USB Radio Transmitter

Does anyone know of a Kaiser compatable radio transmitter for the Kaiser so I can use it like an itrip and play my tunes from my kaiser in my car over a radio frequency?

Any old usb/headphone splitter will allow you to do this, as the FM transmitter element simply plugs into the 3.5mm headphone jack - FM transmitters are, notoriously, pants though but if its your only option, I would suggest getting your own splitter and then getting a different FM transmitter that has digital tuning, so you can select any frequency, and not be limited to 4.

You know what I am looking for... I would love to see a Bluetooth FM Transmitter. Then you can just enter your car, and wirelessly play your music through your phone. Anyone know if these even exist? I did a brief google search but it looked like everything was either a car kit for hands free talking or just people wishing they had one kind of like me.

Universal Belkin adapter.
Personally I use the belkin 3.5 inch universal FM transmitter.
the audio quality isnt grand but its very passable.

I've been using that for my PSP and zune for a while now and i'll be using it
with my kaiser as soon as I get my miniUSB to 3.5 adapter in the mail.

I'm wanting to do the same thing but have absolutely no technical knowledge about this kind of thing.
I have a Mk4 VW Golf with the standard VW fit, quad speakers radio.
What products would I need to buy to get my Kaiser playing through the car speakers, and, how would I need to set it up.

I use an iTech-clip connected to a cassete player adapter normally for a walkman. Gives me BT stereo music and when clipped to the sunvisor acts as a hands-free automatically cutting off the music when a call comes in.

It took me a while to track one down! But I finally did and I just purchased on off ebay... It is from a brand called Scosche. It sells new for US$90.
It functions as a Bluetooth Reciever (for bluetooth devices with Audio Push, such as the Keiser...) and as a hands free. It plugs into the car power, and I understand it has a built in battery for portability. I should be receiving it later next week, I'll update on how it works

I was one of the first in the states to get the venturi and have been using it for several weeks now. The quality is great and it is the only device I know of that transmits caller ID to the FM radio via RBDS. It is not the cheapest, but only thing i know that transmits FM, charges phone, and does bluetooth calling/stereo. (not to mention it works flawlessly with the Tilt/kaiser)

I have a Monster Icarplay for the ipod. I am wondering if there's any way of modding it to use on my kaiser. I know the ipod connecter is just a modified usb connector - so I am wondering there is some sort of adapter that goes from ipod connecter to regular usb. I don't think I can just snip off the end and solder in a reg. usb because there are controles on the ipod connecter plug. Any thoughts?

I'm browsing around trying to decide what unit to purchase. The thing I like about the Motorola is I do not have to plug it into my cigarette lighter (other than for a charge, of course).
But, I had purchased a Motorola speaker phone a couple years ago and the sound quality for the person on the other end was pretty bad. With this sound quality for me as the listener would probably be OK, as it would go through the radio.
Has anyone used one of these yet that can report back?
The positive feedback from Venturi on the Verizon one sounds good.

what I want to know is ...
how does it transmit to the FM wirelessly though ???
and if there's another radio nearby happened to be scanning stations ... will it also pick up my private conversation ??
I can understand when this is routed through the cigarette lighter plug ... but wireless ??? and they don't specify the type of FM radio ... so I just assumed any regular car FM stereo ...
anyone for answers ???

Good questions.
It seems to me that it transmits to the FM device via BlueTooth; then the FM device transmits to the radio over FM frequency.
And I assume that if someone in a car nearby (I don't think it will transmit very far) happens to tune the the same FM frequency you are using, that they in fact would pickup your conversations.
I would like to be able to have the bluetooth transmit my stereo to my radio, and if I have on a BT headset, have my conversations go there. But, I'm not sure that is possible.

I've been hunting but haven't found this yet. Is there any kind of antenna that plugs into the HTC mini-port but let's you listen to the FM radio through the phone speaker instead of headphones?

I also wanted to listen to radio on Bluetooth headphones so I ended up getting a D-Clip Radio. It works great too and I reckon the radio reception on this device is much better than that of the Touch Pro. You can also use any headset of your choosing as long as it has a standard 3.5mm audio jack.

Likewise I was looking for a device to plug into the MiniUSB port (without messy cords) and use my bluetooth to listen to the radio. I have seen such a device for i-phone which plugs into i-phone and enable radio listening.

You can actually choose output from the radio software. Needs the antenna but might solve your problem

i was under the impression that it had fm radio capability. Just sprint 86'd it because it competes with sprint radio?

I'd also like to know if that plug works. Could you cut the wire off just past the mini-usb plug and it still serve as an antenna? I'm looking for something very small to plug in the bottom with no wires.

I was thinking the same thing
Maybe I'll try with an old broken cable..

I went to radioshack the other day and tried to do this with a motorola adapter cable like the one pictured above. When I started the Fmradio software I still got the message to plug in a headset. So there must be something in the miniusb plug or in-line with the headset that tells the Fuze it has an antenna.
Or perhaps the pinout was just wrong with the motorola adapter. I'm thinking someone could make a tiny miniusb plug that when installed would be flush, or almost flush, with the bottom of the Fuze. Maybe some type of resistor would need to be in the small plug to trick the phone into thinking a wired headset is plugged in?

I'm pretty sure the phone needs at least some wire to act as an antenna. It's not the headset that is required or there wouldn't be the option to listen via the loudspeaker.

what i use to get my fm radio is the dongle that came with my phone and its offical from HTC, works great to, i just plug it in, and plug in my regular ipod headphone and it works, the bad about it is, this dongle is so dam big

Yea.. it works with the dongle and regular headphones, but that only solves the problem of not having USB headphones..

I use a USB to 3.5mm adapter
I got my adapter at a Palm store in ATL airport, but Seidio makes different adapters. Once I plug in a standard headset it works great. You can try http://www.seidioonline.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=2940 but many other vendors sell this item (try ebay).

Yep. Though that doesn't mean you can't make a flush plug in antenna... Just would need to be a small plate with the antenna printed onto it. Perhaps with the edges moulded up around the sides a little to keep it from snapping the connector.
Only trouble is the market would be too small for commercially making it, and good like DIYing something like that.

It is a good idea for DIY. Keep in mind that the reception quality depends on the material the "antenna" is made of. I get mediocre reception with some thinly-wired, cheap little earbuds. However, I get GREAT reception when I plug in the audio out line (which is nice and thick) to my computer speakers!

I bought a 3.5mm Extusb adapter for my Raphael on ebay. It acts like an antenna, but the signal isn't quite that well.
So I guess you need a cable or something to get enough signal for good radioreception.

HD FM Radio - Antenna?

how does the FM Radio work on the HD? Do you need to use the headset as antenna, like on the polaris? Or does the HD have built in antennas?

And it has to be the one that comes in the box. You can't use a Touch or Diamond headset. Which I thought was odd...
But yah, the 3.whatever mm jack in the top of the handset is used for the antenna.

Phew, thanks for the correction. I want to use my own better set of headphones and still use the radio.

And it works fine with a 3.5 <> 3.5 lead (for use to plug into a car radio or audio input) using the loudspeaker.
So in a strong signal area, it will work fine with 3.5 plug + short wire

The radio program is really nice you can change between speaker/phones with one easy finger friendly button.

What can you say about the quality from the fm Radio. I can´t get a RDS Signal, or it is still available only for 2 - 3 seconds.

Even using a stereo plug radio works fine. Then the only choice is explicitly set device speakers for radio. Even in case of active AD2P connection, the sound is only played through device speakers or wired headphones.
Normally when using bluetooth headphones I insert a 3.5 Jack(just the jack no headphones on it) to make sure that device speakers will not start banging if the bluetooth headphones run out of battery or get disconnected for some reason. And in city center this seems to be enough to make radio work for certain channels though since bt is not used, not much benefit in having it.

Radio without headphones?

Is it possible to get the radio to run without having to plug in the headphones?
I know they act as an antenna but I'd still like to be able to demo the device and try for local radio in strong signal areas without having to carry round a set of headphones.

if you use HD tweak you van set the audio booster on, if thats on, you wont get the message that your headset must be plugged in, but i hardly get a reception then

It should work, it seems to be using the same pinout as HD headphone, assuming the Mic still doubles as antenna, like before on ExtUSB

Just tried it with a 3.5 mini-extension cable (about 10cm long with a 3.5 plug on one end and a 3.5 socket on the other).
Works fine ! Reception is perhaps a little weaker.

A 3.5mm plug with some thin black insulated wire connected to it should make a nice unobtrusive antenna.

Thanks for this idea! I cut an old (bad and low-cost) earphone, plugged-in the 3.5-connector (with a cable of about 45 cm), activated audio booster with HD Tweak and - voila!: I'm able to hear FM Radio!
I think it's useful when you want to hear news for a short time; to hear music earphones are better of course!

No - bluetooth does not seem to work here. I tried this with a 3.5 extension. I could get sound out of the speaker no problem but no chance on diverting it to bluetooth.
We probably need some app to make that work.

Could somebody try this apps? To play radio through bluetooth is quite imoprtant feature for me, I use to listen to radio on bicycle on my sporty bt headset. Thank you.

EDIT: found out if you put in a regular 3.5mm headphone, the FM transmitter should also work guess you can do it any way you want!

Yeah, I just tried it on a Sony headset and an ipod headphone set and they both triggered the FM to work. I think the FM can be triggered with software to work but the reception will be crappy without extra wire coming out to catch the signal.

Great experiment ! Easy solution ! Can now uninstall all internet-radio apps and get my local radio station w/o headset.

Personally I think it's just a gimmic to buy HTC's headset, don't fall for it guys! Use your own equipment that will sound better and fit more comfortably!

I could only pick up a couple of local stations like this,and we have a huge transmitter only a few miles away.
Went back to a full length set of headphones and did a rescan
and they were all back....

The whole wire acts like an antenna. There is no dedicated antenna for FM. That's how FM works since it's short range and hig frequency unlike the older AM low freq signals which need a more specialised antenna.
For good FM reception, a good wire will suffice.
