I have been trying to install the Android SDK Driver for amd64 included in the SDK.
When I plug in my device, nothing happens, the SD Card shows up mounted. But If I try to update the driver this happens:

okay, to actually be of assistance instead of giving you a hard time, try narrowing down your driver locations. select your Sdkfolder/usb_driver/amd64 and you should be good to go.

No he should not get assistance if he doesn't do what every other responsible forum member does. Search for the answer. Google and Forum searches will answer 95% of the Questions posted in Threads in this sub-section.
The development sub-section is for just that DEVELOPMENT. By helping a noob with these types of post you only encourage the behavior.
This thread won't be around long enough for him to read it.
thank you brown-noser. but I'll help to the best of my ability whoever I can.

I didn't know that trying to install the driver for the Android SDK (also known as Android Software Developmental Kit) for the purpose of debugging and transferring applications I developed would not belong in the development section.
Now if your warrant for being a complete ass about it because if this is for the development of Android the OS, and not applications, I am sorry, but there is still no reason to be a complete ass about it, even when the topic does pertain to the section.
When you are done pretending to be an elitist, who knows everything about everything, maybe you can quit thread-****ting, because you are not a moderator. Also thank you for showing me the Search function. I realize its there, I signed up so I could use it. I also used this new-fangled search engine called google to search for my problem and couldn't find it. Which is why I posted here.
Denkai -
Unfortunately that did not help. When I click USB debugging on my G1, should a 'Found new Hardware' dialog come up? When the button is toggled, the driver doesn't change on my PC.
MOD BREAK
show respect for members as you would want shown from them to you.
thank you

Come on, the Dev forum is already full of threads like this which have nothing to do there!
Jeff, all you need to know is in the XDA Sapphire Hacking wiki and the CyanogenMod wiki.
Read and don't ask people to hold your hand. If you don't understand something then search the forums for an answer... and if you still don't understand then don't do it.

I didn't say post there. I gave him the link to the Noob-resources topic. Why don't you click on the link before replying to my post and think.

We all know you're new to flashing a new rom and so were all of us, and we all had questions, so most of the ones you'll come up with will have already been answered somewhere in the forum.
I would start with the CyanogenMod page Its perfectly laid out and will walk you through it step by step, go at it and have fun. If you have questions, look for answers on that page, if you can't find them, look in the forum, then if not there, post a question in a thread applying to your question.
Why was my thread locked/moved?
Thinking of posting a new thread?
Search the whole forum using the search button.
Not having any luck searching? Remember that this is a computer. If you want to know why your having an error and people keep telling you to root, search "root eris" or "root desire"
If any mod, including myself, continue to find new threads about topics that have threads already existing.
The thread will be locked with no notice and/or the user may get a temporary BAN!!.
Mods, including myself, are not able to see/do everything. We need your help to keep things organized, clean and grouped. Having an organized forum helps new members find help easier and keeps older members from getting gray hairs.
To the dedicated members that care to keep this and all other forums clean, organized and grouped:
Please start reporting threads to the mods to take action. Using this button.
Thank You and happy easy searching.

Ok, Latley i keep seeing more and more stuff that does not belong in the dev section and its making things not very organized. This makes the Moderators and Admins do stuff they shouldn't need to, but since most people doesn't realize this. Maybe once they read this they might know.
~Stuff that belongs in DEV Section~
1.) ROMS
2.) Decussion of Root
3.) ROOTING APPS
4.) Mostly Deveoplement for things that contains rooted needs for our device.
~Stuff that doesnt belong~
1.) All APPS. Meaning APPS that run on the phone such as a .apk (POST HERE FOR THAT!
2.) General Issues ( POST HERE FOR THAT!
3.) Duplicate Post. Please search the forums before you post.
4.) porablly more just i dont have the time to type everything out this morning.
*MODERATORS + ADMINS PLEASE STICKY THIS IF YOU WANT*
Please don't Flame me. I'm just trying to help keep this place organized.
What belongs in development section: development stuff
What belongs in general: General stuff
What belongs in themes and apps: Stuff related to themes and apps
What belongs in accessories: Accessory stuff
I just don't get how this is confusing.
New q&a section: Threads moved
Today (Aug. 8th) a new Sub-Forum was added for the Eris, as a result I moved many threads, if you find yours is missing from its spot look there first before PM'ing me.
Thanks,
Captainkrtek

Development Overview
The development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback, and to contribute to the common goals developers are trying to achieve.
If you are new to our community then I welcome you and encourage you to read much more than you post and spend lots of time learning from wealth of knowledge that is available to you. If you want to truly understand your device and how to modify it then you are in the right place. If you have no interest in learning and contributing to development then I ask that you respect our community and our goals when posting.
What threads should be posted in the development section?
It is really very simple!
Before you post a thread in the development section, ask yourself what are you developing.
If you can’t answer, then you probably need to post your thread in the TouchPad General or the TouchPad Q&A section!
It is NOT the place to post a question because it gets higher traffic.
Do you have a question or need help?
If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already discussed and solved. USE SEARCH FIRST!
If you have a problem with your device, it's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread. Please read every sticky and search for guides and notices. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue, then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the TouchPad Q&A section and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
*Portions of this post were kanged without permission from Senior Moderator/Recognized Developer pulser_g2http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2178960
☞[WARNING: READ ME 1st] If YOU DID NOT CREATE "it" THEN IT DOESN'T BELONG IN HERE
NOTICE: If You did not create the ROM, KERNEL, FIX, MOD, APP, HACK, GUIDE, or if it's not a SOURCE CODE then it should go to Galaxy S Advance General section as it doesn't belong in Development.
If your thread can be phrased as a question, it DEFINITELY doesn't belong in Development either, post it in the Q & A thread in the General section. If you post it in Development it will be moved/closed and you may get an infraction or a ban.
There is only 1 exception, stock ROMs are allowed, as long as the link does not require a registration to download the ROM.
You may start planning a [DEV] topic in the General or Q & A section and then have it moved to the Android Development section once the actual Development has started.
☞ Development is classified as original work and/or documented edits and changes made to others work (with their permission) that makes it your own.
Stock ROM dumps that are modified (deodexed, etc.) from the manufacturer's original intent and then repackaged together classifies as development.
Kernel's and Recovery obviously classify as development as they are modified and compiled from source
☞ Themes are graphical/visual changes made to a ROM which make's the ROM visually different from the original work, i.e. different battery icons, a blue-color scheme, etc. They may be packaged up together with a full ROM and deployed the same way. Simply running a script (not made by you) to deodex and then packaging other people's work/MOD's into one place does not constitute original development.
Follow the FORUM RULES and the XDA MANTRA and we'll all get along and enjoy this community!
Thank you for your cooperation & thanks to jerdog for writing this wonderful explanation.
Regards
'cooleagle'

Thank you very Much I'm really really sorry I will make sure to Read the rules before first
Found this AMAZING (outdated) GUIDE posted by @Andy 4 years ago.
So Here's an Update :good:
How To Search XDA Forums
XDA Forum Rule 1.
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Firstly you need to identify what you need to find.
Aww, that ROM I like. The download link doesn't work. I need to find a working link
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Now, enter the ROM thread you wish to search & click this button -->
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now enter your search term -->
Wow, there is a few results. What next?
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Now XDA has done a little of the work for you, you have to do the rest.
IF after exhausting every post that is returned from the search you cannot find the answer. Use the same technique that you just learned to search the General & Q&A forums.
This time the button looks a little different. Don't let that put you off. Click this one instead -->
But Wait, I'm using the XDA App!
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Have no fear, you don't think XDA would have an app that wouldn't let you adhere to the rules, surely not.
Just open your XDA App, hit this -->
then this -->
and THEN type what you're looking for -->
If your lucky enough to have a hardware "Search" button, you can hit that too.
Now if you still don't find what you are looking for. You may post.
Failure to adhere to the XDA Forum Rules may lead to a Warning and/or Infraction.
