I'm happy with my new Jade so need to sell my Wizard, so what's the best way to delete all my settings, installed programs, history, etc?
Do a hard reset to eliminate all input. The unit will now be as received when first purchased.
So to hard reset I:
"Hold the comm manager button and the voice command button at the same time. While holding these push the soft reset button. Keep your fingers on the Comm and voice Manager button. After about five seconds a screen will appear asking you to press the green send button."
Just to confirm if I do this no one can retrieve any of my settings?
A hard reset will work. To be completely clean, especially if you have a custom cooked ROM, I'd consider reflashing the device with a factory default ROM just to make 100% sure.

After a hard reset, no one can access any of your settings. If you have installed a custom ROM, it will still be there, but without any of your input.
Thanks, that looks like it worked. All I need to do now is find the manual and get it on eBay.

Hi everybody,
I just can't seem to reset my K-Jam. I tried it a dozen times but it still is a soft reset. Ok before everybody get's angry: I know how to hard reset (hold the two side top buttons and press the reset button). I tried it in different timings like first holding down the two side top buttons then pressing the resetbutton and holding it for almost a minute. Or first pressing and holding the reset button and then the two buttons but it is always a soft reset.
I guess it is a soft reset because I don't get the calibrate screen thing.
Any tips here because I want to get rid of the slowdowns from the virusprogram....?

Hi,
I had the same problem. Theres a facility in settings called 'Clear Storage'
start>settings>system>'Clear Storage'
this actually does a hard re-set.
Thanks Webster,
I didn't think of that one! That did the trick!
Wouter
Hold down the Comm Button and Voice Button continuously while tapping the reset hole.
As long as you keep holding down the two buttons, the screen will go black and soon prompt you to hit Send to hard-reset (wipe the unit), or any other key to continue with a soft-reset (reboot).
Thanks Beyondthetech,
I'll try that next time when I need it  .
Great blog you have! Has been very useful in making up my mind.
I'll install TT 5 later now I know how it can be done.

Just a small update
Just to let you guys now. I finally found out the proper way to hardreset.
The trick is not to let go of the Communications and Voice Command button until you have stopped pressing the soft reset hole. Just wait with releasing the two buttons until there is a message on the screen asking you to press the Sent key to hard reset.
Another funny thing is that you can restore a backup (made with Sunny Backup) on another K-Jam device. It still runs. This came in handy because I exchanged mine for another because of some hardware problems.

Which one is the "Sent key".
the telephone "call" key (green handset) (left side)
Can someone please advise me, I've brought the Xda Mini S today. I am trying to pefrorm a hard reset and following the instructions from the user manual but it keeps on performing a Soft Reset instead.
What do I do? Please help!
start / settings / system / clear storage enter 1234 and away you go!
Thank you very much Lord Buckingham, it's done now!
Thanks again!
So why doesn't the manual say this, and they way it says doesn't work?
I had same prob, so did a quick search on here. Great wealth of information!
some of users said they were able to do hard reset by buttons,
holding those buttons and quickly pushing soft reset, they said it realy hard to find moment to release buttons...
anyone know the button combo? TIA

There is no timing...
Just press and hold comm. button and the voicedial button.
Than put your stylus for one sec on the reset hole and still hold the 2 buttons mentioned above.
Than the phone will boot and you will see a screen asking you to press the (green) send button to hardreset.

i had the same problem with hard reset yesterday (my first hard reset ever . after a few tries i found that most proper way to hard reset device is:
1) press & hold comm button + voice dial button
2) press reset button (while holding buttons mentioned above)
3) KEEP HOLDING comm & voice dial buttons
4) after a while hard reset is done, so we can release all buttons
big thx eva_d!

This has been the best forum i have come accross. My phone function ends up as being a blank in the task manager and i constantly by mistake quit i while i am trying to quit something else. a proper pain...
I am tryin to hard reset the phone so i can set it up in corporate mode...i just seem to be completely unableto get it...i have been trying to hold the two buttons and press reset while still holding the two buttons....five minutes later still nothing....arrgh. Any solutions....
This is from the manual:
To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the Comm Manager button and Voice Command
button on the device.
2. Keep the two buttons pressed, and at the same time, use the
stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button.

it is frustrating at first but it is easier with practice. in my experience i released the stylus after about 5 secs and i was prompted with a question if I wanted to format the device [hit send button to start]
Do you really need hard reset?
Did you try clear storage?
Some times it is enough to clear your phone...
If you're feeling generous, can you try hardreset using VJEschaton?
I've never tested it on WM5 hardware, I haven't had a good reason to hardreset yet.

VJEshscaton now works on the Wizard, although I think there are easier ways to reset our phones Eg, using them!

Hi,
Desperately trying to hard reset an MDA Vario.
Holding comm button, voice command button and hitting reset but after 100 times its just not working.
Is there another way of doing it? Just what am I missing??!?!
Thanks in advance,
HPJ
You are doing it the correct way, after you hit the reset button you should see something like "Press send to restore factory default" you should then press "SEND" ie: the green telephone button.
You could also try "Settings/system/Clear Storage"
Cheers.
That did the job, thanks. No idea the usual way would not work, and its good to know that 'clear storage' performs a hard reset....I orginally thought it may only do a soft reset!
Cheers
Could it be that you were still holding the buttons in after you pressed reset?
You have to let them go as soon as you press the reset.
Cheers

as well, I struggled with this for ages as well. On my Wizard with the latest imate ROM you have to HOLD the Comm Mgr + Voice Dial (and when still held in) press & release the reset button BUT CONTINUE TO HOLD THE TWO BUTTONS until a message appears on screen saying press the green send button to Hard Reset
Dave idea "Settings/system/Clear Storage" is better..i was struggling with hard reset
how to do hardreset??
I was going to say RTFM but amazingly enough this is not mentioned in the FM...
One way is to press and hold the Camera and Comm Manager buttons simultaneously and then press the Reset button (through the small hole at the bottom of the phone.
Another way is Settings -> System -> Clear Storage.
Before you do this, keep in mind that Hard Reset will wipe all your installed applications and data. Make sure that you have a good backup before proceeding!!!!

I tried this numerous times but instead of hard reset the soft one occured...
EDIT---> It does work indeed!!
Actually, abubasim just forgot one miner detail:
It's camera + comm manager + power, hold those 3 and soft reset. A black screen should come up saying: "press send to restore defaults". Press the green phone button to complete hard reset or any other button to cancel.
Hi,
For the people who have received their HD (mine is on preorder at the mo.), how are you finding the reliability of the phone. My Hemres and Kaiser left a lot to be desired needing a soft reset every day or so to keep them working properly.
Strange things start to happen to them after a few days, for example notifications for email and incoming calls would stop working, the clock on the today screen would stop displaying all the digits. Oh yeah, same thing happened after a hard reset and different firmware versions.
Thanks,
Mike.
I have the HTC Touch HD a few day's now and i only need it to soft reset because Windows Live (Messenger) was f*cking around and could not stop it.
I'm sure this would relate to what ROM you're using. The stock ones have always been problematic. But build the right custom one and you should only need a restart once a month or less.
no need of reboots after many days of trials. The red button is the only one i didn't try yet!
Do you guys know how to hard-reset this device manually...I mean using the buttons..?
Hard-Reset using Windows OS option I know...but how to hard-reset this device manually?
Nara: There's a button next to the MicroSD slot for resetting, I guess that'll do.
According to HTC's site the following procedure is also for full reset:
Code:
How do I perform a hard reset?
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
On Topic, I've had mine since last monday, and haven't had to soft or hard reset it even once.
Only soft reset I had to do was on purpouse to apply some tweaks.
it is not noticeable if one leaves windows xp/vista on for a a day+ that it becomes sluggish? well, windows in general need to be reset once a day to work properly ie..win xp/vista, so the same routine is especially applicable to windows mobile.
Blackstone SIM card?
Does it take a SIM card. Obviously I live in the US & have AT&T. I can't find any information anywhere that says it does or doesn't take one. & do I want the VAT? Don't know what that is but it definitely costs more money.

Hi!
My only problem is the screen with the clock, has changed and now has a silhouette of the woman you would use for a blank contact, and the clock has changed to a small clock with thin numbers.
Changing things in settings, today, doe not help.
I will do a soft reset in a few minutes.
