Test the front camera using an app such as coolcamera by ateksoft (not freeware but may be a trial version) to be sure it isn't a camera problem. The push on connector can slip off.

Thank's a lot dude, i'll try to check it later...

May I asking again?
Does the ROM and radio version may have an influence to the front camera function?
As a comparison, i've checked my device information with my friends device and here's the result :
My Dopod 838 Device Info (Front camera doesn't work) :
ROM Version : 3.54.707.3
ROM Date : 07/05/07
Radio Version : 1.47.00.10
Protocol Version : 32.80.7020.20H
And here's my friend's Dopod 838 Device Info (His Front camera function well)
ROM Version : 3.54.707.4
ROM Date : 07/19/07
Radio Version : 1.47.30.10
Protocol Version : 32.80.7020.20H
Please give me an advice... Thanks

Removing XDA2 Camera

Hi,
I have an XDA1 and want to get an XDA2.
However, we aren't allowed cameras on site at work, and despite a long email conversation with the security jobs-worth where I volunteer to super glue a metal plate over the lens and the likes, I'm not allowed to bring an XDA2 to work :x .
So, does anyone know how difficult it would be to open up an XDA2, unsolder and completely remove the camera?
Thanks in advance,
Muddy.
If you look at this pic, it looks like just unplugs. But will they just not still disbelieve you?

Did you take this picture yourself?
Did you have to strip the XDA2 down much?
Cheers,
Muddy.
No I prefer my unit in one piece. Its from the wiki.xda-developers.com and the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5002
Here is a pictorial step by step guide to opening the unit.

Best of luck, and please tell us how you get on. Im sure you are not the only one in this situation.

More Pixels???
Actually, if you can remove the current camera, I wonder if it would be possible to put a better camera in its place..?
Opinions anyone?
It may be possible to plug it in, but I'm not sure the api's could handle it.
This module here appears identical to the xda's, but is 1.3 Mpixel.
From here:

Sounds like a research project for PPCtechs

This is what happens when low-paid morons get to decide on company policy. If you were going to spy, you'd just bring in a clandestine camera (many are so small they are undetectable without a strip-search).
As I said, if they dont believe the metal plate, why would they believe he removed the camera?
Surur
Nice 1.3
Hmmm Very keen on looking into getting the 1.3 installed ,Any one know of an importer for the cam ?
Regards

Carlos,
Sometimes it is best to hide in plain sight.
If you get caught with one of those devices or using it - kinda limits your excuses. If you, like everyone else, have a camera in your phone who would notice you. Now, your camera might be modified by someone to take better photos, but they would never know.

hi
thanx alot surur
i'm so interested in the 1.3 mega pixel camera module and i have some questions about it :
can i replace the one inside the i-mate with this one ?
is it going to work fine with the i-mate ?
from where i can buy it ?
and please i need any information about it
another site about it:
http://www.worldlingo.com/wl/transl...iyota.com/product/cmos/sxga.html&wlg_table=-3
the i-mate will be the best device if i can use this cam
AMmorsy
The built-in-camera is this one: http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/5989-0391EN.pdf
I know nothing about PPC programming, but wouldnt it just be like updating the drivers for the never camera over the old ones? Plus a little more. I am sure someone could make some money out of this!
Why did this discussion stop?
Did you not have any success, or did you damage your gadget?

Camera app from E-Ten M500 on the Magician?!

Ok, this has to be possible or am I crazy of thinking this?! Look at the camera app for the E-Ten M500:

Isn't it possible to get it of the M500 and put it on the Magician, cause this would be a great upgrade over the one we have now. The specs of the M500 are very similar to that of the Magician, so I don't know why it shouldn't work. Any developers outthere who have a clue?!
I don't suppose this would happen
I believe we need the camera app and the drivers as well.. god knows what else... :?
If programing a camera application is that easy ( as for Symbian OS ) we would have seen plenty of these stuff around the net... yet I might be wrong ( and I hope so  )...
it's always a nice idea to have better things for your PPC...
cheers
I understand. But when you see what many developers here have already accomplished (like with WM5.0), getting this camera app to work on a Magician must be a piece of cake, right. Mista Buzz Lightyear or some other developer might want to take a look at it. (I know that every HTC owner on this forum wants a better camera app)
I totally agree..
but none of these developers has M500 with him ( as far as know ) and this complicates things a little bit..
For instance.. if Buzz had a magician.. we would certainly see a WM 5.0 for it... but unfortunately, he does not have one...
so developing ( or creating a hack ) for a camera application from a different producer would be even harder...
I know that every HTC owner on this forum wants a better camera app

Yeah.. I agree
i dont think its possible as the camera hardware from eten and magician is totally different..
but more possible, get the bluetooth programms of the eten, which also uses microsoft bt stack, and try to get it working on the magician. the eten uses the ms bt stack but with another programm on top of th ems bt stack which allows the user to have all those funky profiles

Can TyTN Front camera be used like Universals?

Hey all,
Is there anyway to use the 3G (front) camera to take pics or just to test the cam. The Universal use to be able to do this so I assumed this could as well yet I cant seem to find a way to switch the viewfinder into that Camera.
Cheers
Osiris.
Another question related ... Is it possible to use the back camera for a 3G-video call ?

Yes, when you are on video call there's a button to switch cammeras.
You're absolutely right, I never saw it
Thanks !
Is it possible to use the front camera (videocam) as a webcam with for instance pocket msn or pocket skype? and if yes, how?

Not yet. However, MS Portrait MAY implement support for the TyTN front camera in the future. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291444

Skype on Hermes (XDA Trion)

Hi,
I'm trying to get Skype to work on my XDA Trion over a WiFi connection, but when I try and start a connection, even to the test connection, the program quits. Apparently, this is because only "chat" is supported on the Hermes.
So the big question is.... Has anyone got it to work? Is there an older/newer version of Skype that might support voice comms (and maybe even the camera) on a Hermes?
I am currently using version 2.2 of Skype on WM5.
Thanks in advance.
This one's been beaten to death a bit. The latest version of skype doesn't support the tytn, but the older beta does work ok. I think there is a link to the beta in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311938

This is where I got it from -

Here's a mirror on my server (may go down at odd times) -

I hit the first ones on the Skype site which didn't work then looked on oldversion.com (which doesn't cover the mobile one) and googled it.

The Coolcamera application is a good one to check if the camera is working.
It is possible that the push in connector on the front camera has come loose. I have seen this reported before. So if you have checked all software problems and have tried a hard reset, then you could investigate the camera connection. (It's a fairly major dismantle though and voids any warranty)

Its kind of off topic, I have an att 8525 but noticed i have the connector for the front web cam. Has any one tried hooking up the front web cam on an 8525 and had any success getting it to work? where would be a good place to go about obtaining one of these web cam modules if I wanted to try it out?
