USD240 is absolutely fake.
here brand new HD in China is around 527USD. just for reference.

JohnQ is right, I bought mine for around $550 US in Shenzhen about a week ago, $240 is probably either used or a "shanzhai" phone (aka rip off look-a-like).
A note however, do look closely at what you are buying as there aren't any "official" HTC retailers here in China-- where HTC operates under it's Chinese subsidary, "Dopod". Most of the HTC phones in China are brought across the border either from Hong Kong or Taiwan.
I had the store clerk bring me five Touch HDs to try and I picked the best one and haggled with them until they threw in an extra battery.
If you'd rather be sure to get the real thing, I recommend you get it from Hong Kong; it's pretty cheap there too. In China, Dopod also has an identical device also called the Touch HD, however, the difference-- like between all Dopod phones and HTC phones-- is that the Dopod versions don't include Wifi and 3G. Gov't restrictions maybe? :S

HAHA , DOPOD announced HD early this year. you know how much they are selling in the beginning? RMB8288, As exactly the same with its model number T8288, DOPOD is crazy. DOPOD HD doesn't include WIFI/3G

Can get it with 3G and Wifi in China
It is possible to get the Touch HD in here in China with 3G and Wifi....If you buy a Dopod branded phone, it won't have either, but if you go to a mobile store and ask for "shui huo" you can get them. The "shui huo" versions of the phones are usually brought in from Europe then brought across the border (tax free). Don't let the sales staff trick you into paying more for them. These phones are cheaper than the Dopod branded ones and they are exactly the same phone (with more features enabled). As mentioned above, you also have to be aware of fakes, but if you take your time and check out multiple vendors, you should be ok....Always ask to try the phone before you buy it (ALWAYS).
Additionally, it will be extremely difficult to find one with a WWE rom. I usually come on here and flash a WWE rom as soon as I get my phone...Never had a problem...
China has some great deals and some great rip-offs...Just exercise some caution and you should be fine. Test the phone and make sure the Wifi and 3G options work and you should be fine.

newer high-end mobile phones are ALWAYS cheaper in the US/EU than in china. IN fact, everything that is "name brand" or high-end is more expensive in China. THe idea that China is cheaper than the west is just totally wrong these days, when I go back to the USA I stock up on clothes, electronics, etc. as the quality is certain, there are no spy programs or disabled features, and the price is much lower. If you want to buy cheap garbage, it will be cheaper in China, but for anything nice it is MUCH more expensive.

That's not necessarily true...
HTC is a Taiwanese company and they export their products to places all over the world. One of them is Hong Kong, and as we all know, there are no taxes, customs, tariffs, or whatever on imported products there. Thus, electronics are generally cheaper in Hong Kong than they are elsewhere. Also, due to the proximity of Hong Kong and Taiwan, shipping is also cheaper than to the Americas for example, thus further reducing the end-user cost (however this may just be a little bit). Therefore, many of the "shui huo" HTC products brought into China from places like Hong Kong actually end up being cheaper (even more if you haggle and perhaps they'll throw in some goodies too!) than they are elsewhere.
Hope that sheds some light upon this issue.
So now now... don't go around making imperatives like "everything" all the time... hehe

This thread is really helpin me out.
Anyone can point me where to get the best price in Hongkong. I'm particularly looking for HTC Touch Pro CDMA.

You could try Mong Kok/Wang Jiao Computer Centre; you can get some great deals if you haggle...
Check it out. It's near the Ladie's/Women's Market.

The second link look quite fake, that company is only selling 1 item which is the Advantage? um.....pls be careful there. And also as i see it's still on pre-order. You sure they have confirm that price already? In uk, we have lots of website pre-ordering Advantage but the price are all soo different. You might end up paying more or less because those price is not final yet.
I can only say this again: If you want the Advantage so bad, wait until April, it will be out by then, no point doing any pre-order, you will get the machine about the same time anyway. By april, lots of company will be offering Advantage, and you can choose the best deal then.
If you really want to place your pre-order, please take some time to phone up HTC and ask them whether the price is right and is it really available now? I have just phone them and the answer is HTC ADVANTAGE IS NOT OUT AND THE PRICE IS NOT FINAL. so please be careful here...........
thanks i figured it out i removed that second link. filtering out my searches. that second seller was a fraud. thanks for revising me. wait isnt the price htcphonestore.com offering is $1500USD! >.> thats around 800 pounds and i believe thats a final price for now. but some resellers in europe offering 600 pounds. i saw it myself. and this canadian seller also offering 600 pounds. i trust the canadian seller.

The europe reseller are all on pre-order, that's why the price are all not final yet. The canadian seller might just got the price from those website. Because they are all on pre-order and price not fix, no much people is putting interest in ordering them now, they rather wait until the price is confirm. The 600 pounds might comes from DOPOD U1000 as well, since that's the confirm price. I will be surprise if Advantage is only £600. from 3GSM, the HTC people say it's going be about £700, that's what expansys and mobile planet heard as well.
Usually the machine is cheaper in Asia. So Advantage should be more than £600 (DOPOD U1000).

Well you will see its going to stick to £600 when it comes out. So you should return your Dopod and pre-order an Advantage X7500. See you have nothing to loose. you will be without a phone for a month latest but thats fine. You will gain a lot of things out of this. Let me brief you on the specs of the Advantage compared to Ameo and Dopod.
Firstly,
Performance wise all of them are equal
Secondly,
Quality/Body wise Advantage tops because it uses carbon fiber/magnesium alloy and ameo uses aluminum alloy with plastic just like dopod which is not a problem at all because they look like ipod but it just gets scratched up pretty easily. Plus HTC is a much better company than T-Mobile and Dopod since you are dealing with the original manufacturer and not a name branded t-mobile or dopod. HTC maintains its originality and you are getting it first hand instead of dopod changing the entire body and name branding it. So I make a wise choice and you are very impatient so you going to regret it. Anyways i am going to wait for 1 month or over 1 month for more people to start selling black one. i want to feel dopod before i make a decision. ameo looks awesome too. but i will wait for a month or two.

I am tired of people who don't understand the relationship between DOPOD and HTC, they are basically the same company, DOPOD is the sister company of HTC which is responsible of dealing with customer. Just for those people who have not touch bothe Advantage and Dopod u1000, i have played with both and personally, i think the DOPOD U1000 has a better finish and also better quality. But again, that's my personal view.
For support wise, DOPOD will give so much better support than HTC, HTC has just recently start dealing with customer, they are not very good at it, and they are thinking to hand the US and Europe market to DOPOD since they are doing so much better. If you look at HTC Official website, can you see any update or bug fix? NO!!!!! Nothing there, although they make the machine, but they don't fix the problem, you won't get any update from HTC, instead you will get it from DOPOD and T-mobile, they are their own engineer to fix up the problems. That also explain why the DOPOD machine is running smoother than Advantage, the test unit of Advantage still seems buggy, maybe that's the reason of delay.
Anyway, so which machine should you get?
I say this again: if you want black one, go Advantage, don't think more
If your contract is due to end, go Ameo
Any other people (including people who can't wait) should consider Dopod.
Will i return my Dopod and get Advantage? Sure not!

Well sure i would get the dopod... its not like i got something against white.. it just seems stupid to get a keyboard with chinese characters on it and a chinese rom. Also i have never had a HTC phone.. all my phones till now.. branded by O2, Dopod or Orange... so i am really happy to see the HTC logo on my phone ^^

Nice to hear that We will wait for your info tomorrow, keep us inform.
Big difference between HTC Advantage and Dopod U1000
I have been reading this forum, but I have to say there is a big difference in specifications between HTC Advantage and Dopod U1000. If you type www.htc.com you will see under specs the HSDPA/UMTS (2100 MHz for Europe, 850/1900 MHz for USA) this means that if you buy the Europe version it only has 2100 MHZ. However if you type www.dopodasia.com you will find that under specs it comes with 2100MHZ AND 850/1900 MHZ. As such both models are very different. In addition, If you look at the weight, Dopod U1000 is much heavier than the HTC advantage. I was wondering how come nobody noticed this.. As such based on those 2 official websites. These 2 models are different not just the colour. I hope this helps.
In my personal opinion I think that the weight published on the HTC site includes: HTC Advantage + Battery as it clearly says: 359g (with battery)
On the Dopod site, the weight includes: Dopod U1000 + Battery + Keyboard as it says: 375g(With battery and Magnetic Qwerty keypad)
So I think the weight difference is only what is being weighted.
And for the HSDPA/UMTS frequencies I understand that the band of 2100 MHz is the one European Carriers are using, and in the USA the carriers are using 850/1900 MHz band. I don't think HTC will release a version for USA and one for Europe, what about Asia and the rest of America? I think they are just pointing out which band you have to use if you will use it in USA or in Europe.
Please someone correct me if I am wrong.
Regards!

I think when they say "2100 MHz for Europe, 850/1900 MHz for USA" means those are the frequency for these country, it should support both.
The weight difference can be cause by many reason. i have weighted my Dopod and i got 372 which is with battery, and keyboard.
Not sure the advantage weight is including keyboard or not, it doesn't say.
But i think it make kind of sense that DOPOD is heavier (not that much anyway, don't think you will notice it) because the good material it use.
by the way, the keyboard itself weight about 80
Yes. the device support all frequency. they want to say it support2100 in Europe and 850/1900 in USA
many of phone is like it and support all of this.
Don't think HTC made 2 version of Advantage.one for Europe and one for America and ...

Indeed, the HTC X7500/T-Mobile Ameo/Dopod U1000 have Quadband GSM support and Triband UMTS/3G support.
NOT many phones have this feature, to my knowledge only the HTC TyTN and the Palm Treo 750 currently have the same Quadband GSM / Triband UMTS features. Most other UMTS/3G phones on the market have market/UMTS frequency specific setups.
The Nokia N80 for example has a Quadband GSM capability but the UMTS/3G capability is limited to one region only (UMTS 2100 or 1900).
Guys...stop this gossip regarding a difference between the HTC X7500 and the Dopod/T-Mobile units: they are technically identical, there are only differences in the material/colours of the exterior casing used and some ROM differences which have been implemented by HTC too at Dopod/T-Mobile request. Not to forget that Dopod is owned by HTC, just in case some people don't know.

You are wrong there, The rom wasn't done by HTC, DOPOD one is done by Dopod, and T-mobile one is done by T-mobile. HTC are in charge of the hardware design.

I was one of the tester of Advantage, and my brother is one of the most senior engineer in HTC. I am not saying they don't do software, i am talking about the ROM. The base software wasn't even done by HTC , it's done by Microsoft !

Again curious: if you were a tester of the "Advantage", why couldn't you keep it further, why did you go for a Dopod? If your brother is a senior engineer at HTC, why didn't he get you a X7500 since beta testers have already "final" hardware versions in their hands? Because the Dopod is "better"?
I'm also curious why you asked in a post how the quality of the Advantage is...if you were a beta tester, you should know it better than anybody else.
Sorry if my questions are too straight forward, I'm just trying to understand why your information is completely opposed to what I know.

Australian buying HTC Touch HD

For Aussies who are looking to buy HTC Touch HD, you might like to know that a Melbourne based ebayer is now selling it bundled with TomTom6 and 8GB MicroSDHC card.
We also get local warranty for buying it here.
I just won one at about AUD1225, after being unsuccesful in the first attempt (the winning bid was AUD1250). All prices are inclusive of GST.
I thought it is not a bad deal. With the current exchange rate, it actually works out to be cheaper than importing from expansys Singapore assuming we can escape import duty. Depend on the exchage rate, it is quite close to importing to UK.
A couple of sellers are offering to let you buy it without bidding at about AUD 1350, also with TT6 (full license with latest Aussie Map) included.
I thought some of us here might be interested in this info.
Cheers.
thansk for yours info

I think that depends on your conversion rate that your credit card charges you.
The key reasons I bought it here was, at worst there is no significant difference in price (Many actually bidded successfully at got it at lower price than I did), you are assured GST is already included, hence no more import duty, local warranty, and inclusion of Tom Tom 6 (legit copy).
Are you sure you get better than that?
I bought one on the Buy it Now option for $1299. Mainly because he has TomTom with AU maps included. Many others are removing the 8Gb card, some even adding a 2Gb card as an offer having taken the 8Gb out!
I bet you were the bugger who outbid me for the 1225 one! ;-)

Actually, those who bidded later got it a lower price.
We should have conspire and bidded one at a time, then all of us would have got it for 2.50

Well the phone you bought was not Australian stock. Either was mine but i know that. The guy you bought it from basically imported it and is now selling it for a premium. The way i purchased my handset is cutting that middle man out. And since it is not Australian stock it would be interesting to see how this "local warranty" will work out for you. My handset came to under $1000 so i had no gst or import tax. And i have tom tom 7 already so 6 doesn't really appeal to me

Okay, of course, all stocks came from China ultimately. HTC is a Taiwanese company which had manufacturing plants in China. So is Iphone for that matter. IPhone is manufacutred in China by Foxconn, which is another Taiwanese company with factory in China.
Everyone imports and sell for profit. You have paid a differet middleman by buying from Europe, that's all. Unless you buy directly from HTC China, you will have middleman.
I get your point regarding the so called local warranty, though. I hope HTC Australia honor it. If not, this guy might be just be paying for my freight to HTC Hong Kong for servicing I guess.
Have you received your credit card statement, or check it online to find out the conversion rate yet? Usually credit card company's rate is highly unfavourable, so am just curious what did they charge you with.
You're right about TT6. I'm not going to use it either.

Well all up once shipping was paid for i believe it was just under the $1100 mark. I highly doubt that htc will honour that warranty which is why i suggest you contact them asap. Even if my warranty isn't honoured in Austrlia i have a 2 year manufacturer warranty with a store i can send the handset back to. If i need to send it back of course i will pay the cost which is unfortunate. BUT, it is better than having no warranty and no place to send it back to.
i did what davecash did and got mine from Handtec
my credit card came up at AUD$1081
very happy with it so far, exactly what i need for my use. now just gotta suss out some tweaks :-D
Your credit card amount will be an uncertainty especially in this highly volatile time. At the time when I looked at it, I would be paying more than you guys if I had bought it from Handtec.
Another uncertainty was the import duty. Because the amount was bordering around 1000, it may be slightly more than 1000 or slightly less. I would have to live with the possibility of an import duty.
So I decided to bid because I would know for sure what I was going to pay, whereas getting from Handtec I did not know at what exchange rate I would be hit with, and if I would have to pay import duty.
Another thing to bear in mind is, just because you guys paid that amount is no guarentee that another person will be able to get that exchage rate. You know very well that AUssie currency is sliding downward these days.
So, I bidded in ebay.com.au.
I realised that I was impatient and bidded a little higher. This guy got it for much less at AUD1176

If you're able buying for business, there is also the benefit of the 10% GST input tax that you can offset, I think.
This seller advertised himself as operating in Melbourne, and I made a call to Melbourne, and there was a person there speaking to me. So...
I guess that shop might not be around when I need the warranty, but that would be just the same for Handtec I guess.
So, for all who are buying, weigh all the pros and cons and decide for yourself what you think is the best.
Cheers.
I was bidding on some of those phones too. But was outbid at $1200 at the last moment.
I wound up paying full price.
However, I don't mind as it has local warranty, and given my past experiences with smart phones, that is a must. I can also claim GST, and at today's exchange rate, it would be over the magic $1,000 mark if imported directly.
Bought my Xperia X1 and HTC Touch HD through MobiCity. It was shipped from HK via FedEx, next day delivery.
Prefer the HD for those wondering.

Did you pay $1349 for the HD? A little expensive I thought.
I get $2000 a year for mobile phone purchase (I own) ontop of my pay packet. The Sony Experia X1 was rolled over to a Director who wanted it after we finished testing it, his Audi Q7 wouldn't sync correctly using bluetooth with Touch Pro (the X1 syncs perfectly). Never had a problem with HTC's phone and my BMW.
My departments budget includes funding to buy, test and use (or not) mobile phones that we believe may be usable within our organisation.

Lucky you, mate. How does Mobicity do the warranty? Do they have to send it overseas or whill HTC Australia do it?
I bought my HD for $1050 total from handtec but that’s no longer possible with the current exchange rate and handtec's price increase.
Note that if you buy it from a "local" seller and need to send it back for warranty, it is highly likely that they will have to send it back overseas to get your phone fixed/replaced. It's not like they stock up on it and can just give you a replacement sent via express post nor can they send it to HTC Australia. That could result in an unfavorable turnaround time.
Regardless, if you want the phone go buy it because once you have it the price is all forgotten. Don't worry about how much you paid or what others got it for and just enjoy the phone.

Did you have to pay any GST or Duty when it arrived here in Australia ?
Looking to buy one soon.
What do you guys think of this ebay seller?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HTC-Touch-HD...3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:3|39:1|240:1318
$ 1121.00 including postage. He sold the last 10 quickly and the next 20 are up for sale.
Obviously he/she is from HK, Don't know about the Sydney contact, maybe a friend ?

Your email was from a Mary? She told me that her stock has already been all returned to her supplier because the 8GB MicroSDHC and user manual are missing and she has sourced for the unit from another supplier but the stock are yet to arrive. So she currently has no stock. The stock is shipped out of Hong Kong, and not Sydney. Seems that everyone in Australia is advertising that they have stock, then ship the item out of Hong Kong.
I cancelled my order from the last one I ordered 10 days after payment (supposed to arrive from Melbourne 1-2 days after payment). He has has the wrong stock being returned to his supplier story. But I got the full refund.

Hd2 from ebay...

Hey I'm going to get an HD2 VERY soon, was just wondering if anyone purchased one from any sellers located in Hong Kong, and if everything was as expected? I Just don't wanna pay for a fake lol.
I suggest not purchasing from a user with low reps, even if they have 100% feedback. If it is something you consider, ive ordered my htc kaiser from hong kong. They used ups, and guess what? When i recieved the phone i got charged atleast 100 from customs, which wasnt needed.. also the box was beat up.
Hope you´ll enjoy the great feeling to get a brick in a box
I once ordered an Universal (anyone remembering it?) from HK a looong time ago. Actually, I go a badly damaged box, had trouble with german customs and the device was a bad chinese copy of something that was was definitely not an universal. How much are you gonna save compared to a purchase in whereever you live?
Sometimes, that is not an option. It wasn't in my case, because nobody in Panama actually sells the HD2, and I think I might be the only person to own one in the entire country.
I generally dont buy these kind of things from Ebay as ive been stung before (even though the loser got caught and is behind bars .
If you must stick to the power sellers, check their feedback, look for volume sellers who have sold many, use paypal for a little more peace of mind in theory etc. good luck.
If you are based in the UK there are plenty of sellers that have got them as afree upgrade. I bought one for £335 in a sealed box and unlocked it to Orange for £7.20.
Someone I know purchased an iPod from a strange ebayer, with good rep, it arrived, looked just like an iPod, but had some weird OS on it which WASNT iPod and very nasty. Just becareful when buying items like this on ebay.

fake/replica HD2?

Does anyone know if fake or replica ones are now flying around from China (just like iphone)? I found some ebay sellers offering HD2 on a very very low price, but I'm under the impression that they are replicas
If in doubt, don't buy from shady sources. There's a list of official retailers in your country on HTC.com.
Personally, I haven't seen any fakes yet but I guess it's reasonably to assume that there are some out there. btw: The cheap mobile phone offers on eBay are often coupled with a carrier contract, thus the low price.
Just don't do it. There's not that much of a mark-up through official retailers, so unless they're doing you a favour and selling at a loss...
I got burned once, and once was enough when buying a glofiish x800. Never again.
well my budget is limited and i'd really like to get the tmobile version, but they are sold out everywhere in stores and people are marking up the prices on ebay ;(

But if you blow your limited budget on a fake, you won't have anything at all?
yes, i get your point, thanks all for your inputs
can u upload here the image for the fake hd2?
Keep a look out for http://www.dealextreme.com website. They usually have all kind of popular phone knock-offs for a few hundred bucks if you're into those kind of thing.

Anyone from Hong kong

if any of you are from Hong Kong, I need info:
I have gathered about 100+ HTC phones, all broken. Im pretty experienced in repairing that stuff, and have all the service manuals, but I need parts.
My brother is currently in Hong Kong, and He could smuggle them to my country, cause our airport doesnt have security checks on exit (if russians and chinese let you bring a nuke, serbians are going to allow it)
I believe that someone is going to ask me this, so im going to answer it before even asked - I dont want to order it online, cause our customs are retarded (custom prices higher than actual item prices)
so I need 20+ parts for:
HTC Blackstone
HTC HD2
HTC Wildfire
now, the problem: I myself have browsed chinese and HK electronics markets, and it is one hell of a trouble. for example: In Shenzhen, everyone is talking about Hua Qiang Bei being the greatest electronics market, but the truth is that BEST deals and prices, and items themselves are located in the buildings NEXT to the actual Hua Qiang Bei. and it took me 15 days to figure it all out, that is one hell of a place. most of the good chinese Android Tablets could not be found in Hua Qiang Bei, but in the buildings near by.
Is there anyone that could know fort certain, where to buy HTC spare parts in HK ?
Maybe Taiwan, isn't that where they are all from? (The HTC phones )
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Dude, my brother is in HK, and all the spare parts are manufactured in shenzhen/HK for ALL phones, and electronics. I just want to know if there is anyone that knows for a shop that sells spares
isn't smuggling illegal?
