There goes my HEROOOOOO - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I just installed hero on my magic for the first time, and I just
want to say that I am completely blown away at how amazing this
thing is. It is phenomenal. Words cannot describe.
For those who have not done it, I highly recommend it..
There is a lot of confusion as to not everything working and stability however I gave it a shot and have not experienced any problems. Its running fast, smooth, and stable. Everything seems to be working fine.
Go Hero

Which version of the magic do you have? Do all of the hardware and software features work?
Thanks

I agree, rooted and flashed the Hero ROM yesterday and after playing with it for most of the day it feels faster and smoother than the stock Rogers ROM. Very easy to do as well, I was worried but it worked perfect first time.
The ROM I flashed was "Fatal1ty_Hero-Full_v1.2-Rogersfixes-signed" and everything works bluetooth, WiFi, 3G etc. The camera was a bit flaky until I rebooted but it works great now.
Clinton

I found a link to v1.3 of Fatal1ty's hero rom.
I ran that and it is working harmoniously.
I have not experienced any issues with any of the hardware. It all seems to work fine for me. ..The software seems to be running great too. It is rare that I notice lag.

So i'm guessing you have the 288 meg RAM version? Running hero with 192megs of RAM is painful.

It's so bad running Hero on my Vodafone branded Magic... Not good at all.
Although for those interested I am finding the following works far better than any Hero ROM I've tried yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533113

yes i am running the rogers rom with the increased ram. its quite zippy ...sad that the vodafone users get jipped.

Why would they do something so stupid like that?? It really pisses me off, making 2 of the same phone with a much needed upgrade on only a select version of them.
Has anyone had any good experience runnig the rom on the non 288 ram version of the phone?

HTC did that becuase that is what rogers wanted for i assume two reason. a) so they could fill it with there own software b) so users have a much smother experience, as rogers is pitting Android agianst the Iphone (yes rogers dose carrey both)

i have htc hero rom on my rogers magic with 288Mb ram.. and it runs perfect with no problems at all.

I am running the htc magic vodafone with 288 mb memory (actually the internal memory widget reports 295 mb, dont know if its corrrect) and my specs are:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0004 (SAP10000)
CPLD-10

Could you please give some pointers on running the hero rom on my phone?
Thanks

Difference between Android phones

Dear Community.
I've one question...
HTC has a lot of Android phones in their product line...
Magic, Hero, Tatoo
But what is the big difference between them?
I only know that Hero and Tatoo have little bit more Ram and an other UI.
But is it worth to buy a Tatoo in stead of an Magic?
thanks

I'm not an expert of testing different phones. But here's my short review anyway. There are no huge differences, though the Hero doesn't upgrade to OS 1.6 yet.
I'll start with the Magic.
The Magic has two version, the 32B and 32A.
To summarize that, the 32A is a little "faster" can load more apps and used OS 1.5 but now upgraded to 1.6. Big disadvantages are having no 3.5 mm jack for audio, bad camera and multimedia support.
The Hero has the nice Sense UI (Rosie) but might have little lag on homescreen once you put more applications on it etc.. One of the neat things is the fingerprint-resistant coating so you don't have to clean it over and over like the Magic.
The Tattoo runs 1.6 and is much like Hero because of the Sense UI and it is much faster with booting. The design fits better in one hand because it's more round shaped. Disadvantage is the smaller screen.
You can modify any of these phones to your taste. But I think HTC has done a great job with Tattoo. The Dream & Magic are also good phones, but if you plan not to mod the phone I'd say Tattoo.
Just my opinion with some facts. The choice is up to you.
All Android phones are cool.
i could live with the small screen as a pocket suitable phone but the screen of the tattoo is only a resistive screen instead of a capacitive screen. Which is a big disadvantage.
What about the TMobile MyTouch 3G?
Where does the TMobile MyTouch 3G fit in with all of that?
And why does the description on this board only say "also known as HTC Magic" but not "also known as TMobile MyTouch 3G"?
Thanks for reply.
I would flash roms to my phone, so the UI differences are not so importand for me...
But when I do a comparison between... Hero and Magic (Magic has a Rom with Sense ui)
Am I right if I say they are then very similar??

Well, if you get a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G or some models from Vodafone also means you'll get PVT32B version with 192MB ram. And that isn't really good enough for a HTC Hero Rom. It would eventually lag (slow down) even with swap. PVT32A has 288MB ram FYI. There are pretty good Roms for this one, but from my experience with using Android phones I've never had problems with android 1.6 donut and 2.0 eclair. You can modify them a lot to make it look like the Sense UI if you really want to. Or ofcourse just get the HTC Hero...

I thought HTC already released an update to fix any lag on the phone.

The mt3g is the same
the reason it say also known as the magic is because that is the real name of htc's phone
they use sapphire because thats what its called in the coding
the mt3g is just what tmobile decided to call it because they seem to be the only one's with a contract to switch htc's names (htc now wants to brand themselves so we'll see how much longer that last)...
the difference in the names really doesnt matter... it come down to what type of board you have 32a/32b

Yes that might be.
I'm not that up to date with the Hero, I heard people have had problems with it and not sure if that's fixed by now, that's why I said 'might'.
Other than that what about the motorola droid, that looks good, all metal casing.
Radio differences
pack: Thanks for the reply!
I suppose there are radio differences too since there seems to be a lot of variation in how carriers handle 3G, at least in terms of frequencies used. TMobile and AT&T in the US do 3G differently and it seems that carriers in Europe and Asia have other ways. I don't know, though, if each 3G carrier's version of the Sapphire has an internal name at HTC for differentiation.
It would be great, though, if HTC started coming out with phones that had radios capable of being used on any GSM network, including data at 3G speeds, because everyone I know in the US with a 3G phone that was unlocked and moved from TMobile to AT&T, or vice versa, has to live with 2G data speeds on the other network. Is this the case in Europe too when switching between carriers or moving between countries? Or has 3G data been standardized there?
I would not recommend the Tattoo simply based on it's resistive screen.
The HTC Hero is the best Android offering so far from HTC. If you can get your hands on a HTC Magic 32A version it's just about identical hardware-wise to an HTC Hero.

New to Android, did the search, need suggestions

Hello!
I bought a MyTouch 3G and I'm shopping for a new ROM. There are so many and I'm truly confused. What is the best Sense UI for the 32B and is it really worth it?
This forum has always been a hard to use source of information, so I'm asking your help and I will write a guide in return
i prefer SENSEHERO. its the fastest, smoothest hero out there. the theme is pretty sick too. you already have root though right? fyi, a lot of good 32B hero roms are actually in the dream section, i frequently browse both! because on here, its more 32A orientated.
From my experience ROMs with Rosie are not that fast on pvt 32b board. Donut 1.6 is still faster and more stable to me. Although I like the Hero Sense UI contact application.
i agree, when i had a g1 I really liked rosie/sense at first, but no matter how hard the geniuses here try, the g1 just doesnt have the RAM for sense ui, period. And TMobile inexplicably gave the MyTouch the exact same amount of RAM as the g1, so i havent bothered trying sense i got a mytouch. even TMO's newest Android only has 200mb RAM, still not enough for sense and it even lags with stock Android.
Id like to know the business strategy of testing their customer's faith and patience like this

dream or sapphire?

just broke my phone, and now need to get either a dream or sapphire. but had some questions
dose the cam work on 2.0/ 2.0.1/droid or hero
dose the hero rom lag like it dose on the g1?
and when rooting do you have to use ADB because there is no keyboard?
thanks for any help on this.
Get a hero or droid
haha
just get a droid or a hero bro. Unless you're cool running cyan or some other 1.6-2.0 rom. Any hero on my mytouch hasnt proven to be a daily user. albeit im a novice at best, but if you're asking then i would assume you're no pro.
My two cents
there are several hero roms that are daily users here. The only problem is, it is not going to be as snappy as a modded-stock rom like Cyanogen. If you set your phone up right, there is no reason why most of these roms could not be daily users.
Qtek and Ttran001 have great 32B roms IMO that are great for daily use.
wouldnt say im a pro, just dont have the time anymore to keep up on everything, but i have been flashin roms on the g1 since the beginning. never got onto the sapphire boards, so just tryin to get some more info before i decide.
what i know is that the Sapphire has more ram than the g1 so that makes me wonder about the speed. I noticed that on some roms they dont use Swap when they are used with the 32a.
just wonderin more on what changes from one to another.
the 32B has the same ram as the G1. The 32A has the same ram as the Hero. That's why there is no need for the linux swap.
It all depends on the phone you are going to get. MyTouch and Google Ion, etc. are 32B. HTC Magic's are 32A.
ok well i guess the big question is dose the cam work on 2.0 roms?
im guessing that the cams are both the same but was looking at a 2.0 rom made for the sapphire only and it didnt say that it didnt work.
G1 or Sapphire
Is the sapphire as good as the dream as far as capabilities. I had a G1 and loved it but unfortunately i dropped it off a roof at work. I was pretty familiar with all the featres and was using a Cyan ROM. Is the sapphire as versatile as the Dream?
2.01 roms on saphire
I have been using manups 2.01 eclair rom on my saphire 32b for about a week now and have been quite surprised at the speed and funcitonality differences. Unfortunatly the camera does not work, but i am sure manup will fix this. But overall I am very happy with the saphire/mytouch.
i recommend the magic to you, it's just so much better looking than the dream. to help you with your rom questions: it's only a matter of time, til the first 2.0 oder 2.1 rom, which supports camera and all the other beautiful features, will be released. for now, i've been using "crusorsense"-rom (a sense-ui/"hero" rom) for about three weeks. it's the best rom i've ever seen! battery life and performance are even better than while using orignal rom.
There isn't any Android 2.0+ camera or bluetooth driver for the Sapphire yet. And we probably have to wait for a HTC update with those before any developers will make these work.
But why not get a NexusOne or a Droid instead ?

It depends what you expect from daily use ... I use bluetooth every day so it makes it impossible for me to use any hero roms.
As for Android 2.0 bluetooth is working and someone has the camera working in the dream development forum, they compiled their own driver using some of the 1.6 binary and a bit of guesswork and got it working, camcorder does not work yet but it won't be long before this makes its way to 2.0 roms (sapphire uses the same driver). The graphics acceleration still sucks though, making it jerky to swipe on launcher screens as well as anything else that uses gpu (which is what is stopping me from moving to a 2.0 rom)
I second what ronni.rasmussen said, why not get a Nexus One or Moto Droid? Or even an HTC Hero or Droid Eris. There are a lot of better handsets out now that leave the dream and sapphire a long way behind in terms of specs.
Btw sorry to be a nitpicking bastard but not all HTC Magic's are not 32A, it depends on where in the world you buy your phone and on what carrier. I have an HTC Magic and it is a 32B.

MyTouch Vs Rogers? Fastest Sense Rom for the MyTouch?

OK, so the MyTouch and the HTC Magic at Rogers (http://www.htc.com/us/support/magic-rogers/downloads/) look like exactly the same phone - but the rogers has had a 2.1 + Sense UI update and its faster than any other Sense UI rom here at xda.
What are the differences between these two phones? Can we port over the rogers 1.5 w/ Sense UI to get the fastest Sense UI rom on the MT3G?
Is it against the forum rules to ask a Rogers user for their serial number so I can download the update from HTC's website and work on porting it myself? If not, would anyone be willing to PM me their serial so I can get to work on it?
The thing is - speed has always been an issue with sense roms - the rogers has other bugs but maybe the speed increases would be enough for users to start using this rom (if we could cut it) and then we can fix all the bugs HTC won't fix in it. And yes, I know this is based off of 1.5 - but its also written specifically for similar hardware. - Granted, I understand the difference in RAM between the 32a and 32b devices (288 vs 192)
Isn't Cursorsense already based on the Rogers rom?
it is, but its been made for the 32A not the 32B, 32A has more ram than 32B so we need a smaller, less intensive rom like the rogers.

Giving HTC phones Sense is based on the phone provider; ROGERS decided to give HTC Magic users Sense UI, some other people are not so lucky as each provider wants to customize each ROM to their own liking (adding their own apps, wallpapers, boot up screens, etc) and some want to add new features like Sense.
I hope people also realize that the update ROGERS put out was NOT 2.1. People have to stop thinking this; the ROM is still 1.5 and the 2.1 update is supposed to be coming out soon.
If you want a Sense UI, download one of the 1.6+ ROMS, ROGERS was a good ROM while I had it but there was too many bugs in the ROM itself; there are probably better, faster ROMS already out there that are vastly superior to ROGERS ROM.

The OP clearly stated he know it was 1.5...
To OP:
The ROM is a 32A designed ROM. I don't think any amount of tweeking will make it run better on a MT3G to be frank.

The original post has an edit; I didn't see the last part until after my post.
Best Rom
search for binary100100 he ported a rom too the 32a (fender/1.2) but it is a g1 port with support for the mytouch original and the new ones as well as all the g1's out there..
on my friends g1 it boots in about 1 minute 30sec
and on my 1.2 it boots in under a min..
anyways its like KiNGxKlickDroidEris2G1 just search for it or look for Binary100100 who ported it and he has a link to the original thread
Dude... the thread is from may 2010!!!!!
the rom runs flawlessly, it boots nicely, nd with the CR_Slide OC it works even faster, the kernel frm the overclock puts my 1.2 mytouch at 845mhz
with an already stable nd speedy sense rom!!!
damn its fast with that kernel its booting faster than ever

New To MyTouch3G - ROM Recommendations?

Hey guys...
My wife has a MT3G (T-Mobile US), and lately it has been running horrifically slow. I've been thinking about flashing a custom ROM to her handset, but I'm not sure if the benefits will be worth it.
I have an HTC HD2 that I've been flashing for a few months now (SD, NAND, etc), so I'm not new to flashing ROMS. I am, however, new to the MyTouch 3G. I've never really messed around with it. I just started reading some of the tutorials on here today...
Anyway, I'd like to get her phone to perform better.
Can anyone recommend a good ROM to flash for performance?
She doesn't need crazy apps or features. She has typical cell phone usage habits, like calling, texting, pictures, facebook, and a few games. That's about it.
Any help is appreciated!

Well... depending on what kind of MyTouch she has would depend on what would be best for her. Seeing that you are in the United States I will assume that you have either the standard 32B devices or the newer model with the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top (also known and referred to as Fender, 1.2, LE and "the-one-with-the-3.5mm-headphone-jack"). All honesty she might as well stick with stock for stability. Most custom roms are stable so don't get me wrong but some members complain that CM 6.1.0 rom (for example) makes their phone run slow. Others like the stock rom because they swear that it's faster. Being comletely honest here most of the MyTouch roms that you'll find here will be for the 32A type devices (foriegn hardware that would be incompatible with yours). This is because all of the 32B devices (USA devices) are also compatible with the G1/Dream. So instead of managing two different threads for two different devices for the same rom we just direct MyTouch 32B users to the G1/Dream section. I know it's really complicated but in a nutshell... if your MyTouch is ordered from T-Mobile USA then you should look toward the G1/Dream section for your roms because there are more posted there than there are here.
I'd have to say out of the custom ROM's I've tried, I like CyanogenMod 5.0.8 the best. That's the one I've kept on my wife's phone since I rooted it back in June. It's very stable and get's you the nicer feature's of Android 2.1. Honestly though, staying stock is probably the way to go. If you've got the older 32B then she should've already gotten the T-Mobile update to 2.2 and if not, then a call to Customer Service should get it. If you've got the 1.2 (3.5mm jack) they're going to start rolling out the update for it beginning tomorrow and running until the 1st of February. It may just be time to do a factory reset and if that doesn't improve performance, maybe use one of the one-click root methods, flash the custom recovery, then just flash an OC kernel.
Gio's 2.2.1 worked great and looked awesome on mine. Don has it right though, just wait a couple more days and get the stock 2.2.1 for your phone and clean it up and im sure it will play nicer.
Just a friendly word of advice. Just cause you are good at working another android phone doesn't mean another will be easy. I did lots of reading before and after rooting and flashing my phone. I still do.
Hell, now that there is mention of the OTA, now everyone wants to go back stock to get it. Instead of looking, cause its already out there, they keep wanting to know how.

Just a word of advice, if you regularly tether the phone to your computer for internet access and install the tmobile ota update, tethering will be disabled and you will have to pay $15/mo extra to keep tethering. A cs rep told me this a few months ago and that conversation was actually what finally made me root my mt3g, and I'm glad I did. I was using cm6.1 and speed was decent, but the latest nightly build had a huge increase in performance and I haven't had a single issue with stability. The new 32b 2.6.35.10 kernel has also been much faster and I have been getting WAY better reception by updating to the 2.22.28.25 radio. And universal androot method worked for me on the mytouch in the same way as any other device.
