Remove Program - Touch HD General

Hello, I have a video player i like to remove. It is not listed in "remove programs". It comes with a new rom i flashed. Is there a way to remove that program? Because i am not using it.
Sorry my bad english.

if it's part of the ROM image, then you won't be able to remove it.

Ok, thank you.

Just got XDA, succesfully unlocked using aunlock, however !
Sorry if this is a stupid question. How do I remove programs that don't appear in the "remove program" option. Such as microsoft reader media player and other such stuff.
Cheers
Jamie
You cant, they are in rom so they cannot be deleted.

How to remove saftware installed by default.

Hi. How do i remove installed software that i automatically installed when i flash the original att htc rom for the 8525. I want to remove office, and install the cabs. basically i want to free up room and place everything on a sd card. also i don't want to touch or replace the original rom core system. Thank you in advance for your help. genek
Well I appreciate you do not want to change ROM, but essentially what you are wanting to do is exactly what a customised light ROM does.
However, what you can try is to do a hard reset. When the screen comes up saying that it is installing provider customisation, you put the stylus in the reset hole. This effectively stops the installation of the ROMs customised programmes.
Now all you have to do is find cabs of the programmes you want.
Of course the essentials of the programmes are still on your device taking up some space, but not installed.
You might want to also investigate "extended ROM" use the search facility.
Also check the differences between program memory and storage memory all previously discussed here.

thank you for your reply. I will look around and see what I can find. Thanx for pointing me in the right direction.

AT&T Tilt 2 - am I deleting programs and applications correctly?

Hi all,
I am a noob and I am not too sure if i am deleting stock programs and apps that came with the att tilt 2. Some apps and programs cant be found under "remove programs."
For example, if i want to delete a program, can I just go into the file explorer and find the folder and just delete it from there? Will that completely delete that program?
Also, when i try to delete the "Opera 9" folder, it says "_home.exe is a system file, deleting it will cause some programs to not run properly." Can I still delete it anyways?
I basically want to know if I can just find the folders of the pre-installed programs and apps that i dont want and just delete it from there. Will that completely erase it from my phone?
Thanks in advance for help.

anyone? any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
thank you all
I don't know about Opera (are you trying to upgrade to 9.7 or 10 Beta?), but I deleted many of the ATT bloatware programs exactly as you described. No issues at all. You will also want to go to Windows>Start Menu>Programs and delete the shortcuts there, to remove them from the Start Menu screen.
You will get lots of storage back, and the programs will stay removed unless you hard reset.
Hey thanks for the reply. Opera 9 came pre-installed with the tilt 2 and i downloaded opera 10. So i dont to delete opera 9. I went to file explorer and found its folder and try to delete it. But it says "_home.exe is a system file and deleting it will cause some programs to not work properly"
So im not too sure should i proceed and delete it or should i not? I think _home.exe is a file or something in the opera 9 folder. Umm not too sure what to do.

can anyone help??
thanks
if you dont want the ATT bloatware, why dont you just flash a clean ATT rom? (as long as you want to keep the ATT look)
Hi ctbear,
Sorry I am completely new to the WM and not too sure about alot of things. I have been reading on these forums about hard spl and flashing my phone. However, I am still kind of scared to do it, im scared that will screw up and mess up my phone. I do have a couple of questions to your reply.
1. where can I find a clean ATT rom?
2. what exactly is a clean ATT rom? did someone on these forums made the rom or is it a official release by ATT?
Thank you

1. You can find a clean rom in the rom thread.
2. ATT will never release a Clean rom. It has to be made by one of the great rom cooks here on XDA

Is there a flashable version of the stock AT&T rom or are you referring to eras2r's ROM? His is probably closest to the stock rom but it isn't a straight dump from a stock device is it? I've been hoping someone would be able to get the stock rom dumped so we could flash it back. Maybe someone will get one for Christmas! I know the old trick of resetting on the first boot just before the bloatware installer ran was a way to cut back on some of the stuff but it wasn't 100%.

Tried this.. I assumed it was going to show all the loaded programs.. all it shows is TMS uninstaller, CleanRAM which I installed and Adobe Flashlight. Is everything else going to need to be deleted by going thru the file explorer?
You can't delete files in ROM. Shortcuts for programs that came pre-installed can be deleted, but the actual program remains. Still, deleting shortcuts yields very little gain in space as they are small files. It does help clean up the Start menu, though. The only way to get rid of the bloatware is to flash a cooked ROM with those items already removed.

Help pls! my wallpaper cant be changed.

Hi, i just installed 'Co0kie High Quality Wallpaper Patch' file v1.22. well i was suppose to install the v1.21 as my manila version is 2.5.1921, but i accidently installed the v1.22 instead.
Now, i cant change wallpaper at all. my wallpaper is grey-ish black throughout( its like one of the original wallpaper).
I deleted his file alrdy thru device>windows>appmgr( is it correct way?). But i still cant change my wallpaper.
HELP!!!! thanks.
you can't uninstall the patch? use settings/applications/remove programs to uninstall.
i think the patch is for use together with the HDwallpaper. you may have to install a HDwallpaper cab in your device.

Completely Uninstalling programs

Sorry if there is an answer somewhere already, but I have been looking around for 20 minutes and I'm giving up and posting a thread. I have like five programs that won't uninstall when I go into the settings-->remove programs application. It comes up with a message that says "XXXX was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
Has anybody had this also? How do I get it completely off my phone/get the memory back?
One more thing, I have a program called "AA AA" and I know for sure that I didn't install a cab with that name, so what the hell is it? I'm a noob with WinMo so sorry if it's simple **** haha.
Thanks in advance

For programs that say they didn't uninstall completely, the method I use to get them out is this:
1) run the cab again, the same one you used to install a/the app in the first place
2) when it gives you option or error dialogs, just click "ok" or "yes" to all of them, to allow it to go through what looks like another complete install process (yes, it's odd, but this is how to do it).
3) when it's done, soft-reset, and then you should find that there's no more trace of the app in your uninstall list.
Don't ask me how/why that works, but I've used it in many instances for just that reason, and it's worked every time I tried it.
As for that "AA AA" app, I've certainly never seen a cab that used that name (fyi, the name in the uninstall list doesn't necessarily match the name of the cab file...only if the person creating it set it up that way). So...I'd just say uninstall it, and see if any apps/links are missing then.
This thread is closest to my problem,so I'm asking here.
I cant uninstall ANY of my programs, I have tried the usual method from the remove programs section in Settings. I get same error as OP.
When that failed I then try to just delete the program folder from program files, using file explorer, but get an error saying 'Access is denied. Be certain the folder isn't in use and not write protected'
At first I thought I had a memory card problem, but its the same regardless of where the program is installed.
I also tried to re-install the programs from their cab files as described above, but get an 'unsuccessful' message.
I cant rename any files anywhere on my device either.
I know a little about write protection, but cant figure out what my problem is or how to fix it.
I hope I explained properly for someone to help.
Thanks.
It looks like that the installer process "wceload.exe" was not correctly quit and is still in the memory. Terminate the process wceload.exe with a task manager and try again.
Thanks ElectronX.
I did a search on my HD2 for the file you mentioned and couldn't find it. I have Duttys task manager installed and after a soft reset, the problem still remains. The task manager is empty of processes when I start the device.
Im sorry that Im a bit clueless to how to achieve what you suggest.
I have discovered that the problem extends beyond removing and installing programs. I cant do anything in file explorer other than open documents. If I want to move, delete, rename any file on the device I get the 'write protected' error message. I cant do it via active sync either..I connected to the computer and could browse my device, but if I tried deleting, moving or renaming, the message said it didn't have permission to do it.
Last resort is a hard reset, but hopefully someone will be able to help.
Use sktools to uninstall when windows fails. Best program ever...
Good luck
Thanks, but I cant install anything on my device...can sktools be run from my computer to fix the device?
Unfortunately not...
Good luck though..
