My HTC Touch Pro's motherboard broke. And since I had illegal software on there they are overcharging me to repair it. Is there any way that I can find one somewhere online?
IMHO, the motherboard IS the phone since it contains the processor and all the other components. Not to mention ESN. My TP has a dead Touch Digitizer, I'm looking for a replacement,
Wow. I don't think you can find something like that. And if you can, it usually costs almost as much as a new phone.
It's like trying to change the whole engine of a Ferrari
Your better off selling the working parts off your old broken TP and using the money raised to purchase a fully working one

Hi everyone, after 18mths my HTC Touch (Elf) touchscreen has stopped working! I did a soft reset and hard reset, but now in the hard reset it asks me to touch the screen to setup Windows Mobile, however I cannot do it as the screen does not work!
There is no cracks or even scratches as I use the screen protector. I have been reading about LCD's & Digitilizers, but cannot work out which one I need..
Can someone please help me. I want to buy a kit off eBay to repair it but not sure exactly what I need.
Any help will be great!
Do you guys think US$200 is a good price for a HTC Touch Duel with no scratches, as new ? I can buy one for this price, but have never used a dual, and would love my original htc touch to be fixed...
About mine:
- 18mths Old
- No scratches or damage
- Slight corrosion on the plastic where sim card etc goes, not internally but just on the mirror type plastic there is slight green corrosion but it can clean off easily.
- never been in water or anything like that!
Touch screen does not respond to touches anymore, this happened over about 2wks.. it started to not work now and again, then it switched off automatically a couple of times over that period... now it is not responding at all for about 10 days now!
I took to vodaphone and it is out of warranty, I am insured, but it is a load of bullcrap to get insurance, and even if you do you still need to pay a premium of between $150-$275 (AU$) so i might aswell either juszt pay to get it fixed or do it myself.
Cancelling Insurance on this phone ASAP, never getting insurance ever again, only for the first 12mths if phone is over $1000
insurance is lame, and only benefits if phone is lost or stolen.
cheers any1 that can assist me!
You need a digitizer, about $20 from eBay, easy to replace, just see Service Manual for HTC Touch. Better still if you'll get the entire front faceplate with digitizer already attached, simply because it makes your life a lot easier, all you'll need to do it connect the digitizer and assemble the unit.
thankx so much enigma1nz, i was thinking only the digitalizer was needed, but what is the diff between the lcd & digitalizer? I mean in functions etc.
thanku so much for ur time.
I will be ordering the replacement peices, do you think I should do myself or take to a repairer. I am tech savvy, I build PC's, replace RAM etc.. so it should be easy, yea?
cheers

LCD is the screen itself, it shows the information, digitizer is responsible for the touch function. It is relatively easy to replace, simply because the design of the device allows for direct connection with no soldering involved. There is a service manual with photos floating around somewhere, I think even on this forum. Just search for it.
Thanks Enigma1NZ, I actually got a pdf of the dissasemble guide for the htc touch, so should be perfect, I just ordered a digitizer off eBay for only AU$13.60 inc. delivery, so that is awesome!
I got a call from my insurance company today, they want $175 excess if the phone is 'approved' for insurance, plus they kill the imei number too, i told her not to worry and I'm cancelling insurance (already paid $180 all up).... damn rip off, maybe okay while in warranty, but otherwise I will not be making that mistake again!
I will keep ya'll updated, and will be videoing me pulling apart & replacing so I will upload it 4 others too.
P.S enigma, love ur photos posted in myspace.. nice work
I love Touch for the simplicity and straightforwardness of its build, I was surprised the housing was so easy and reasonably cheap to replace (I am thinking of getting mine in red...or purple...). The worst digitizer replacement has to be for 1-gen Iphone and LG Prada. Blasted capacitive screens are the way of the future though and are pleasure to use.
Thanks, i got you added. Let us know how you went. Insurance companies are a bloody rip-off artists playing on our insecurities. I deal with them often when it comes to repairs. Makes no sense to insure after a warranty period simply due to technology depreciaton - you end up paying more in excess than the device is worth at the time.
Yeah the phone looks fairly simple in its housing, I have played around with it a bit... I was actually seriously thinking about replacing my housing while I was in there to white, since I saw the Magic I love the whiteness! I would love a silver housing though, that is the ultimate but have only found white so far.
I will keep you'all updated here with photos 'n video with what I do change.
I was going to buy a prada actually, I think the screen and whole look is amazing, It was tempting but I am very satisfied I chose my touch over the Motorola Razr, Prada and Touch... Touch wins
Cheers again enigma1nz.
I heard LG screens lose sensitivity over time.
Hi, a friend of mine talked to me yesterday about his touch. It seems he has the same problem of the digitizer stoping to work.
Where can I find the service manual and do you know of a good place to buy the digitier?
Tanks!

There's a sticky topic at the top of this forum with several service manuals that you can use. As for buying the digitizer, ebay and dealextreme.com have them for cheap.

Hi... I need your help, I need to change my digitizer, so I want to know you ordered only digitizer or one already fixed on casing as Enigma told you ??
Pls let me know..Thanks
Get a Digitizer and fix em on.
I've got a g1 bought when they first came out that the screen stopped working on. I suspect that it's just the loose ribbon cable, since it's the initial run of the phone. The phone works, I can adb into it, there's just nothing on the screen. Unfortunately, I don't think I can send it in for repair, even tho it's inside the year warranty, cos I had changed the housing for a different color off ebay, which meant unscrewing the screws and breaking the void sticker. So, any recommendations of reputable-won't rip me off&won't break the phone while fixing it-repair services? I looked at the service manual, and really don't feel comfortable disassembling it myself when I am unsure what the problem is.
Edit-If you saw my earlier thread about flashing back to stock, in which I thought it was my fiance's brand new g1 that had died, we realized when we went to box the phone up that the IMEI on the dead phone didn't match the new box. I'd accidentally switched the phones when rooting his&updating the ROM on mine and not realized it. Moral of the story, never flash two phones at the same time!
Editx2-I'm in the DC metro area.
well since you've changed the shell it shouldn't be much harder to check out the cable. just remember in most cases if you have to force something to come apart you are probably are missing a step.
I've taken a few phones apart (bbs, motos, nokias, htcs) down to bare bones and their not that difficult as long as you follow the steps outlined in the service manual. If you are still uncomfortable messing with it and are near a big city most have well reviewed repair shops which offer warranties on their work. If they don't offer a warranty , I probably wouldn't mess with em.
Not sure anyone can recommend anywhere local (being that you didn't mention your local) but I'm sure a few other people can chip in on online sources(I've yet to use any so not comfortable with recommanding any, sry).
Good luck
I called up HTC a while ago, you can mail them your phone and they can do repairs. Just go to their website, it is under the support section. Unfortunately for T-Mobile replacements, one of the first things they ask is "Is the LCD screen working?"

I read on here that HTC charges likes $250 for repairing the screen tho, that's insane. I'm willing to pay a REASONABLE price to get it fixed by someone who knows what they're doing, but if the repair is gonna run me more than I paid for the phone and more than 50% the cost of a NEW phone, I'll suck it up and do it myself.
I can fix it for you, I have built a working G1 from two, one that was liquid damage and the other with a shattered lcd and digitizer. Where are you located, i am in alabama... now if you damaged the cable to the lcd, then it would require purchasing a new one. The lcd goes for $65 to $70 and the digitizer goes for about $80 on ebay.

I'm in DC, so mailing it to alabama is less than ideal. I'm exploring other options, thanks!
odds are you are gonna have to mail it off somewhere unless you do it yourself. i have had MANY phones and taken all of them apart to fix one thing or another, i never had any worries about my work and i never had a service manual. if something where to go whong with this phone i would be more confident in my ability to fix it since i can go find a service manual online
Hi all!
I managed to crack the digitizer of my HD2 some while back. It's working but I'd like to have it replaced, and I really think I'll screw it up if I try it myself. However, the official HTC repair service here in Norway wants the equivalent of 370€ to do it, and most unofficial ones are only slightly under that price.
I'm wondering if you know of any reliable repair services elsewhere in Europe would be cheaper, and in that case, which ones?
I've seen digitizers & glass being sold online, but they say it's pretty hard to separete from the LCD.
There are also complete sets of displays for hd2, LCD+digitizer+glass going for around 85$ or more.

Indeed, but I want to avoid replacing it myself, just not at any price.
quick consideration: I bought my hd2, second hand, for 440€ in february. Up to a 200€ expense for repairs (lower than which I think it would be really hard to find anything) I would seriously consider buying ANOTHER hd2 which now, being almost august, maybe can be found for less than 350€. I am not following the market.
At thjat point you could sell yours as defective for 200€ and still have paied 150€, lower than repairs
Thanks for the tip, that's not a bad idea at all..
However these guys says they'll fix it for 150£, so I think I'll just take a vacation in London and pay them a visit while I'm at it.
Anyone had any experience with this place? Turn on Your Mobile Ltd.
After a dip in the sink my G1's touchscreen does not respond. The phone otherwise appears to be working, though that's a little hard to judge when you can't get past the touchscreen pattern.
So I guess the digitizer needs replacing. I've look at the steps for that task and think it may be beyond my comfort level. Any suggestions on getting this work performed at a reasonable cost?
Look on the Craigslist for a used G1. Should be able to pick one up for $80 - $100 depending on condition. At this point it will be cheaper to just get another G1 then try to repair yours.
There is another option
As for me, i`ve ordered a new digitizer from ebay (it costs $20-$30 there) and replaced it by myself. A little bit tricky in disassembling and further assembling - but if you have a service manual (i can supply you with it) - it quite easy. I can help you with any advice upon that.
Also I`ve replaced the whole case (or it can be called housing) of my G1 - so i can tell you about it too.
Are us selling the service manual

I saw the videos on how to fix it yourself, im not sure if i would be able to do it. Well my friend cracked the screen and HTC charged 185 to fix it for him. But i have smashed the screen and the housing also (btw, Ford Explorer ran over it)im sure it would be 250 or something. Im not sure if its worth spending so much money on this phone.
Phone is turning on and works fine, i can even get calls but can't pick the calls as touch screen won't work. Just the glass and housing needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know any repair shop in NY or any place which would be cheaper than HTC? Thnx guys,
ouch. That's painful to even look at. I'm no expert or anything, but i think if a heavy SUV ran over it then it must have crunched the components on the inside. I'd say it's not worth it because you can find a used one for around the same price (probably)
Well amazingly its a sturdy phone, its ringing when someone calls me, its getting the text msgs, alarm went on in the mrng. Everything seems to be fine, besides the touch interface not working and of course physical damage.
Need to find one with a dead or faulty motherboard then do a swap job. Would not want to pay repair centre cost but worth doing yourself if can find a cheap donor device ...

Well i did find the housing for $20+ online and glass with digitizer for around 90 on ebay (US Seller). Its just that its too much work and probability of messing it up is very high
You need a whole device as donor really as I suspect you will find a few less than perfect parts & having a spare of everything will prove invaluble & also allow you to recoup some cost by selling unwanted parts individually.
Only worth it if can pick up a real cheap bricked HD2.
Full strip & rebuild is not too hard, most horrors are people stripping touch & LCD panels or those who strip the device like a hungry bear opening a jar of honey. A bit of knowledge & a delicate touch is a must on HD2.
I smashed mine a few months back sold it on xda for £120 and bought a mint condition used one for £190 on ebay

There are assembly and dis-assembly guides for HD2 if you search around...you can also get parts for cheap on eBay, So if you have lot of time you can repair it for yourself
