ok so i was messing with adb and was trying to see what needed to be pulled to have my application data backed up, not the apk's but the saves in games like mystique for example. I want to wipe my phone but still keep my game progress. when i pulled apk's before from data/app the app still ran fine so i figured it wasnt actually pulling but copying. so after messing around a while i decided to just pull everything with "adb pull data C:/" well everything pulled fine but then i seen right away no apps worked. whoops lol. anyways i want to push it all back to the phone but some files from data/data for example show as com.whatever in adb but once on the computer show as an xml file. is there anyway to push everything back to the way it was? not a big deal if its not, i just didnt want to lose game progress. the phone is ridiculously slow and everything force closes so i wanted to start fresh without losing too much, apps to sd is terrible for me. so, any help
P.S. if your gonna talk **** about me cause i messed up, dont bother, i was bored and figured i'd see what i could, it's my phone, not yours, if you wanna help then great, i appreciate it.
It would have been fine if you simply rebooted instead of trying to push everything back. You probably crashed something when the pull locked some file that was in use. When you pushed things back, you screwed up all the permissions. There is a fix permissions script somewhere posted on this forum, it might solve some/most of your problems, or it might not. A wipe will get you going again, but I know that that isn't what you're looking for.
The application data is stored in /data/data/app-path. If you collect the directories corresponding to the apps you want to save, then do a wipe, rerun those programs to recreate the directories, record the permissions on the newly created files, push back the files, and then finally restore the permissions, you should be able to save all your data.
Note: the forum search button might help you find the fix permissions script.

I've pulled lots and lots of times but never had the experience that you had. A pull should just be a copy.
ya when i played with it before all it seemed to do was copy, but when playing with it this time it wasnt even letting me push an apk back which was wierd. i created a nandroid and wiped it last night in case i need to go back to how it was for some reason. i've used that fix permissions script before and will run it again after i fix this. using what you said before i seemed to figure out how to get it to work again. i installed the app again and ran it like you said so the directory is back, and then went all the way into the directory and pushed the files back. i never even though to open up the "com.whatever" in data/data. thanks for your help

i had to go it the hard way
just went ahead and Wiped my phone.
it was less painful than i though it'll be, it was within the calculated parameters of the process involved to get your device up to speed in record time in a massive failure
so once the phone booted back into the OS, the very first thing i did was to setup APN
then sign in to my gmail account, BAM! got all my pictures, phones, contacts, calendars, etc, every thing back
then next task was to install AppsBrain, hit sync and BAM! i got my list of 400+ apps to install back
now i'm clicking through about 800 times install, okay, continue LOL :r
and i'm rather surprise Android Market, and the OS hasn't crapped out on me yet with the massive deluge of files action
it's install faster than i though... only 200+ apps to go
and about 15+ more email / IM accounts to join back into the system, and reconfiguring 400 apps
the Titanium Backup backed up files got wiped out in the process
at least i'm getting a good vibe out of this, it means the upgrade to Froyo will be just the same
the phone is HOT of all the 3.5G activity
the actual 3 button reboot to Recovery Mode + Wipe data and reboot back took less than a minute.
chances of missing a call during this time is quite low
SMS will be downloaded as soon as your phone goes back into OS, so chances of missing out on an important SMS is very unlikely
another interesting i noticed is that the File System is not choking up as it did before the Hard Reset.
before i couldn't get more than 4 apps downloading/installing concurrently in parallel
right now i'm doing around 10 at a time, and it doesn't slow down.
what gives?

Really? Maybe i should wipe my device to
Installing more than 3 apps at the same moment.... it´s just a pain...
exactly, normally when you try to download and install 4 apps simultaneously it gets sooooooo slow, worse than a snail
but for some odd reason right now that is not happening, it's smooth download and install, i wonder that's the difference
recommend you buy/install mybackup pro.. you can reinstall a bunch of apps without it prompting you for each one... i think if you pay for titanium backup it does the same..
i frequently copy the appmanager (diff app i use) and titanium backup directoryies from internal to external sd so i have have a backup in case of a full reset ..
i also set mybackup pro to backup directly to external sd.
yeah, that was my problem i forgot to move a copy of titanium backup from internal SD to external SD
otherwise i'd not have had to go thorugh 800+ clicks to say OK to everything
LOL
well... after aprox 250+ apps/games installed the phone is going back to its old self slooooooooow when you try to install 2 or more apps concurrently.
and the list of Manage Apps takes a while to load up
so it seems like the sweet spot is to keep less than 200 apps on the phone to keep it running silky smooth
Thanks for the report and the painless part, AllGamer.
May have to try it one of these days if I screw up.
After reading you post, I move the Titanium Backups to SDcard
just so I don't forget. Now have to remember to update it.
I can't even imagine how you have 800 apps on your phone. I just counted and I have 21, and to me that is a lot, but perfect.
not 800 it's 400 but for each install you need 2 click
so that's 800 clicks
Can you do a write up on step by step how to wipe and reinstall the (JH2) ROM, kernal, modem etc for i9000M?
All of a sudden, my BN library is gone. It was there earlier today. Right after I downloaded some more books, my entire library disappeared. My sd card read fine. All of those books are there. It's just the BN ones I have downloaded. My NC is rooted.
Please, please, please...can anyone help me?
This is really odd...did you try logging into your account online to see if all your books and things are still there? If they are, it probably shouldn't be too hard to fix...go to your library on your nook and hit the sync button and see if it comes back.
I know...it's so weird. All my shelves and mags are gone, too. I checked online. They are all there. I have tried sync, but it won't do anything. It does not reload them. I am so stumped and upset.
Please help!!!
Something else I noticed with the missing library
I had a couple of books on the home screen. I can open those. That tells me that they are somewhere on the NC or it wouldn't open. At least, I would think so. Am I wrong? I know I didn't move anything.
When I got the new downloads this afternoon, I had to stop the download do to work, so they never completed. It won't sync. I think it's because it sees the files somewhere, but I have no idea where. I went into Astro library. I can only see the 2 guide books that come with it.
I hooked my NC to my PC. I can see the BN downloads there. Even weirder.
I am a teacher. I teach an AP English class. Of course, my copies were on this library and now I can't access them.
Can anyone help me with this?
please help?
Newest development. I went to download the new freebie of the week and it worked. It showed up in my library like it is i suppose to. Is there a way to move files? Where do I move them to? Can I temporarily move them and put them back and they show up? I can see the others when I plug the NC into my PC. If I take them out, reboot, put them back there, will that work?
*banging head on wall*
help?
I could really use the help please
tried something else - didn't work
I went and deleted all downloads from BN (after I backed them up on my computer) and rebooted. I thought that if they weren't there, I could re-sync and download again. Nope. That didn't work. I could only redownload the one from this morning.
That would lead me to believe that there is some command screwed up.
I am now out of my element. I can see the downloads when I go into Astro. I just can't read them in my library.
Help...I am desperate.
Anyone?

This really doesn't make much sense to me...my only guess would be to try moving the files around from your internal memory to your sd card or something and see if you can get them to show up. Your files are there but your library app seems messed up...I'm not sure what to do about that man. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help you out.
I did a factory reset. I have my library back now, but I can't root it. I may just leave it. I was playing too much and not reading the material I needed to anyway. I just wish someone could have helped me, but it's ok. As much as I wanted it rooted again, apparently it won't let me now. I have been trying for 3 hours. *sigh*
Same.
All of a sudden a bit earlier this morning, all my books disappeared. It has happened before and I found that the best way to fix it is to reboot it. .
Same thing happened to me. It's a brand new device. I looked online and they're all there, but there's no way to redownload them to my nook. Will be calling nook support tomorrow.
I can't find this anywhere else, so here goes. I downloaded Plants vs Zombies, it worked for a while, then I ran Link2SD and move it. It starts to load, then goes right back to the desktop with no error.
I unlinked it, same issue, completely uninstalled link2sd, put a different SD card in and it does the same thing. this happened with another app, and once I moved it back to internal memory, it worked fine. Not so lucky with PvZ.
I have to assume that there is still something written in a file somewhere that is causing it, just no idea where to look.
I am running Thor 14.2 if that is any help
I also used Switch me, thinking that may help.
Any ideas are appreciated, at this point it is not so much that PvZ doesnt work, though my kids love it, it is that I would like to know why something doesnt work.
i have considered going into CWM and formatting internal memory, but that seems drastic.
Thanks in advance

Only thing i can think of is to look for a folder with the title or Developers name on it . Delete that then reinstall the game. if you are root go to system/apps and look for it there and delete ..
Other then that Post this in the Rom Developer's thread..
So I was trying to move some files around on my a500 today, backing up stuff, getting things organized, when I came across a pretty frustrating problem.
My Iconia will stop responding when trying to copy / backup / move certain files. Sometimes it does it with a book, sometimes with a picture, either way, once it decides it cannot move that file, the file is stuck. It's been doing this since I got it and it kinda feels like an issue one would have if they had a bad memory card. This is definitely the internal Acer memory though.
My question is this, is this a known issue, do I need to send my tablet back to Acer, or is there a fix for it somewhere?
I think it's a limitation of how the transfer protocol works. Some large files won't copy too/from the device properly. I really can't find a real pattern to give a definitive answer.
Hmm... Well, the file that I'm trying to move right now, is 1.4mb. Not very big at all, and it stops responding.
Well, it maay have just been my laptop, its old and picky and a complete piece of junk. Using a file manager my tablet has 0 problems moving things around on its own.
Sent from my A500 using xda premium
This is a known problem. I haven't yet come across it in the ICS leak, so maybe it's fixed there... otherwise just 'cp src dest' in the shell (needs busybox), which works reliably.
I run into this problem occasionally when trying to move a file. My solution is to copy and paste it and then delete the original. For some reason it copies just fine but when I try to move it, it fails.
I'm rooted on stock N910VVRU2BPA1 with the Emotion-TW-5.1.1-nightly-r21-RC1-SM-N910P Kernel
I've been reporting that KingoRoot corrupted my phone. The symptoms were swipes lags, typing lag delays, Wi-Fi lags before it turns on and more problems. I fixed the performance problems and it is too good to be true. I went through a lot of trial and error but here is a synopsis of what I did.
I used Root Browser to change the name of every file and folder inside the efs folder. I just added a 1 to the end of the names so I could revert back if needed.
I rebooted the phone, went back to check the efs folder and it had regenerated everything I needed to keep. And it didn't load the junk files. The phone runs like it's using AdAway on steroids. give it a few minutes and it will rebuild the advertising host files. But the best part is it didn't load the spyware left behind by KingoRoot and KingRoot. That keyboard lag was probably spyware recording keystrokes and the lags navigating were probably due to conflicts between the Google host file and the spyware. I don't know for sure but Now, Even the ESPN website loads fast on Chrome. I just did this today so I'm still testing but I haven't got a phone solicitation since I've done this. I don't know if it's a side effect or what. But that would be great
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEXT: I found a fix for the Wi-Fi lag turning on and the phone forgetting the Wi-Fi password. I went to esf/carrier/HiddenMenu and changed it from off to on. Then I used the app Phone Info Samsung to do a RTN reset from Secret Codes menu. My Wi-Fi is back to normal.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I actually did the Wi-Fi fix first, then after I seen it had corrected that problem I Odin back to N910VVRU2BPA1 re-rooted, Restored my TWRP backup data then I did what I'm calling the SPYWARE FIX.
But the best part is it didn't load the spyware left behind by KingoRoot and KingRoot. That keyboard lag was probably spyware recording keystrokes and the lags navigating were probably due to conflicts between the Google host file and the spyware.

Is there any evidence that Kingoroot installed spyware? I used it and haven't experienced any of the issues you've reported.
Very nice! Is this in relation to and correct your DM-Verification problem?
Also do you know what files do not need to be in that folder/subfolders? It looks like there is a bunch of junk in mine, especially the files with very long alpha-numeric strings, but I am not that familiar with how the folder works and what may not need to be there.
What is the RTN fix for WiFi? I see it listed in the app, but not sure what it will reset.
I've been using a Note 4 Dev Edition for the past year, rooted and running MOROM. My issue is that the WiFi connection will just disconnect for no reason and it will not show any WiFi devices unless I turn it off and then back on. I have to do this a few times a day.

I read that the RNT reset clears more personal information than a normal Factory Reset. I did it without a sim card inserted.
I fixed the performance problems but it still says DM Verification failure in stock recovery. That doesn't bother me. as long as the phone works.

I did a test and even KingRoot puts junk in the efs folder. KingoRoot is what caused my DM Verification failure.
your mileage may vary
Are there any specific files that either KR or KoR place in the EFS folder? I'm not familiar enough with the folder and what should or shouldn't be in there, it looks fairly junked up on my device, but then again all the files I have in there could be legit and needed.
Maybe we could all contribute to am EFS Cleanup utility to prevent the spyware mess of this convoluted rooting process? Haha.
best day ever

This has been the best day ever as far as performance. I don't know what it was but I deleted something that was really slowing the phone down. I started with a phone that I was going to crush then make a warranty claim because it was operating so poorly. I don't need to do that now. For the record, I call some Google and Verizon software " Spyware " it was not just the rooting process. It would be interesting to find out what was in those junk files but I have seen no adverse effect by renaming them. Then after I seen they had been regenerated I made a backup copy then I deleted them.
I have went ahead and used this method of renaming all files and folders inside of EFS, and it regenerated most of the folders and everything, the most marked difference was inside the SFS folder, in my old renamed folder I had about 25 files with very long alpha-numeric strings, now I only have two files in there. Can I, after backing up just in case, get rid of all of the files/folders with the 1 at the end? Will leaving them in there do anything like slightly increase RAM use, or are they just there but dormant?

I wonder how much space is allowed in the efs partition. I ASSUME my TWRP backup could restore it if needed. Also I made a copy of the 1,'s then deleted them. I see no reason to look back. Life is good.
Do you feel the speed? I have re-deleted everything inside the efs folder several times. Every time it regenerates.
EDIT: Another benefit I,ve noticed is the time of the post is correct now on XDA before It always would show the wrong time for a post.
Hard to say it's not placebo, but actions on the phone actually feel a bit faster, for instance the animation for unlocking the phone seems to go at a quicker speed and an already slightly laggy game itself, Star Wars Heroes, seems to run somewhat better now.

I noticed after I deleted the files the phone asked me again for my preferences on some things and Googles targeted ads have gone away. And I haven't received phone solicitation since I've done this. I'm wondering if there was a file in there that was advertising my phone number.

So when doing the RTN Reset, you're phone is reset (like doing a factory reset) and you have to set up all your info, settings and apps in it again? If so, I would hold off doing that, as that would take me a lot of time. But I could still try the ESF folder trick and see if that helps. Since I have the Dev Edition, it is rooted without those King apps, so probably no spyware on it.

The only WiFi issue I have is that the phone will lose WiFi connectivity a few times a day and I have toggle it on and off. But the phone has done it on every ROM that I have tried, so it could be an issue with the hardware itself.
I did edit all the files and folders in the efs, and the phone is working a bit smoother. Before, the unlock screen was always slow and stuttering, but now it is smooth and fast.

I don't even know why any of this is working but it is. Use your own discretion.
After some more testing I had to undo the renaming of a few of the files and place them back in their original folders to fix VOLTE/Wifi Calling/Bluetooth that stopped working, can't find any other issues so far though.

It would be good to have a list but I've fixed two phones that I was ready to trash just by deleting everything. Last year I had Verizon remove HD calling from my account because my calls were more distorted with HD calling. I have a separate Google number and it works on Wi-Fi better than my Verizon number.
Although now with the Spyware fix my Verizon calls are clearer. And This is day three without a solicitation call. UNREAL
Nice! Is there a way to get VOLTE without turning on the HD Calling function? With it turned off my phone calls go to 1x mode and I can't do any data related functions while on the phone. Maybe something is messed up on my end configuration wise that only allows that functionality with it turned on?
Second note anyone have any idea what all the files in the SFS folder are? I had almost 20, now down to 4 and everything is working as it should.
