[game] dune 2 (for devs/hackers) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Yes yes, good old retro Dune2. First and the best real-time strategy game.
Ok it's not yet available for PPC q.q (well 'it is' VIA dosbox emulation, BUT not playable)
BUT there is Dune2 clone (beta, but playable) available on the internet.
WITH SOURCE.
Its made in Visual Studio C++ 2007/2008. I got this source working on mine.
Good things about this version of Dune2 and reasons for porting:
Default resolution: 640x480 VGA (but changable in source var)
Does not require right mouse click, only left one. (Stylus !!!)
You only need 2 buttons + left mouse button to play this. (so this surely this would be fully playable on PPC)
You can try this by your self on PC:
D2TM-DEMO4.ZIP
Screenshots (taken by me) incase you're not intrested in trying it.
My c++ programing skills are almost zero..
Sooo.. let me know if anyone intrested in helping me port this ???
If yes I've attached the instructions with a link to the source code.
for the DUNE

well..i think i may stick to emulated sega dune2 version on qvga xscale device(hint hint)
..until someone will make it REAL...

sega lol, how it is even possible w/o mouse?
btw it is really easy to make with a bit skills

hahah this game was great when i was a kid, never played after! but will be awesome to have this on my ppc many years later!

It's basically adapting a program for a device that the program wasn't created for.

Allows you to run dos on PPC "emulates" but does not run very well

well I dont have either skills or time to compile it for PPC.
i'm sure you don't have to be a professional programmer to do that
cmon... 12 people downloaded instuctions how to complile it and none replied?

Hermes 'Demos'

Cast your minds back to the late 80s and early 90s when everybody had an Amiga or Atari. Do you remember the 'demos' that were doing the rounds to show off the latest and greatest hardare?
Often these would be a small program, cramming in huge amount of graphics and music (and endless credits!) to test the latest machines and impress your mates.
Is there something similar to show off the capabilities of the TyTN or other WM5 devices? I'd like to know what this baby can do! I was suitably impressed with the display put on by GXMark, albeit for a few seconds and with no sound.
Anyone fancy writing such a demo?
Christos
WOW.. I'm impressed GXMark. It seems that PPCs can do what iPhone does . . matter of time when someone write some cool eye candy for PPCs. The hardware is well able to support it.

Surely someone other than the makers of GXmark must have done something similar? What about graphics in games - if nobody is aware of any 'demos', can anyone point me in the direction of a game that will impress?
Yeah, I remember as if it where yesterday... I used to collect the best demos for the Amiga and Commodore 64... Phew, those where the days...
I would love to see some demos for the Pocket PC platform alright...
I remember having a couple of demos for my old SonyEricsson P800 smartphone, so why nobody has come up with some ARM based demos???
Here's hoping...
Peace!
RayanMX
The C64 was the best!
I remember the amazing graphical showcases on the front of Commodore Format back in the good old days. If you stood around 10-15 foot away from the screen, you could just about make out the mono bitmap of Cat from Red Dwarf (How'm I lookin? I'm looking good!).
I would love to see a program to show off my PPC too. The best thing I've found for impressing my mates is Tomb Raider, but that's getting on a bit now. Virtual Pool is quite tasty too. Although I'm sure the Tytn could do better!

Well, I'd say there're MUCH better demos out there (not to mention SE doesn't have a demo). Check out the link provided above - even the two oldest (year 2002) titles are FAR better than any games.
(Also note that MilkyTracker isn't a demo but a tracker. I've just pubslished an article on it; search the General forum for it.)

This is now my favourite game on the PC - it's a bit like Lemmings but the crayon drawing is more fun. Thanks!

Anyone know if this game exist??
I'm talking about the famouse Time Crisis...
I know that it is avaible for Symbian...
Here you have a screenschot(Symbian edition):
Does a ppc version exist??
Complete with lightgun and all! lol
Sorry, I know its rude to laugh at your own jokes but the mental image of someone holding a lightgun to a ppc (better yet a HTC kaiser!!) had me chuckling.
that said wouldn't mind seeing it happen!

Wait a moment.....
In the Symbian edition (so for Nokia....) you have to hit the keys to shot....
So there is a grid on the screen an each square corrisponde to a key...(as you can see in the picture)....
So, it would be great if something like this (TOUCHSCREEN) exist...
where you can shot pushing the screen's squares......
oooo that would be so dam cool! sod the squares, pixels! lol
Anyone??
hmmm... apparently not.... there must be a version somewhere? Does anyone know if there is a Playstation emulator anywhere? maybe this is the answer....
it's for the 3d java manager that plays some 3D symbian-based games. It's kind of flaky as far as compatibility goes.

exactly only this will be better 'cause it'll be made by it's users, resulting in endless possibilities.
There is an official version of GH for Win Mobile too. I played only demo, but it was quite good. It of course lacked the option to add custom tracks.

Yeah, that's something that would be avaible in this app, it's the users who choose what tracks the game will contain through requesting them.
And hopefully this version will work for VGA!
I think a Beats-like game (Beats, the PSP game) would have far more potencial. There you have space to inovate, instead of just making a custom guitar hero. Which leads me to the gameplay.. Tapping the notes as they come? :S Hardly "guitar-ish"! Especially not having multitouch...
If you want to brainstorm on what could be a good music game for WM devices, I'm all up to it. If it comes down to something interesting I'll even help coding it, provided someone else does some neat neat graphics

thanks i checked "beats" out and i can't say that i understood much of it, i catched that you tap the psp buttons to hit the "notes" though. didn't look very fun compared to guitar hero or tap tap revenge if u ask me.
but sure, i can "brainstorm" on what could be a good wm music game, if ur not interested in this concept. one of my reasons for this was to annoy my iPhone friend who's playing tap tap revenge.. and to contribute to the community ofc

Beats is similar to Guitar Hero with the change that you don't play just the guitar notes but every major peak in the mp3's channel data. What that means is you can put any mp3 you want and Beats will analyze it and create a game level for you.
Also, you'll probably tap to the rythm of the drums where their the loudest thing, and hop back to guitar if there's a solo... That sort of thing. I don't know tap tap revenge but I'll look into it.
I meant you, yes, if you're good with graphics
Keep in mind I'm a student so I have a tight schedule, I have other projects (one of which I plan to post here given some time) and I'm not familiar with DirectDraw calls. I won't commit right now to make this happen, but I think in time it's possible to work something out if you still need a developer.
Truth is, I'd love to see a good music game for our phones, but can't grasp the spectacular idea behind it on my own right now

Please note this is more alpha testing than beta, the software is in early development phase and we're currently testing the graphics engine on the different devices and resolutions. QVGA is currently well supported (I own one!) but VGA is giving some problems. We have to triage those problems in order to fix them.
W resolutions are not up to date, because they take a little more work. The way we tackle those devices is still not clear. They have a different aspect ratio which makes me (personally) want to just add a bar to the top of the screen

[Q] Is there a N64 Emulator for Android?

That is awesome! I would pay $30 for this app. Yongzh has said he is working on it for android. He created many of the current emulators, and in my opinion, the best ones. I imagine that like the PSX4droid app he made, not all ROM's will work on it, but even if I could run just a few of my favorite classics. I am thinking GoldenEye, MarioKart 64, Starfox 64, and Zelda.
These emulators, plus an AOSP rom with bluetooth fixed, wiimote controller app. That would really pass time at work, on a plane, in a hotel, on vacation with the inlaws. I can't wait.

ZodTtd, the dev of psx4droid, is in the middle of making one.
A few days ago he posted on twitter saying that he is experiencing a bug where nothing shows up on the screen. I'd imagine once he solves this, a few tweaks will be made then he will probably hand it over to Yong Zhang for him to work his magic (control overlay, settings etc)
This is exactly what happened with psx4droid
Maybe would should start a bounty to help move this along.
15$ Here
-decent fps with no sound
-bluetooth gamepad support
I don't have any java experience, but I have reasonable experience in other programming languages. When I get the time, I may take a look at porting it. If the full source code is available, should be hugely difficult to port. It'll be the optimisation that'll be difficult.
