I need to recover my lost contacts off my sim card. Active sync isnt an option, long story.
I already have a data recovery software. But i guess it wont read it through usb-phone itself, so i picked up a 51 in 1 card reader. I plug it into it and it wont read it, it reads my micro sd fine. My question is what type of sim card is the one in the 8525, Phoenix type, or PC/SC?
Sorry, I can't add much to this other than to advise you not to buy one of those cheap usb sim card readers. The ones made in China, they fit in the palm of your hand and are usually a colored semi-transparent plastic.
I bought one and it sucks, the software is horrible, and I lost the CD so now I have no drivers....can't find any on the internet and there are no markings on this reader to determine who made it.
I believe they usually go for under $15

If your Card Reader still requires a driver, either your computer/OS or your card reader is too old. Most cards produced in the last 3-4 years do not require special drivers.
Also there seems to be a mix-up with SIM card (for phone connection) and Memory card (e.g. SD, CF, MS.....) reader in this post!

Yup i know what your talking about, It a USB thumb drive for sim cards. I think im going to order one, There pretty cheap.
I downloaded a sim card data recovery about a month ago and just getting into it now. So i found the only simcard reader i could find at a local store, But its an all in one memory card reader. And the software dosnt work with it.

nothing is too old, I'm running a computer that is under a year old, with windows XP, the card reader is also less than 6 months old.
This isn't mine, but except for the color it looks exactly the same and the price is about what I paid....http://www.meritline.com/usb-sim-card-reader.html
My point was these SIM card readers are crap, and yes even in today's plug and play world some things still need drivers to work correctly, this being one of them.

One more question, Could you acess your sim at all from windows of did u have to rely on the software? I was under the assumption that you could access it like any other memory card.
And i miss read your message, thought you were recommending one of those cheap ones. I took your advice and ordered a namebrand one so hopfully I dont have any compatibility issues with my recovery software.
I have a Touch HD on Orange UK, stock rom, radio etc
sandisk 8Gb mobile micro sd card (C6 card)
this is the second unit (first replaced under insurance) that is slow
very slow.
in touch flow music player, it takes 45seconds + to play music
and in this time the unit will not respond to anything.
also now tomtom can't see the gps aerial, until i reboot and update quick gps.
i'm getting really ******** with the HD, and if you guys can't help i'm going back to my nokia n73
Thanks in advance
TC,
Flash a custom ROM if you want a stable and smooth performance.
You won't regret it
Cheers.

Problems you describe should not occur even with stock rom. Sounds like something is wrong with your device. Have you recently tried changing anything, i.e. a new custom rom, radio etc etc?
not changed anything on the unit.
it has standard orange rom, and has never been changed.
this is the second HD with this problem.
i was thinking it might just be Orange have made a mess of it!!!
tried new roms etc on the first one. still no better.
so i rang orange and they changed it.. but this new one is just the same
in fact its worse!!!!!

Something is seriously amiss with your device. I'd advise you to backup whatever you need and then do a hardreset if you want to keep your current rom, or try a custom rom.
Whilst I can't speak for the Touch HD specifically, this would be far from the first time Orange (or any other network for that matter) had screwed up a phone's software by way of their branding.
The best thing you can do is try replacing the ROM with an un-Orange-ified one.
I got a similar experience, and I installed the latest stock ROM from HTC using USPL. (RUU_BlackStone_HTC_Europe_1.56.401.0_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship.exe)
It was pretty easy (It took me about 15 min to flash the ROM) and it was worth.
the only pain was to reconfigure all your applications, but it depends on how many you have added.
TomTom is working perfectly.
can anyone recomend a ROM & Radio to flash to a HD on UK orange?

Hey Mate,
I had experienced similar issues with the stock Telstra branded ROM, I am now using Windows 6.5.1 (Build 230XX) on my mobile which has a much better touch user interface to WM 6.1. 6.5.1 would be a little less stable than 6.5 (Build 218xx).
[23/10/09] XannyTechROM GRID LEO 1.9 Latest Leo (WM 21870.5.0.70)
[16.10.09] MaryOne v0.05☻Build 23071☻Leo 1.28☻[MANILA 1920xx]☻
Are 2 great Newer ROMS
I'd advise you to check the file system of your memory card.
I had a similar issue where pocket player was taking minutes to start up, device was hanging, etc.
The disk check found and corrected a number of errors and everything is working normally since then,
Just connect the phone as a disk drive to the pc and run a disk check.
ya just before i mentioned this thing in somewhere else on forum orange provider htc touch hd is crap i dont know what hey have done with it but it was seriously lagging then my one of vodafone....... even touch flow 3d doesnot work good enough.
i am saying this having experience of my bros mobile.of orange network
thanks god vodafone saved me. though htc touch hd 2 is giving me greed...

Definately sounds like the problems you can be having with messed up SD card. I had similar experience, so try removing the memory card first and if this does not help - hard reset (could be some bad application you installed) or new ROM. Plenty of them around here most of them pretty good.
what id do is the following:
grab http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Business&cid=1135315301990&c=OUKPage&rootid=1130996672026&roottype=NavMenuItem&extarg1=1044137233185&extarg2=HTC+Touch+HD%E2%84%A2&extarg4=select
remove sim + SD card
hard-reset & let it configure
connect to pc (activesync) and run orange's latest RUU
allow to configure
test your issues to see if their resolved
if fixed, re-insert sim+SD card
SD card has various ways todo it. i just connect phone to pc, use 'storage card' option for conneciton type, then format as the lowest format (fat preferably, but usually fat32. NTFS has issues according to many, i havent tried)
i havent tested the mp3 playback on my HD (dont use it), but i've found too many issues with cooked roms i've now reverted back to shipping ROM's just to get a 100% working reliable phone.
ime cooked roms all have one of the following wrong with them:
- beta release software causing instability
- slow performance
- buggy features (Dutty's Leo R6 has bluetooth issues)
that said, there is a ton of reasons to go with cooked roms, just the con's outweigh the pro's for me.

nokia back in the draw
Hi, first of all, sorry if Ive posted this in the wrong forum.
Right, basically, I purchased a new HD2 last month (I love it!) and it came with a stock 2GB micro sd card, which is not big enough for the music and movies I want to put on my phone. I purchased a Sandisk 32GB Micro SDHC off ebay, it was genuine, came in genuine packaging etc.
Now, I was transfering music onto the memory card via the phone using a program called iTunes Sync, which transfers music contained in my iTunes to an MP3 Player/memory card. Half way through the transfer, it stopped and the phone/memory card automatically disconnected from my computer. The memory card was then unrecognised by the phone, so I performed a soft reset and the phone went past the HTC screen and then went black, and wouldn't boot. However, when I removed the card, the phone would boot up fine.
I put the memory card into a card reader I have and plugged it into my computer.Windows recognised the memory card, but it only had a capacity of 8MB and Windows could not format it or access it. I also put the card into an SD Adapter, making sure it was in the unlock position, as I'd read this could have solved the problem.
Unfortunately for me, it didn't. However, I contacted the seller and they sent me a replacement (exactly the same card). Today, I've put the replacement card in, started using iTunes Sync and the exact same thing has occured.
Now, what I want to know is if these are genuinely defunct memory cards, if theres a problem with my phone, if I should stop using iTunes Sync (although I can't understand how a program can make a memory card non-functional), if I should get a smaller sized memory card, if its a problem with my computer, or if I'm just attracting a lot of bad luck!
I just want to know what is happening or what I can do to make sure it doesn't happen again. As you may understand, I'm getting very frustrated.
Any help is appreciated
*sigh*...dude search search search!
it has been discussed in many many threads. ebay sellers are notorious for selling "fake" sd cards. it turns out, so far very few manufacturers have very few models that are genuinely 32GB. the "fake" ones are specially formatted to present themselves as 32GB, until you start filling them up. then, surprise!
there are some software tools that can confirm that it is a fake, i forget the name.
summary: you have been sold a fake card. search some more to read other similar threads...you'll find many which contain EXACTLY the same symptoms as yours and conclusions as mine.
what he said.
It could very likely be fake if you got it off ebay. How much did you pay? What class is it and what is the part number on it? I have 2 32gb Sandisk cards... 1 is class 2, 1 is class 4... both work great. Sandisk is the best brand cards out there, but there's a lot of counterfeits.
Does anyone know of a Nokia/Symbian phone available in the US to unlock WP7 formatted cards? I went to T-Mobile yesterday and they didn't have any Nokias on display. I would like to have my card usable again.
the nokia N8 or any symbian phone running the same version os, you cannot unlock the card, just format. I brough my microsd alive yesterday using the N8, i dont have the phone, but i have many friends who works as promotors for nokia, samsung, LG etc. so i tried the N8 yesterday.
the instructions.
you can put the microsd hotswap or have the phone turned off,
the phone will detect the microsd, and ask for a passwork/id (after it's been in a windows phone, the microsd will be locked, and as normal you wont have the password/id).
press cancel.
in the main menu, goto applications, and select office, file mgr.
after you press file mgr., you will have 3 drives to choose from, the last one should be the microsd, and it should'nt show any figures of the size of the usage.
press and hold, you will have 2 options to choose from.
unlock microsd and format.
select format.
that it.

i think symbian ^3 only, you can try them on others, it may work, but have'nt tried it.
I doubt a regular Nokia phone will work. I tried a Nokia flip phone & it asks for a password, but when you cancel it didn't let me format the card. I went through every menu option without luck.
N8 and C5 works, tried them myself, c6 and C7 should also work, or the latest touch screen in the C series.
The Sony Vivaz will also format. And BTW... I put my microsd card into laptop (using adapter) and after multiple tries it did actually format !

How did you get your laptop to even see the card? My PC won't even acknowledge that I've but the card in the slot, much less offer to reformat.
I have a perfectly good 16gb Sandisk that is useless since I exchanged my Focus for a Captivate on Newyears Eve.
Any info appreciated.
I did it on my HP Laptop with Vista OS. Could it be that I lucked out ? It was a Sandisk 32GB MicroSD card (no class type printed on card). I have also heard that many digital cameras can format them so try that as well. And even worst case try this puppy...
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
sd formatter does not work.
Well... it was only a shot at it. And only a guess, but Android phones have a nice utility built in to format micro sd cards as well.
Put the card into Android based phone (2.2 version), then Settings>SD card and phone storage>Format SD card
May work, may not but there are many alternatives to get the card to format. Just keep trying. Like I said, I was lucky enough that my laptop did format after having the card in my Samsung Focus.
Edit: Also note that XP and Vista have some issues. Read article 40, 41, 42 from this list ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#cite_note-39
You could also try a laptop or computer running Windows 7.
I have a problem with my HD MINI I have Android 2.2 on it and I can´t use my SD-Card. I tried to format it with fat32 but it didn´t work. I have and 8GB Micro SD Card by Hama, Class 2 and i don´t know what to do Please answer
maybe a hard reset might help, if not buy a better sd card eg. sandisk, kingston, samsung.......
Sandisk not works for me. Tried 2 sandisk not working
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Have you tried formatting it using your phone? There is a tool somewhere in the WinMo if you use a stock ROM or a custom ROM that didn't remove it. Good luck!
I tried to format but it didn´t work later as well I´m sure I´ll buy a new one which one are working?
Htc Hd Mini Android Sd Card Problems
Even me too have the same problem. My SD card is Sandisk 8GB micro sd , also fat 32. Still its not detecting the Memory card. So not able to use the camera , not able to browse the files etc
Just to confirm, I've tried two Sandisk SD Cards and neither of them work. However I picked up a TDK card and it worked absolutely fine. Looks like Sandisk is a very unreliable card to use for Android. I've never seen anyone launch Android on one!

I dont think it is the memory cards. I have just had my new HTC Sensation delivered and it cannot read the supplied 8gig card that comes with it ( that contains a copy of the ROM\Software ).
I put the same card in my HTC Hero running Elelinux ROM ( Android 2.2.3 ) and it read it no problem. Also my PC read the card , no issue. I put my HTC Hero card in the HTC Sensation and it wouldnt read that card. The Sensation is running Android 2.3.3 straight from Orange.
Phoned Orange last night as the phone only arrived in the morning. They are sending me a replacement phone today via courier.
Lots of discussion about this on HTC Sensation, EVO 4G, Desire and Wildfire on the net. Also, in the USA Sprint have issued a software update for the EVO to cure the problem.
I have made a note of my software stack so i can compare with what arrives later today. Suspect that if it isnt a hardware issue then its a software problem. Nothing worked to get the twoc ards workign in my phone, hard resets etc. The phone wasnt detecting the card being put in - normally on the OS sees the card insert and you get a message 'preparing SD Card' . Mine totally dead in this respect.
Lets see what happens today.
