OK so i am new to Android, my previous phone was a Windows Mobile HTC SPV m3100, cracking phone until i killed it
I am now setting up my new HTC Magic, for my carrier, but I am getting the same problem with my HTC Magic as i did with the m3100 regarding MMS images, the problem is the handset is not recognized with my carrier (UK based - O2)
So when i send a mms from another handset to my phone, because its unrecognized with o2, they send me the smallest image possible.
With my old m3100, i was using a cooked ROM (which caused ident at o2 to fail), i had to alter the user agent in the registry settings to fool o2 into thinking my phone was a different (supported) handset which gave me decent size mms.
I would alter the UA like this (after i downloaded a registry editor for WM)
HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader\x-wap-Profile
Can i do the same with Andriod?
Thanks in advance
anyone? Its quite annoying having tiny MMS images.
This is not windows, there is no such thing as a registry.

Errrmm yes i do know that!!!
What i am asking is if the user agent can be changed, and if there is something similar to registry in Android.
Next time Cheesebaron, why bother replying if you only going to make stupid lame comments?

Try this. It seems that this might help you.
Next time maybe use the search function...

hi guys, i have a problem. when i receive mms messages, the pictures are sooooo tiny. i have it set to download manually and when i look at the msg details it'll say that the msg is 100+ kbs in size but after it finishes downloading, the picture is only about 5kb in size. same thing goes for short audio files(if a person sends me a 10-15sec recording, i only receive a 5sec clip of it). have any of you the same problem? i've looked through all my settings and can't find anything that would help if i changed them so i come to all you kind ppl. please help. thanks in advance
I think this topic came up around 2 weeks ago on XperiaX1.net, and I think they concluded it was a network (carrier/provider) setting. Might be worth a look.
thats what i first thought but with my n95 and all my previous ericssons, it's never been an issue. i've always received everything in full. but perhaps i have some incorrect mms server settings on this phone. i'll look into it. thanks for the quick reply
The phone speaks to your network when downloading the message and your network is going "I have no idea what this phone is" so it sends down the small version. If you search there was a regedit which tricked the network in to thinking you were a different model.
LOL, the answer to your question is literally 11 threads down!

There was one guy who had this problem over at esato and he fixed it. This is hidden in a rather long genieric thread so i'll just copy his post here...
"Basically, it has something to do with the phone not being set up, or directing to the correct 'profile' with the network operator. For example, my settings were directing to the Taiwan HTC website for some reason. Because O2 didn't have these settings, it was defaulting the MMS settings to how they were when MMS was first introduced.
The solution is basically using a program like PHM Registry Editor to change the profile, so it directs to the correct details. However, as there aren't any specific Xperia ones yet, you can have it use those of another phone. In my case, I have used the N95 settings, as these are ones set up on O2.
So, in the reg editor you need to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Arcsoft MMS UA - Config - mm1 - WspHeader
There will be 6 strings in this part of the registry. You just need to edit the 'User-Agent' profile to:
NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
And the 'Profile' string to:
http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NN95-1r100.xml
You don't need to reboot. And that should get the pics coming through at the correct size.
Hope this helps if anyone is having the same problem."

Does anyone have the full settings (cab or otherwise) for a TP2 on UK T-Mobile please?
I've tried e-mailing T-Mobile but they're next to useless.
Thanks very much.
t-mobile cab settings file
try this cab
Hi ScouseMartin,
Thanks, been after these for a while!
Much appreciated.
SW ;o)
glad it worked for you, anyway us scousers have to look after each other,if anybody wants the complete uk internet settings cabs i have them all, just send me a PM. I have posted them on this site before but it was ages ago and i cant remember where
Thanks for the settings, but I'm still having problems with YouTube and Windows Update which say there's no connection. However they both work on WiFi. Strangely Opera works fine on the data connection!
It's probably something I've missed - anyone any ideas?
Thanks.
Would anyone have a similar cab for o2 settings?

there is an app on the phone for setting this.
Neil, my Touch Pro 2 was originally Orange and the app will only do a full set-tup for Orange Network.
I appreciate this is an age-old TP2 query, but i still need it!! lol
Ive managed to get the internet going ok, but mms have never worked and ive tried every scenario on the net i can find.
So yet again- can anyone give me mms settings (plus brief guideline, just to try and ascertain where ive been going wrong)????
I would like to be able to get and send media messages again!!!
thank you. you save what little hair i have.tmobile monkeys are useless wasted 3 days! with this cab my touch pro 2 is ALL GOOD!
I did post in the sub forum, this under my specific handset (HTC Magic) but not getting much luck so moving to here for some more hits!

hey all,
im using a leo from TMob. i've unlocked it to take any chip but i can't see how to update the GPRS/3G settings because of the above message when looking at settings.
any ideas?
cheers
S
OMG , sounds like a nasty little trick of Tmob. to prevent people from using other networks after a sim-unlock.
But no fear. If I were you I'd flash the WWE Version of the non-branded ROM's, to get rid of all that is TMobile.
Other option would be to get help finding the correct registry keys and disable this message somehow. Must be do-able.
EDIT : can you delete that connection alltogether and create a new one?
T-Mobile do this to all of their winmo handsets.... i really dont see the point!
It's the corporate suckers. Always.
hi,
i found this out also after receiving my hd2 from them.
some say you can use the (i dont know what it is called in english) 'office network' setting (the one under the funny text from tmob) to connet to another provider. or by changing regkey or restoring backups from regular hd2's.
but for the point that this was not the only 'enhancement' t-(in)mobile has done to the device (no youtube player, bing, msnmessenger etc.) i preffer to reflash my device to the standard htc rom, how to do this can be found here in this fine thread .
i hope that helps mad.
ps. the german hd2's come without any sim or netlock, its only the manipulated registry for the internet connection.
Ok...this is my first ever post on this forum, so please don't shout at me if the answer is "easy" to find. I've been looking and looking and I've finally decided to post a question.
Is there a fix, for the tiny, thumbnail size mms pictures I receive on my HD2, which is running Coredroid's rom (previously WM 6.5)?
My phone provider is not TMOUS, not T-Mobile, it is O2 in the UK.
I would be thrilled if anybody could help. I really, really like this rom and I want to be able to send and receive properly sized MMS pics.
Thank you.
O2 don't recognise the default android mms useragent.
On cm7 roms there's an mms useragent setting in messaging, settings, extra settings,, but I don't think its there in all roms. I set mine to spoof an n95, works fine.

That sounds like a great solution. Unfortunately, I don't think I have a cm7 rom and I really want to sort the mms size out. Maybe I'll have to re-flash with a different rom, which seems a shame, cos I am thrilled with this one, after using WM6.5.
Thanks for your input.
