessfull sync, the key is updated and it works like a charm.
You DID it!
I could confirmed that by changing the type from 0 to 1 did the trick as mentioned by Rodaldfa! It works immediately after modification! Type=0 means "disable this proxy" and Type=1 means "Http proxy".
However, I don't think it's Activesync which reset this value to 0. I had done various times of AS after setting the Type=1 with regedit, and it always maintain Type=1. But if I enter then exit the comm manager, it resets the Type=0 on exit.
The procedure is to set all proxy info (include passwd...) then exit Comm Manager (CM), then use any regedit to modify the Type value. Then NEVER go back to CM afterward...
Thus, I suggest modify type to 1 then avoid entering CM. AS works just fine for me...
I am using HTC Tytn II (Kaiser) with WM 6.0 in Traditional Chinese.
Hello!
I own a htc diamond and want to access a wifi network that's using a HTTP proxy. I can connect to the network itsself. However, the proxy settings aren't applied or sometimes deleted when I disactivate and reactivate wifi. When I try it at home, it can still access the internet even if I set the proxy server. (I don't have a proxy server at home, so it shouldn't work then...)
With a iPod Touch/iPhone the following settings work:
Server: server-01.hak-reutte.ac.at
Port: 8080
I also have to authenticate using an username and password, but I think there's also a web form so it's not necessary to configure that in the proxy configuration.
Thank you,
Simon

If you use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Centre verify the connection settings are NOT set to automatic. If they are then the Proxy settings are overwritten each time you connect to your PC to sync. If you want to use a proxy over WiFi then you need to make sure your 'Work' connection settings specify the proxy and you need to configure the WiFi settings to 'Connects to Work' (or whatever it says, but NOT 'Internet').
Andy
Hi ADB100!
Thanks for your answer. The problem occurs even when I'm not connected to ActiveSync. Somehow the proxy server is reset when the WLAN is used. I tried the application WmWifiProfiles, but the problem is still there. When I set the proxy server and exit the settings application, the settings for HTTP proxy are somehow not saved. (When I reopen the settings dialog, the http proxy setting is blank, but the proxy for socks is still there.)

Simon

Do you have proxy auto-discovery on?
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
EnableAutoDetect=00000001
If its set to 1 then proxy auto-discovery is enabled, 0 is disabled.
I have no idea if it is this but worth a shot?
Andy
Hi ADB100!
AutoDetect wasn't acticated. (The key didn't exist.) I tried creating the key with value 0 and 1, but didn't help.
I think this must be a bug, because there are a lot of topics about this problem. Unfortuntatly, nobody seems to have a solution for this problem .
I tried changing the registry keys in HKLM/Comn/ConnMgr/Providers/. That worked, because the internet connection was dead then . I think it's possible to work around the problem by changing this keys. I will try that next week and when that really fixes the problem, I'll probably release an application for it.
However, do have some ideas left?
Thanks,
Simon
Bizarre....
I have never seen this on any of the Windows Mobile PDA's I have had.
I know if the connection settings: 'This computer is connected to:' are set to anything other than 'Automatic' then it resets any proxy you configure. I have mine set to 'Work Network' and the settings are never overwritten. I use a proxy at home and remember playing around with these settings as I had similar issues initially.
I know there is a known issue of the 'Hidden Proxy' if you let the device configure itself using the 'Connection Setup'. I have never let my device do this and have manually configured the HSDPA/GPRS settings.
Andy
Hi ADB100!
I've also aborted the connection setup, cause I didn't want my device to use HSDPA automatically.
I'm not 100% sure but I think my old device (HTC S730) had also some problems with the proxy, but I was able to solve them. Maybe it's also a problem with my ROM.
How stable/fast are the current RC builds of 6.5? Are they ready for every day use?
Thank you,
Simon

I haven't tried any 6.5 ROMs for any period of time as they all seemed too buggy. I am on an almost stock 5.2.19212 ROM that I have lightly customised in a kitchen and I am happy with it.

This is really annoying... When you search the forums for "wifi proxy" you'll get more than 10 threads with the same problem, but without a solution.
You are using a wifi router with proxy at home and it works, right?
I'll upgrade to 6.5 now, maybe this fixes the problem...
Thanks,
Simon

Yes, I have MS ISA 2006 and it works.....
Truely amazing. I've upgraded to 6.5 and the problem is still there :-(. I've the radio from the latest official diamond rom. Could an other radio fix the problem?
//edit: Just to describe my problem further: When I set the proxy, exit the dialog and reopen the dialog, the proxy is there. When I open the internet explorer then, the http proxy gets deleted. However, the socks proxy is kept. This is kind of frustrating...
Thanks,
Simon
Read this one: http://www.htc.com/www/faqs.aspx?p_id=13&cat=0&id=36792 According to this article wifi + proxy should not work. What can I do now?
// Update: This looks extremly promising: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1990412#post1990412 I'll try that immediatly and post the results. If that works, I'll build an application to simplify applying the fix.
Thanks,
Simon
My status is too. Please help me!
It's a bug, that's sure. I finally got the proxy working, but after reconnecting the proxy settings were blank again .
Just to let you know I was also having problems with proxies and a google led me to this thread. For me, the advice in post 2 worked perfectly. I am using a 6.5 rom on a Touch HD.
Hi SivEd!
Did you also have the problem that your proxy settings get reset when you reconnect to the wifi network?
I've written an app that resolves this issue, let me know if you want to test.
Hi Anks!
Please upload your app, this is a real problem for me.
Thanks,
Simon
Simon, sent you a PM.
The problem seems to be fixed in recent Windows Mobile 6.5 builds, at least for me. I'm using build 21812. Unfortunatly, proxy authentification seems not to work in Opera. In Internet Explorer a dialog appears where I have to enter my username and password. Opera doesn't display such a dialog. But the main problem (proxy setting gets deleted) has been resolved.
HTH,
Simon
