I've searched all the 3 Android devices forum's and came up empty handed, so please let me know if a topic like this one already exists.
I've seen lots of people complaining the ROM they just installed didn't have data connection active, most of them don't realize they can/have to edit the APN list manually to have a data connection.
As some probably know, these APNs are all defined in a file called apns-conf.xml inside the /system/etc/ folder in your phone. The file can have all the APNs we want and I thought it would be useful to have a "mostly complete" list of the APNs from the cell phone companies all over the world to be included in the ROMs cooked around the XDA forums, this would make life easier for everyone who installs a new ROM.
With that in mind I started compiling an apns-conf.xml file. The file is based on CyanogenMOD's apns-conf.xml file (which seemed very complete to me) and then I added some other APNs I found on other ROM's apns-conf.xml.
The resulting file can be viewed and edited (using Google Docs) in the following link:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AZNbAmKkmakoZGZxZHNwMnpfMjJkaHg3ejN3eg&hl=en
What I'm proposing is that everyone interested checks out the file and corrects or adds their operator's/country's APN lists. That way we can incrementally build a "complete" APN list with the community effort.
Good idea. Wist that ROM creators would use this list.
Bump for visibility!
I find it weird that only one person found this idea interesting and helped out. Thanks btw woo456

That website is probably created after running the apns-conf.xml file through a XML parser, and I'm pretty sure it is using the apns-conf.xml file from this thread. But it's not the same thing, the apns-conf.xml file is for use with ROMs or to push into the device, that website shows the file in a readable format making it easy to add manually to the phone.
@Roy_Drage: It's not hard to add to the file, but I'll add that one.

Indeed it is. I whipped that page up to make a slightly more human-readable APN list than a raw XML file. And yep, it uses your list.
I proposed a fix for SFR APN. Here in France we can get different APN depending if we bought the "Full Internet" option or not. With "Full Internet", we use a different APN "sl2sfr" which don't use a proxy. Without this option we have to use "wapsfr" APN which is filtered.
Good to see some people interested in this

i have a uk vodafone contract and backed up my details i noticed your vodafone contract apn said apn="wap.vodafone.co.uk" but should actually be apn="wap.vodafone.co.ukapndroid" so i have edited it accordingly , great idea by the way always scared i lose that bit of paper
Thanks for posting this. I have a Rogers Magic on AT&T and only use apn: wap.cingular and everything seems to work. Anyone know why the following is necessary?

pass: CINGULAR1
mmsc: http://mmsc.cingular.com
mmsproxy: wireless.cingular.com
mmsport: 80
mcc: 310
mnc: 410

The apn field you edited was correct. The "apndroid" you had at the end of yours was put there by an app you used called APNdroid. It is used to disable/enable data connection on the phone, it works by changing the APN field by adding "apndroid" at the end, making the phone unable to connect.
Added some apns for the Swedish operators. Hope its correct.

yeh i ran into a similar problem with the APN, found this link- its rather long but it has quite a few apns, just CTRL+F3 and find your APN.
hope it helps

wow this is really interesting. bumping to hopefully gain more ground on it
This is probably a stupid question but the there server area when it indicates "*" does this mean you are suppose to put in the asterisk there?
Sorry and thanks for the help!

Some APNs require a specific value for the server, there are others that have asterisks. My operator, for example, uses asterisk. But to answer your question, if the Server field has an asterisk then yes, you have to put an asterisk in the server field when entering the APN data on the phone.
I edited the swedish tele2 APN.¨
I dont know if it makes any diffrence but the ip i have working in my phone had .030 at the end, this file had .30 maybe doesnt mather. Anyway, I also squeezed MMS and Internet settings togheter as there is no need for two APN for that.
Hope that is ok.

how can i block all data except MMS on android. my gf has a g1 in germany and doesnt have data plan but would like to be able to send/recieve mms but want to block anything else from using data like browser, maps, gmail etc....apndroid doesnt allow mms if everything else is blocked. any suggestions? or ways to get apndroid to work. maybe settings need to be messed around with
Well guys, I just thought I would give some input here…
I have the G1 without the data plan, and everything works fine with no problems.
The only thing I did have a problem with is MMS, but I got around it by going with the settings I used on my old unlocked HTC 8125:
Menu > Setting > Wireless controls > Mobile networks > Access point names
Once you get in there, scroll down until you see T-Mobile US and input the following settings:
Name = T-Mobile US
APN = wap.voicestream.com
Proxy = 216.155.165.050
Port= 8080
Username= None
Password = None (delete the 4 digit PW that is there)
Server = Not set (also delete the 1 digit PW there)
MMSC = Unchanged (do not change it)
MMS proxy = 216.155.165.050
MMS port = 8080
MCC, MNC, and APN type all stay they was they are.
Now as far as remembering the old information goes, you can always go into T-Mobile US 160 (right below T-Mobile US), which has all the same settings as T-Mobile US including the password. All you have to do is copy and paste it.
How do you copy and paste? To do this let’s say you go into T-Mobile US and where it says “Name.” Click it and the edit box will pop up; hold your finger on the name, and then another box will pop up; click “Copy all” (this is only going to copy what is in that box). To paste, you go wherever you want to paste it and do the same steps.
Hope this can help you guys. I know not being able to send or receive MMS was getting to me pretty bad.

Summary:
Some providers make use of a different APNs for MMS and data. In such cases, leaving the APN type as "" will cause MMS not to work (see History for explanation). To fix this, we have to ensure the following:
Data APN Types are set to "default", or "default,supl" (if you're having issues with AGPS, use the supl one)
MMS APN Types are set to "mms"
In other words, APN types should not be left blank for any APN. Hope it helps. For a detailed description read below.
History:
Hi all,
I previously had MMS working perfect after following this instructions: http://www.systemscrafter.com/imho/archives/6, but since I switched to CyanogenMod BETA 3 MMS hasn't been working for me.
After some testing, I've found out the following. It seems that under APN Type, the one you use for data MUST be designated as "default", and for the MMS one, as "mms". Lower-case. The apns-conf.xml left out the "default".
Secondly, after doing that, it still did not work reliably. This was solved by removing one of the data APNs. In Cyan's apns-conf.xml, there were "Gee! (GPRS)" and "StarHub Internet". These 2 are essentially the same APN point (one uses proxy, one does not), configuration wise, just given different names. I removed "Gee! (GPRS)" and entered "default" under "StarHub Internet", and MMS is now working perfect.
Update: xiutian had a simpler fix. Simply go to "Gee! (GPRS)" and "StarHub Internet", make sure both of them are set to APN type "default". It works, just tested. In other words, never leave the "APN type" blank. It has to be either "default" or "mms". (Any other values? not too sure...)
Update #2: cyanogen has kindly informed me that setting it to "default" may cause AGPS to stop working. After doing some searching, I found this: http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...how-can-i-get-internet-work-my-nexus-one.html. Apparently, setting it to "" makes Android use it for everything, which explains why MMS was not working for some of us. To fix the AGPS part, instead of using "default", we now use "default,supl".
Update #3: @bcpk on Twitter has kindly pointed me to the following article: http://wccftech.com/2010/09/09/solving-gps-nofix-problem-cyanogenmod-6-nexus/ Do check it out if you're having issues with CM6.
Hope it helps some of you.

I'm sorry to say that it did not help me.
I'm on Orange in Switzerland.
I had to input the apn myself and don't see where i can make it default or not.
Could you please provide me with a little more info?
Thanks
I went thru the APN list and made the necessary corrections. Will include in beta4.
The file is here if you have anything to add:
http://github.com/cyanogen/android_vendor_cyanogen/blob/eclair/prebuilt/etc/apns-conf.xml
Awsome
For Orange CH I've found 2 things that work for me,
1) apn internet
mcc 228
mnc 03
2) apn wap
proxi 192.168.010.002
port 8080
mcc 228
mnc 03
Both these settings work to get data, but I still havent managed to find the correct mms settings, and the shop not only wants me to leave them the phone for an hour or 2 (i wonder why) but then they want me to pay them extra for the mms info..BS
I've been searching on the web but all the settings I've found and tried are not working.

When entering your APN, scroll to the bottom, there's a option "APN type", tap on that and type in "default". To be honest I don't know why Google can't make it a ListBox where we can choose from...

ahhh thanks,
I always thought apn type had something to do with the operator and therefor never even tapped on in.
I'll keep trying then with some of the settings I've found online, set the internet one to default, and see what happens, as soon as I can

I'm on Centennial Wireless. I had the internet working since day 1. But this didn't help with the mms. It does seem 2 almost connect now that I put mms in type, but still no go.
success
yeaaayyy i finally got it.
Orange switzerland has 2 sets of settings, one for data and one for mms.
I had the correct information for both, but my mistake was in the apn type field.
So I went ahead and made the main data on default,supl and the other mms et voila...thanks...that link helped

esincho: More info would be good. You put "mms" in type for your MMS APN, right? What about your Data APN? What did you put in type for that?
Seems that the new Nexus One update has an updated apns-conf.xml.
Some of the settings have changed, particularly StarHub.
Code:
<apn carrier="StarHub"
mcc="525"
mnc="05"
apn="internet"
type="default,supl"
/>
<apn carrier="Gee! MMS"
mcc="525"
mnc="05"
apn="shmms"
mmsc="http://mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002"
mmsproxy="10.12.1.80"
mmsport="80"
type="mms"
/>
I've also uploaded it here: http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=wysie/MISC/&file=apns-conf.xml

sorry bro U right. I'm not new 2 having 2 put in these settings, cause I am on Centennial and I buy all my phones unlocked cause Centennial phones suck. My internet works fine, 4 it under type I put default,supl cause I read somewhere this is what 2 put. Like I say, I have all the right mms info from the carrier cause I'm use 2 putting it in. I shows like it's connecting, but it don't maintain connection.
I just received a mms and was able 2 open it, but I still can't send any.

Uff, thanx this helped me. Now I can use MMS on Orange Austria.
how can i verify AGPS is working?
htc magic next to my n1 seems to show more accurate position, and we're in door so it couldn't be pure gps
I can't seem to have MMS working on my N1. I am in Honduras and the settings seems to be pretty str8forward but my MMS are not going out.
I've set up the 2 apn and tried both the "default" and "defaul,supl" setting but nothing. The message is never sent out. I seems like the application is calling the APN but then it stops. I can see that for a second the icon of the Edge connection disappears when trying to send the MMS.
How would you configure your apn with the following settings :
nombre de la configuracion: MMS Claro
Pagina de inicio: 10.6.32.27/servlets/mms
Punto de Acceso o (apn): mms.megatel.hn

I'm on AT&T right now,
i use APNdroid to disable Data, but i still want to be able to use MMS, so i set APNdroid to still allow MMS, and i made anothe APN with the necessary info and as APN type MSS
but it doesn't seem to work, any input?
after some fiddling with it i fixed it myself
i took the default APN added MMS as APN type
and told APNdroid to ALLOW 3g data (so practically not use apndroid)
and NO MMS Port as seen at some other places, MMS port is <not set>
For those who wanna see entire settings for JUST MMS (not data)
Name: AT&T MMS

MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: <not set>
MCC: 310
MNC: 410

APN Type: mms
using APNdroid to disable Data and keeping MMS doesn't work, just set the APN type to MMS and you're good..
if you want to use both MMS and Data just keep the APN type field <not set>

Hey guys,
I was using andriod for awhile via SD, then I switched over to a NAND install of it.
On any install of Android I've used, I've been having problems sending / receiving MMS.
I have the following APN settings plugged into my phone, but obviously something is not right with them.
Can someone who has Android running on their T-Mobile US phone that has MMS working please chime in and let me know what settings you have used.
I've search and found several variations of the settings, and I've tried every one I can find but nothing is working so far.
Here is what I currently have :
NAME : T-Mobile US
APN : epc.tmobile.com
PROXY : 216.155.165.050
PORT : 8080
USERNAME : none
PASSWORD : none
SERVER : none
MMSC : http://mms.msg.english.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS PROXY : 206.155.165.50
MMS PORT : 8080
MMS PROTOCOL : WAP 2.0
MCC : 310
MNC : 260
AUTHENTICATION TYPE : none
APN TYPE : none
Like I said above, I've tried others settings that are simular to my current ones but nothing has worked so far. I as well tried calling T-Mobile to get the APN settings from them, but they will not release them to me over the phone for whatever reason.
My 3G is working great, and I can send/recieve normal text messages. Just the MMS is not working correctly (pics, video, sounds, etc).
Thanks for any help
edit :
on a side note, it would be nice to know what each setting is for. where can I find that info at?

well first of all, this should be:
MMSC : http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc (not .english.)
MMS PROXY : 216.155.165.50 (not 206.)
and on my data connection at least, i dont need to set the proxy or port for the apn (the two above mms, i just leave them blank)

the wap profile is what your provider uses to identify what device your using and resize the images correctly for your device while in transit.

thanks again
Ok I have found where to put this info but how do you pu the info there?
Here are the files to push to the phone, use adb shell.
Forewarning, this may not work, not because the files are incorrect, but because other then these files being there during initial setup, they dont always take.
I recently switched to zip roms (Using Clockwork Mod) which gives you the ability to change these files in the zip rom before flashing and loading to the phone. So far its the only method I have found to work.
But your all more then welcome to the files.
I dont remember which post I got them from, but no credit goes to me other then attaching them to this post.
These files fix the MMS re-size problem, the blurry pix sent problem, the recieving size problem, Picture size options: 300, 600, 1024, And all the APNs possible for near all phones.
I'm a noob so how do we do this step by step!! Thank in advance. I am running the zip Jaws-MIUI.

Take the rar you just downloaded and unrar it, after unraring it zip the files using rar and compression using store mode. name the zip update.zip, go into clockwork choose update.zip, and it should install the updates from my understanding.
In this form, it just may install and work correctly. post back with results.
I uploaded it and still nothing. I can send a pic to everyone except this certain person who is on att network.

3G on a HTC HD2 Leo 100 (T-Mobile one)?
Is this possible?
I just got one, I live in Mexico, and as far as I know, the HTC HD2 T-Mobile sells is not 3G compatible?

I have no idea, I don't see why not. I'm pretty sure Mexico uses the same bands.
I finally have my Atrix (and love it), however there is something I noticed today that did NOT work: I cannot receive or send MMS.
It seems that in their eagerness to lock it to AT&T, motorola have removed MMS settings from the messaging app, and have locked the MMS settings to use only AT&T. Which is a bit of a problem, with me being in Singapore.
I already tried doing the access point setup and everything, but it just will not work.
Has anybody else outside US got MMS to work for them? If yes, how?
Never mind guys, I solved it. For Singapore M1, the settings need to be as googled, with two APNs:
1) "sunsurf" (no mms settings!), APN type "default"
2) "miworld", APN type "mms"
It seems the phone switches between the APNs for MMS sending / retrieval, which may take a few seconds. I thank m1 for their messed-up MMS settings... NOT.

have you tried setting the APN type as "default,mms"? (Wihout the quotes, obviously)
*edit* from another forum ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-625061.html ), it seems your settings should be:
1) apn internet
mcc 228
mnc 03
apn type: default
2) apn wap
proxi 192.168.010.002
port 8080
mcc 228
mnc 03
apn type: mms
i m trying now i will give u a feeedback asap
no. it doesn't work still searching....
Yeah, it surprised me that there is no MMS proxy or MMSC... there needs to be. Look at http://www.activexperts.com/xmstoolkit/mmsclist/ , maybe that helps?
>> MMSC http://192.168.151.3:8002 <<
I already tried all the possible combination for a correct apn make me crazy the only things now is trying to root the phone perhaps it helps

no, i allready rootet the phone and it is not working.
I'm on Swisscom.
I try Go SMS with the extra settings for MMS ... nope, not working :-(
The MMS is basically setup via APNs. The MMS settings there (MMS center, MMS proxy, etc.) need to be correct. For me, there even need to be two separate APNs for MMS and web. You could ask your network provider to push them to your phone, maybe that helps. Just say you have an Android one.
I am sorry to hear it does not work for you guys in Switzerland. I am not there, so a bit limited what I can do...
No prob buddy thanks to help,
i do a second apn just for the mms but it was what i tried from the beginning... i don t know , this phone isn't be regonnized from orange to be set.... i don 't know.
And i m back in us so i must wait 2 months before trying a new solution but still thinking...
If you can post some picture of your phone setting nobody knows,
Ok one more possibility... GingerBlur comes with its own apns-conf.xml . You could try pushing that to your phone without installing gingerblur. Make sure you back the previous file up first, though!
yeah perhaps but i still locking deeper where att set the phone's apn not so much time this week but i m trying ...

I use an unlocked Verizon Droid Pro in Germany with Vodafone. The phone works fine. I can place and receive calls, also abroad. I can also send sms messages. But I cannot connect to the internet via GSM. I added an APN with web.vodafone.de and select that APN to be used but it doesn't work.
Anyone has an idea on that? Is it locked on Verizon internet gateway (which is of course not available)?
Thanks for any help.
Hi,
I have the same config and it is working fine.
Only MMS are not working with any config.
I have only set
Name: vodafone
apn: web.vodafone.de
mcc: 262
Mnc: 02
Everything else is not set!

Hello,
I had the same problem with my unlocked Droid Pro... I am working in mobile network company, so found the problem only because I was able to trace it directly in equipment
There are fields username/password fields in the APN settings. Whenever you let these fields empty (because your carrier does not need them) - phone sends [email protected] instead of login name, and authentication server rejects your internet request because of bad login. So you have two options:
1. Ask your carrier to activate "authentication override" in the network - but I don't think that they'll do it because of one complaint
2. Search for a file named “pppd-ril.options” in /system/etc/ppp/peers and open it with text editor. There are two fields in this file:
user [email protected]
password NotUsed
You should just delete user and password values, so the text should be:
user
password
Don't touch other lines. Also you should be root for it.
Hope it helps.

Thanks. That really was the point. However even I got root I could modify but not safe that file. Every text editor came back with a write error. So I went to Settings-Wireless-Mobile Networks-Access Point Names and created a new APN instead of using the APN given there. I then selected the new APN to be used. I guess that one does not hold the NotUsed entry mentioned above.
Once more thanks a lot
Btw: Any idea why I cannot modify the original file?
Nice that it works
I also had problems with saving... finally, after a lot of headaches SUFBS file manager helped - you can mount system as read-write there.
This is also solution on Atrix 4G/MB860 on AT&T stock fruitcake 4.5.145

Yes, thanks. With b-mobile (DOCOMO) I needed to fill in [email protected] and bmobile for the username/password as raginginferno suggests here, quoting your post: tripadvisor. com/ ShowTopic-g294232-i525-k5434695-o30-B_mobile_USIM300_Visitor_Prepaid_Sim_card_ENGLISH-Japan.html
