problem with SD card - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello.
I received my HTC Magic today. First thing i wanted to do: put some music on it.
So my instincts got me to plugging it into the laptop with the USB cable. Great; a removable disc appears. Happiness ends when clicking it; it says: "please insert removable disc", as if it doesn't recognize the SD card.
Any suggestions?

Once you hook up your Magic to the PC, you need to click Menu>Notifications and then press the button to mount the sd card.
Make sure you unmount it before disconnecting it from the pc.

thanks a lot man! Couldn't be simpeler.
Where could I have found this? I searched my manual and some google hits, but didn't get anything.
Cheers.

No idea if it is in the manual, I didnt read it.
When you hook it to the machine you get a notification in the title bar on the phone, gives a hint there.

question about minisd card?

Do I need to do anything on the phone before I pull out the minisd card?
Do I need to do anything on my pc, before I pull the cable, when the phone connect with the computer?
On the phone, just make sure nothing is being written to the card. Probably best if nothing is reading from the card either. So at least pause Media Player. Generally speaking, if the phone is off (not all the way off, just turned off) you should be okay. Interestingly, when you eject or plug in a card, it turns the phone on. I guess this is so it can inform programs that the card state has changed.
For the USB cable, similar rules apply. Make sure nothing is being written to the phone. I find it interesting that PPCs don't require an eject on the PC side. You don't even get the little tray icon to eject it. I guess because PPCs used to connect via a docking tray, so they wanted it to be able to be dropped in and just lifted out at any time.
On a separate note, I've noticed that when I unplug my miniSD card and plug it back in, I can't see the card. I have to eject it and plug it in several times for it to finally show up. Anyone else have a similar experience?
I don't have the problem you said, maybe mine a new minisd card.
actually, i do have that problem, when i plug it in and look under system>>memory, it says "not installed". i just go into windows media player and update my playlist and then it's all good.... but there has to be a better way, anyone know how?
on a side note, does anyone have suggestions for a good mp3 player, maybe something similar to itunes?
thanks
check spb softwares for Benchmark utily to check your memory card performance before buying it.. it is a very good... utily..
read the spb note before using the same..

G1 won't sync with Windows XP?

Hello all, Dutman here. My g1 works flawlessly and it is rooted(JF 1.43) but I seem to have a problem. when I connect it via usb the LED lights up and it shows me it's charging,, but it doesn't ask me to mount files or the USB in general. This could be due to the fact that I am missing the little usb cover piece, the one that is like really bendable, it sort of fell off. I don't have that anymore, could that be the problem in why my G1 isn't syncing?
Try rebooting your phone, i found sometimes with JF firmware for one reason or another the mount does not work after long periods of use... probly nothing but worth a try. If you are using a Windows 2000, XP, or Vista computer, it should just work automatically so my advice would be to try it on another computer to determine if your computers the issue.

Not likely. Power cycle your G1 as suggested by crackmunky and verify that your USB host controllers are functioning correctly within Device Manager.
If you are using a USB hub, try plugging directly into the PC. I've had no end of trouble syncing windows mobiles in the past when connecting through a hub.
Trouble syncing
Okay, My G-1 is connected through the USB 2.0 cable directly to my computer and it is not recognizing it at all. I open the My Computer link, and it says that there is a Mobile phone. And it has a removable hard drive thing. But I click on the removable HD link and it tells me to insert a disc. And I click on the phone, and it is telling me there is nothing there. Please help, I would really like to sync up with my PC at home so that I can add music and tones to my phone.
OS is Windows XP SP2
G-1 is Firmware 1.1
does the phone show that there is an SD card in it?

If you look at the taskbar on the top of the G1 screen, you should see the USB icon up there on the left. Drag that taskbar down (same as you drag your Menu up) and you should see a bar that says "USB Connected". Click that bar and you will get an option to Mount your device.
I had the very same issue when I first got my G1. It took me forever to realize I could drag the top taskbar down.
When I open the SD Card cover on my phone the system unmounts the disk. I suspect that it has everything to do with your missing dust cover.

I don't understand your reaction.
I just verified it again, went to he sd and phone storage option in settings from the home screen. opened the SD card slot cover, rotated it down (if the phone is flat face up, my cover was facing the floor) and the SD card section goes from

nope didnt happen for me... maybe my phone doesnt have that function....lol..
I bought mine retail the week of valentines day, maybe it is a different version. I'm running the stock ROM 1.1, I didn't get it OTA in a timely fashion so I forced it. Three days is fine for a spread, but "by the end of the month maybe" is stupid.

[Q] Mirco SD Card Problems?

Just got the phone and am having a problem already. I am unable to mount my memory card onto the phone. If I mount it is just disconnects a few moments later. I have tried multiple cards and I know they all work.... gutted....
Make sure your back cover is on properly, I've noticed that when I take the back cover off the sd card unmounts and won't mount until its back on, its part of the design.

Try restarting the phone it would not recognise my SIM card until I restarted it.
cheers guys...I managed to get it working. Not sure if this is what did it but I mounted it then for the few seconds it was mounted I unmounted it; then plugged into PC which somehow recognized it even though it wasn't mounted at the time.
And ye I noticed that little white switch at the back which if you press down it unmounts the mem card.... never seen that on a phone before.
Cheers ppl
Hi!
If you have the case pulled from the phone, your SD is dismounted. Why? If yoy see your phone without case you must see a strange botton in the right of the flash, press it, if this botton is pressed, your SD works; when the case is on the phone this botton is always pressed.
Regards
Yeah that took me four hours to realize too...
Damn back cover!!!
I was just glad I read this topic before I got my play
I had 1 corner that just didn't clicked at first but I didn't notice untill I noticed no sd card was mounted.
Stupid Button
Oh my gosh, thanks guys! I have been messing with this stupid thing for hours! Why the extra little button Sony? To drive your customers insane?
I don't know why SE do a back cover control mounting SDCard..........
I had tried half an hour to find this problem when I bought the play...........
just return and exchange it!
theyve added the button so that we dont corrupt our SD cards, it automatically mounts + unmounts, thats a feature we should be happy about

PC no longer sees NC.

Running CM7 N100 from SD card & my PC used to see the NC & I would get the notification on the NC. When enabled, the SD card & eMMC would be mounted. Now I get nothing. No response from PC or NC. The NC just shows charging. The only thing that I know for sure that has changed, is last night I did a Windows update. Any clue to fix this will be appreciated.
Thanks,
kev
Update: Powered off with USB cable connected to PC & heard a bunch of USB beeps off on off on then as the NC was booting the PC showed the drives the way it's supposed to & when the NC was up it showed the USB icon in notification, but when I press "USB Connected" I don't get the button to enable the connection & the sd card & eMMC are not mounted o the PC. I have read of someone else having this issue, but can't find the thread. Any help?
Update 2: Read elsewhere that someone was told to use a regular micro USB cable to fix this same problem, so I tried it & it worked. Then I tried it with the NC cable & it worked, so I don't know what just went on here. Are we getting bombarded with gamma rays from the sun or something?
i dont get anything when i plug my NC into pc now....
It just started this last night.
I have searched and can not find anything, so I am charging it and about to update or restore from backup. I just got everything the way I liked it
THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS
Did you get any indication on the NC's status bar?
No indication what so ever. I finally wiped the NC and did a restore and that fixed it. I think it has something to do with the new nook tweaks USB host mode

Cannot get phone to mount as mass storage anymore

Well pretty much as the title says. I have never had a issue with it before, but as of today it will not for the life of me mount. I sometimes (after many tries) get the windows 7 pc to the mass storage device but when I click on it it just loads forever before freezing up and failing to load any files from the phone. Then after being disconnected and reconnected I cant even get it to let me mount the device.. When I click mass storage it goes to the confirm mount page, but when i try to mount it again it just clicks but nothing happens.
I have no idea what is up. I have ordered a new usb cable but im not sure thats the problem.
Has anyone else had this issue? What was the sollution you came across that fixed it for you. Any help is appreciated.
Plug it in and go to device manager. Delete it from device mgr if it shows up. Reboot.... plug it back in after reboot and see if it recognizes it. Should reinstall itself and recognize.
Let me know......

Had the same issue about the time I first moved to GB, turned out to be the cable but the timing of when it happened had me pretty twisted.

I can once again see the device (drive H but when i click to view or explore it completely locks up the window. So its unable to access the device but it does however know its there. I can access my device with adb as i tried it to see if I can atleast get it to communicate.. but have no way of accessing the sdcard via mass storage :-(
*update* Well I really wanted to get some files (audiobooks) sent over.. so I gave the kies air a go... That seems to be a decent temp fix.. and over a gigabit connection to my wireless N phone the transfer speeds are probably on par if not faster than usb... atleast it seems so.
prolly the cable
happened to me before
the sdcard can be read through an sdcard reader, just not through the phone.
The usb cable would charge the phone but it wouldnt connect for NOTHING. I would tap connect, it would press but then unpress as if nothing happened. just following the motion of my finger.
Found a BB cable a couple weeks later after i lost my stock one, and my phone was picked up by odin, adb, sd card, blah blah blah
it was so funny cuz i was blaming my pc for it instead of the cable cuz it worked so well for me before until i plugged my phone in on a friends comp and it didnt pick it up, but when i used his HD2 cable, it went through without a hitch.
TL;DR
Kies air will do till your new cable comes in.
Are they any issues or quirks with the phone reading the sd card? We've had a rash of epics come in lately where the sd card port has gone bad. Just making sure it's not that (but it's a very easy fix, the port is actually removable and we get them shipped to us as a new part.)

I get this on froyo, can't connect, every once in a blue moon it does, when it dosnt I use dropbox, kies air works good also. But on GB it works everytime, same cable, go figure
