I seem to be collecting a set of 'issues' with my new Hero.
Can anyone tell me what the 'SIM Toolkit' does? On my device, when I start this app, I get a screen with a 'Get settings' item. If I press the 'Get Settings' there is a brief syncing symbol appears near the top of the page, but then I get a notification from "2020" which I assume is comming from my network (O2) saying...
"Unfortunately we had problems dealing with your request for settings. Please contact customer service."
Any Idea what's causing this? what does SIM Toolkit do?
Regards,
Glenn

hello.
HELP ME!
I have done a search for this but it comes back with stuff I have tried so here we go.
When I send a text I get a message back saying "Message undeliverable. make sure the text message address was entered correctly and try again"
So far I have checked the service centre and that is right, then I checked the area code and that is right.
When I put my phone near a speaker I can hear it sending but it has been like this for two days!
Any ideas what this could be?
Oh I have done a soft and hard reset and no change, I am an O2 and have done nothing to this phone for about a month now so no reason why it should not send texts. I can recieve calls, mms, and phone calls to include all GPRS data.
thanks
ok its sorted.
But I am going to leave something here to help others.
If you have the same problem and you are with o2 then what you need to do is check you area code in the contacts this is under options. next check your account service number if this is all correct...
have you had your number changed from another account? if so then o2 have not changed your account properly and you have been banned from the contract service number, try using the pay as you go service number.
hope this helps
I've got an MDA Vario with T-Mobile, and when I first joined T-Mobile I was given a temporary number until my old number (then with O2) switched over to T-Mobile. This was all ages ago and went well, but when I look at received text messages, it still displays the old temporary number in the 'To' field. Although it's not a big deal (when I send messages or call the correct number displays), is there a way to change / update this? Is the old temporary number somehow written into the chip? Thanks
Well, thats because the texts were "sent" to your temporary number. It really isn't an issue or something you can change, because the text was sent to THAT number, not your real one.
I guess if it bothers you that much you could get the txts re-sent to you now you have your real number back..
No they weren't. They were sent, and are being sent to my current number, and the phone still displays the temp one that was initially issued with my new sim. No one ever knew the temp number or sent anything to it, it's a display issue.
Ah sorry I misunderstood. You could try going to Programs -> "Sim Manager" and choosing Tools -> List of own numbers
That could be the problem.
I had exactly the same issue...I spoke to TMob customer services and they said the only way to fix this is to send a new SIM coded with the ported number. They then said that this would cost £10 as there was nothing actually wrong with the old SIM. I argued the toss and they sent me a new SIM for free which fixed the problem.
check my programs, don't have a sim manager, is it standard?
Ah, it came with my O2 XDA Mini S.
I don't know how to change it without that. Most normal phones have an "own number" change option, (Sony Ericsson, Nokia) so if you have one of those hanging around try using that to change it and seeing if that helps. However, the other poster may be correct in saying its hard-coded for T-Mobile users.
Thanks guys. ran a search for sim in help, and it actually mentions sim manager, so find it weird that it's not included!! I guess I'll just have to live with it, or maybe I'll contact T-Mobile...

Checked the manual, sim manager can be accessed by going into programs, contacts (you get the choice of conacts or sim manager). Surely enough, it can che changed from there, and texts now arrive with the correct number displayed. Thanks lozzd
No problems glad you found it.

Hi!
I'm extremely happy upgrading from Windows Mobile to Android! But when I go into the settings, it can't find "My phone number" and it can't be set, either. Googling indicates it could be set in an older phone, but I've tried that without success.
Googling also says a lot about the mobile operator "pushing" this info to the SIM card. But my operators support didn't understand neither the problem nor any solution. They just claim everything is OK on their side...
Thanks for any hints!
Best regards,
Knut
settings - call settings - scroll way down to 'additional settings' - my phone number.
At least thats where it is on cm7 roms.
If you also add yourself as a contact using that same number, with a contact pic, it will use that contact pick for you in txt message threads once the 'my phone number' is set.
With the recent OS releases for the Epic, we've lost functionality to auto-reject calls or send them straight to voicemail. I searched here, but didn't find much. With all the "political survey" calls I've been getting lately, I figured there's got to be some way to do this, and for free.
There is.
First, you'll need "Any Cut" from the market. Create a "new shortcut" and then select "activity". Look for an activity called "call settings". Most likely there'll be two. The first one worked on my phone, I had to pick the second on my wife's phone, so this is a bit of a trial and error process. The one you want, when clicked, will give you a screen that has "All Calls" at the top.
For whatever reason, this is the menu that's hidden in the OS. It's there, but you just can't get to it...or at least I didn't find a way. At any rate, click on "all calls" and look for the "auto reject" selection, which is the second one. You'll have to click on "enable auto reject". Then you can start entering numbers into the "auto reject list". Hit the menu button to add numbers. The format for the numbers doesn't contain dashes, so for 123-456-7890, you'd enter 1234567890.
So, now when a number calls you, your device won't ring, you'll get a momentary dialog box that tells you a call was auto-rejected and they get sent straight to voicemail.
Enjoy!

For those who don't use google voice, this is great! Thanks!
I use mr number in play store. Its free and easy to setup. You can also set to block text.
If you don't want to install Mr. Number due to bloat of that particular app, then you can try the below paid app if rooted.

You can also achieve the same thing by logging into your account on Sprint website.
Go to "My preferences" tab and on the bottom in the section "Limits and permissions" you'll find Block Voice, Block Texts etc.

This is what I did when I got sick of my cable co.'s sales calls. It works well. That's a relief too because when I tried this feature before (on a different rom/radio, maybe that affected it?) it wouldn't allow any calls in or out while on roaming when used. But now it's fine.
