findings and impressions after 24 hours of the mytouch 3g - myTouch 3G, Magic General

-the android keyboard works best with all the features enabled
-the android keyboard does not "learn" your new words unless you enter them manually (why? please fix this, this is such a necessary feature)
-3g reception is a crapshoot at my house
-the phone has no proximity sensor and no light sensor.
-the gel case from the t-mobile store is the best fitting case ive found.
-the black 3g has a soft touch cover, whereas the white does not.
-push gmail is insanely instant
-the transflective screen is really useful in sunlight.
-many different apps in the market do the same thing.
-bettercut is worth the 1.99
-pixelpipe is worth the 1.99
-opera mini is equally fast on edge and 3g.
-after freaking out for a few hours about trying to have the most available free ram, i realized that the phone does a decent job at managing the ram, and i gave up.
-meebo is faster than palringo, although meebo does not show mobile contacts.
-the camera is insanely nice.
-the voice dialing doesnt work when im trying to show someone.
-the battery is actually decent if im not goofing around on the phone for 4 hours constantly.
-i cant install apps to the sd card
-i didnt need to buy an 8 gig sd card.
-t-mobile store employees are dumb for telling me that the 2 year warranty plan covers the battery, which caused me to drive back to return it after getting home to read the terms and conditions.
-skype does not call over the internet, instead it calls this random number.
-sherpa doesnt have a default for hospitals
-more cowbell is amazingly addictive, but it cannot play an mp3 in the background like the iphone version.
-with full reception, my 3g download speed was 818KB/s
-i cant set a signature in the imap/pop3 email client.
-compare everywhere is so far the best barcode application that i have tried.
-theres no facebook application
-with x.facebook.com you cant comment on people's statuses.
-when typing fast, iphone keyboard is superior
-when typing moderately, android keyboard suffices, and is comparable to iphone's keyboard
-when typing fast, android keyboard lags a little bit.
-htc keyboard lags, period.
-folders are really useful.
-the phone doesnt display a date anywhere when on the home screen.
-the phone is a bit laggy from time to time, not as seamless as i would like. by doing so, it shows its weakness.
-on the sms screen, when rotating with keyboard down, it is faster than the iphone, with keyboard up, it is slower.

I agree with most of the above, 3g is not so fast in my area, about half that speed.
Just thought I would point out that you can get the date on the home screen by pressing at the top to engage the notification pulldown, the date pops up on the left as soon as you do this.

Rants about the Touch Dual? comments pls.

Hi guys, considering getting a Touch Dual as my next phone, currently using a HP6300 series
would like to gather some feedback on some of the complaints i have seen on other forums on this model. this is impt as i feel that when getting a device, i need to like both the features and also be able to accept the faults as well
1. Battery life - with 3G turned on my Dual can't get through a day of normal busines use without charging. With 3G turned off I have to charge it every night to get through the next day. The M600 used to survive the weekend at least (if I turned the radio off at night).
2. Signal strength - the M600 managed to hold on to its signal for most of my daily train journey to work (up the main line from Basingstoke to London). I could expect to hold onto a call for a few minutes most of the time. Unfortunately the Dual doesn't cope. In 3G mode it barely holds signal long enough to dial a call. In GSM mode, it usually drops the call before I can introduce myself. It also seems to take forever to retrain to a new cell. This drives me (and my customers) mad when someone else is happily continuing their call a few feet away at the same time.
3. Keyboard - I echo all of the points Gears made. I was pretty quick with the stylus on the M600 and hoped the keys would speed things up as the Dual has a smaller screen so is more fiddly to use with a pen. That the keyboard driver isn't clever enough to switch context sensibly just makes me laugh - insanely. That it can't display the letters as fast as I can (sensibly) type them on the keyboard is pathetic.
4. Speed and crashing - it's a joke that the software can't cope with displaying numbers on the screen as you dial them the keyboard. It's painful that often the SMS application locks up so you can't read the messages. It's ridiculous that the memory management doesn't clean up properly after you force quit these applications in an attempt to resolve these issues and you've got to reboot the phone.
I'd love to love the Dual. At first glance it's good looking and slim and light and for all its faults I'm trying to continue to use it but my blood pressure won't stand it for long. I don't want to say that there is nothing good about the Dual - WM technology has come a long way for sure - it just drives me mad that HTC, Microsoft and Orange combined can't or won't put in a little extra effort to make it do the basic things properly. I don't need a flashy media player, I need to read my emails; I don't need to make video calls over 3G, I need to make voice calls reliably; I don't need GPS but I'd love a battery which lasts better than my first GSM mobile in 1994. At the moment the Dual doesn't do it. And I'm sad about that because I don't think this specific product needs to be as frustrating as it is to use every day.

the above is a rant from coolsmartphone forumer.....
based on the above...the Touch Dual sounds almost unusable!!...
anyone care to comment on the above?? would really appreciate it
Please see following link for some of my comments on this device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=370336
Regarding the comments about the battery, signal strength, and keyboard, I really haven't encountered any of those problems. I happen to find all these things quite alright.
The stability thing is a little true. But if you look around this forum, ppl have found various tweaks to fix most of the problems and make the device a joy to use. The comment about the phone not being able to handle numbers as you dial is quite ignorant. There is a little lag, but that's because as you dial, the phone searches through all your contacts in real time to select and display those contacts who's number and/or name matches what you are dialing. I find this feature to be extremely useful.

yup been searching around, read several "mini" reviews including views in this f0rum....but this rant seems to be the worst lol..just wanted to know if those complaints were really that bad...
although i knoe this will be a big leap from my 6300 LOL...just want to make sure i can accept its flaws...
1.is the ringing volume really as soft as mentioned above? my 6300 is really soft..can it get any worse than that lol
2. stability of course is of utmost importance...as long as there are tweaks to improve this...i'm cool
generally happy with the stability. Especially after latest ROM update, have not had any impromptu phone restarts.
Tend to agree with signal strength - I have been getting drop-outs that never happened when I had a nokia E65 (also a slider).
Battery life is fine for me (ie same as all phones these days - expect to charge every night), I do not use bluetooth very often though.
I will say, though, the most annoying design is the USB port. It's exposed, and has long, thin pins. The pins in mine have gotten bent (easy to do if you put USB cable in upside down, or your child thinks it's a good place to jam the stylus), and although I can straighten with some fiddling, it's gotten pretty bad, and I will have to return to get it repaired properly.
I admit that the out-of-the-box touch dual is far from perfect. I have been using it for 6 months and I am still trying to 'tame' it. I think I have made so progress now so here it is:
1) Flash to a wm6.1 rom for the latest drivers
2) Use pocket plus instead of the HTC X-button. You have to uncheck everything in the X-button, reset, then install pocket plus
3) I use spb mobile shell 2.0 and spb diary on today only. No HTC home.
4) Disable cube --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368269&highlight=biotouch
After I have disabled the not-used cube, not only do I have about 7megs of memory more, but I seem to notice a significant improvement to the battery life. With spb mobile shell you absolutely don't need cube. Recommended.

This is personal preference. I don't like pocket plus.
But I use Ultimate Launch, Mobile Shell 2, Wisbar Advance 3, BatteryStatus and PhoneAlarm to accomplish what I need.
Somewhere along the line, my volume button stopped working (it now locks up my phone) and I am too lazy to hard reset and figure out why but will do it soon.
But I'm with everyone else - while the niki is not perfect, fiddle with it a little and you'll get what you want. It's a great phone.

My experience with the HD2

I have the device for 5 days and i went through every little corner of it so i would like to share this with you and maybe help others make a decision to buy it or not.
Hardware:
1. Very good build quality. The rubber coding and the metal plate feels good.
2. Its incredibly thin!
3. The camera has sharp edges which scratches my desk. I always put the phone on top of the leather pouch that came with it so i don't scratch my desk.
4. The screen is impressive. Having a capacitive 4.3'' screen on a WM device is like being in haven.
5. The earpiece does a good job. Its better than my (sold) TP2, but not too loud (as some have reported).
6. The speaker is decent. Not too loud and not to quiet. Having a device so small i guess its impossible to put a better speaker.
7. The 3.5 mm jack entry is so enjoyable. I always struggled with charging and listening to the headphones at the same time. It was impossible on my previous phones without some big, ugly adapter.
8. Finally we have a standardized port for sync/charge. Unfortunately i can't find a microUSB cable anywhere. The only way to get them is to order them online.
Software:
1. HTC Sense is very well done. Having a 1GHz processor it moves along panels and menus very fast. When i took my TP2 in hand after playing with the HD2 i felt like trowing it away. Once you played with the HD2 you never go back.
2. HTC skinned most of the settings of WM which is a good thing and a bad thing. In some cases the skinned settings don't show every little option in that category so its annoying, but i managed to get a shortcut for the windows mobile settings in my start menu.
3. The facebook integration doesn't let me choose what i want to update for my contacts. On my TP2 i would get asked if i want to get the contact's photo and his birthday. Now it doesn't ask anything and if the contact doesn't have a facebook photo but it has an outlook photo (set by me) it deletes the photo. After getting back my contacts i stopped using the facebook integration. SOLVED
4. The twitter client is OK, but i expect an update from HTC in a future rom where lists are implemented. Otherwise its useless.
5. Doing pinch to zoom in Opera is a joy. Having a large screen, web browsing becomes a pleasure. Now i can say that i can always rely on my phone to do web browsing.
6. Google Maps and iGO 8 work fast and the GPS signal comes in about 10 seconds with the proper tweaks.
7. The FM Radio just doesn't work. I only get static and its not like i'm in the middle of a field. I'm in a 4 million people city.
8. The Audio Manager does a good job but there's a problem with the Audio Booster which doesn't stay on after the first song you play. There's a solution for that but its ugly. Once you start the audio booster don't press done, just leave it running by pressing the home button for example.
9. The camera takes very good pictures. I applied the super fine tweaks. I own a semi professional camera and i have some experience in that area and the pictures taken by the HD2 are pretty OK for a phone camera.
10. In regards to the SMS issue: i don't have it. The device already came with the GSM only selected as a band for sending text messages. The only downside is that i tried once to send an sms to 16 persons and i got around 5-6 undelivered messages. I know it has a limit but i applied the tweak to make the limit go to 50 but no result.
11. My Location works and doesn't work. It gets my location but when its time to get the weather it fails. It shows and error message that it cannot retrieve the weather. So i disabled it completely.
12. The unlock screen is useless. I always set my phone to turn off the display after 1 minute. Watching a movie resulted in a lock. I removed it and installed S2U2 which accepts exceptions and it works great on the HD2. It's like it was meant for this device.
13. HTC Album creates a rather large cache on the main storage resulting in a decrease in available MBs. That is not acceptable for me so someone from xda modified the exe file (changed the path of where the cache is stored) and i installed it and it works great so far. The cache is now in My Documents folder on the storage card.
14. I changed the icons in the start menu using the reSTART application and the iReflect icons found on xda. Now my start menu looks very clean and beautiful.
15. I can type really well on it. I just have to trust the keyboard. I'm not using XT9 cuz i don't have my language there but with the ABC mode i'm quite fast. Its not always perfect but that's to be expected anyhow. I make a lot more mistakes on my brother's iPhone than on the HD2 (and the iPhone keyboard is famous for its accuracy).
There is a downside to all of this: the battery life. It's a little disappointing. I feel like i use an iPhone now. I usually get a full day out of it with moderate use. I plan on buying a desktop cradle and a spare battery just in case.
I'm running the 1.48 version and judging by my experience so far i'm almost certain that there was a batch of phones that was bad, that's why some owners state problems with hardware or software.
If i missed something let me know, or if you have any questions fire away.
Very well written. There's one point I'd like to correct, though. You can set the contacts tab to show Outlook pics even with Facebook integration. Here's how:
1. Start editing the contact.
2. Tap on the contact picture icon on top right.
3. A list of available pics for the contact should come up. The second of which is your Outlook contact pic, if you have one saved. Tap it.
4. Voila
Now, can you please link the reSTART and ireflect icons? I'm curious and want to check them our. I did some searching, but the results returned are staggering.

PS: Thanks for the tip on the facebook integration. I'm now going through all my contacts and changing the photos.
Nice review, lorin.bute.
I have switched back to this device after 4 months iphone 3Gs usage. This device is the best I have ever used in the past 7 years. The screen reacts and the softwares run just as fast as iphone 3Gs but with rooms for my customization. Just looks forward to the upcoming WM6.5.3 to enhance this device, and most likely WM7 in 2010.
The battery life is indeed disappointing. Well HTC wanted it to be slimmer than the iphone.
A desktop cradle and a spare battery is a must i feel. We are all using a relatively new battery. Just imagine 6-12 months down, it may not even last a day. A cradle apart from showing off the phone also prevent from tripping the cable while charging.
Well, if a spare battery is a must for the HD2, then what do all the iPhone users do?
The iPhone has even worse battery life and you can't swap out the battery...

i use mobile chargers.
click it in the iphone and it starts charging. works perfectly.
Yes, I had one of those, too, for my iPhone 3G
That was more of a rhetorical question, but I can add that those chargers are less convenient to carry around than a second battery.

Like what my friends do. They charge whenever possible, i see their phones wired most of the time in office.

Fingernail and I

Receieved my Vega yeterday so I could join the Vegacomb party late. I've a wierd bug with the touchscreen. If I run my fingernail across it, it acts as a double touch. I can even zoom in/out with my finger nail, swiping up and down. This also seem to affect the keyboard, wherre I am getting double clicks. Do I have a faulty screen?
Other disappointments so far are lack of predictie text with the keyboard, and my battery life seems very poor. Does turning the unit to standby turn off all battery zapping apps, or do I have to acctually shut down/reboot eveytime?
Hope I can get these issues sorted as I really like the unit otherwise.
Cheers.
the Vega is kinda known for not having a 'state-of-art' touch-screen. U'll get used on hitting the screen harder. Furthermore, u can also try calibrating it, just in case ; )
keyboard u can get some nicer ones from the market, as a free u can get gingerbread keyboard I tried before, or if you're up to spend a few pounds u can give a try on some paid one, here is the free version of the one I use Slide it
regarding the standby, well... standby (on any device in the world) does uses some power, but depending on what u're running might use more battery (e-mail that keeps checking every 5min, weather apps that keeps checking every 20min, twitter that keeps checking every 3min, those kind of stuff)...

How stable/reliable is the S5 running CM12.1/13?

Hi all,
Currently looking for an upgrade from my Moto G and have a specific list of requirements (long-ish battery life, cheap-ish, ideally fast charging, ideally ANT+, ideally waterproof, accurate GPS for tracking runs) which the S5 seems to meet well. Only thing I dont think I could live with is TouchWiz (and the assosciated lag I would expect it would bring with it).
My question: how is CM running on these devices with regards stability and force closes etc. Can live with a small dip in camera quality and having never had a fingerprint scanner I wont miss it but really need a rock solid, stable device. Is there a better alternative out there (am also closely considering the Zuk - but not waterproof and possibly patchy GPS - and the Moto X Play - slightly more expensive and reports of lag)?
I'm currently running CM13 on my KLTE, and it honestly seems fine.
Battery life is just under 4hrs SOT.
It charges pretty fast IMO (About an hour and a little bit with a constant 1800mA @ 4.5V)
Though was I've read in a quick Google search is that CM doesn't support ANT+ ever since the s4 branch.
Never had issues when the phone's been blessed with water, Its a pretty tight seal all around.
GPS is accurate. I usually get a fix within the first ten seconds. Mind you I use GPS Status to download AGPS info to help.
I rarely get force closes but there are the occasional soft reboots with the phone, which seems to put it in a boot-loop when it does. But that could be my configuration of Xposed and other modifications that do that.
i dont like the in-use battery life at all, deep sleep life is insanely improved on CM13 i assume due to doze, you can buy third party extra large batteries that are also a replacement for the back cover
cm-12.1-20151226-NIGHTLY-klte = quite stable, think i had only a couple minor bugs, no crashes, my baseband is a little old, i tried some gps app from fdroid during a walk & it was as if the calibration kept changing... i passed the same spot more than once, it would be too far north one time then too far southeast another time & so on, but maybe it was storing literal data points (some other apps, especially map apps i would assume they might auto align themselves to roads), crashed the camera when using opencamera too fast or switching between it & stock camera, opencamera couldnt do 60 or 120fps videos even though the option was set
cm-13.0-20160116-NIGHTLY-klte = turning flashlight off kills camera (& the flashlight tile) until reboot, i was going through menus fast or something, the status bar crashed & then soft reboot was frozen on the loading face icon, i was hoping snapdragoncamera was enabled cuz i see it in changelogs, but i still see stock camera unfortunately...
charging is quite fast, from 0 to ~80% at least (this is normal for about every device anyway)
i havent tried any other versions yet, i dont have gapps, only been web browsing in lightning browser (from fdroid), trying kernel adiutor, notepad, little bit of camera, i dont have a SIM card yet, hope it works fine...
i believe i saw a modified TW rom that keeps the TW framework, but visually tries to be AOSP, the purpose of course is to be able to use the samsung camera & some of the other proprietary apps/features
My build is a KLTEusc smg900r4, with cm13, on first boot I had issues with the access points to the mobile network, but after I input one access point it found the rest on its own, only other issue is when sending long text messages it doesn't go through from some reason, overall very proud of it, much better than touchwiz

Kospet Hope Smartwatch - Got Good Specs, What is your Verdict?

Anyone with the Kospet Hope smartwatch? Seems like it has good specs and features, higher than Zeblaze, what is your verdict? But I think I will go with the Kospet Hope Lite, https://www.smartwatchspecifications.com/Device/kospet-hope-lite-4g-smartwatch-phone/

I like it a lot, but the problem with it is the same as with other smaller Chinese brands: they don't provide any source code to the public, so everything has to be reverse engineered - the Kospet Hope already has TWRP and root, but a custom FW with all the goodies without the useless "Fitness" app (it would be nice, but the one on the watch is pure crap) and other bloatware would be AMAZING!
My advice is: the Kospet Hope 4G 3/32 is a great watch, but don't buy the Lite version if you haven't already ordered it. If you have, then you will enjoy that too! )

Have had the Lite for 3 days and am quite disappointed. Great hardware, but useless firmware/OS, and there is no getting around it, that I have found...
The GPS is not working with the fitness app, so forget about tracing a map or route or whatever. Google Maps is useless, under this resolution.
You can check your pulse with the built in app, which is useless, no history or syncing to the phone. Even if it did, the accuracy is terrible. I had HIGHER pulse sitting in my car than during running.
Yes, you can download any app from the store, but remember the screen is 320x320... Do you have any idea how Facebook looks on 320x320?? It's half VGA!! Imagine that your phone screen is a quarter the size of you KEYBOARD. Now try to run the phone on that small size, that how an Android phone works and looks like...
Even the watch faces are terrible, and I still haven't found a way to add any.
It is a beautiful watch, quite bulky (too much), but it is mostly useless. If someone does a Wear Os ROM for it, it might be a killer watch, but definitely not with this firmware/OS.
Thinking of selling it and getting an Amazfit.
This seems like the same story for all these Chinese no brand watches: good hardware, garbage software !
Why don't they just open the whole thing up as open source and within a year you'd probably have a better platform than Android Wear. I guess they don't do this because then they wouldn't be able to hide all of the government mandated spyware to pillage your personal info.
Hope is the real deal.. Just wish the software was more customizable.

Hi all,
I just got mine last week.
The good:
Great battery life
Full android means u can install anything .. if you choose to add anything.
Great specs and everything works like advertised.
All features work with no issues whatsoever.
Can put a sim card in it and make it work like a full phone.
Can import contacts from google and whatapp and so on.
Camera is great in lighted areas .. better than I expected but it is limited by watch size.
Screen is gorgeous and you get access to unlimited watch faces from google.
Bluetooth integration with phone and wireless and 4G work perfectly.
Waking screen on hand raise works great.
Ambient watch is perfect.
Screen and quality of the watch is top notch.
Charges back to full in an hour.
The wish list:
Better software that would allow you to customize your menus and move things around.
Ability to map the button presses so I can add google assistant to a button
Not so good:
Very hard to read the tiny letters of any messages you get in the menus
In bright sunlight it is hard to see the screen and the ambient clock
The charging cable connection can be weak and disconnect if in a shaking backpack.
Honestly, for the low price you pay and the battery life and quality you get, it is great and as it gets with smart watches.
Cheers.

there is no need to map a button to get google assistant, you just go to settings, languages & input, virtual keyboard, select google voice typing, and then voice match, enable "ok google" any time and unlock with voice match and you'll be able to activate google assistant on any screen, that do not awake the watch unless you hit one button, but once you do just say "ok/hey google" working on my kopet Optimus pro

For those who are interested: I got one
All firmware, hacking, tweaking and changing here on my page: https://sites.google.com/site/tweakradje/android/kospet-hope-lite
I bought the Kospet Optimus Pro and had problems with it after a day of use. The touch screen would go crazy sometime. Couldn't do anything with it. Did a few full reset, but eventually the problem came back. Think it was my last time buying a Chinese watch. In principle, the hardware specs is good. But, the software is garbage. And with me, the touch screen too. Upon searching in YouTube, I saw a person with the same problem. So, I would stay away from it. But of course, my was probably defective. Even so, I'll stick with a name brand that provide warranty within my country.
My findings after a month. No big issues.
firmware 03052019
Problems:
- wrist raise gesture doesn't always work
- some notifications disappear (like with OsmAnd/maps/vending and existing route)
- sort apps (by name) in launcher
- google voice search long press back-button?
- more accurate heart rate monitor
- glass in not gorilla glass, scratches
- screen consumes too much power
Whish:
- tap watch face actions like weather (on weather area on watchface) etc...
- round to square user zoom factor
- screen refresh rate to 30 Hz or less?
- set screen color intensity
- long press app in launcher > properties and uninstall
- extra launcher app overview like 3x3
- always on time digital/analog user selectable
Cheers
Issues on Kospet Hope
Hello
Cons:
1. the 400x400 resolution of display give us an impredictable screen which is hard to tap at the corner (the third-party applications like any browser give a very little interface who it is inoperable without apk who could changing the resolution of the screen).
2. the autonomy of battery is a big fault : with 2 hour of browsing in 4G connection, 7 hours of bluetooth connection with my Note 4 without screen on, half of the intensity of the screen all the time and 2 hours of working in settings tab, without 4G connection of mobile data it means 11 hours of a real life of battery! A big caca!
3. the keyboard is have many problems to tap at the edge so it very hard to write something in this tiny layout so facebook and Messenger are not suitable for these reasons;
4.Sometime the gesture"raise hand to turn on the screen" not works!
5. the wiiwatch2 it is big caca!
6. the Wach Droid Phone and assistant lose, ramdomly, the link with smartwatch (bluetooth connection)
7.My old smartwatch ZGPax S8 could make a decent browsing at only 240x240 pixels resolution, with translucent keyboard apllication "Flit Keyboard". The Kospet Hope it is in backyard, 10 years ago!
8. In charging mode with bluetooth on or wi-fi turning on, it is very hot
9. very thick! not for women!
10. a very unusefull interface of android 7.1.1
11. Iwill not buy another one !
Pro:
1.Speed.
2. Display Amoled
3. Sound
4.Good construction
5.Faces of watch
6.good camera pictures (5 MPx real, not interpolatwd by software) but worst video recording

The Kospet Hope 4G has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage space
