Hey guys...just bought my TD2 today...for how long should I charge the phone before first use...the shopkeeper asked to charge first time for approx 10 hrs....Is it correct!!
Charge until the light becomes green, that's all.
Anyway, when a battery becomes fully charged, further charging is prevented by the internal charge controller.

Not applicable to Lithium type batteries, there is no requirement to fully charge for any amount of time.
When the green light is on it is charged but feel free to use it before that, the batteries normally have a good level of charge out of the box.

My HD is arriving on Wednesday and I was wondering how long should the battery be charged for in its first charge? It might say in the manual but I don't have the phone yet.
Thanks
When modern Li Ion batteries are being charged and reach a certain voltage (above which the battery could start to destroy itself), the charger shuts off. There is no point in leaving it "on charge" after this time as it simply will not be doing anything; these batteries cannot be charged any more. Roughly 120 minutes should do it - or when the LED turns from amber to green (mine took just under two hours the first time). Also, the life of the battery will be prolonged if you make a habit of recharging it before it gets to its last breath, rather than waiting for it to shut itself down.
There is a great article on www.batteryuniversity.com which discusses battery technology, if you feel so inclined (see, especially, part two).
Have fun...

The manual say 3 hours. But mine was charged in less than 1 hour.. And the battery is still at more than 50% from yesterday, same hour... Watching Video (30 min) listening music (60 min) and playing a lot ;-)
it's always important to fully charge when you charge, not just the first charge. this will prolong battery life.
i just left mine in the charger for a couple of hours can't remember how much exactly but indeed after a certain point it shuts down charging for at least half an hour until the battery is drained again... you can easily tell... no more charging symbol in the top right on the screen and the led indicator is steady
Hi guys,
Can you suggest me any software which can control the overtime charge of battery in HTC hd2.. i mean auto OFF the battery charging after it is full or after a limited time as we desire.
As you know battery is a problem for such device and basically i have to charge everyday which i do at night but i afraid if i charge the batter overnight then it may damage to battery itself.
Thank you a lot.

Have you not noticed that the HD2 does this automatically?
When the charge light is orange, its means charging.
When charge light turns green, it means that it has stopped charging, but is drawing the power from the mains and not the battery.
Is that what you are enquiring about?
Thanks.
Modern batterys have a circuit that cuts the charge when its full, so it doesn't overcharge.
yeah, you cant overcharge your battery....read your user manual that came with your phone.........
thank you
Thank you all for your kind response
HI, I'm going to receive my phone this afternoon..just confirmed by DHL Malaysia.
can I know how many hours you guys charged your SGS2 for first time battery charge.
Is it necessary to charge 8 hours for first time use?
Please share your experiences
for my past phone , nexus 1 and nexus s, I charged 8 hours for first time use and 8 hours for my extended batteries as well..
from my understanding, you don't need a extra long first charge for Li-ion batteries, you only need to prevent overcharge/overdischarge which is taken care of by the battery protection circuits.
In other words, turn on and start using it like normal
Just plug it in, charge it. When it's full unplug it.
Took me 1h to charge it up from half. Battery came with half charge.
Thanks mates, I'm charging the phone now
until it's full, I will unplug..
Try to run it through a few full cycles when you first get it though...
do u mean it has to be drain out before next charging?
I think it's a good idea to go from 0 to 100 in the beginning. Not for the battery sake more for the phone to learn what max and min are.
Hello there I got a new battery.
What should I do with it?
Should I completely charge it and discharge it for a few times?
Or what??
Really need some advice.
Thanks in advance.
Just use it. No special treatment is required.
Or maybe a simple Google search...

Lithium Ion batteries don't build up a memory. You don't need to cycle it.
In fact, running it through several drain cycles will degrade the battery life in the long run, not improve it. They only last around 300 cycles.
So can I use it until around 20% and charge it back to 100?
or charging to 100 is not good for the battery?
(I will unplug it once it turn green)

It is recommended to fully charge it overnight for the first 3 times.
After that, overcharge and discharge below 10% is not recommended.

Ideally, it will last longest (in total charges, not single charge) if you keep it between 90 and 30.
However, charging to 100% isn't really a problem, so long as you don't leave it connected to the charger after it's hit 100% for extended periods of time. Draining it fully is bad, however. In reality 20-100 is most do-able whilst keeping the battery healthy the longest.
The manual advises to charge it for I think it was 12 hours on the first use, though I've never found there to be an advantage to that, as it charges from 0 to 100 in 90 minutes. So 2-3 hours should be sufficient as well.
Just got my OP5 in hand, how long does it need to charge the phone for the very 1st time? As Dash charge can charge the phone to 100% in 30min, do I still need to keep the phone on charge for an extended period of time like b4? Cheers
Hi,
Dash charge can not charge the phone to 100% in 30min
In 30 min you can charge between 40% and 60% depending on what is running on your phone :

Thx. Havent tried it. So for the very first time, for previous phones I let it charge for a few hours b4 actually used them. I should do the same right? As the battery is with the same structure. Cheers

I set mine up then put it on charge, was on 44% and then was at 96 about 35 minutes later

Hey,
I don't know definitively but I don't think so. I think battery technology in this respect has moved a long way so you don't have to charge it to full before you first use it, nevermind charging it to full and then over charging for multiple hours.
In fact, phones these days cut off charging and then trickle charge when the battery is full to maintain charge but not try and charge an already full battery thus causing damage.
Bottom line is I would suggest you wait till it gets to 100% before using it but don't need to wait any longer after that.

With modern Lithium ION/POL batteries this is no longer a requirement. In fact the hardware will make it stop from overcharging or it could become a hazard. In fact, Li-ION batteries are best kept between 20% and 80% for longevity. if you plan to store Lithium batteries store them at around 50% charge. so your old phone keep it stored at around 50%. this is also how all laptops and phones are shipped these days. They are shipped with approximately 50% battery charge for any hazard and also for longevity should it have to be stored for a long period of time.
