the focus on my HD's camera seems to be stuck in macro. or at least seems to only be in focus at about 3 inches in front of the lens.
it worked for the first two weeks i had it (give or take a few days), then it decided to stop focusing. i've since flashed the ROM several times, and tried installing several camera .cabs. nothing seems to work. i'm afraid it might be the hardware and not a software issue, despite it working perfectly when i first bought it.
has anyone else had this issue or have any idea's on how i can fix it?
try HKLM\software\htc\camera\general and set macromode to 0
I'm using a Touch Pro but we tend to have the same registry settings. Not sure if that will help but worth a shot. Good luck
thanks for the suggestion.
i took a look at that registry and it was already set to 0. just one more reason for me to believe it's a hardware issue. which is upsetting.
does anyone know of a good HTC repair place? preferably in california. i might as well check to see if it is a hardware issue.

I'm having a weird color at my HD2 camera.. I'll attach the photo of my HD2 taking picture at something.. does it hardware problem? I've upgraded it to newest official ROM, and even tried SD android build but no luck..
please, I need some help
Looks simular to colours i was getting with mine, I had a mainboard issue i think causing the screen problem like that. I had those colours all the time though. you played with the settings? colour saturation maybe?
nope.. it's just like that.. tried any other setting with no luck..
my friend said it was a camera module error.. and it costs 400K IDR (around USD 40) to fix and replace it..
I have the exact same issue. The color is distorted like that (too much contrast/saturation) no matter if I am in WinMo or Android. I have played around with the settings but cannot get it to look normal. Default settings look like that. And yes I have hard reset several times....
Anyone have any other ideas?
I too have this same issue...I've tried a hard reset and a ROM re-install but the problem still exists...does anyone have a resolution for this issue?
Yes send back to htc for repair.

I have the exact same problem.. is it related to the google goggles app? Because my camera works fine before I tried the app.. (my device is htc desire hd but having the same issue)
It did turn out to be a faulty camera module which was fixed under HTC's 2 year warranty

same with me.. only in my case, it's not covered by warranty, and I fix it for around $50..
i have the same problem. and it was also fine at first and stopped working after google goggles. anyone find a solution besides sending it back?
I have same problem with my phone.Maybe to try another camera app. My phone is currently dissembled so I cant test.
Anyone find solution?
Oke I tested my camera more when m phone is assembled. The closest to normal photos I was getting when I was pressing screen in camera area. I always get same picture as first photo in this post. And when I switch to android Froyo 1.5 system I get pink color when run camera.
So people what do you suggest?
What part should I change?
Whole camera or just this square camera module?
Or any other solution...
Grateful!
Please if anyone know solution for this problem and gives me answer.
What replacement parts do I need? Should I change all camera related part or just this came module (looks like little cube) or maybe flex cable??
Just curious, how many of you have had your camera button start to malfunction?
After 1-2 months of use, it got to the point where I could no longer focus on an image before snapping a picture... I was stuck taking "Quick pics", if you know what I mean...
Fortunately, with Mango, I can tap the screen to focus now, but I was just curious if this is happening to many?
A poll might help you better.
mine works fine, but i tend to use the tap to shoot more than the button just because i can tell it what to focus on.
Same issue
Yes - I have this issue on mine, too. I didn't see it until I was running the Mango pre-release software in July/August, so I assumed it was related to something in the software. The official Mango update didn't make it any better, so I'm starting to think the pre-release software correlation was just coincidental and it's actually something mechanical with the button/switch.
Mine also has started behaving this way, for almost a year now. It's not consistent either. Sometimes it works perfectly, and sometimes I have to dig my fingernail into the button just to get the camera app to even open.
I have the same issue. My focus is 18 months old though, so I thought it was just worn out. It used to work with mango. I am now running a custom tango rom, so maybe it is software related...

This is not a software issue. Though I am curious, has anyone managed to disassemble the phone and clean the button or would it need to be replaced?
So to make a long story short I recently broke the back facing camera on my Note 3. The Lens is cracked and obviously pictures are extremely distorted and purple in color and such. Knowing my usual DIY nature I figured it would cost me about 20 bucks to get buy a new camera and install it myself... Not exactly the case. At this point I have had 2 different replacement cameras and installed them both correctly. Both cameras have resulted in the error message "Warning: Camera Failed" and clearing the Camera data and cache have not helped. Neither has factory resetting the device. I also know it is not a hardware problem because when I reconnect the original camera it opens no problem.
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue or has similar experience or if anyone knows if I can try another replacement camera? Any help is much appreciated because at this point I am out of ideas

Basically i got into an argument on the phone and I slammed the phone on the desk I was at. Hoping to avoid a screen crack I slammed it on the back(With a case on) and the next time i opened the camera it was destroyed

Well, you say you replaced them correctly so the obvious conclusion is the hardware is different.

Hey guys,
I'm hoping someone can maybe help me out with this issue. For about 2 days now my camera has stopped focusing. When you touch the screen you see the little icon come up in the middle... but it doesn't even attempt to change the focus.
I've tried doing a factory reset through the settings menu, and then through the recovery menu. I've wiped the lens down, and I've tried another app. Nothing worked at all.
I'm 99.9% sure it's a hardware issue that I will have to send it in for...........but that .1% uncertainty brought me here hoping someone has some other step I can try.
I've got a stock phone running 5.0
Thanks
I have the same problem when I try to take a picture when it's dusk.
I had the same problem when I bought my 910A from eBay. It wouldn't focus unless I tapped the phone and sometimes took a good smack to get it to focus. It was a hardware problem so I sent it back for a refund.
Sorry, you mentioned you were looking for a possible fix. I tried going down that avenue, but the issue is inside the camera and to work on that you have to remove the screen which is a major PITA. I looked into Square Trade, which has a $75 deductible and Samsung, which wanted $250 to replace the camera. In the end I tried to work out an exchange with the seller but that didn't happen. So I ended up buying a 910C from a different seller. This one works fine.
Hello there to all.
I´m newly registered to the forum, although i´ve been using it to search, learn and use roms in my Samsung s3 for some time now.
I´ve bought recently a used S4 i9506. At the time i tested several key points of the device to check if it was all working, however (and don´t ask me why because i cant explain it), i completely forgot to test the cameras.
My problem is the following. Everytime i try to access the camera it says that camera failed or something like server connection failed. I´ve tried every single resolution i could find on the internet and so far all failed to solve it. The problem seems to be in both cameras, i think, because when i try the code *#0*# both Mega cam and front cam give error. Here´s what i tried so far:
- Soft Reset/Hard Reset/factory reset;
- Cleared cache both from boot and manually erasing cache from com.sec.android.gallery3d;
- Tried 3rd party camera apps from GooglePlay;
- Tried the RestartCamera.apk;
- Tried 3 different firmwares for i9506;
- Tried rooting it and then flashed several different roms;
- Switched the rear camera with a new i9506 rear camera module that i bought;
- I cant also test the cameras, because when i use the code *#34971539# they bring a menu on which i can´t use almost every option (see image);

Anyone have any other possible resolution?
I´m thinking on maybe buying a front camera module. Could that do the trick? Could the front facing camera not working properly make the rear camera fail as well?
Thank you for the attention to all who took the time to read.
So far 60 people read and nobody answered. ... is it because you don´t know what else i can do? I´ve been reading the problem may be from the motherboard. What can i do on the motherboard to make things right?
Thanks again
Be patient my friend someone will answer soon
Hi,
I've got the same problem with my s4mini. Both cameras aren't working and all the solutions you explained don't solve it.
I'm thinking about buying another S4mini with broken Display in order to change the motherboard. This might be the only possibility to solve this......
Greetings from Germany

Hey there m8.
I know the feeling, right?!
The thing is that for a faulty i9506 model i could almost buy myself another motherboard and mount it, but i was hoping to find some other solution, maybe even some electronics expert opinion on what i could do in the motherboard to make it work again. There are some videos on youtube that teaches how to change some components on the motherboard to solve problems like dead smartphone or constant auto reboots. Also, finding a faulty i9506 model isn´t as easy as finding a regular S4. :crying:
Thx for sharing the problem and for the opinions,
and greetings from Portugal
Today i've changed the mainboard aaaaaaand -> cameras still not working
So i started to change the front cramera and the ear-brightness-sensor from the old s4 mini with the broken screen into my working one. And now both cameras are working again!:good:
I think the cause is most likely the brightness sensor which is combined with the ear speaker. This could explain why both cameras are not working.
I'm not completely sure due to i changed the front camera also. However changing the main camera did not do anything as mentioned above.
Maybe i should mention: A few weeks ago i've changed the earspeaker-brightness-unit because the speaker wasn't working anymore. Right after this both cameras stopped working.

Thank you for the update on your situation m8. That could be some relevant information there. Can anyone confirm if the sensor is the same for all s4 models? If so i could find more easily one from another s4 model and try it, for the sake of desperation.
cheers
