I've been thinking of getting a touchscreen smartphone for a while now, and the Touch HD is the one that I like the best so far, but it doesn't have any formal USA Support, so I have a few question I'd like to ask about owning this phone while living in America.
1. I heard 3G works in the U.S. with the T8285. I live in Los Angeles, but I'm not sure if the T8285 3G Network will work in my area. So if someone knows that would be nice.
2. AT&T would be my primary Network. I think this would be the best network to choose for this phone right??
3. Is there anything (else) that I can't get/do with the Touch HD in America, that I would in Europe??
4. What are some Pros/Cons of having a Touch HD in America.
5. What are the price range of the Touch HD?? I'd like to pay a maximum of $400.
search this forum using "Touch HD 850 3G in the USA" and you'll find 2-3 threads that will answer your questions... that is, questions 1-4. on #5, a new HD will probably set you back about $800, used you're still looking at $570-$700.

As I was searching the web looking for a smart phone to replace my old one and from this seller in England that claims he has the US 3G Touch HD in physical stock and ready to ship. I just wanted to check this as I saw everywhere that HTC had no plan on making a US 3G compatible Touch HD. Can someone confirm this? As I'm so tempted to buy it. Thanks and I wait your response.
There is no HTC HD 3G for the USA yet...just Edge network bands!
would you believe the seller over all the other internet references saying there is no US 3G Touch HD device? the phone will work with US carriers and provide EDGE service, but not 3G.
that's what I thought.
So I guess this seller is not well notified of the specs. of the phone?
and I should steer clear? but I would love to get my hands on a HD
too bad... and it's really sad...
how I need to decide between X1a and Touch Pro... recommandations?
I'm just a casual user with average data useage. In Canada with Rogers, Thanks and I wait your response
Since you're seriously trying to decide, read this thread. The views inside along with others, with my desire for a big screen phone, has lead me to purchase a new HD, which will be here wednesday, even though it doesn't have 3g. It all depends on what you want. But, there are several threads of people asking the same things as you, and getting serious answers. There aren't that many HD threads. You should look through some and educate yourself
I am a TILT Owner but would like to upgrade to the Touch HD..but I have a few questions first. Could anyone answer the below for me...I would really appreciate your assistance.
Question #-1: How can I get my hands on one of these? I called HTC and they stated that this is not offered in the US.
Question #-2: Now should I be able to get my hands on this device..would the radio work on T-Mobile's Network?
Question #-3: What would be the potential cost? I can unlock it myself.
And do you know if I could swap the Radio on that phone for another HTC Touch Device that is domestic should the Radio only give me a 2G signal as oppose to 3G?
I got mine from www.expansys-usa.com and i am using it on tmobiles network. 3g will not work no matter what radio you put on there because i think that is a hardware issue. the phone comes unlocked
I am also using it on T-Mobile USA network. No issues with Edge speeds. I got mine from Clove UK at the very beginning. I actually pre-ordered mine.
I am running cooked ROMs on my device and am not looking back. But I really doubt you can lay your hands on one of these babies... unless you buy one or you know someone who already bought one.
Acutally you know what.. I lied... You can actully chek out the device in Mobile City store in NYC (if you live around the area).
Here is the link: http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/nycstore.asp
Good Luck.
Cool thanks alot chief!
I was a TytnII (Tilt) user and moved to the HD via a short stop with a HTC Touch Pro.
I love the HD and don't miss the keyboard. The screen is fantastic compared to the Tilt.
The HD also has plenty of memory internally and does not have the same challenges as the Tilt.
Hi everyone. I am sure there are serveral threads already on here in which people have asked about the new HD2 and AT&T's 3G signal. I searched around and found tidbits of information here and there so I thought I'd start a new thread and ask some questions that some of us AT&T users here in the states have.
I purchased a Touch HD (T8285) from an Australian seller not too long ago that was branded with the Telstra logo on it and it worked with my AT&T 3G signal here in the US near the Washington DC area.
My question to everyone is, is there a Telstra version of the HD2 currently available that will also work with the AT&T 3G signal? I see that there are a bunch of vendors in the UK that are selling this phone and I believe they won't work with our 3G signal here but is there an Australian one that will?
If so, where can someone buy or preorder it from? Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated.
That's the answers we're waiting for (the other being that whether it'll come to AT&T at all).

Well any news is good news. Unfortunately we don't have any at this time. I read somewhere that Telstra is currently testing this phone on their Next G network and is hoping to have it Q1 of 2010 which is the same timeframe as when T-Mobile is going to get it. I can't wait that long.
I Live in the US - Could not Wait Bought HD2 Euro Version - WOW
Couldn't wait until Q1-Q4 of 2010... The phone is unbelievably fast. So fast that being on a Slow EDGE connection speed and toggling to WiFi is almost not noticeable? Windows 6.5 runs really nice, there is absolutely no lag(AT ALL). A Running talley of open applications without lag is 40 apps. Big hitters like you-Tub, GoogleMaps, Acrobat, Opera, MorphGear, TCMP player, IE, TombRaider 3d. Digital Compass, Mobile Market Place, Remote Desktop, Bing... they just all run and the phone is super snappy? I have not had the phone crash or had to reset because of the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS freezing up, WHICH IS A WINMO FIRST...
Coming from the Resistive Touch HD screen, I think my only complaint so far is actually the Capacitive touch screen... It takes a second to get used to this. It's not bad but I find myself having to do things a few times...Dude typing with the onscreen keyboard is little hard because of the multiple touch input... Using your finger as apposed to a stylus is a big change...the HD2 doesn't have a stylus so, it's sort of a trial by fire...
Over all the device is crazy awesome, and It will definitely be the Gadget of the Year If it hits US 3G?

There is already a thread on this topic. I am waiting for the Telstra version myself. Interestingly, Telstra has a website. Yeah, who knew? Anyway, they are an amazing resource on which phones are available to Telstra subscribers.
Ok. I have I answer to where you can get the Austrailian HD2 that runs 3G on AT&T. Email [email protected] as they will have this week. Ask for Kevin and say Jeff gave me info and it's yours at the best price anywhere. For real!

They've been available on eBay for a while now. Just make sure you get the right one.

This is already well known and this thread is months old. This is your first post... what made you dig up this old thread and bring it back from the dead?
Also, welcome to xda.
I have already decided that this is the best replacement phone for my ageing P3600, but have a question for anyone who may already be using one on Australia's Telstra Next-G service...
Some news reports last month suggested that Telstra would be a launch partner for the device with HTC in Australia, but as yet there is no word from them officially about it. This would suggest that maybe they are in the process of tweaking (ie. bastardising) the UI with all the usual Telstra bloatware and just haven't got it finished yet. However, there are now no shortage of people selling them unlocked on Fleabay. Only problem is that some are careful to state that the device "may not be compatible with Telstra's Next-G network (HSDPA 850)"?!?
As far as I know Next-G is just Telstra's way of sexing up 3.5G. So is this just sellers trying to cover themselves or is there a real likeliness that the HD mini may actually need tweaking to work properly on that service?
OK - I have found out some info for those who may also be wondering...
Telstra modify all phones they sell in Australia to operate on HSPDA 850 instead of HSPDA 900. So no - that means an imported phone WILL NOT work on Telstra's Next-G service! In fact HTC on their own website show all phones available through Telstra as HSPDA 850, not HSPDA 900.
I purchased the HD Mini/Photon with Win 6.5 in the US 2 weeks ago and it's working fine! The phone was unlocked and listed as quad band..
Hi all
I love my UK HD2 especially since i've put it on Android but unfortunately i have to get rid of it as the limitation on cellular bands is a problem....
Recently moved to Canada where the provider i use (fido/rogers) operates 3G on 850/1900Mhz. The UK HD2 unfortunately does it on 900/2100Mhz so it falls back to the 2G network (GSM) when in Canada which is terrible for speed.
I need a phone which can do 850/1900/2100Mhz which i believe the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and the Dell Streak can do.
Wondered if anyone had any opinions on these android phones or other phones which might suit? I need something as close as poss to the HD2 with the large screen, slim design but something that runs android only. I dont like the Desire Z.
Appreciate any advice
Latz
As far as size goes you can't go wrong with the Dell Streak. Haven't read the reviews on that one yet but I have heard its a good phone. Myself, I would go with the Captivate if thats an option on Fido. Or see what other good Android phones they have. Really though, no matter the choice you'll find support on these boards. Hope your search goes well.
Cheers
Dell streak is big , but too big if you really want to use it as a phone, having personally used it, its way big when using it daily, plus you have to carry it in your hand, Captivate, Bell Vibrant or Desire(screen is small)
id say if u really love yer HD2 then get the telstra T9193 version. thats the same bands as AT&T, rogers, the telstra one works here for me just fine. i just bought mine off ebay thursday and picked it yesterday. guy was locally in chicago couldnt belive it!!
EDIT: i just sent u a link to one being sold in canada right now

When I was in Canada, March 2010, they were having a launch party for the HTC Hero. It had been out in the UK for months, after looking at the selection of phones in Fido, Rogers and Bell, I decided that Canada was at least three months behind the curve. Although, that's just my opinion.
In light of that, I'm unsure if the Desire HD is out in Canada, I'll ask the missus to have a look.
Thanks for all your suggestions, I need something that can do all 3 bands else it won't work when I go back to the UK :-( I think the Telstra version of the HD2 is band limited too so whilst it will work in Canada I'll have the same problem in reverse when I go back to the UK :-(
Why oh why did they limit these phones :-( :-(
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look at all that you guys have suggested so far... I'll be really upset to leave HTC though.... I'll have a 'normal' phone :-(
Nokia N8 Pentaband, thats the phone you want
My Hero worked in the UK and Canada, but it's not a replacement for the HD2 by any means. I don't know what to suggest, except looking for the bands and typing them into Google, with your other specs. I know my friends Desire worked there too (I say Canada, I mean Vancouver specifically).
I'd say go for the Samsung Galaxy S. It's an awesome device and it doesn't seem to be riddled with hardware issues like every HTC phone seems to be lately. I think I'm switching my HD2 to one once I get it back from warranty repairs (third time this year, mind you). The only major thing with the Galaxy S is that the 3rd party software modifications can be a little retarded and the phone doesn't feel as solid physically as a HD2 for example.
Yes I must admit I'm growing more and more partial to the Samsung Galaxy range.... They have a 4" screen so I'm losing a little bit off our HD2 but not too much.
One thing I was concerened about was the benchmarking..... whilst I know this is not something of a real-world concern, it amazed me that the HD2 running Droid from the SD Card could manage no less than 35 MFLOPS compared to the Galaxy's Hummingbird... still spec'd as a 1ghz processor..... managed only 8 MFLOPS?
