Just checked my G1 with Astro File Manager, never knew the G1 had a built-in soundRecorder.
/system/app/SoundRecorder.apk
Is it safe to remove this?
also wonder why it wasn't included in the short cuts

i was looking for linda file manager and can no longer find it. I have a back up for it but was wondering if anyone with a g1 could search for it. So that i know if it was taken off the market or not. I'm not saying its important to me since i have a backup. Just wondering if it was really taken off the market.
Just look up linda or linda file manager
Thanks
I was able to find it just now.
i don't know how to make files in my galaxy tab be hidden, also i dont know how to hide applications in the application menu,
about the hidden files i couldnt find any thing in my root explorer to make the files hidden.
also in applications, i got into /data/app then moved some applications in order to hide them from the application menu but didn't work.
thanks
Unless your rooted, you cant hide the stock apps. If you are rooted, then the stock apps need to be removed from "/system/app". "data/app" is the location where downloaded Market apps (and updated stock apps) are installed.
I just use LauncherPro and hide apps from the app tray that way. Havent decided if I want to root my V-GT yet as I just got it a few days ago.
To hide a file, like for example your porn movie hidden so it's not seen in the gallery by your girlfriend (jk), use any file manager with root access, and put a period in front of the file name. Ie, long press, rename, put period in front. Now that movie won't show up in the list.
Not on Samsung Galaxy tab

Actually, it does. I use it regularly.
The most common problem that would cause this to not work is:
a) Your file explorer shows hidden files by default (this is more common than it should be) OR
b) there's a space between the period and the file name (note that some keyboards insert this automatically)
If that still doesn't work, let us know what kind of file and what file explorer you're using and we might be able to help.
Try Hide it Pro app. Best of the best for me https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartanuj.hideitpro&hl=pl
i'll try it
thanks
hi, does anyone know the root files involved so i can remove the samsung task manager, or at least permanently disable it
my problem is that my tab used to force close every time i tried to use it
so i use ATKfroyo, have it set to kill my unwanted apps on screen lock/unlock
but that stops working after a few minutes, (ATKpro does the same)
ive noticed that if i 'force stop' the samsung task manager, and providing i get no force close crashes
the ATKfroyo kill on lock/unlock keeps working for many hours
my RAM can drop to 40mb or less just from apps opening in the background when i dont need them to, and thats when i get the force close buzz.....buzz buzz buzz problems
i could even try replacing some of the samsung task manager files with the files from ATK and rename them so the device thinks its opening the samsung TK when its actually opening ATK, but im not sure how many files make the total app

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall system apps
and will that let me reinstall it if something goes wrong?
i would rather know where all the files are that make the program
so i can replace them manually with the ATK files but renamed so the device thinks its still there and runs AKT instead
anyone?

then install "root explorer" from the market, and search for the associated files of Task Manager (or other apps) and copy/paste & back up manually.
if it's a system app, it will probably be in /system/app; if it is a non-system app, it's probably in /app
if it's an odexed system, many *.apk's have *.odex; and they will not run without the *.odex file, if the system hasn't been deodexed yet
some have files associated to them in system/lib (e.g. such as SWYPE)
if you say "ATK or AKT"? do you mean APK instead?
Hi again,
I`m new to android and have now got my Wildfire rooted and running the latest Wilpuzzle rom.I`ve also got live wallpapers running, got overclocking running and even Angry Birds so thanks to everyone for the help and advice on these forums.
The last little thing that is now got me is can you permanantly delete trash. As I`ve been playing around I have quite often put things on the screen then wanted to get rid of the icon etc.
So I do a long press and the trash icon appears in the notification bar at the top then I just drag the item to the bin and it`s gone.Over the past couple of weeks I`ve done this loads of times. My question is- Is there a permanent delete option like on Windows or is it permanently deleted each time I drag it to the trash?
If the permanent delete option is there where is it?
Thanks again
you can remove the app by downloading apps like easy uninstaller or uninstaller from the market.
or you can uninstall them from menu - settings - apps - manage apps... etc
or if you're using launcher pro, open app drawer, long press an app and drag it over the trash can until it says drop to uninstall, or something like that.
For the built in widget's, I dont think there is a permanent delete option. But, for 3rd party apps, you can simply uninstall the app itself.
you can also delete any folders that have been created by discarded apps using a file explorer
Thanks for the replys,
I have a file explorer and also know how to uninstall unwanted apps, but what I want to know is,when you drop something in the trash can, is it automatically permanently deleted or is it like Windows trash can where the files or whatever are dropped into sit with the option to permanently delete or restore.
If it is where do I find it on the system to find the recently deleted files/apps etc?
It (The widget) is just removed from the home screen, that's it. Its not uninstalled or removed or anything. (Unless you use LauncherPro/ADW's Uninstall Feature from the Trash Can).
Widgets are basically "functioning" shortcuts like the shortcuts on your Windows Desktop (Eg: Windows Vista/7 Clock, Calendar Widget etc), and, the same effect occurs when you remove a widget as is the case with removing a windows shortcut, i.e., only the shortcut gets removed. The app remains untouched. You can add it later as and when desired.
Lastly, there is no concept of Recycle Bin in Android as far as I know to view recently deleted apps / files etc.

Thanks 3xeno thats exactly what I wanted to know.
Even though the gps is good in the phone sometimes you need to go into settings: ie to turn of hot sync or clear data and resync after say flying somewhere.
Anyway here are the two older apps you need to use root explorer or something similiar and copy them to /system/app
then use any cut (removed from market so here it is as well)
to create an activity/shortcut to them..
