I have a TD2 and over the last few days I have had no Internet access/data connection over HSDPA on T-Mobile in the UK. This includes weather tab updates/youtube app/Opera/Microsoft MyPhone etc. When using GPRS and WiFi there are no problems. I have enough signal so I am at a loss. I have also performed a hard reset to no avail.
Can anybody state whether they are able to connect to data via HSDPA on T-Mobile in the UK?
Many thanks
Tony
Working fine here and getting damn good speeds actually(260k/s). Try unticking 'use proxy server' in connection settings.
Working ok for me yesterday, uploaded photos to Facebook no probs. Though I continually get error dialogs when moving from a 3G to non-3G area. As I live in a non-3G area I am thinking of disabling it for now.

Is your problem just in one location? I've had days where 3G didn't work at all in a particular location, next day it was fixed. I believe t-mobile is rolling out a program of combined cell towers and equipment with 3 Network, so certain cells become unavailable for a while.
I've also had the problem where "H" shows with good signal strength, yet unable to get internet connectivity through the cell, due to a network problem.
To be frank, in the 2-3 months I've been on t-mobile I've seen a marked deterioration in service such as poor speeds and cells unwilling to handoff data connections. I think too many people have been signed up
I've actually left T-Mobile after being with them (one2one) for over 15years. 3G speeds really inferior to o2. Had friends o2 sim in my TD2 and got 500k, on T-Mobile 50k to 157k (If I'm lucky)

It's most likely that you are right with this info particularly paragraph 2. Hopefully things will improve
Many thanks for your and everyone else's replies

T-mobile is currently inergrating its 3G HSDPA network with 3s so speeds should be better by the end of the year..
they are predicting speeds of 4.5mbps by the end of the year.

Thanks for the news
Hoping it works well as I don't get much joy most of the time with the 3G service thus far.

The integration is not quite as much as you might expect. The plan was just to share masts, using separate t-mobile and 3 antennas, and probably linking into a shared feed to their respective routing centres, or whatever they're called.
It seems to be more "infrastructure sharing" rather than merging. Obviously, if there is a 3 mast in what is now a poor t-mobile reception area you would get a better signal with a new t-mobile antenna on that mast.
But I wouldn't hold your breath, you've probably heard the news in the last day or so that t-mobile will shortly be merged with orange
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8243226.stm, so I really can't see the t-mobile - 3 collaboration going much further than what's been done already.
I noted from details of this new merger: "Integrating the businesses would cost between £600m and £800m, the firms said. This bill would include decommissioning mobile phone masts"
So, that's the same number of users and fewer masts. Hmm...

260kbs! that is shockingly slow for hspda
Slow ? Thats over 2 megabit/s - some people done even get that on their landline broadband. Of course it go faster but is going to be limited at the network end. Two meg is more than enough for me out and about though!

You must be living right by a mast in a quiet area
Come to London and sample 50 - 100kbps. Sometimes I can barely stream a 32kbps internet radio feed.

Guys
I am trying to setup my new TyTN to use Cingular 3G/UMTS .. but for some reason .. it doesnt work .. which is a really breaking my heart because as per the 3G coverage map from Cingular my area (Dulles airport/Reston) has 3G coverage.
The details/settings are:
Device: Stock TyTN, HERM200, HT636 series
SIM: around 2 years old, 64K SIM (no 3G indications on it though)
ROMs: Original HTC ROM (07/22), 1.16 RadioROM (Updated)
Bands: Auto, Auto
After soft-resetting with these settings, when the device comes back up, it shows the fabled "U", but then immediately the signal drops to zero and I am not able use voice or data.
TyTN only works when I set it to GSM, GSM (1900+850) + UMTS(1900+850) band settings, which gets me on the GMS network and gives me Edge speeds only (~130-140K). The signal strength is pretty good (3 to 4 bars)
Any thoughts regarding what might be going?
Thanks in advance for the help!!
I thought that you needed a 3g sim card? I could be wrong but i thought i seen that somewhere.
If you do get it working I would love to know how it works. Im doing alot of reading on the Herms as it will be the wifes Christmas present.
My TyTN to worked just fine during a recent trip in your exact area. Try this:
Drive to Dulles Airport itself and check if you get 3G inside. 3G coverage was excellent there but got spotty for me a mere 5 miles away at the Dulles Airport Hilton.
If you don't get coverage inside the Airport, go to a Cingular store and request a 3G SIM upgrade. They say "3G" right on the back.
:O I thought I had a 3G sim, but I have a regular 64k sim! I now have to go to my local store to pick one up!
Hey guys....I live in Northern VA and just got a TyTn last week. I setup my GPRS connection using the Cingular settings and left the bands on Auto. I get excellent 3G reception (before and after 1.20 radio upgrade). You probably need to go get a 3G sim card I guess. I thought my card wasn't 3G but when I checked closely it indeed was. Just out of curiousity I called my local corp store and they told me you can just go in and they'll give you a new card.
Right, there's not supposed to be a charge but my local Cingular store fleeced me for $20...
Had I known then what I know now I'd have questioned it...
What do you know now? I don't wanna pay $20 for that! lol
That Cingular does these for free. I'd ask "ummm... how come you charge $20 for something your company authorizes you to do for n/c?"
Well it was the SIM card!! The guys at the store charged me 25$ for a new SIM ...
but ITSSSSSSSS WORKINGGGGGGGGGGG now ... WHOHhhhhhhhhhohhhhhhh
getting over 900kbps on my TyTN !!! Thanks Sleuth!! YOU ROCK!!!!......
jeez.... those fleecing bast!rds.... must be lining their own pockets with it too....

yeah ... looks like the new one that I got...
What does the 3G card do for you? I get really good data speeds using a 2G SIM, and I am curious why I would need to update...
Would it happen to help with the problem I've been having transitioning between GSM and UTMS? Possibly? Please?
It certainly can't hurt to try. My Cingular rep told me that I wouldn't even be able to get a UMTS signal on Cingular's network without one. In Gravejoker's case this appears to be a case in point.
There's NEW Cingular 3G sims out now! With their firey 3G ball and all. Also apparently adds support for Video Calling, once enabled

No, I definately get UTMS on a 2G SIM. 700 - 900 kbps, to give you an idea of my data speeds. I also like the fact that I continue to receive emails when talking on the phone. I just wish the battery life was better when using UTMS; I often get 6 - 8 hours before it starts complaining about low battery. (Good thing I have a car charger and carry a sync cable in my notebook case!)

Sleuth -
I have an old Cingular 8125 64K SIM card and consistently get 700+ Kbits per sec on U in the Washington DC Area. Never had a problem with U throttling down to G very frequently.
My Dopod 838Pro is configured for cell GPRS,3G. Aren't these speeds (from dslreports.com mobile speed test) typical of 3G?
Will I notice a big difference swapping in a "3G" SIM?
I'll try this out tomorrow and report the results.
Just look at your SIM card, if you have the 3Gc on the back of it, it's a 3G sim. The front says Cingular 64k SIM; which is why I thought I had an older one. Their newer SIMs actually have 3G on the front and all all blue . Less confusion that way I think.
does it have hspda?

Yes. Quote from the spec sheet:
HSDPA/WCDMA: Europe: 2100 MHz / US:1700/2100 MHz
Up to 7.2 Mbps down-link (HSDPA) and 2 Mbps up-link (HSUPA) speeds Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (Band frequency, HSUPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.)

Actual up/down thoroughput is more limited at this point by T-Mo's 3G buildout and network load than the hardware on the G1 at the moment.
Is HSDPA enabled as default? I've only been reaching speeds of 300-400Kbits/s.
It doesn't have to be enabled, it comes under the generic '3g' option.
It depends on whether your local tower is HSPDA enabled. Most are these days in cities, but there's the odd one that doesn't handle it... and if you get out into the countryside you may find there's no 3G at all.
How are you measuring it? The browser rendering speed is limited by the CPU for example, so it isn't significantly faster on Wifi than it is on 3G (you could tether & use a laptop to mitigate this).
Even the speed test programs aren't great, as they test against US servers which means they're measuring the speed of the link between here and their servers in the US rather than the phone speed.. Xtreme Labs Speedtest for example gives a reading of 247Kbps on a 15Mbps link over wireless, and 133Kbps on 3G (My dongle can pull 6Mbps off the same cell).
I've seen a solid 788/113k from my 3G, in Central CA, via XL Speed Test. Much better than the 300k I used to get on my Hermes (Edge only).
I wat to see how the network fairs in SF/LA on my next trip.

There's a way to tell without a speed test. Use anycut or bettercut program and create a shortcut to phone info. It should say "network: UMTS". HSDPA isn't active yet. It will have a big "H" by the signal bars when it's turned on like any other HTC phone. Phone info is a great way to change your preferred networks over such as "WCDMA only", "GSM only",or "WCDMA preferred". Humm... maybe I'm wrong this speed seems really fast for regular old UMTS. I checked my HSDPA CQI Status using the fieldtest shortcut and had some activity. What do you guys think? Could google be foolish enough not to include a "H" icon for HSDPA when all other HTC phones do?

UMTS maxes out at at 384kbps, and your speed test clearly shows faster speeds than this, so you are definitely in HSDPA territory.
Regards,
Dave
I've never seen a "H" appear in the top and believe that it doesn't have one. It is just included under the "3G" symbol and anything slower than that I get a "G".
Getting about 900k in York, UK.
Yeah, I thought UMTS maxed out at 400 kbit per sec also. That's crazy about the "3G" icon not changing into an "H" icon. It's so un-HTC like... on well. Guess it was a WM thing. Weird though, "G" will change into "E" and then into "3G" but that's it?! Oh well, I guess I'm a little too hung up on this, lol. I'll leave it alone now.
Something in the back of my mind wants to say that WCDMA and HSPDA are similar and sometimes interchangable. And because of terminology issues 3G is now used instead to signal WCDMA/HSPDA

Actually depends on the 3G release the service provider is using... for instance R99 would max out as 384 yes, but R4 which introduces HSDPA can max out at 14.4Mbps down and R5 which introduces HSUPA can max out at 2Mbps UP.

Yes, we know! The point is that "standard UMTS" (for want of a better phrase), as opposed to "UMTS with HSDPA", maxes out at 384kbps. This nomenclature is based solely on the observation that many phones represent a 384K 3G connection with a "U" or "3G" and HSDPA with an "H".
Regards,
Dave
The only icons for signals are G, E, and 3G. This seems like a OS issue as it's not included in the framework-res.apk.
Says H
But isn't HSDPA considered 3.5G?
Well since I see this thread here. I know in VA on my HD2 after i put energy rom on it, I DO get a H from T-Mobile. I know they have it here but not rolled it out officially on their phones unless you have your phone modded to access it.
My G1 however is only stuck on 3G so makes me think G1 cant do H? Or does it need a custom rom for it to be enabled? Anyone know?
Why my G1 doesn't switch to HSDPA ??
Sorry to get out this old thread, but I didn't find any informations about my problem ...
My phone : G1 (from Orange, France) rooted with Cyanogen Mod 6.0.0 Stable and radio : 2.22.23.02.
I'm sure to be in an HSDPA zone because when I put my sim in a Samsung Spica (stock rom), it switches to HSDPA.
I didn't manage to make my G1 to switch to HSDPA. Every time I check in "settings/state", it's always in UMTS mode (signal intensity : -63dB)
More : I tried to downgrade to the previous radio : 2.22.19.26I. No more success.
I try to modify the build.prop without any improvements too.
Note : For each test, I always checked the state of the connection in settings, and make speed test with XtremLabs Speedtest. Nevers get download upper than 357Kbites/s ...
Hope somebody have some advices or explanation ...
Thanks for your help !
I tethered my desktop machine to my G1 and then ran the mobilespeedtest website- I was hitting ridiculous numbers that were stupid unbelievable! I blew away the highest rating on their chart be several multiples. I think there was something funny going on with the test since I would get better results with larger downloads. I could be off by a factor of 10, but I think my download speed was in the ballpark of 14,000 kbps. It seemed ridiculous, so I didn't think it was real. I can hit 2000-3000 kbps sometimes with just my phone on mobilespeedtest.com
I was the Chicago when I tested it and hit those ridiculous speeds. I also tested it in Miami, which has the HPSA+ upgrade and it seemed faster in Chicago, but I wasn't able to test it tethered with my desktop machine.
I know these numbers seem off the charts and there might be something that was throwing them off.
EDIT: I checked the results - 7,143 kbps and 26,230 kbps. If my math is correct, that's almost 200MB/min! Again, I think there is something wrong with the test, but the 7K number might be reasonable?

Hey guys, first timer here. Having a bit of issues with H+ / 2G and 4.4.2 battery drain.
I know that 4.4.2 has a battery drain bug that will be addressed with the launch of 4.4.3 and so I'll have to just keep waiting until it reaches my phone. However, I'm using the LIME network here in Jamaica and I'm unable to get 2G. This being the case, my phone stays on H+ while I'm on the road and this kills my battery very rapidly. What I usually do with my note 2 was to keep it on 2G until I needed to browse and that would allow my battery to last for up to about 16 hours.
When I select GSM only, I don't get any data whatsoever. When I check with my provider, they claim that the 2G band on my phone probably isn't compatible with theirs. I find this strange, because this note 3 is an international version. Are there any tricks, hacks or anything that anyone can give me to get 2G on demand and save some battery?
Ps. I normally use 'tellinfo' on the note 2, but it apparently isn't compatible with the N9005. Any help'd be greatly appreciated.

N9005 that s compatible with urs.
then flash that modem.zip Or flash whole rom of another region

There is a fix for this problem but u need to tack your mobile to Mobile service shop who has a TOOL SPT Box, look below link.

Sounds promising. I'll get on it Monday morning and post back here with the results. This should work for the 2G issue, but what do I need to do about the changing imei? I'd much rather get the phone back on the original
Additionally, I hear mention from a couple of persons that they ended up taking their phones to repair shops and had them do it. Is it that special hardware has to be used along with the spt software; or can I just connect up to my laptop with the software and do it myself?
Anyone else noticing an issue where you lose LTE in an overwhelmingly LTE area and it sticks on 3G? I have to use airplane mode to bump the radio back to 4G. This has been happening ever since I've had the phone. I'm curious if its just my area or if others are experiencing the same problem and if they've been able to fix it, what did you do? I have my MSL and I haven't taken the update so I am still able to edit my APN settings.

I have the same issue. The only thing that helps me is when i use it as hot spot is I mount it on my satellite receiver (pointing to signal direction). with a better signal it doesn't switch. I noticed with about 20% strength jump to 3G but my 3G is weaker and slower...
I have not experienced that problem.

Mine really prefers LTE and rarely see it on 3G. If it does it's fairly quick to go back. I actually think it's too touchy it will hang on to a crap band 41 signal rather than a good 25 or 26 signal. A lot is of course going to depend on your area but I would try a radio reset.
Only time mine sticks is if im updating something or using data it wont switch back unless i move to another location outside of 3g or after the download

Another data problem

Anyone else noticing an issue where you lose LTE in an overwhelmingly LTE area and it sticks on 3G? I have to use airplane mode to bump the radio back to 4G. This has been happening ever since I've had the phone. I'm curious if its just my area or if others are experiencing the same problem and if they've been able to fix it, what did you do? I have my MSL and I haven't taken the update so I am still able to edit my APN settings.

During this past week I lost all data connectivity. I was in a strong signal area where I have never seen a problem before. The only thing that looked wrong was there was no strength of signal indicator. My data signal has been set on automatic since I've had the phone. I changed it to LTE CMDA, the phone reset, and the problem disappeared.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I had a problem over the weekend. I was in an area with no Sprint signal at all, and when I got back home realized my phone hadn't reconnected to Spring. I ended up having to reboot, then I got several messages and emails that had been pending.

I was going to suggest this action. Set your network type from automatic to lte/cdma. Then reboot. You may also want to run a profile and prl update. Last ditch you may want to run the HFA again. Usually just changing the network type will suffice.

Hey guys,
As this is a new release, I am keeping an eye out for tests of the stability and reliability of 4G LTE connections (the reception) and also the same for connecting over ac WIFI. Can someone please post some tests/videos/results?
Second. can someone also take a picture confirming ALL 4G LTE FDD bands supported. GSMArena and PDAdb.net both state this supports Bankd 29 700Mhz. is this correct?
Thanks

I have the CN edition rather than the global so I wouldn't expect to have Band 29 so I can't help you there.
In terms of general stability and signal quality with LTE connections.
They're very good.
I'm not sure what kind of test/video or result you'd want to see as it seems like there are always too many variables to get consistent test results, I can quite happily get 70mbps down on LTE using band 3.
As for WiFi - I'm hoping this is a ROM issue more than anything else, I'm unable to set my locale so I don't which nations wifi regulations I'm following (I'm using mi-globe.com as there isn't currently a global release rom).
I max out with a link speed of 433mbps on 5GHz (desktop achieves 1300mbps) and can't achieve more than a stated link of higher than 150mbps on 2.4GHz (desktop achieves 600mbps)
although the range is very good, and the eventual handoff to LTE is very quick too.
Is there something specific you're looking for I can help with?

Thanks for that. Yes, I think there is. Maybe see if you can set LTE only, or LTE/3G (etc)...do you get full reception at work, or in your home? Maybe just monitor it's strength without moving the phone from a typical "full strength location" and see if it changes. You can also run other apps that will utilise more of the CPU and RAM 9not necessarily internet-demanding apps) to see if they are a factor, in any way, on the radio strength.
I am mostly interested in the global version, what ROM it is (hoping different rather than just the CN with extra languages). As it's important to see what bands are supported, usually mentioned on the package... I also need to see the functionality of the dual sim and how the 2 interact when a data connection is active and a call comes in on the other SIM, etc. Screenshots confirming the SIM's connection sin the upper right status bar would also be benefical.
Thanks

Set to LTE only I get full signal at home and I haven't noticed anywhere in the city I don't have 4G, (at least while above ground).
It's not easy to make too much of a dent with that amount of RAM but CPU increased utilisation has no affect. I tend to keep my signal details as numerical anyway, that changed today when I flashed a statusbar mod changing my clock position so it's not in my screenshots.
You won't be seeing a difference in the ROM with global version, there isn't any reason to think they're releasing a separate ROM for the global version. The ROM that's out now is for all versions, I've taken it apart and the support in the current ROM is there for all the bands. I haven't worked out where they're limiting the bands but I've had a tinker. Changes to NVRAM values are lost on reboot and I haven't got any real reason to play other than curiosity.
If they release the phone internationally that would be when they release a global ROM; the differences there are localisations, removal of Chinese local apps (baidu, etc) and inclusion of google apps instead but nothing much more substantial than that. Was there something in particular you were hoping for?
No problems running data on one sim and receiving a call on the other, I tried this a few times downloading on LTE and calling myself via Skype (to my number not Skype -> i.e not local cell or data call). 10 out of 10 times there was no problem receiving the call and no noticeable impact on data speeds at the time.
Not sure how I show you with screenshots that one sim is active for data while another is active for voice, there's no indication when a sim is being used besides for data but I've taken some running an LTE network scanner. It'll only show networks on the band I'm currently active on (no idea why). Searching for available networks to join I can see LTE networks that use must band 7 (I assume, since that carrier has bands 7 & 20 - and well I shouldn't pick up band 20)
Hopefully you can gleam something useful from some of these screenshots, these were taking live as it was running. Since it's just network scanning here's no actual data flow hence why you see there's no data activity in the statusbar.

@StoneTrapper How do you find and rate the UI?
I've heard there's a few who don't like it and want to switch phones because of it.
I can see 4g/3g from your screens, so I wouldn't think using 4g and taking a call over3g frequency would be an issue given the CPU in this. THe lack of Band 28 (or many other bands for that matter) is a bit concerning

I'm used to MIUI, it's not my first xiaomi phone. I don't mind it, it's not ideal but there's nothing really unlikable about it.
People will always have their own preferences with roms, sooner or later xiaomi usually release the source code and the custom roms come flooding.
Yeah one of the networks I'm with only offer 3g, otherwise it supports dual LTE. If you want additional bands they offer a global edition that supports:
B1, B2, B3,B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13,B17, B18, B19, B20, B25,B26, B28, B29, B30
TD-LTE: B38, B39, B40, B41
I don't need the additional bands and the CN edition is already available to I went ahead and got that.
