I know other people are struggling with Wifi. It does not even turn on.
I have tried several roms and different radios but wifi just will not turn on.
It used to when I was using the original SPL but since I upgraded to SPL 1.54 so I could use the newer 1.56 roms, wifi has not worked.
I have also tried HardSPL from Olinex but same thing.
Does anybody know if it is just the older Touch HDs are affected or is it just a random few?
More importantly, doe anybody know a fix for this?
Thank you.

Moved out of dev!
First you need to find out if you have an issue with your device.
Re install stock SPL, then your stock rom.
Then check your wifi.
I have not read of people having issues with wifi and can not work out why SPL would effect that.
OK. Here is my story. I bought HTC Touch HD from ebay (Orange one). Used USPL to upgrade ROM. Didn't do anything (it was SIM locked, I was using turbosim). It worked perfectly. Can't understand why that happened, but wi-fi stopped working 2 days ago. Simptoms, when you try to turn wi-fi on, it's just going round and nothing. The only unusual thing I did was, I put SIM card from another provider for a couple of minutes.
Steps to solve this problem:
1. Unlocked SIM, CID, Security with olipro's tool . Thanks to Olipro. Now it is SIM, CID, Security unlocked. Wi-fi did't work.
2. Installed HardSpl 1.56Olinex and WM 6.5. Everything was working like it should be (GPS, Bluetooth, GSM, GPRS, Edge and etc). Wi-Fi didn't work.
3. Restored original SPL 1.14 and Orange ROM. Everything is working. Wi-fi doesn't work.
Opened HTC Touch HD service manual. Read from the begging to the end. The below are some extractions from that book:
---------------------------------------------------------
13.Wireless connection (WLAN/BT) not functioning
(1) Make sure the wireless environment is OK before connecting to WLAN.
(2) Make sure the wireless connection setting has properly set.
(3) Make a life connection with Internet or another device.
(4) Try to re-flash the ROM code. ----->
(5) Try with another main board if necessary
(6) Once the defective part has been identified, verify the defective part again whether the symptom could be
duplicated with another unit.
-------------------------------------------------------------
L1. 6. Memory card for ROM code re-flash ( must be encoded by HTC) HTC design
--------------------------------------------------------------
So, "try to reflash the ROM code" is the interesting one. But were to get that memory card for Rom code reflash.
Wi-fi is a real pain for owners of the HTC devices, just search the web. But it looks like, something has just stuck in my device, and I just need some special program or tool to change the status of my wireless card from from "off" to "on", so Windows Mobile could see it. Can anybody help us.
I had a problem when going to 1.56...and had the wrong SPL. Used CrackWhore's guide, and got 1.56 working. Then later found out that Wifi wasn't working and kept defaulting to airplane mode. I went back to CrackWhore's guided and followed it again, and this time the Wifi is fine and after two days it seems everything is working. You might try that as the SPL may be wrong.

Hi everyone !
I'm new here (in the Hermes forums). I have a prophet, but now I bought a Hermes.
The guy who originally owned (the phone is used) told me that when he flashed it, he had this problem that I'm going to tell you now, so I really don't know what could had happened to him during the flashing process.
The problem I have is that the Hermes works very well, the Wifi, bluetooth, card reader, everything EXCEPT the PHONE, let's say, the GSM interface.
When I turn it on, everything works well, (I DON'T SEE THE 'NO GSM' THING), and I have the antenna icon with the exclamation mark (!) next to it. When I go into there, in the phone configuration, if I try to select a network manually, after a few seconds it says that it can't retrieve the list of networks, that I have to try later. If I go to the band configuration, and I put it to use only gsm, for example, after a few seconds it says that it can't change the configuration, that I have to try later.
I tryed with different sims, of different companies.
When I bought the phone, it had a spanish Schap's 3.54b, and the Olipro 2.30 spl.
I tryed hard resetting, but nothing. I flashed the original shipped rom WM6.1 WWE, downloaded from here, and nothing. NOTE: I had to flash with the sd method because if I try to do it with the computer, I have the 260 error (or 262 i dont remember).
I changed the HARDSPL to theOlipro 2.10, hard reseted again, and still de same thing.
The IPL is 1.04.
NOTE: When I flashed the WWE rom, I flashed the .nbf file inside, but the SPL.nbf I didn't flashed.
What can I do? ANY SUGGESTIONS ?
I read a lot of things in the forums and in the wiki, but nothing. I've just finished downloading the Schaps WM6 4.31, now i will try to flash it with the sd thing.
Also, I have the protocol 32.80.7020.20H. I've read it somewhere but I don't remember what the protocol is. I HAVEN'T CHANGED THIS since I bought it, could that be my problem?
Currently, I have this (before flashing Schaps):
-Device Information:
ROM: 3.54.255.3
ROM DATE: 07/05/07
Radio Version: 1.47.00.10
Protocol: 32.80.7020.20H
ExtROM: 3.54.255.104
-In the bootloader:
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Maybe the antenna is no good...
1st thing I'd try though is to flash a new radio on (use sd card method). Worst that can happen is "No GSM" but as you can't use it anyway theres no harm in trying...
Check what radio rom you have 1st though so you can flash back if need be.
If you can get a "broken" Hermes (same model is best) then you can replace parts and see if that helps. I did this and found one of the parts that was causing a problem with my jasjam was the flywheel.
Do a search for the HTC service manual or go to Mike Channons web site to get heaps of manuals and tutorials...
Cheers...
The phone is near new, let's say, it was used for less than a month, he had it a week or two and then flashed it and had that problem, so I don't think that it's and antenna problem, and if it hadn't antenna, it has some signal of some kind.
Any other ideas?
I changed the radio when i Flashed the WWE version. I'm now downloading this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298520
Any suggestions? is there any problem using the AKU 3 or something?
Thanks =)
Hey,
What about the protocol version? can I change it? how? cause I flashed it and the radio changed but the protocol is the same.
I'll try to flash it with windows vista, to see if I can, because XP won't let my.. olnly SD flashing
Ok, I Installed a cingular flash, now I've protocol 32.67.7020.10H. Radio:1.34.00.10 and still having the same problem. I don't know what to do now... any suggestions? !
thanks
PD: also tryed putting a little piece of paper over the sim but it didn't changed anything
PD2: The error I get when I go to Phone Settings -> Netowrk, and I choose "Manual" is: "Unable to read setting from the netowrk. Try viewing settings later, or disconnect data connection and try again.
I have been running a version of pays build since last feb.
lately a few things stated to get buggy, alarms, notifications and internet connection stability.
It would attempt to connect id see the 3G turn to an H for a few sec and it would go away and never show up again until I did a reset.
I dealt with everything until the internet connection became too unstable.
At 1st I just needed to rest the phone once in a while, to a few times, and then the last draw was when it took over 15 resets to get it to connect to internet.
I have reflashed my phone and the internet connection seems to be doing the same thing again.
So this has me thinking it’s physically a bad radio or the software for the radio is corrupt. Since flashing the phone to most new roms does not change the radio.
My phone is a herm200
The radio I have been using for ever that worked for me is 1.48.00.10
my phone is running PDACornerPro.V27
I have the proxy disabled
Do you flash a stock rom 1st then the other roms, especially BS roms as this may help the unstable issues.
I would suggest doing some research on what radio rom works well in your area as you may need to upgrade BUT I wouldn't start flashing radios to test as they are the cause of most permanent bricks if things go wrong. If you do need to flash a new radio I'd suggest the sd card method, I'm assuming you have Hard SPL V7 installed, and make sure you use a 2Gb or less card formatted FAT32.
I would also suggest doing a check for bad blocks before flashing the radio as it may be that too.
Radio rom flashing is REALLY the last thing you do....
Hope this helps,
Cheers...

Click to collapse
so i should flash the official HTC rom or a lite rom with nothing added and then the cooked rom?
bad blocks? how do check for those.
thanks
Do a search for bad blocks 1st, connect to mtty and type in info 8. if you have bad blocks type task 2a.
There may be "bad blocks" as the carrier sometimes brand the phones. These can't be fixed.
Find a Stock rom, most people use AT&T, either find the version that has had the radio removed or remove it yourself with a little surgery using a program called ROM Koch. It allows you to break the ROM into .nb files eg. os.nb, radio.nb...
This means you can then put the ROM back the way you like... I'd suggest to put back everything but the radio and keep the cooked "stock" rom. It is still a stock rom but you don't have the inconvenience, or potential bricking, of your Hermes to worry about. Then install the Rom of your choice...
Don't use a lite rom as they have been cooked and altered.
Cheers...
so far no luck.
i still get spotty connections. if it connects i am good for a while if not i have to reset the phone and hope for the best. it could take many resets.
1st i flashed this
official_AT&T_WM6_striped
then i flashed this
V15_M2D_Plain_3G
I updated the radio
from
HERM_Radinly_1.48.00.10
to
HERM_Radinly_1.56.70.11
I uese this to configure my wap settings
cingular_wap.wpbear_Proxy_Folders.cab
I even swaped my girlfriends sim with my sim to see if it was an accout
or sim problem.
the problem still stays with my phone.
Now i am thinking this could be a hardware problem.
can a 3rd party battery cause odd side effects like this.
Thank you for your help ultramag69.
Alot of your tips helped me get a stable rom flashed to my cell.
I the end i think the cab file i used to configure my att internet setting caused the network problems.
I now manualy configured it and have had a perfect run so far.
i also reflashed every thing starting with a att rom.
I looked at the media net and mms setting and used those after i flashed
V15_M2D_Plain_3G.
setting on the att rom
TCP/IP and Servers
select-> Use server-assigned IP address
setting used on config cab. I think using the ip address caused me the problems.
server ip
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Update phone is acting twitchy again with its internet connection.
Everything is the same as above.
The phone worked great this weekend and now it has yet to keep a stable internet connection.
Now I am really thinking it hardware problem.
Something gets loose or loses tolerance maybe heat or some thing like that causes the module that controls the network connection to fail.
Anyone have any guesses or tests?
Maybe att is messing with my device...
Hi,
I have an Orange M3100 which has been flashed to WM6.5 and works fine, other than on boot up it intermittently gives NO GSM errors - despite this, the phone works fine, it is almost like the radio doesn't initialise quick enough. Anyway, I decided to unlock this phone and the unlocker v3a software bricked it, so I reflashed and all was well (but still locked). I have since tried flashing a variety of radio roms using my pc in an attempt to get rid of this error, using SD card method but all of them hang/fail when it comes to updating the GSM rom. I'm currently running the 1.47 radio rom.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? I have tried to revert back to the original Orange rom to no avail (can't flash GSM), have tried the trick with mtty and erasing certain areas of rom to no avail, is it screwed? I just can't understand why the phone works fine, yet I can't reprogram the radio rom!
Cheers

hermes has two cpus, one is for multimedia, the other is for gsm(radio),if the on gsm problem occurs sometimes, it must be hardware problem, dad sodering,if the problem is always no gsm ,then it software problem, hope it could help you. i think yours is hardware,
I'm having a 'strange' issue where the phone part of my HD2 doesn't seem to work. This is an HD2 that was locked to T-Mobile, but is now unlocked. I have used it with my O2 sim for around a day and a half just fine until some time this morning it lost the phone connection, and doesn't show the operator for this reason. Obviously I can't make or receive any calls or send or receive any texts. The 'Phone' is turned 'On' in the Comm Manager settings, and I've tried to turn it on and off, hard reset, reflash ROMs, and so on.
I have flashed HardSPL and was using EnergyROM, but have now flashed back to the latest official HTC ROM (1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE) which has radio 2.06.51.07 and protcol 15.30.50.07U. I also tried HTC ROM 1.43 (radio 2.04). Before flashing the official ROMs, I had not flashed any radios so it was left as the original that came with the phone.
The 'strange' part is that mobile web/internet works fine. When reflashing to stock ROMs (or any ROM for that matter) it finds the SIM just fine and recognises it as O2, and comes up asking which settings I want to use (it finds a couple of valid possibilities, O2 UK, Tescoe Mobile and one other), so it must find some sort of network.
Has anyone had any issues like this? Is there anything I can do, or is this a case for contacting HTC?
The SIM works just fine in my old Touch Pro.
Thanks for any help!
hello guys, I have a HTC Touch HD and I have a problem with wifi networks .. I flashed the 'hardspl 1:56 el' axlor 6.1 as in the guide, but I'm not the most research of networks (not see any network) I tried to put all the radios, but nothing ... not even manually entering the keys wpa or freeing up the network I can not connect ... I tried to restore everything, but the problem persists ... can anyone give me a hand?
i have the same issue !!!!!! any one help please
My wifi connects to networks but the phone doesn`t browse the internet.I`m sure it has something to do with some setings but I don`t know what. Can anyone help?
without further information it is impossible to help you. what kind of network is it, how is it encrypted? what rom/radio rom are you running? is it your private network? do you have the key for it? what are your settings that you suspect of making it not work for you?
It`s a student public network on my faculty. It`s open for everyone to use.And they use it without any "encription" or password.
Bought my phone used.I guess it was all set to work, but I installed some rubish I couldn`t delete...rest of it you can predict.
I returned my phone to factory setings, and since then wifi doesn`t work.Everything else works.
OS 5.2.21855(21855.5.0.85)
manila version 2.5.19211619.0
Radio version 1.09.25.14
Thank you very much in advance!
ok, that is something to work with. your rom is not a shipped one, and from the version number, i can't tell, who cooked it and how old it is. however, it might be a common bug of that rom that wi-fi doesn't work properly. also, your radio is fairly uncommon, most people these days use the latest radio 1.17.29, which can be found on the forum. remember to perform a hard reset after flashing another rom or radio rom. in general, one can assume, that, once you flashed a shipped rom and the latest radio, the software on the phone is as it should be, and if wi-fi doesn't work then, it might actually be physically broken.
