Can anyone shed some light on the whole calendar stuff in Android? My situation is like this:
I have a calendar stored on MS Exchange (which is the calendar I actually use), then there is the calendar in my Google account (never used that before) and to make the party complete there is even a "My Calendar".
Whenever I create a new appointment I MUST change the calendar to which the appointment is saved. If I don't change it, it will go to My Calendar instead of my Exchange calendar.
Is there a way to disable or hide those (in my situation) redundant calendars?
i could not find a way on my rogers branded htc magic. it is one extra setting to change, so for me it is not a big deal as i have become used to it over the last several weeks, but i would prefer to be able to set a default of my choosing too

Hi,
I've just tested the synchronization of Contacts and Calendar with the Hero, and I can't seem to get it to synchronize appointments made on the phone to Outlook on my PC. I have the latest version of HTC Sync (2.0.4) installed. I haven't changed any of the default settings.
Anyone else have the same problem? Please test it.
Thank you.
when you create new events in the phone calendar, you need to attend to the top-most drop-down, which is to which calendar the new event should be added. The choices are "My Calendar", "Outlook", and then your Google Calendars listed.
If you get this wrong, the sync won't work as expected. The default is the first in the list "My Calendar", and I took ages wondering why it wouldn't sync to my Google Calendar, which was the third in the list.
Then I read about this in another thread, set my google cal when creating a new event, and it did sync.
tedious though.
I can second this.
Just change the Calendar to Outlook and it will sync as expected.
Caught me out also!
Thank you sooooo much!
and if you go into "calendars" you can permanently de-select the ones you don't use - all but Google in my case, perhaps all but Outlook in yours - and then it should be fine. And I think the new event calendar selector remembers your last choice anyway.
I have searched and although I can find similar references, my question has not been covered...
I have set up a sync from my Outlook Calendar to my Google calendar, but when I select that calendar on my Hero, it is blank (even though on my computer it is populated.) Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, please?
Thank you, in advance.
My google calendar didnt start working properly (adding in public holidays etc) until I opened it manually added an event on the add event screen changed to the google calendar in the dropdown at the top.
Apart from checking your google account settings on the phone are correct / match the only other thing I can think of is http://www.google.com/sync/pc.html and do it backwards.
Is there a way to get "My Calendar" to sync with my cloud gmail calendar? Selecting my gmail calendar every time I make an entry is a pain and I'd prefer to delete the default "My Calendar" all together. Has anyone found a solution? In googling this it seems a lot of people are having this problem.
Second this. Any way to change default calendar. I found this out the hardway that the default wasn't my gmail calendar. You have to switch it on the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't know if you're rooted, but if u are, just download the nexus one calendar and it eliminate "my calendar" leaving only your gmail calendars. It can be found in the sticky thread in the general section.

The best no-root solution I know of is the web based google calendar for touch-based devices Just go to calendar.google.com from your vibrant, make a bookmark and place the shortcut to the bookmark on your desktop.
As for quickly adding events, I use Calendar Quick Add, which allows easy text-based entry and allows you to choose the default calendar (spam blocker, remove the spaces):

This was great advice, thanks! I didn't realize how highly developed the web-based Google apps had become... (The shortcut even looks nice on the desktop -- a little calendar.)
Not only that...

Not only that, but it supports HTML5 localstorage, so the calendar continues to work if you have no data connection and syncs your changes when one becomes available (the page must be open and displayed for the sync to happen).
When you create a new event, you have to manually select google calendar every single time instead of the default "my calendar". The default one is only local and it doesn't sync with google or outlook.
I hope Samsung will fix this.

This is true of the default calendar app that comes with the phone, but this is NOT true of the web-based calendar (that also supports offline sync) nor is it true of the "calendar quick add" app available in the market. Those two combined are a nice workaround (for me at least).
Work Around
This solution can be used for both root AND non-root devices:
Use a 3rd party cal (i prefer Jorte). Within the application, you can set the default as whichever calendar you prefer (either master gmail calendar or sub-calendar). Hope this helps!
I have managed to set up an Exchange account on my phone to sync my work calendar only.
I have got it working but the problem is that I want it "read only" on the phone so that any items I delete on the phone are not deleted on the server.
I have set it to "keep items on the phone" and also "replace items on phone"
The first time I deleted an item on the phone exchange calendar I found it was also deleted on the server/work calendar (I think it was set to "replace on phone")
But since then no matter what I set it to if I delete something on the phone it seems to sync with the server and then come straight back onto the phone so I can't get rid of it...
In WinMo I could explicitly set how to do the sync but can't seem to do that here - any help please?
Okay maybe a coincidence but just noticed something else.
Anything on the work calendar that had been added (at work) via Outlook - if I delete it from the phone it is also deleted off the calendar.
Anything I add to the work calendar using OWA does this yoyo thing with coming back everytime I try to delete it from the phone....
If your using the exchange it is only being stored/read from the one place.
It doesn't store locally.
I don't know how you can delete from the phone and not the server...
I used to save my outlook calendar as an .ics file and then import it to my google calendar. Now I just use touchdown.
That said... I want my calendar to be exactly the same on my phone as it is on our exchange.
There are some recurring meetings which are useful to keep track of at work but clutter the phone calendar.
I guess I could export but then I would have to keep doing it when new meeting are added.
The different behavior regarding appointment created with outlook and owa is odd but interesting.
I updated from a rooted Defy+ to Quark's CM10-20130307 ROM last week, and just today while trying to add an event to my Calendar I noticed that the phone's calendar option is no longer there! I can add an event, but only if I use my Gmail account Calendar (something I'd really want to avoid).
Is this normal, though? Maybe I lost the phone's Calendar from the moment I changed ROM (if not earlier?). Which .apk should be installed in my phone to handle the phone's calendar? I have Calendar (Calendar.apk, v4.1.2-eng.quarx.20130307.203806), and Calendar Storage (CalendarProvider.apk, v4.1.2-eng.quarx.20130307.203806) installed, it seems these should be sufficient.
The lack of phone's calendar is apparent both in the shipped Calendar and the Calendar application I use (aCalendar). I've found no threads with this same problem....
EDIT:
It turns out that by default Android does NOT come with any local calendars, and the one I had in my Defy+ was a Motorola feature. In order to get a local calendar in my custom ROM I had to install Calendar Manager.
