I use to have a XDA 2 (well, SPV M1000) and (the important thing) a folder named "My XDA 2 must have". The software I use most, the software to backup, the software to keep not only to try. Like:
1. Sprite Backup
2. Visual IT Rough Guide to London (like A-Z map to central London + extras)
3. Splash ID
and not last
4. TomTom 5 .... and others that I miss already.
And THEN, here it is, I waited so long for it, (Exec) that I decided to switch from Orange, to O2, (Orange don't have this even now). Three days of "testing"...Well the device is great....Windows 5 isn't. (At least for me.)
My folder (My XDA 2 must have) is now "The software that doesn't work on WM5" ...None of the four named programs work...it takes ages to charge, it's slow, everything has changed...and how about that 'program' included "Clear Storage"??!!!
I thought it was something like remove programs, not a bloody HARD RESET!
Everything seems to say about Windows 5.....WHY FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKEN??!!!
BTW: Does anybody know a decent Wi-Fi Connections Manager that WORKS?? (Hitchhiker crashes my Exec, Retina Scanner wants to know what my socks size is when registering, Wi-Fi Companion Doesn't Install in WM5.........)
I am glad I didn't sell my SPV M1000 yet....but I want to....I love the Exec, but hate what it does...or rather what it doesn't!
..............helps us all !!!
You seem surprised that a major version upgrade (WM2003 to WM5) comes with occasional problems. Didn't we see the same when we changed from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95?
Later versions of desktop operating systems have some backwards compatibility built in, but with the limited resources of the PPC platform I guess they couldn't achieve everything.
We may not know what they are yet , but I'm sure WM5 has built-in features that drive the platform on another big leap and over time we'll take them for granted. I looked at my XDA2 last night (now two days-worth of dust gathering on it) and was reminded how fast it responded to commands, but it looked dated already compared with my shiny new Exec.
Don't forget, we're early adopters of WM5 and we're always going to have problems. When ROM upgrades are released and developers get new versions out for us, we'll wonder how we ever lived without it!
In case you haven't seen it yet, there's a thread running over at www.tekguru.co.uk listing the software that works perfectly on WM5. I found it useful when looking for replacements for my old WM2003 versions.
I have #2 and #4 working (for #4 you need TT 5.1 - d/l the update from their site)
Reinstall from fresh I reckon. And you are using activesync 4 not 3.8 still?
I agree with SiliconS.. I'm always wanting the very latest of everything (hardware and software) and to be honest, I'm surprised how good windows mobile 5 is!
There are many problems, like icons disappearing and speed etc..but they're not life threatening.
I only hope that the providers are going to keep up with the developers and release their specific patches..if not then I'll have to convert to the Jasjar rom
I love the MDA PRO even with it's problems.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll try these options as well.
BTW, anyone has any problems with the AvantGo software?
Also
#1 Try googling : Sprite Backup v3.2.0 build 2487.
Should be working with JJ.
Best of Luck.

This is real? had you used and work with restores?
Thanks.
From the Sprite Backup developers website:
"Sprite Backup is only compatible with devices using Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003. Windows Mobile 2005 devices cannot use Sprite Backup. We will be releasing a new version that will be compatible with these devices in the near future. Please keep visiting this site for updates."
I did try the version you mentioned but no luck. I use a Exec not a JJ...coud that be it? Thanks anyway...and damn I need a backup program...[/quote]
Here I am after another whole day of reading forums, installing and uninstalling, hard resets, trial and error....and things like that.
As far as the XDA is concerned....I feel better about it now, installed SPB Pocket Plus (works a dream), SPB Finance (great 'cuz it syncs with Quicken), and most of all, swiched to "Corporate" mode...and man, it is FAST now !!!
As mentioned before, Sprite Backup doesn't work, AvantGo works but not as it should, SplashID....nope. I did try eWallet, which works ok on the desktop but not on the XDA.
It's all good fun though.

I'm thinking that I might go for a hard reset and choose Corp, but I don't know how to set up the GPRS details. How did you get GPRS working for Corporate Mode, or haven't you needed to?
I do find the settings for all these connections v.confusing. I just want it simple, like my laptop! One connection does all...
Now that you mentioned that, I wouldn't know if I need different setting yet, as I am still on Orange for the next couple of days until they port my number. Interesting to see if it works though.
I've tried today the GPRS, G3 connection and it worked without changing anything. (In Corporate mode)
Greetings,
I ve heard that bluetooth was kind of locked for HTC Hero, and you was unable to send - receive files with it.Anyone tested it?Maybe what i've heard was just for the beta version that sites had for review.
Huh? You really cant use bluetooth to transfer files in Android!
unless you use some 3rd party apps..
and i also want to know if it is working..
there is a free app in the market:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-androbex-activity-jBFm.aspx
No, Android OS does not support file transfer yet. It only supports HFP and A2DP. thei si the same on all 1,5 devices by samsung as well.
Google haven't programmed it into teh OS yet, and so you need some third party stuff. some work some don't, but native support in android is coming in a later update, either 2.0 or later.
Thanks for replys. This is kinda basic for a phone, isn't it? :S
Irispen is this app you ve linked working Ok on Hero?

im 80% sure since hero is android 1.5..
not 100% sure because no one is confirming it.
Hero
Looks like it's 1.5
being that 2.0 is nowhere near being released, of course it is.
yeh the hero is 1.5.
It does not support file transfer just like the iphone.
If you have a rooted phone you can do this by downloading the bluex app off marketplace.
That allows you to transfer over bluetooth
bluex doesnt work dont waste ur money!!

Also every developer ive contacted in regards to these bt apps have not responded so i went ahead and refunded the money!
Isthe bluetooth problem with HERO fixed with the 2.0 firmware?
I wanted to buy the HTC HERO for my birthday and when I heard that it doesn't have blue tooth file transfer I was shocked. is it true that it doesn't support file transfer?
if yes is this the problem with the 1.5 android?
have they fixed it on the 2.0 firmware?
because they offer the 2.0 download on the HTC site. I wanted to know if it supports file transfer with blue tooth, I would get it then update it to the 2.0
please let me know. thank you

Don't mix up things ...
You can transfer files from PC to Hero over USB, no problem. Currently with Android 1.5 it is not possible to do it via Bluetooth.
Android 2.0 is not out yet, I don't know, what you're referring to, but it would take a couple of weeks until we see an official 2.0 release from HTC
And these are the 'official' enhancements for Android 2.0 regarding Bluetooth:
Bluetooth
•Bluetooth 2.1
•New BT profiles: Object Push Profile (OPP) and Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP)
I assume, that the PBAP profile was added by HTC in the Hero_2.73.405.5 ROM, as since I made the update, my Navigon MN|7 Navigation system can access and use Hero's phone book ...
Hi all,
In the next few days, I will order my new phone. It will be the N900 or the HD2.
Living permanently in a foreign country with my girlfriend in my home country, I need to stay connected to Skype and Gtalk 24/7 without app crash.
The N900 handles the 2 im systems natively and is very stable according to first testers.
I know that skype exists for winmo 6.5 devices but as I never owned a WinMo phone before I need your feedback about the reliability of the skype app on WinMo before making my decision.
Concerning GTalk, does the HD2 support it natively or, if not, is there a great (free or paying) app in order to stay connected to the google im service.
Regards,
Arnaud

if you are not worried about the N900, you don't have to worry about HD2. WinMO definitely has tons of more applications available and it is kinda funny that you are comparing WinMO to a device that has such a new platform which doesn't have any third party apps yet. Try IMPlus, it has everything you wanna to connect and chat. You need to pay for it, but it is worthed every pennies.
Maybe someone has already posted this, but the T-Mobile MDA Compact V update to Windows Mobile 6.5 is available on the UK website:
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS&tab=1
Let me know how you get on, and then I may try it myself!
Thanks for the update! Been checking almost every day, but forgot today...
I sent mine off for repairs a few weeks back and it came back with 6.5 on it. Dumped the ROM and posted it on here in the Topaz ROMS section.
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581070
BTW it's way better than the 6.1 stock rom but not as good IMO as the cooked rom I'm using (Dutty's HG1)http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579076
Yes it pretty much still sucks. Better Home Screen please T-Mobile? Maybe throw some Sense UI type widgets in there??
A list of pros and cons (specific to this phone) would be useful. I read of one con: the standard WiFi connection has gone. Has anyone found improvements in Bluetooth connectivity/functionality?
Does anyone know if it has CoPilot 7 preinstalled (like the T-mobile 6.1 ROM)?
My wife had a real problem getting CoPilot working when she got the Compact V. The 18 month freebie ran out after 1 month and, in the end, T-mobile just sent her an unlimited license key.
Because she had this much hassle to get CP7 working, I've not wanted to put another ROM on for her, which would mean she loses it. [I'm not sure whether everything she'll need to reinstall CP7 is on the storage card (which she can then use her license key with) or whether there are key files that are only present in the T-mo ROM.]
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks Mike. Been checking every flippin day for this.

If you use Firefox, install the 'Update Scanner' add-on. This monitors web pages for changes. It is also good for snapping up returned theatre tickets!

I've just rung 150 with the same question and had no sensible reply back [it did include the usual 'nothing to do with us' comment, even though T-Mob are who 'sold' us all Co-Pilot so it is very much to do with them]. I have been promised a call back in 20 minutes...

I have an idea that CoPilot is associated with the SDcard. I upgraded my SD-card from the standard 2GB to 8GB. I copied CoPilot across, but it would not work. I had to first unregister it from the old SDcard and reregister on the new SDcard.

I did just copy the files over to a 16gb card and it worked. This was before I had the correct license installed. But then that is just a text file isn't it, so can be readily copied around between cards. The programme itself was pre-installed on the handset. What we were not given was a retail sd card version of the programme - the card didn't have the 2577 folder that a retail version would have included, so we are not in a position to reinstall.
Yes this does have CoPilot 7 preinstalled on it. The main program is built into the ROM. You will also need to keep the SD Card files as they are still necessary.
*BEFORE* you upgrade, you first have to deactivate your CoPilot key in the CoPilot 7 Licensing screen. This will give you a deactivation code.
You then go to the ALK deactivation website on your computer (just do a search) and enter the product key and new code.
Then you can flash the 6.5 ROM and reactivate your CoPilot 18-month license.
Forget to do this and you'll have to deal with ALK directly and get them to deactivate it after the fact.
Thanks very much for confirming this. Now of course my wife is asking what else is actually better about the 6.5 ROM. Although I jumped at the chance to upgrade my TP2 when the new ROM came out, I must admit I'm struggling a bit to tell her what the killer features of the new ROM may be!
- Marketplace, well that's available in 6.1 now anyway.
- Slightly more touch friendly, but nothing too groundbreaking.
- Weather wallpaper - not sure if this is even in the T-Mobile ROM as they managed to mangle the TouchFlo clock in the stock 6.1 ROM.
- ???
Anyone have any thoughts on what might persuade my "if it ain't broke, don't fiddle with it" wife to upgrade?

FWIW - I seem to recall that after a hard reset, the first boot seemed to take a long time and I got the impression this was because CoPilot was installing itself. I also found a Copilot*.cab file (8Mb or so in size) in the \Windows directory, so I wonder whether this is basically the same as would be present in the 2577 folder.
Of course, I haven't actually tried using this to install on a clean ROM...
Agree that one does, of course, need the SD card as this has all the map data, etc.
Just wanted to say that I was unable to deactivate my copy of CoPilot 7 Live on my Compact V, the option just wasn't there on the licensing page. I went ahead and upgraded my rom anyway and am now unable to use CoPilot, so for anyone else wanting to upgrade, if you can't deactivate then CoPilot will not work when you upgrade.
Hopefully ALK will sort this for me.
I had this problem after resetting my Compact V (6.1, not tried 6.5 yet). I still had the original product key/licence code in my IE url history. After relaunching this page I selected the 'free trial' option and it worked!
I have upgraded the OS, but the previous product key that gave me full European cover didn't work. I reinstalled Copilot using the cab file - as metioned above - and that allowed me to start the registration process again, as when I first got the phone. This opened up Internet Explorer, and offered a 18-month evaluation for £0 but at the end of the process it is only UK/IE
Anyone got it back up to full EU?
ps I too didn't have any deactivate options originally, though I do now...
New query - On the web I see lots of screen grabs and videos of Diamond 2s with 6.5 and home screens featuring animated weather, more colourful icons along the scroll bar, etc. Have T-Mobile provided an older version of HTC Sense in this ROM [2.1 instead of 2.5]?
Yes it is older. Not sure which Sense UI is used, I got rid of T-Mobile 6.5 once I installed it (hated it personally) and went the Cooked way....
Hello everybody.
Could someone explain me why there are applications that aren't available for Hero ?
For example : Google Earth
I can find it in the Market with a HTC Desir, but I can't with our Hero...
First I though that's because we where under android 1.5
But now we all are running 2.1 (official or not) but we still can't have this apply (and others I suppose)
Wht's the problem ? Must we change our phone every 6 monthes for the latest one, to access all applys ?
i think it's because some apps like google earth cannot be run by htc hero because of its hardware and the low specs
