Every time i go to type i can press one letter then the hero locks up. However when typing in passwords it will let me do that. I'm thinking there is a problem with the dictionary ?? any ideas???
Well turned off the predicton and i can type now. Looks like thw dictionary has messed up. Dunno how to reset it. I might reset the whole phone as it very buggy
To reset it totally:
Turn it off, hold the home and back key in and turn it on
or alternatively
menu > settings > security > factory reset.....
easier on the fingers!
Any ideas on the problem with the keypad input. Also i had a problem with the phone memory. At one point i had none spare after turning the prediction off all i then had over a 100mb free. ???

For some reason, every time I go to write an SMS it is defaulted to be in CAPTIALS and I have to press the shift/cap button twice to get it back to lower case.
It's only just done this today and I can't remember changing anything. Does anyone know how I can change it back to the old setting of being in lower case as default.
Had the same problem once...
Did a soft-reset and everything was back to normal.
OK, will give it a go - thanks
Yeah mine did this, stopped it after i updated the rom which would reboot it to high heaven.
not seen it happen again yet.
I just had this problem.
i had been using the soft keypad and had left the CAPS button on. Soon as I changed it the hard keypad worked properly again

That could have been the problem actually, I remember using the CAPS on the soft pad this morning.
Either way, the soft reset has seemed to have fixed it so it's all good
wtf?! They all worked fine an hour ago (power, camera, talk, softkeys, messages...) and now they don't. It isn't a hardware issue because when it goes into standby, I can press the power button to bring it out of standby. Now though, I can't open anything using their respective keys and can't power it off. Anyone have any issues like this? I hadn't installed anything or even been using the phone from the time they worked to the time they stoped working.
Try opening settings -> buttons ->lock and click in "dont lock keys"
Had similar problems that now for some reason went away.

Unfortunately, I tried that and it didn't fix it. It's so odd that the Comm Manager button works when the phone is on and that the power button will work to turn it on or to wake it up. Are there places in the registry that control what the buttons do? Maybe I need to reset this thing? I love this phone when it isn't locking or acting up.
So I reset the phone to it's factory settings. After I went through the calibration and setup, the keys still weren't working. Before I did the reset, I did notice the keyboard keys weren't working either . So after the reset, the buttons still weren't working. I kept just typing stuff in on the keyboard with Word open and it finally started working...all buttons are still working now, but I don't trust it much. Should I bring it in to Cingular to get a new one? I'm still within my 30 days
Yes. If you can get a new one do it. do it.
Okay, TyTN has developed this very annoying feature turning off the backlight after 10 seconds. If I change the settings to anything else and put the phone to sleep and wake it up, the setting is back to 10 secs. If I uncheck the [ ] Turn off the backlight thingie, that setting will remain even when cycling the sleep/stand by mode.
I've tried to make the adjustment directly from registry, but it's still the same.
Last time this happened, hard reset helped, but I'm not quite ready to do that yet. Any other ideas about what to try?
This worked for me:
a.) Delete the following key entirely - HKCU/ControlPanel/Backlight/LockLevel
Thank you, that hit the spot =).

That key does not exist in all cases - it does not exist on mine. If you do not have it then your problem is elsewhere.
I assume you make the backlight changes the normal way, but after a soft reset they are gone again. Do not sodt reset immediately after making the changes, but long press the on off key until a pop up appears warning that unsaved data will be lost. Tap on yes. Restart with a long press on the on/off button. This procedure unlike an immediate soft reset ensures data is written back to the registry before closing down.

Hi guys,
I'm very new to pda's/smartphones 'n stuff, so be gentle.
I have a Touch Dual since few days, and the one thing that irritates me is the keyboard backlight. When typing an sms the lights go off just after 8 seconds or so... That's too fast for me, I still have to get used to having a qwerty keypad on my phone.
to be clear: I don't mean the backlight on the display itself, buy the light beneath the keypad when open.
Is there a registry setting, or a tweak/application that could correct this for me?
Thnx in advance,
Lukas
same problem here...
You could try the most excellent KaiserTweak, I've found most of its tweaks to be compatible with my Nike, haven't tried the backlight though -> http://www.jongma.org/KaiserTweak/
yes try the kaiserTweak. it's under option Keyboard->backlight. The default value is 10 sec. you can up the time to more in the tweak.
Downloaded the tweak app, changed the keyboard setting and a bunch of other interesting settings (because I'm a curious idiot in case someone asks) and now the device kind of hangs on the password screen... I can't unlock anymore.
The device reacts to taps and both screen and keypad input. Also, if I type the wrong password I get the obvious error message. If I type the correct passcode, and tap 'unlock' then nothing happens and after a minute or so the * disappear and I can start over again..
Is this a known bug?
What do I do now? Hard reset? That will wipe out all my settings and files right?
Thnx
Lukas
please help... Hard reset did not help. Device is still unresponsive...
This are the numbers I get when the device is booting:
M 04
B 04
R 1.58.16.27
G 25.61.30.03H
D 1.31
just want to make sure you did your hard reset correctly. how did you do it exactly? the button by the battery after you remove the back cover?
I took this from the manual because from what you described. doesn't sound like you did it correctly. a hard reset should put it back to its factory setting.
Hard reset
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a system problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings -‑ the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile® software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the TALK and END buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the left side of your device.
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the TALK and END buttons until you see the following message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press ENTER to restore manufacturer defaults, or press any other button to cancel.
3. Release the TALK and END buttons, and then press ENTER on your device.
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
Hi Fatlove...
Indeed you're right. And I did read my manual. And I did it EXACTLY like stated in the manual.
This is what I posted in the General forum:
Ok,
This is going to be stupid, but I'll admit to it anyway...
I've read in the manual on how to perform a hard rest. It states to push the send and end buttons, keep the pushed in, and then press the soft reset button until a text appears on the screen. That text states to press "Enter" to continue, and any other key to cancel.
Well, the 'Enter' key to me is the 'enter' key on that qwerty keypad, not the shiny silver button between the Send and End buttons.
To the writer of the manual the enter key on the keypad does not exist.
So that's why a hard reset did not help. Because I did not perform one.
My bad. Anyways, my phone is ok again, sorry for the doublepost.
Grtz
Lukas
Anyways, thnx for the reply, and for the record: the keypad backlight still doesn't work after har reset and re-applying the keiser tweak. Still lit only 8 seconds or so. Does it matter that I copied the Keiser executable to my storage card? It doesn't have to be on the device itself now, does it?
Thnx again.
Lukas
Nope.. kaisertweak is not working for this property (Keyboard backlight)
Anyone
I tried several Registry settings but nothing worked so far.
Anyone else had succes?
Still no solution for this problem?
It's pretty annoying
I tried changing values in the registry as well, but nothing worked. So I'm also interested in a possible solution...
Damn, I hate that light turning off that quick. There must be a solution
I also have been trying a lot of registry settings without solutions
Anybody knows?
I tried this kaiser tweak on my dual and it had no effect. Had to remove it.
kaiser tweak had no effect on my dual either..
qwerty key board
hello i have the htc touch pro and my external keyboard light go's off in about 3 sec does anybody now how to get the time longer
I've the same problem, keyboard backlight stops after about 8 seconds
I tried some register settins and also with Advanced Configuration Tool (Julien Schapman), but no result.
Hope somebody can fix this
Odd Behavior T-mobile Wing
T-Mobile Wing
ROM 4.10.531.3 WWE
ExtROM 4.10.531.103
Bought this at a garage sale.
Behaves strangely.
Start with a hard reset.
Using the notes application,
I can draw on the screen or use the
keyboard.
I can save the note, repoen, edit it
etc. as it should.
If I power off the Wing and turn it back
on, I can no longer open a note for
editing. The touchpad acts as though
a control key has been pressed.
I can highlight multiple notes, just not
do anything with the selection.
There's a link in the notes options menu
"global input options". It works the first
time, but does nothing after power off cycle.
I can create a new note, but can't draw
on the screen. It just highlights
lines where the text would go on the
screen. I can type a note and save
it, but can't view or edit it.
Soft reset fixes it until the next power off.
It's interesting that the manual makes no mention
of ever opening or editing a note.
The windows key brings up the screen alignment
screen. The buttons menu says the key is
assigned to the start menu. If I reassign
the key and then reassign it back to start menu,
it works as desired until the next power off.
It's then back to alignment.
When I turn it off, it pops right back on.
After several power off presses, it finally
stays off.
I don't have or want cellular service.
I'm using the wifi successfully.
Seems to behave properly when surfing the web.
After deleting one of the customizations, forget
which, I can
copy files and run programs.
I'm experienced with WM5, but this is my first
WM6 device.
I've googled myself silly. I find references
to new ROM's but all the links are broken or
file no longer exists.
I've tried deleting the customized applications,
no help. I've interrupted a hard reset with a
soft reset to prevent installation of the customizations,
still no help.
This is such an obvious defect, it couldn't
have made it past first evaluation. Must be
something I'm doing, or it's busted.
Ideas on how/what to fix?
Thanks, mike
