phone rebooting / locking in standby - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Over the last two days my phone is rebooting repeatedly upto 20 times in a row before booting correctly (keeps halting on initial td2 boot screen). Also the phone is locking in standby mode, and will not re-activate until i take the battery out. One other issue I have seen is an error message "the charging current is not enough for device power consumption. Please shut down unused applications or switch to AC power" - when the phone is charging. Has anyone else had any of these issues, or know whats wrong or if it is fixable. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.

I had the same problems with the TD2 that a had to remove the battery and restart the device because it wouldn't get out of stand-by or maybe the device went off and i couldn't get in on until the battery was removed and replaced.
Also i had problems that my device automaticly goed out of standby in standby en asking if i want to turn the device off. Already did 4 hard resets. Nothing seems really solved the problem.
Already send the device to HTC with all these problems, and guess i get it back with same problems.
Now my device is working great. A did a hard reset and after installing a program i reboot my device. It may sounds a little stupid but it works for me. Also i installed framework 3.5 on the device now and not on the memory card
sorry about my bad english

I had this problem on the Tytn II when I first got it, and I have only had my Touch Diamond 2 for 4 days and I have had the same problem.
Its called the Standby of Death or SOD by those in the know, the phone fails to respond to a power button press and come out of standby.
I found a workaround for the Tytn II which was soft resetting it everyday, then found a better solution by not running the owner ident screen, disabling 3G and making sure no data connections were active in standby.
On my Touch Diamond 2 I've not been running the owner ident screen but have had 3G enabled over the last few days so my guess is its something to do with that, I have now disabled 3G and hopefully this solves the problem and I will have much better battery life too.

I've tried hard resetting and re-flashing different roms - it makes no difference. Also now noticing today severe battery drain, even when the phone appears to be locked up - battery has gone in around 3 hours. No idea if it is a battery issue, or hardware in the phone though

I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
EDIT: Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2 where the resolution was to get a new SIM.

I hit problem when reboot the device, it stuck in the green WM startup screen.
Nothing can do, except keep trying press the reset button....very trouble to remove the back cover.

I am suddenly having the "charging current is not enough for device power consumption" issue. It started tonight. I've had the phone 1.5 weeks, and am on my 3rd ROM...have had it running for a few days without this issue. I haven't really been having any issue with SoD...but I have been having SMS issues (after an indeterminate amount of time, I unknowingly lose the ability to send/receive SMS until I SReset).
Could this be SIM related? I don't store anything on the SIM...but it has been in 3 devices over the last 15 months. I have a brand new one here. I'm going to call ATT tomorrow and switch to the new SIM and see if that resolves anything.

JasJam lockups and screenlock not working

I have owned a JasJam for almost 3 weeks. the device was a little quirky during the first week or so but no major repeatable issues. Then my big issues began. 4 hard resets later I'm trying to decide if it's worth it.
I began having random lockups. that is if I turned the device to standby with the top right side button then when I tried to turn back on the device would be locked up. if I pushed the button more than once it would cause a soft reset or I would have to soft reset to get back on. the problem mainly happens with a micro sd card in place. Mainly happens when some sort of notification ocurrs or if the device is in fringe reception area.
the second weird problem is that the screen backlight will just come on even if I have manually put the device into standby, very much like the 6700 problems with another HTC device. Often I can put the device back to standby with the side button and within 3 - 4 seconds the backlight will come right back on. the only way to break the loop / cycle is to soft reset.
I have Phone Alarm but I have disabled it and the problems still ocurr.
I've tried everything! any ideas?
I ran MemMaid to make sure that there weren't duplicate notifications.
I currently am trialing an 8525 to see if it s possibly hardware (or atleast ROM) related.
Similar issue
I too also experience this issue with my JasJam. I am on the Optus Network (which causes problems unto itself) I have a a 1Gb ULTRA SD card in it also. And yes periodically I need to reset the device by pulling the Battery as it dosen't respond to anything.
Strangely I have a Dopod 838Pro (No SD Card and on Vodafone) and it does not suffer these problems.
Let me know if you find out anything as it would help me with getting the JasJam properly Operational.
Thanks,
Paul.
at this point I am sending mine back to iMate for repair
I think it may be a ROM issue in that the 8125 that I am trialing has not locked up in the first 36 hours a single time!

Phone not resuming from standby

In the past couple of days, there has been three occasions when the PPC (Orange m700) would not resume from standby by pressing the on/off button.
It was still on, but not responsive at all and required a soft reset. It would not wake up with a regular pre-set alarm, and nor with a phone call either - calls sent straight to answerphone.
I uninstalled some software after the first ocasion, as I though that may be the problem, but apparently not.
I can't find any other forum posts on this probelm either
Hmm, I'm having the same problem since upgrading my P3600 to the latest official HTC ROM. Unit appears to be in standby but cannot be woken using the power button. Haven't tried calling it in this state to see if a call will wake it.
No idea what could be causing it, soft reset seems to fix the problem.
Anyone else with this problem?
before i have same problem like both off u, did u install u'r device with c3 st4r wm5 cr4ck?? because when i have install with that prog my device in black screen i couldn't wake my phone again & tried to call my device but the phone not active, now i'm using the original c3 st4r serial number from dopod for free, my device just work fine
I have recently noticed mine doiing this as well, although if i hold the button down for a while it will eventually wake up. I dont have a crack for core but have a serial posted on the XXXXXXXXXX site- didnt get a serial or the program with my dopod..... can someone help me with a different serial?
Mod edit we do not make WAREZ suggestions on XDA-Developers
It's happened on mine a couple times recently. For the moment, I'm attributing it to running the gmail applet...no theory, just based on practical observation. A friend recently installed opera mini and had the same problem on his device (it's an HP6515). Could it be the midlets?
i dont use midlets, and i have the same problem and worse... some times everything stops working even in standby mode, or when i use it it crashes and i have to wait some time before using it or i have to soft reset after a long period... it is not a software problem because i uninstalled alot of heavy progs, but i think that mini sd might be corupted and the apps using it crashes,(us when i listent o the musing file paths are gone and i have to softreset)
im just trying using the mini sd as hdd in windows through the phone and do a checkdisk and defragment to see if the problem resists.. if it does ill paint blue my trinity and throw it to the see *(greek exprsion).... ime so ungry of those stuck problems, and i think we gave so much money and we cant even recieve phonecalls...its a pain in the a**
This has happened to me on occasion.
I am wondering if you guys check mail (use HDSPA?)... I have a feeling this may be the cause...
happens every now and then, suspect batterystatus plug-in which is not really meant for trinity, but could be some other software...
For the past three days the phone was frozen in the morning.
I have two alarms set to get me up, and there have been a couple of reminders (tasks), so I wonder if these are related to the problem? The alarms never went off!
Also my phone memory is now round about 12mb, so I also wonder if this is an issue?
Also, it has taken me 2 soft resets to get the phone working again after it froze the past 2 times
I have noticed the same issue for a while. In my case at least I think it relates to wifi (and maybe BT). If left on my phone doesnt typically emerge from standyby. If I switch off then I dont seem to have this problem at all. Maybe not just me?
Guys, I suspect you have a software problem. I know it's painful, but you can do a hard reset to the device so that it returns to its clean initial state and test for a few days to see if it's recurring.
Then you'll know if it's a software problem or hardware one. Also, it helps you to explain the situation when you ever need to return it.
Had the same problem. Drove me absolutely nuts. Had phone exchanged 3 times and did numerous hard and soft resets. Virtually no additional software on it. Finally resolved after switching to WM6. Thank god!
i think it's a hardware problem.
I have a trinity now, but I had this problem with my atom exec. it would do exactly that... turn off, not turn back on, power button doesn't work, people think im not answering my phone, alarms don't sound. I tried all the roms, including changing my WWE rom to a CHT rom, didn't work, same problem.
I'm interested in hearing why people think this is software related.
i have the same problem with my p3600 :| sometime it don'r resume from standby when i press poweron/off button :| any solution?
I think you'd better send it back to HTC.

Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
try this
problem phone freeze from standby often hapened to me then i try to install "SystemSecurityMonitorPro(V2.2)"
use it before turn on phone from standby
i dont know how it work but it working for me
correct me if iam wrong

I'm not going to try and correct you as there can be different solutions to the problem depending on the cause, my solution will only solve the problem if its because of the sim/radio/network, other solutions are to update the radio, get a new SIM, do a hard reset etc etc etc. If it worked for you then it worked for you and your post is welcome.

Mogul sometimes won't come back from standby

So i've only had my mogul for 2 days now and so far there have been about 4 occasions where the phone was in standby and when i tried to bring it out of standby (by hitting the power button) nothing happens. The screen stays blank and no buttons work.
On one of those occasions the screen did pop up after a really long time (maybe 20-30 seconds) but still the buttons did not work.
Each time i've ended up having to soft reset the phone (using the pinhole button on the bottom.)
Is this a common/known issue and is there a fix? I've tried searching but haven't found quite what i'm looking for.
Did you buy the phone new or used?
Did you attempt to install any ROM upgrades or a new bootloader?
The Same Thing
I have that very same issue and my phone was brand new!
I have the same issue too. My phone is almost a year old. I flashed it with the Sprint 3.35 ROM and thats when I norticed it. I've never unlocked or put any cooked ROM on this particular phone.
Sometimes I have to tap the standby rapidly like about 10 times before it wakes up.
When I first purchased, same--solution
I was ready to return mine, but what fixed the problem for me was installing a task manager that really closes the programs when the "X" in the corner is tapped, your problem is most likely lack of memory. You have many programs open then activesync automatically starts up it drains memory so far the device locks up. There are many different task managers just do a forum search. Get rid of stock rom, it consumes too much ram as it is.
I have the XV6800 and my first phone had this issue. After removing all added software, still had issue. Did hard reset, and had to call Verizon to re-program the phone. Left phone as stock and still had issue. It seems as though it is a memory/bluetooth problem. Verizon swapped my phone for a new one and have not had problem since.
Now my work got me a XV6800 and am having the same problem with it. I am trying to get them to let me return the phone while within the first 30 days. Good luck and if you can, have your carrier swap your phone.
I had the same issue after putting the latest rom on..after a while it would seem to lock up alot as well. I just recently put on dcd's rom and it seems loads better now!
same thing happening with me. it only happens when i keep the phone on for like 2-3 days without a soft reset. then when i soft reset, it freezes at the windows mobile splash screen and the only way to fix it is by doing a soft reset while plugged in. i am using key's 1.3.1 rom
sorry, i completely forgot i made this thread. I've deduced what's causing the phone to hang in standby.
If i leave any java app running and let the phone go into standby for some time (atleast 10 minutes) then that's when it will have problem not coming back.
I've just made it a habbit of completely closing any java app before putting the phone down. Doesn't happen anymore.
I had this issue a while back but it was because I was low on memory after using the phone 3 days in a row.
Ever since then I soft reset once a day or once every other day.
Other then that the last time I had issues with my phone not getting out of standby was when I was using the stock rom and my alarm clock wouldn't go off because of some weird power settings.

Phone hangs when on standby

Hi,
A few weeks ago I upgraded my ROM to toms 2.1.3 and everything went fine and has been fine for a few weeks. Then yesterday for some reason my phone stopped responding.
The symptoms:
The phone goes into standby and the screen goes off but you then cannot wake it up again. The phone is still on because the green light is flashing. If someone rings me then it rings their end but the phone still does not wake up and shows no sign of an incoming call. The only way to get the phone back on it to reset or remove the battery and power on again. I can then make and recieve phone calls until the phone goes into standby and doesn't wake up again.
I have tried soft and hard resetting the device. I have not installed anything apart from the base ROM..
Anyone have any ideas?
TIA . .
got same issue with rom from HTC (original rom ) ! it occurs twice a week and it really sucks !
maybe this is an application issue ( I guess S2U2 )
got this after upgrading to seths diamond v2,ill try another rom to see if it dissapears but there arent many neon roms here.
happened to me and still happens but reduced when i made a hard reset. also run less programs
It happened the same thing to me . After removing memory card proplem was fixed.

i think its the processor when it cant handle all the programs running set the 'X' Button to close the programs instead of minimizing them

HTC Legend suffering Standby on Death (SOD)

hi all,
i having my 1st Android phone (HTC Legend), but my set suffering Standby on Death (SOD), not sure if the right term. When it on standby, I not able to wake the phone; only way to remove the battery and on the phone again.
However, during it 'freeze' mode, try calling the phone; won't ring but caller doesn't get any engaged tone keep trying connect tone.
Please advise if any1 experience the above or any steps I can do.
** Try searching the web, only found SOD on Win phone.
Cheers.
Edit/Delete Message
The same thing happend to me yesterday, for the first time (I pulled out battery to reset it). I had a few random resets last few days, but I do use my legend for app development testing, so i'm not sure if i somehow provoked the problem.
Offtopic, but just looking at logcat output of a normally running Legend you get impression that there are a lot of unfinished stuff, especially HTC applications (news widget is terrible)
I'm also seeing the same random resets on my Legend. Not sure what when wrong. I have a bunch of apps installed but I don't know if this relates to any of them.
It happened again just now. Restarts on daily basis now
just make a hard reset
Ok. I did a hard rest. And i don't want to install any apps, let it run in vanilla flavor for 2-3 days and see if it happens again.
If it does, that means it must be caused by one of the apps installed before
I had some SOD's, but after a complete clean and reset to original setting, everything disappeared.
Maybe it was a problem coming from installed software...
clean reset, wiped out everything. reset after 15hrs of up time. i'm going to RMA this thing
Hi all - first post here...
I have not long had my first HTC handset - and I really like it, but nearly every day I get this 'SOD'...as described here.
I had to remove the battery to wake it up again only this morning.
I have noticed, that it only seems to do this when it can't recieve the weather data (under the HTC clock)? the handset never seems to hang etc while it has this data?
Have others seen this? Could it be a bug?
Why not bring all SOD threads to one?
As I see all SOD's are same on all devices.
There is bunch of symptoms but if you have sod than you are experiencing some or all of the symptoms.
General help is to hard reset few times than flash shipped ROM then hard reset again few times then flash your favorite custom ROM or leave shipped, and reset again few times. And finaly set network to GSM+AUTO in Phone band configuration. Or try to change SIM with another network operator.
All of this helped some people but there is many who did not solve the SOD with this nor anything else.
I know I am posting in more than one thread same thing and it is not double or triple or X posting it is just help request for people who could finaly understand what is problem and help us all.
Sory, and thanks in advance.
Weather is not problem on my device, I did try turn it off, disable auto update of everything .... no difference.
Even I leave it connected to USB and it have the internet connection all time and I do not have SOD, I have DIM of death screen dims not turn of and if I disconect it and pres power to go to stand by or to turn off screen I can not power on device until i pull battery out few times - 4 - 5 timesto be precise or sometimes even more.
I got a new replacement unit and it works fine since. I guess my old unit was really defective
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
I have had to have my handset replaced now. My SOD contiuned and then the Mic gave up and no-one could hear me in calls - made it unusable as a phone. I also had battrey issues where the phone wouldn't charge and the battery meter read wrong.
All seems fine with this replacement handset.....
