Setting for TCP window size - Networking

I think by increasing my TCP window size, I have significantly increased my EDGE speed
So the question is...what is a good TCP size for EDGE in fair signal strength?

I believe the default value is 65536
As per the "Advance Configuration Tool" - A larger windows size can inprove data connection throughput.
The is an option to choose a value of 98304.

Exactly!
I used 65538 for a longtime because anything over 64K (65536) winmo will automatically enable window scaling.

Camera Hack

As I know, in the Registry
Hkey Local Machine\Software\HTC\Camera\RecParam\MP4Medium
Hkey Local Machine\Software\HTC\Camera\RecParam\MP4Small
I am able to change the factory FrameRate value from 10 to 19...
This is good news
Well, the Medium size is 176x144 pixel and Small size is 128x96 pixel by default.
But!
There is another Key :
Hkey Local Machine\Software\HTC\Camera\RecParam\MP4Large, but I am not able to select Large option in the Camera Settings page, just only Small and Medium.
What shell I have to change in the Registry to make Large videosize available in the Camera Settings page ?
(And what dimension should I use by selecting Large ? 320x240 ?)

You can not. there is no 320X240 in Charmer's Video Camera application.
But you can use "CoolCamera" for even 640X480 in video mode.
download it from here: http://www.ateksoft.com/files/CoolCamera.cab

Cache optimizing improves HD

Setting the
File system cache to 8MB, the file system filter cache to 131072 sectors and the glyph cache to 64 KB improves the HD performance appreciable.
Especially for Opera, MSBrowser, videos and streaming applications like Diamond TV.
Check it!
Remark:
1. We have a lot of unexperienced users here, therefore i recommend the use of a special programm to change the cache settings urgently instead of crashing the registry manually!
Additionally to Schaps ACT 3.3, MemMaid 2.0 and SKTools could be helpful, but sure there are others still around.
2. Read the complete thread, most questions and answers are given.
3. I recommend only the settings i gave in that post. To high cache settings like the later posted 30MB are not recommended. May be they have good influence to one application, but they do destabilize the whole system.
4. Don't look for wonders. It's just to improve some applications and could not change basic problems.
And how do you do that?

Use Schap's Advanced Config - that has all the options you need. I've made the changes, but have no benchmarks to prove anything...
vincent1 is fully correct. A very visible impact i noticed is on coreplayer, some videos have become suddenly very smooth!
Hey! this is the most performing tweak I've ever tried up to now. It impacts almost everything in the smoothness of operations - I tried different values in the past but apparently you really have to push them to the maximum to see a change....
A MUST!
oh yes, it's faster !
Does these tweaks affect negative battery consumption (increased consumption)?
OMG!
VERY noticable improvement - MANY THANKS!
Can I vote that this gets added to the Wiki under "things you MUST do"?
You are welcome guys This is a community, isn't?
You should not have an increased battery drain.
What version are you running:
Advanced Configuration Tools 3.3?
Advanced Config_v2[1].0.1.0 ?
Advanced Config_v2100 ?

But you will have an increased memory leak...
Correct, ACT 3.3 isn'n allways working in some points on the HD, but the cache optimizing could be done very easy with it.
Yep increased memory leak, but very small and on the HD to neglect
Did the same using diamondtweak, huge improvement. Memorry leak is about 10 MB overnight, so not too bad if you reboot your device every day.

10MB is quite significant in an 8 hour (assuming this is sort of average sleeping time) slot.
is it really worth it?
What exactly causes the memory leak - Windows or Schapps tool?

The exagerrated growth of the caches.
How many free memory have the HD at the end of the day(with this mod)?
How can I apply these changes to the registry without using shaps tool?

Increase font cache
To increase the font cache, speeding up font rendering at the cost of a bit of memory:
HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 16384 (DWORD decimal)
To change it back to the default:
HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 8192 (DWORD decimal)
You can set the value to pretty much anything you like
Enable FileSystem cache
To enable the FileSystem cache, speeding up overall performance at the risk of the cache not being written on a sudden reset:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache = 1 (DWORD decimal)
To disable again:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Note that by default, the cache size is zero, and you will see no effect. See "Increase FileSystem cache" to incease the cache size
Increase FileSystem cache
To increase the file system cache:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize = 4096 (DWORD decimal)
To return the file system cache to zero:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize = 0 (DWORD decimal)
You can set the value to pretty much anything you like
Increase FileSystem filter cache
To enable the file system filter cache, speeding up overall performance with file mangement:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize = 4096 (DWORD decimal)
To return the file system filter cache to zero:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize = 0 (DWORD decimal)
You can set the value to pretty much anything you like
Source and Source
Never had less than 90MB of memory left. So I do not care about 8MB over night. Better have a fast device instead jubilee about free memory I do not use anyway.
But to be honest. Not much of an accelaration with me. Already used the advised settings from schaps' tool. 2MB/4096Sectors/32kB

Tip for browsing with Opera Mobile 9.7 on the HD

Adaptive Zoom
Don’t want to zoom to click a link? Try this..
1. Open opera’s preference editor by going to the following link:
opera:config
Note there is no http:// proceeding the link.
2. Click on Adaptive Zoom and try the following settings:
Browser Buffer Height = 4096
Browser Buffer Width = 800
Maximum Zoom = 100
Minimum Overview Zoom = 100
Minimum Zoom = 100
Virtual Screen Width = 800
Zoom Slider Maxinmum = 200
This should set your screen up so it no long needs to zoom to click a link but also makes the virtual page width the same size as the screen in landscape mode.

Hi,
thanks for the Tip ... but,
In 9.7b1 I can't find:
- Maximum Zoom
- Maximum Overview Zoom
- Minimum Zoom
- Zoom Slider Maximum
in 9.5 they exist but not in 9.7
not sure if it's something i've done, but after making those changes i can't launch Opera any more!!
I get the htc loading page for about about 20 seconds and then it just closes - anyone else had this problem or know how to solve?

It also makes the text tiny.
Does anyone have the original settings please, stupidly I did not note them down.

In Opera 9.5 i have the following settings which allow me to open links without zooming. Min overview zoom is the only changed variable.
Browser Buffer Height = 1400
Browser Buffer Width = 960
Maximum Zoom = 200
Minimum Overview Zoom = 85
Minimum Zoom = 160
Virtual Screen Width = 960
Zoom Slider Maxinmum = 500
So will altering these settings change the width of text elements and reduce the amount of zoom? I'm running this on an HX4700 with a 4.0" screen (I know, I'm getting my touch HD in less than 30 hours). When the zoom action happens, it automatically zooms to the width of the column element (ingenious) so I can scroll throught he column without side scrolling. However the width of the elements are too narrow and as such causes the zoom to be too high. I'd like to use the 4" display and VGA rez to read smaller but more amount of text.
I've no idea mate sorry. I just copies and writes up what i sees

Just noted these down from my new HD, here they are:
Browser Buffer Height = 1400
Browser Buffer Width = 960
Maximum Zoom = 200
Minimum Overview Zoom = 60
Minimum Zoom = 160
Virtual Screen Width = 960
Zoom Slider Maxinmum = 500
Thank you very much saad.salman & Freypal
i've been looking for that setting (minimum overview zoom) for a while - cheers!!

Get a hold of opera.ini >>windows>opera9
edit the file, the first few lines are the ones you will need to change.
Just copied this from mine..
[Adaptive Zoom]
Minimum Zoom=160
Minimum Overview Zoom=70
Browser Buffer Height=1400
Browser Buffer Width=960
Maximum Zoom=200
Virtual Screen Width=960
Zoom Slider Maximum=500
after changing back, having had the same problem you did...
Good Luck

Just note that with this tweak you will lose the ability to trigger mouseover action for links.

I could only imagine it being in the one of the following
\Windows
\Windows\Opera
Possible \Application Data but unlikely I think.
I'm running the standard 6.1 HTC original ROM.
Forget all that. Everything is running. It didn't go as smooth and understandable as I might have hoped, but it works now. Thanks!

[Q] best values for build properties?

Hi, friends
I'm using droid overclock and with it I can change some things in build properties.
Do you know what are the best values for "dalvik vm heap size" and "max events per second"?
I want values for more speed and smothness on screen transitions..

[Guide]Build.prop mini-guide

Introduction:
This is a mini-guide on some common edits to the stock build.prop to make it faster.
What is build.prop?
Build.prop is what holds the majority of the runtime flags that are used when android boots, think of it as being similar to config.sys on dos or environment variables in various OS's. It only holds variables, it cant run any scripts on it's own. Whatever is placed inside depends on android itself to pay attention to the flag and actually use it.
Entries:
debug.sf.hw
Controls hardware acceleration of some rendering commands
default value: 0
recommended value: 1
dalvik.vm.heapsize
Maximum size limit on heap for any one app
default value: 40m
recommended value: 64m(?)
media.stagefright.enable-player
media.stagefright.enable-meta
media.stagefright.enable-scan
media.stagefright.enable-http
Enables/Disables Stagefright, a method of speeding up the home screen(?)
default value: false
recommended value: true

Can we put more than 64m in dalvik.vm.heapsize? something like 84m? Will it be safe?

From my understanding, there is a tradeoff with the size. the larger the size, bigger apps load faster, but smaller apps have issues. The smaller the size, smaller apps load better, but larger ones tend to have issues. So there has to be a happy medium.
