HTC have just released andofficial ROM upgrade for the European market taking it to 1.39.405.3. I have downloaded and installed this ROM.
I would also like to try some XDA devs ROM's with WM6.5. My question is that if i try some XDA devs ROM's can i use the official ROM that i have just installed in order to go back to a factory spec or do i have to use a factory original from XDA devs in order to make my TD2 boxfresh again.
I would love to experiment if i have a simple way back into a factory ROM but am unsure if i don't.
For cooked roms (form XDA Devs) you'll need hardSPL
Which disables the security, (So you can flash non-official roms)
Then you can flash any rom you want (official or unofficial)
When you really want to go box fresh, You need to reflash a stock rom, and then just run the HardSPL removal application

does this clear out my extended rom and ill need to reflash my wizard again?been having battery issues and wanted to try this.whats the best way to use this?
button rom
official t-mobile rom
blankextrom
custom rom
is this the order to use this?TIA
That order should work, but if your wizard is already unlocked I'd skip the button rom.
after flashing an official rom you dont need to run blankextrom anymore as the official rom cleaned it for you
now if your unlocked(CID), you can flash a rom you like, after costumization, if you are having battery issues that's the time you flash the blankextrom
I wasn't sure if this should go under Rom Development, as it doesn't really relate a cooked ROM.
For a number of reasons, I'd like to load the stock HTC ROM onto my HD. I really appreciate the work that is done by the cooks here but I feel that a lot of the focus is on ROMs that include the latest and greatest functionality (imported from other devices, like the HD2), and I'd rather run the HD with the software that it was designed to run (6.1, TF3D HD (not sense), etc.) so that I know I can rely on everything to function correctly. I'll probably go back to the cooked ROMs eventually, just have different needs right now.
Long story short, is there a way to load the latest stock HTC ROM without removing the current radio I have on my device (1.17 I believe)? Would I need to use a "dumped" version of the ROM, if so, where could I find such a thing?
Also, my device is already security unlocked, etc. I don't want to undo that.

You dont need to revert to stock radio or spl you know just to use a stock rom, you only really need to do that if your sending ur device back under warranty, your best bet is to go to the htc e-club and download the latest us stock rom, and just flash it as normal

Right, but wouldn't loading the stock ROM (shipped) from HTC overwrite the current SPL and radio with the defaults?

Hi,
I have just gone through the beginners guide and I have couple of queries.
1. I am having WM 6.5 original ROM from HTC for my HTC Touch Diamond2 and I am planning to go for cooked ROM. If anything goes wrong with Cooked ROM, Can I able to install again the WM 6.5 original ROM from HTC?
2. Whether cooked ROM have all the applications as which came from original ROM or some of application might not available in cooked ROM?
3. Mainly are we going for Cooked ROM only for look and feel and performance or anyother benefits are there like some extra built-in applications like that..?
4. How can we make sure whether particulat Cooked ROM will fit to our device. For example all the ccoked ROM in "Topaz ROM development" will fit for HTC Touch Diamond2?
Sorry for making so much questions, because it's better to prevent than cure.
and I am very much interested with the cooked ROM. thanks.
Hi, let me try to answer based on my exprerience:
1. Once you have installed Olinex HardSPL1.83 (which is simply NECESSARY), you'll be able to flash ANY ROM of ANY country, cooked or official. Just remember to re-lock the phone (see HardSPL thread) and put an official ROM back if you ever need to send the device back for assistance covered by warranty.
2. Generally, some really useless apps are removed in order to get more free memory but they still are available around , if someone really misses them.
3. Cooked ROMs main advantage is that they have updated apps, less bugs and, as you said, more speed and stability. Cooks generally tend to leave a maximum space available so that single users decide how to use it, but I guess it's also for copyright reasons that no extra apps are added. There are exceptions..for example my ROM contains a very cool app (ported from another HTC device) that allows my phone to act like a WiFi Acces Point, which wasn't there in the official build..Anyway when a ROM is published, cooks always make a list of what was removed, added or updated.
4. Only ROMs listed in their relative phone threads will work. If you own a Touch Diamond 2 (aka Topaz), Topaz forum is the place where you will find working ROMs for it.
Ciao!
thanks for kind reply, sualc.
I bought my LEO from Orange with a contract.I searched the forums but couldn't find a noob friendly "tutorial" on how to backup my factory rom before upgrading to o custom rom, so that I wouldn't void my warranty .
Some someone help would be appreciated.

As far as im aware you can only back up the apps/settings not the rom itself, if you wanted to go back to the Stock rom you would need to download it and flash it again.

I don't know if htc's stoc rom is the same as the one provided by orange.
On my old I900 omnia it was possible to backup the entire rom Using GrandPrix.
I hope there is a similar solution for LEO.
You can download the original HTC Orange ROM from their website and set it aside should it ever become necessary to send the phone back for service.

It's my understanding that after installing HSPL if you need to revert to the original bootloader, you just have to flash a factory ROM and you're there. However, I've never put that to a test just yet. One other thing, be careful on which radio version is in the ROM you're using from HTC because HSPL will only install if your radio version is (if memory serves) 1.42 or earlier.
No reason to back it up - the ROM image is the backup itself, of course without data or user-installed programs. If you're looking for a good backup program, I've been very happy with SPB Backup which has been very reliable and will restore your entire machine, inclusive of data and applications you've installed yourself.
HTH.
ETA: I'd probably download ALL the HTC factory ROMs and patches and keep them on my drive and/or external media just in case the company ever decides that nobody wants those 'old' images anymore and discontinues the hosting of them.

In order to return to the "original ROM" you need to flash your device with THAT ROM.
If you want to revert back to the shipped rom, please visit HTC official support page, pick your device, click download and find the latest ROM.
Follow the instructions from HTC when flashing official ROMs!
You will be fine, just do as the HTC support instructions tells you to, not as described here (when flashing original ROMs that is.)
that update is actually to re-install the whole rom but not to update only some files?
Yes it will, if I remember correctly, they call them a "ROM Update".
I don't know if you can just run the ROM update executable off HTC's website if you have HSPL installed though (Can someone confirm this either way?)
sorry I am new for this..
I found HTC Touch HD HSPL's link to be dowloaded.
But what does hspl means?
