WMP File Assossiation - Touch HD General

Hi,
Is there a way to select file assossiations for the WMP on our Blackstone? All sounds on my blackstone are being read on the library even game sounds and ringtones. Wish there was a way to select just MP3's.

I was wondering the same, because I'd love for MP4's to show up in the library.

File Associations
MemMaid (www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/) allows you to change file associations, but I don't know what, if anything, that might do to alerts and ringtones?

Phone does not ring properly anymore

Hi
I have an xda 2.
Ever since I installed/uninstalled winamp beta it, my phone will not play wav files anymore. I have tried adjusting the wav file assocation in pocket tweak however as windows media player does not play this, what does?
Is there a quick fix to restore this setting?
Has anyone else encountered this before?
Stevo
no i've used both versions of the winampaq and i never noticed any wav issues
will it not play wav at all ?
will it not start windows mediaplayer when you doubleclick on wav files ?
will windows mediaplayer not play wav any more ?
No it will not play wav at all. Btw I don't think windows media player plays wavs at all or am I wrong?
Lets forget what program messed up the settings. I just need to know how to restore the phone or system as the default wav player.
What application is normally responsible?
if it cant play wav files in sounds and notifications in systems
then i think there is more amiss then just a associating issue
because it should not depend on that
if you open up your power tweak (assuming you have it installed) can you tell me what application is associated with "wav" file type.

THANKS ALOT MASTER.
IT WORKS VERY WELL.
Not working for me. Installed, no error messages, but I still can't use mp3's as ringtone. Actually in file manager mp3's are not associated with any programs. Could someone give any help?
you dont need anything to set a .mp3 as a ringtone, just place the mp3 file in the rings folder under windows and go to the tone selection screen and it will be there.
PLACE MP3 FILE IN FOLLOWING FOLDER
\\My Device\Windows\Rings
then do this
Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications(on bottom)
Then Event:.. scroll down to Phone: Incoming Call then tap the drop down box by ring tone and it will be there.
There should deffinately be a FAQ sticky for this kinda stuff

So it can't be done without placing the mp3 in the ringtones directory? In deed it's not working for me that way either. I can see the mp3 on the list, but after choosing and pressing an OK, it sets itself back to windows default. Actually I can't use anything else than windows default. I'm really getting mad, plz help! Where is the file associations menu? Maybe there's some problem there. This thing is messed up since I've installed and uninstalled winamp...
Work great on wm2005 1.60b
Man i dont know is if its the program or the windows itself..but under the settings of notifications all my mp3 is listed ..which i never knew!...this is GREAT!

It would appear that by default mp3 ringtones are allowed, however once you install a third party app to play mp3's (you mention winamp) you lose the ability to use them(it seems that the Media player engine is used for this).Uninstalling the app makes no difference, you then have no mp3 player because the mobile version of windows does not restore the file association. The best way round this that I have found is to simply use an audio app (Nero wave editor in my case) to convert/edit the mp3s to wma. This has the bonus that most mp3 tracks are too long for a ringtone (how many phones ring for 3-4 minutes without kicking in the answering service ?) so when you convert you can also reduce the length.
I cant comment on the set ringtone cab posted here, never tried it, it may work
HTH
I am able to install the cab file without any error message but still can't use mp3's as ringtone. The mp3 file appears in the Sound and Notification drop down list, but whenever I select the mp3 file and try to play, it doesn't play and return back to Windows Default ringtone. Can anyone tell me that what is the problem?

The same problem I have. Also I don't think so that the easiest way to solve it is to convert each of my mp3's to wma or whatever. Somehow there should be a way to restore the file associations. Maybe if someone would have a media player to install (re-install) that could solve it. The problem is that I've also lost my former ringtones.
Have a look at this thread here. Ive just downloaded the files but not tried em yet. Seems to be able to restore file associations so that WMP becomes your default player. This should then allow you to use mp3's as ringtones

GO TO START/SETTING/PERSONAL/PHONE (AND SELECT YOUR MP3 FROM THERE).
CHEERS,
YAARUB
So the file associations are normal again, thx to your help. But how can I set an mp3 as ringtone which is stored on the sd card other than copying it to the ringtones folder as it takes far too much space from the main memory? The settings-ringtones does not find the mp3 files either on the sd or in the system memory, only wavs and mids.
@Szilu
I'm afraid there is no other choise but to copy the mp3 ringtone to the main memory.
Im sorry
That's a pity. Anyway can you suggest any programs then to cut mp3's to smaller pieces? As 4 minutes is far too much thus the size can be shrinked. THX for your kind help.
Try "Sound Forge", But im not sure if it support mp3 files or .waqv only, their you can cut the file to small pieces.
good luck.

Use any mp3 song as alarm?

First of all I tried search this, but with no results.
On Vario II, is it possible to use basically any mp3 song as an alarm (wake up, notification)?
Love to wake up with a favourite song rather than the irritating default tunes...!
What strings did you use as a search?

reverts to Default...
thanks. I put couple .wav files to the windows folder. they now appear in the drop down list in alarms, but when I click the wav I want it quickly automatically reverts to Default sound... weird?!
I try always my best to search answers before I post... don't know why didn't spot that one. thanks again.
maybe your WAV is not supported. What I usually do is run the WAV in Windows' soundrecorder and convert it or save as to PCM 22.050 Khz, 16Bit, Mono for alerts/system sounds.

You can use mp3 files directly - no need to convert to .wav. Just make sure that the extension ".mp3" is *not* associated with any program other than Windows Media Player. Many music players do associate themselves with .mp3 files during installation.
Also, the mp3 you want to use should be in either the \Windows or the \Windows\Ring folder.
Cheers

Add sounds for sms.

I suppose the solution is really simple, but i still havent succeeded in doing this. How do i add my own sounds for messages?
Changing ringtone is really simple, just add the mp3 file or whatever to folder ringtones. But ive tried to put my sounds for messages everywhere, but i still just can choose from the default sounds.
Cant the p3600 play mp3 files for sms and stuff?
/Jakob
I don't know if you can use mp3, but try setting it on 'setting panel' saound & Notify
Put the fileon windows dir.
BTW try with wav files it work
I fixed it now.
The problem was the name of the file plus format. I changed format to wav but it still didnt work. Then i renamed it from "xxx - xxxxxxxxxxx.wav" to just "xxxx.wav". Now it works. Thx.
/j
there are several WAV formats, can i use all of them?
there is one WAV format that can really compress like an MP3.
did anyone try it?
Program for it
You can probe Ringo Ringtone program. Works easy with the Trinity. Is from Electricpocket Company.

Changing alarm clock sounds

Is it possible to use sounds/music you have installed instead of the standard sounds that come pre installed on the phone. Any ideas would be great.
hmmmmmmmmmm,
Copy ur music file to "windows" or "My documents" folder, it will search and automatically add to list, then u can set it.
I would advice u to use any software like cradle alarm/Vistalarm/G-Alarm.
Make sure it is a wav audio file (mp3's won't work)...
HTC ELF Alarm Sound Link
I will add that you will need an mp3 to wav converter, if all of your files are in mp3 format. I use media coder.
MP3 converter Link
Bonus for you...
Youtube Vids on Media Coder
Hope this helps,
Best Regards!
