Best / Discounted Tariff on Orange T-mobile for Hero - Hero, G2 Touch General

I'm looking for the best tariff for around the £25-30 mark for the hero. Anyone had any luck getting some discount?

I am a long term customer of orange for my sins! and have a 20% on my line rental. I rang last night and was quoted a upgrade price of £154! I got myself put through to retentions and had soon negotiated £32 contract for 18 months with 1200mins, unlimited text, 500mb data, magic numbers and of course 7 days return policy, there is def room for negotiation, apparently the phone staff can do more than the shops as well.

There should be more room.
I already had the 20% plus I had £5 off web save for panther 45.
Now I have 25% and the web save - for the same mins, txt and data as you, but paid nothing for the phone.

actually ordered one off the tinterwibble orange site.
Dolphin 35 with 500MB data 12 month contract, handset is £100. Worked out all the costs and over all it was £540 about for the yr.
Well I moved house recently and so my card was declined because incorrect billing address on card from the deliver address (THANKS HSBC)
so i called up and re did the card and the womman got me the same deal with the handset at £50! (THANKS HSBC)
so all in all a 12 month contract (400 mins, 500 texts) is 34/month + data + 50 quid handset. so about £510 for the year. which is only about £110 over the sim free price.
Obviously better than getting a pay as you go sim.

Ummm i aint sure what to do now...
Was gonna get a sim free for £400 but the deal above looks rather guuurd...
I didnt want one from Orange cos i thought it had there logo on the front of the phone... but it seems its on the back.
Ummm got some thinking to do...
Would make it easier paying it over 12 months

That's cool, I was going to get sim free for £400 but thank you for your post.
I'm now going to go with Dolphin 35 for £32.31 (12 Months contract) 400 mins and 300 texts.
So it works out at
Total 12 months contract: £387.22
Handset Price: £97.50
Total: £485.22: £85.22 more than sim free price
I'm going to pop the sim out that comes with it and stick the Dolphin 40 sim that i'v already got.
Thank you mate, you have saved me from coughing up £400 in one go

Is anyone waiting to see how much t-mobile offer the g2 for. I'm trying to hold out but I can not wait much longer

o2 simplicity 12 month contract @ £20 pm - 800mins, 1500 texts, unlimited internet. Total £240
- quidco cashback (£100) = £140
+ handset (£400) = £540 unlocked handset and sim only 12 month contract.

I am already an o2 customer paying £20 for 800min, unlimited txt, unlimited data and free o2 to o2 calls...
I have gone for the £42 a month contract, after 6 months i will downgrade to there lowest package that i think is £27 (could be even lower)
42 x 6 = 252
27 x 6 = 162
Phone = Free
Total = £414 give or take a few pennies lol..
So i am happy ...
Shame i have to wait till Weds now tho .... but its my BDay the same day so its alllll gooooood

Do I have a good deal?

Hey guys, I probably have a very good deal, but I just wanted your opinion on this before my 14 days is up.
I got my X1 as an upgrade with O2 in the UK, I paid £100 for the phone itself, then my line rental is £20 / month for 600 mins, 2000 texts and unlimited web, for 18 months. The tariff itself is very good but I am still not sure if the £100 is too much I have paid for the phone itself since I have agreed for a 18 months contract, I was sort of expecting a free phone... but then I had to pay £100 for my old SE W960i which i sadly lost a couple of months ago... And I realized the X1 is quite an expensive handset... what sort of deals do you guys have? Like how much you had to pay for your X1?
Thanks I am indeed having loads of fun with this new toy!
368€ from T-Mobile....
30€ from M1. Contract is on the high side at 60€ monthly (6000 mins, 300 SMS). 20month contract.
I got the handset free, £30 per month - 1000 texts, 600 minutes, unlimited data plan, 18 month contract. Vodafone UK
???
MY FRIEND .. HERE (Bolivia -Latin America) ... FOR A 100 USD PLAN ... YOU HAVE TO PAY 500 USD FOR THE PHONE ... SO .. YOU MADE A GREAT DEAL ... I pay 800 USD in USA for the phone unlock
I'm with O2 UK but through Carphone Warehouse, I told them i was leaving and requested my porting number at which point i was offered the phone for free along with unlimited txt's, calls and web access....all for the grand total of £30pm for 18 months
mhh very good deal !
I signed a 18 month contract with vodafone (uk) in November only a couple of days after the phone had been released.. 900 free minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited web, free phone for 50 pounds a month ..
turns out it is actually way too much .. unlimited texts is pretty cool but I hardly use half the minutes that I ve got .. they told me I ve the option of changing my price plan to something cheaper after 9months so I m probably gonna do that.

At those prices, I'm assuming you got it directly from O2 and not a reseller like CPW.
I got my X1 directly from O2 retentions on an 18 month contract for £24.50/month and a handset price of £97. That includes 600mins, 500txts doubled up to 1000 as it is an online account and unlimited web bolt-on. You've done okay yourself. I'm guessing you've been with O2 a year or two longer than me and built up 40% discount (I only built up 30%) as you seem to have a very similar deal to the one I got last Thursday.
One thing I would recommend though.... make sure you've got insurance for your phone! If your home insurance doesn't cover it, then contact O2 about having your handset covered. I think it is something like £7-£8 a month but covers accidental damage as well as lost or stolen and the excess is £25. I broke the screen on my old XDA Exec a couple of times and got a replacement within 2 working days each time.
I guess my deal is actually very good in the UK market then. Yes I got it directly from O2 retention. This is my 5th or 6th contract with O2 now, so I was told I am getting the absolute max discount I can get. I was trying to knock the price down for the phone to 50, but of course they wouldn't do it, unless I go onto the 45 / month plan which I would end up paying more in 18 months time...
They were gonna give me 21/month with 1000 text, I said no, switching to Orange (I made up a plan that I was being "offered" from Orange), then they said OK, they will match it, this is why I got 20 / month with 2000 texts. Not much different as 2000 texts is way too much... can't even do 500.
I was looking at my old records, I did get 15 off a month before (I have always been on the O2 35), but for some reasons, they didn't give it to me last year, it was because I wanted a 12 months contract, so an extra fiver a month or sth, but worth it, or I would have had to wait for another 6 months for the X1...
Zenith, I got my phone on the same day as you, the first day they said the phone is back in stock, been waiting since Dec last year... now it's out of stock again... lucky us!
27 pounds a month
I got mine at 27 pounds a month with 50 pounds handset price on an 18 month contract last november. Sadly after that I could not get a similar deal for my brother as it got out of stock the very same evening. Just today, I got another 27 pound deal for my brother, thats almosyt 2 months later.
I have been an o2 customer for 12 months and got a 40 percent discount through retention.
Dutch vodafone, 18 euro's a month + internet 9,50 euro.
Phone was free, bought it last week
Free X1i, 1000mins, 100 txts, unlimited data, free weekend calls, £25 per month. O2 UK upgrade.

Hi Guys, my deal was a shop purchase upgrading after two previous 18 month contracts with uk vodafone. Initially they offered the same deal but the handset was £35, but when I kicked up about being a 3-4 year vodafone customer with a £40 bill every month they worked their magic and gave it to me. Im guessing the fact that I've spent between £1500 - £2000 with them previously gave me a good deal

Hi. Sorry for the delay! I've been with O2 since 1999. The deal I got was the same as my previous one.

new 02 pay as you go plan

apparently 02 uk have a new pay as
you go price plan that offers unlimited internet an texts for topping up
15pounds a month went into my local branch an they confirmed yes the internet is unlimited so just wandering if you guys know of any better pay as you go deal cause I am not really worried about calls as texts and internet do me good .
The £15 is an introductory price.
It'll jump to £30 for unlimited after that.
You'd be better off with Virgin - they do unlimited texts and web for £20.
I'm on 02 Simplicy £19.58 a month for free internet, 600 calls, 600 texts, 12 month contract.
I signed up through QuidCo (after hearing about it on here), which then gave me £100 cashback = my phone bill is = £140 a year = £12 a month.
Given that I was on Orange £40 a month, and just three months into an 18-month contract (and then cancelled my contract due to T+C changes), I'm very pleased.
(Then karma came in the shape of someone spilling beer on my phone, meaning whatever battery I try lasts just six hours...)
I think the QuidCo deal has ended but there might be a new one again.
not really

I was in a very similar position ie Orange contract etc.
I got out of the contract and am now on O2 Simplicity approx £20/month 600 mins 600 txt choice of free bolt on. I chose unlimited internet.
My contract is only a 30 day rolling contract though. I seem to remember that signing up on the web gave 1200 txt though. I don't text too much so am not bothered about this.
I'm very pleased, great value and can cancel with only 30 days notice when a new phone comes out that catches my eye.
Comparing SIMplicity plans to PAYG is perhaps a bit of a waste of time.
The PAYG plans are aimed at people who, for whatever reason, are unsuitable for contracts - be it an inadequate credit score or just a complete lack of seld-control leading to ridiculously high bills.

Yup, but its not to some people.
I was just looking at the options of this rather than buying sim free. With sim free, you still buy the phone and pay your existing line rental (or payg) but if you can get it £40 more with minutes / internet, surely it must be worth it that way and you pay monthly rather than in one chunk.
Just thinking of alternatives.
I'm going for the 12month Combi 30 + Web n Walk I think
Makes me said I cant get this phone in the US... Why must the US be so far behind with phones!!
If you order online from Vodafone then the phone is free and for £40 a month you get 1200 minutes, unlimited texts, "unlimited" Internet, and unlimited calls to UK landlines. (I think it's 1200 minutes anyway - it's not entirely clear if the extra 300 you get for ordering online is included in the 900 figure). £45 a month gets you an extra 300 minutes. This is on an 18-month contract: £5 per month less for a 24-month contract.

Yeah, but when another tasty phone comes out in 6 months, you can sell the SIM free one and buy it. I've been a fan of buying outright for a few years now, and it's really nice not being tied to a service provider. It basically means you get a SIM because of the service, not the phone they offer. As well as that, I can cancel my "contract" with a month's notice, at no cost.
Each to their own, but now that I buy I couldn't go back to a contract unless there was something VERY special out there!
Anyway, I got my HD2 from Expansys.com. It was the usual £500, but comes with £30 of Expansys vouchers. Should be delivered tomorrow

Yes, but you can you do that on contract too: sell your contract phone, use the money to buy another one SIM-free, and then carry on using your contract SIM. That way you don't have to pay any money up-front for the first hand-set - the cost is spread over 18 months, or two years. If the first one you buy is SIM-free then you have to come up with £500 in cash up-front. If the first one is on contract then, when you buy the second, you've got the resale value of the first handset to offset the cost.

Thats exactly my point.
I can get the phone for £511.99 with a contract for 12 months and get some free minutes. Then I can still sell the phone at any time and buy another, but I still get free minutes.
You're paying whatever a month for your month by month contract and then £500 on top for the phone, which works out more.
If you're sim free is £20 a month and you sell your phone after 6 months, you've still paid £120 in line rental, which is more than I'll be paying for 12 months line rental and a phone.
£511.99 (12 months) vs £620 (6 months)
Got an upgrade from Vodafone web site as the following:
12 months at £25
phone £100
total cost: £400
100mins / Unlimited Internet (500 Mb fup)
Have been using the internet a lot and have not yet been warned or charged by vodafone regarding the FUP.
Have you got a link for this offer please?
For the upgrade, you need to log in to your VF account and then select upgrade option (must be within the last 70 days of your existing contract).
Then they require you to fill in a form and if you are allowed to upgrade, you are forwarded to upgrade section to pick a phone. HD2 is not there by default so you need to view all phones and select HD2. I think before doing so, you need to select the duration from the top. For me the phone showed up for £100 on existing contract. I heard some people get different quotes and would like to hear what others get.
On the confirmation emails, it is specified as 12 months so the deal seems to be right.
However, this morning also received an email from vodafone back orders apologising that due to the demand it is out of stock and they are expecting new stock in 7-10 days. If it is true that they had stock and it sold out, perhaps they have prioritised new contracts as opposes to upgrade deals like I had.
It is a little disappointing but the deal seems to be worth the wait.
Just ordered mine from Vodafone. Apparently, they had 500 phones come in today, and there were 53 left when I placed my order.
Got a pretty good deal I think, especially as I'm a new customer.
900 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited landline, unlimited internet
18 month contract, £35/month.
Phone should be here on Monday. Well chuffed.
Bagpuss.
Hi Bagpuss,
Did you phone to get this deal or order online? Contact number please......
Ordered direct from Vodafone via their sales line. 08080 408 408.
Spoke to a nice lady called Emma Morgan.
Initially was told that the lowest price for a free phone was £40/month on an 18 month contract. Kept insisting that I needed them to match the deal I was currently getting from O2, which was 1200 minutes for £35/month. Eventually, she agree on the £35/month, but couldn't match the minutes. I was happy with that.
I've heard reports of some new Vodafone customers getting the phone for free on a 12 month, £35/month contract, but I'm a bit sceptical as that doesn't even cover the cost of the handset.
Bagpuss.
Thanks will try them on Monday..........

O2 HD2 price increase wtf!!!

I am ordering my hd2 form o2 next week and just looked on there site to check its in stock and nosited that they have changed the packages they they will do and also put the phone up by £50
why not do what i did and order it through a 3rd party online. you wont have to pay £50 and your billed direct by o2 anyway.......

It's worth paying the extra on O2 though virgin/tmobile network is utterly useless compared to O2...
One bad thing about O2 though... their online stock monitoring means bugger-all... you have to call up to find out if they have stock... I ordered mine online and it took them 1 1/2 weeks to get it to me, despite it stating "in stock" on the website when I ordered and throughout the period I was waiting, when their phone staff were telling me it was out of stock with no projected arrival date...
Just check on the website... seems their plans have gone up in price by roughly 5 quid/month... yikes! I got 600 mins/1000 texts/unlimited data for 35/month with 100 for the phone... they're now claiming unlimited texts, but who uses more than 1000 a month?
Ouch! That is a big price rise! I got mine 600 Mins/100Texts/Unlimited Data for £35 with a free phone (upgrading)!

Regards and Thanx

I just got mine for free on wednesday on o2. they price matched t mobile. it took me 2 visits to the shop and a call.....
30 a month 24 month contract 600 mins 500 texts. the day before they wanted 100 for the phone on same terms.
haggle em. its well worth it.
posting this from my hd2 now lol. it rocks!
igot mine on virgin £25 a month 500mins 3000 texts 1gb internet usage phone cost £79 and thats on a 18month contract thats £529 over the 18months the phone its self cost about £500 so its a good deal
What Gav said - I got mine from o2 price matched to T-mobile (i think) meant I got the phone for free on an upgrade - £35 a month for 600 mins, too many texts to use and unlimited interweb access.
yes i heard about this, because the are really low on stock in o2 for that phone, i hv ordered mine online 2 months ago and Im on 24 months, 25 pounds a month, 600 + 200 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data with free phone, but I was upgrading so maybe it is dif than signing on new contract.

which is probably why the price increase, , ,, also to prime the market for a 'sale - price drop on hd2!' in a few months.

Hi.
get the phone sim-free on either the Orange or Vodafone network from zero cost, go here: mobiles.co.uk
With it being sim-free you can get latest ROM+updates from HTC directly. Besides really good offers on at the moment. Have got 3 HD2's from this company NO PROBLEMS with any of the three handsets.
O2 and Vodafone network are messing about with HD2 because of Apple pressure (iphone). Orange is also best network for HSPDA connection.
well... hearing this, I've got quite good upgrade deal dec. last year. £35 per month plus free web bolt on, 18 mths contract and hd2 for about 30 quid.
Virgin also here
£25 month
18 months
500 min
waay too many texts
and 1 gb internet
+ £79 for the phone
Best deal!
mines 24 months
800 mins
unlimted texts
unlimted virgin to virgin
1g of net
30 quid a month
and fone was free
Just upgraded to HD2 today with o2 and got 1200 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data (web use) and free o2 to o2 calls for £40 per month on a 24 month contract and the free phone will be delivered Tuesday.
Was going to switch to T-Mobile if they could not give me a good deal as T-Mobile were offering 1200 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data, and an unlimited land-line calls bolt-on, on a 24 month contract with free phone for £35 per month, but unfortunately there coverage is not to good here where I live.
It seems we have all paid way different prices. Mine was £50 for the handset, and then 02 18 mth contract @ £35 a month, for 600mins, 500 text and unlimited data connection.
My turn...(upgrade deal)
O2 small business regular user 24mth contract
300 xnet mins
unltd O2 calls
10 unltd landlines
250 texts
unltd interwebby
free phone upgrade every 12 mths
free HD2
£27.38 mth+vat

If your thinking of getting the HD2 on contract in the UK

these deals may tempt you......(see attached)
I ended up getting it on Orange (thru mobiles.co.uk)
Handset £89 and £25x24months
I got mine through BuyMobilePhones.net. Free phone on £30x24. I also selected, for an extra fiver a month, unlimited data use. So for £35 pm I got free phone & unlimited data. Personally I don't think that's a bad deal.
Or Try Virgin mobile,
18 month Contract
Virgin £22 Month
mins 250
Text Unltd
Unltd mobile internet
Hand set £149.99
Or you get even better if you have a virgin media account
I got virgin media tv and broadband so I got the HD2 for £99 and £25 p/m 500 min, unlimited internet (1gb fair use policy blah blah) and 3000 min virgin to virgin calls, not bad on a 18 month contract oh and 2 months free
I got my from Carphonewarehouse for free on
£30x24 (after 9 months less - about £25)
600 mins any time any network
500 SMS
Unlimited internet (fair use 500 MB or more like this month I got almost 1GB)
T-mobile UK
1200minutes
unlimited texts (was a free addon pack)
unlimited internet
free phone
£35pcm over 24 months
asides from sending my their bloomin questionnaire 6 times in one day, im happy
Im with Tmob too
£35 a month, with unlimited everything
(had problems with tmob so I pretty much forced them to give me unlimited mins..)
I just wish i went for a 1 year contract now
Firstly avoid Mobiles.co.uk they are a terrible company to deal with for any issues, they don`t abide to UK DSR's either.
I got mine from them £49 for phone & £25 (600 mins, unlimited txt's) a month back in December, I tried to cancel after realising how much the phone relies on Data connection and although I had not gone out of my wireless range with the phone it had connected to the net several time incurring a charge, I decided to cancel the contract (within 7 days) but they would not issue a return number blaming Vodafone stating that because i have inserted the sim into the phone it is non returnable after telling them this was against the law they would not budge so I contacted consumer direct who confirm it was illegal to refuse the return.
Later I contacted Vodafone to explain what Mobile.co.uk had said about blaming them for breaking UK DSR's and they said that is wrong and Vodafone would be happy to accept a cancellation on any new contract and that she was reporting this to their contract department who deal with third party resellers (when the name mobiles.co.uk was mention by the vodaphone agent a co worker overheard it and said 'their ars**s )
She then said as I was being treated badly by them and they were trying to pass the blame on to Vodafone that Vodafone would try and help, she then said what she will do is add Unlimited data to my contract at no extra cost so that way I would not end up being charged if the phone connected to the net by itself
so in the end I have
600 Mins
unlimited Txt's
Unlimited Data
for £25 a month
Or buy the phone on ebay for £300 (equivelent to £12.50/month on 2 year) and get a sim only...
I'm on O2 sim only for about £20/month with mobile web included and tonnes of messages and minutes too
What I did:
Phone 'as new' on ebay: £350
o2 simplicity - 800minutes, 1600texts, unlimited data - £20/month. £110 Quidco cashback = £11/month for 12 months.
I take from dialaphone.co.uk
£40 x 12 and hd2 cost £38= £518
vodafone but hd2 unlocked and not branded- clean factory
300min x 12
3000texts x 12
internet 500mb x12
This is only 12 month contract now is offer £25 cost hd2
orange
I got mine from dialaphone £35 per month 18 month contract 1200 mins unlimited texts and unlimited internet on orange and found them very helpful as well
got my HD2 as a free upgrade from my i900 from vodaphone. only managed it as i am a business user with them. they had already withdrawn the phones for domestic users.
what a great phone!

One possible caution, if you buy an "as new unwanted upgrade" and the seller decides, sometime along the line, to stop paying the contract the phone will get blocked on all networks.
£240 for handset @ £10pm 24 months. 100 mins per month, unlimited texts and unlimited data via T-Mobile direct. That's what I went for.
I went with Vodafone - just before they went to Business only. Free phone, £35 a month for 2 yrs, 900 anytime network minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited (fair use) data, unlimited calls to landlines. Didn't think it was too bad - I haggled a bit and they increased my 1 month free phone insurance to 6 months.
There are some great offers here. I'm tempted by Virgin, already being a customer. I do worry about what I'll actually get though. Are these phones hobbled like the T-Mobile version? Are the latest official ROMs available? Are they network locked? Reading other threads suggests there might be compromises to be made. I've used an unlocked HD2 with no customizations and was impressed.

I can only find the panther 45 on 18/12 with 1200 mins and that is £45 per month at dialaphone. £50 auto cashback.
I have my PAC code from o2 now and was going to go through topcashback £50 with mobiles.co.uk on £45 per month and get the 8/12 half price.
I got mine from Virgin. £80 for the handset and £25x18 with 500 mins and unlimited data and texts. Unlocked and unbranded handset.
Think the handset price may have increased slightly now.
