I have an unlocked rogers magic on att. I don't know what the heck is wrong but I have had to reformat the phone SEVEN times today. This is asinine. The first 3 times, I was in use of a program. The 4th thru 7th times, I was no where even near the phone. I tried to narrow down what apps are cause this and I can't figure it out. It seems to happen primarily when the phone is plugged in. I had a 4gb SD card in there but I changed it to a 2gb to make sure that wasn't the issue. It just goes into an endless loop at the HTC screen and I have to reformat. PLEASE HELP
As stated before - I think its a faulty unit/handset - take it back for an exchange.
It seems like the issue is occuring when I am doing things with an alarm. I used Klaxon, built in alarm and another one from the Market and it always seems to crash then. More often when it is plugged into to AC.
Okay... The issue is definitely any sort of alarm function. Whether I use Klaxon or the built in alarm. It was perfect all morning. I had even rebooted it and it worked fine. I set an alarm and not even 90 seconds later, it is off and back into the loop. Any advice? I can't go without an alarm.

I have the same issue when using WakeMe Alarm Clock, less than 5 mins after install my phone starts looping. I just started using the regular alarmclock and the problem never occurred again.

Interesting. I had no others installed yesterday though (I think) and used the regular one and it happened. I will wait till I get some sort of reliable backup program before trying again.
EDIT: AND WakeMe Alarm was the first one I downloaded. Interestingly enough, when I wiped the phone, it was STILL on there
I have the same problem, help me please!

hi!
i have a small problem, namely that as soon as i turn on my alarm to wake me up in the next morning, the alarm always goes off at every full hour beginning from 10 o'clock and it doesn't matter at which time i set the alarm. so for example if i set the alarm for 11:30 the alarm will start at 10 o'clock, then again at 11 o'clock and then at 11:30. I already had the same problem when i was using FInixNOver 3.2 so i upgraded to 3.3. it worked for one day or so but then the problem came back. does anyone have a clue to what's going on in my trinity ?
Hi.
I don't know if this well help but as far as I know, relying on the inbuilt system's alarm clock to work properly is a waste of time. Mine used to go off intermittently. In the end I did a hard reset and bought a 3rd party time software (I recommend Spb Time). No more problems.
thankyou very much for your help. unfortunately i haven't tried it out yet, because the problem somehow seems to have resolved itself for no apparent reason. i will see how long this will go on and once the problem occurs again i will do the same thing you died.
thx very much again tho for your reply!
I've read a lot about people having issues with their alarms. This morning, I had the first one of those.
Alarm was set for 7.30, when I woke up around 8.30 and picked up the phone, it seemed the clock was stuck at 4.30 am and took about 3 seconds to update (not the fancy HTC clock, the one in the notification bar!). I went to bed last night around midnight and didn't touch the phone all night.
Alarm did not go off even belatedly once the clock updated. This is also not a recurring alarm issue since I only set this one last night. Also not a sound issue, the volume was up quite high and not mistakenly set to silent as has happened to some people.
Has anyone else experienced this?
(and yes, I'm still running a T-Mobile G2 stock ROM, too much of a chicken to update to the new leaked ROM! Hoping HTC will roll it out officially ASAP!))
Thanks for any input!
I've had the same problem with my Hero, and I had the same problem with my old XDA Orbit (also made by HTC) that was running Windows Mobile.
I wonder if it's a hardware issue with the way HTC interfaces their firmware with the hardware clock or something like that.
i do also have the same problem, sometimes. it helps to simply reboot the phone. i don't know why it goes in some kind of "deep-sleep", but i hope it will be fixed in the next update.
I've had the same thing (ish) but it was just a crash - I'd been installing and uninstalling apps all night, didn't reboot my phone before going to bed at 11pm. When my alarm failed to go off, I looked at the clock and it was stuck on 11.03pm and the screen wouldn't slide down to unlock, so it had crashed just after I'd gone to bed.
Since then, if ever I'm installing and uninstalling and testing apps and fiddling with settings, I always reboot when I'm done just to make sure nothing's misbehaving. Not had the problem since.
I tend to turn on the alarm each night and turn it off in the morning.
Not had an issue with it failing yet.
Not that that is the right way around it as it should go off at the same time each day when left on all the time.
But it may help if some are having a recurring issue.
Since I have got it (2 weeks ago) i have picked up my phone make a call, and on about 7-8 occasions, have noticed that the phone is turned off, and I can't get it to turn on. The only solution is to take out the battery and put it back in. Has anyone else experienced this. I have updated to JH2 firmware, but it still happens. I even got a new battery for the phone (Bell employee let me swap with another phone that was going back to samsung for gps issues), but the problem still happens once in awhile (like every 2 days, sometimes more sometimes less). Anyone have any ideas? thanks
More likely that it just "freezes" and you can't get it to react, then the solution is to take out and back in the battery - Sounds like a defective unit to me.
i think your phone was unable to wake? i have that problem previously where i can still call through my phone (using another phone) but there's no vibration / notifications of sorts.
i then realized i've been playing with SetCPU of late, long story short, i uninstalled the application, rebooted and all is fine since then.
good luck!
if it still persists, i'd do a reflash, wipe every bit of data available + formatting my SD cards. lol.

So..are you saying that the phone is actually still 'on'...just the screen is not turning on?
yeee sort of. lol. but why it's unable to answer, yet able to receive calls. i have no idea. same goes for any kind of notification that wakes your screen (SMS, calls, alarm, etc.)
Next time it happens, i'll try calling the phone to see what happens...I dont wanna return it because I have a 'rare' phone that seems to have good gps and can enter recovery mode.
you should check bell to see if there working and have recovery mode i got my just recently the newer shipments are hopefully all working with recovery mode and good gps
Did you install any Lockscreen app or something similar? I´ve read about another guy who had similar problems with a not waking up device. And it was a lockscreen app that caused this.
Yeah, I agree with everyone. I had SetCPU on my device and it would shut off a bunch of times per day. After I unintalled it everything worked fine. Another trick you can try is when the phone "freezes" try to hold down the home key. You sould still get the task manager box.
My first SGS did this a lot. My second and third SGS have not done this. Conclusion: faulty.
Yep...
I'm with mine for more than three weeks now, and I've never managed to cause it to freeze/shut down. although yours considerable rare, You'd rather have a working device I presume...

No, i haven't installed any apps like that. Like i said, GPS works 'ok' on this phone and it enters recovery mode. Thats why I would hope its a software thing and can be fixed. I will go back to get an exchange today ONLY if they let me try it out 1st (recovery mode).
I've had this happen twice, both times I was charging the phone with the screen locked and the cable was accidentally violently jerked out, after that my phone wouldn't turn back on without a battery pull. It has not happened of it's own accord though.
I am on my third SGS from Bell Mobility. I returned the first two because of the same problem. I would be using the phone like normal, and at random times I go to make a call or something, and notice that the phone is turned off! On my last 2, i couldn't turn it back on using the power button and assumed it was turned off, so i would re-install the battery to get it working again (until it would happen again a day or two later).
Well, today it happened for the first time on my third SGS (on the 2nd day after i had it). This time, i decided to hold the power button for about 10 seconds to see what would happen...and the phone restarted (didn't re-install battery like i used to).
What could be causing this? I thought it was a defect in the phone, but this is the third one to do it. It happens randomly (sometimes every 3rd day, sometimes everyday). Anyone know what it could be? Could the phone just be 'frozen' in sleep mode? (meaning the phone is still on, just the screen is frozen black)...or could the phone actually be off? Thanks in advance!
The same happened to me several times, but since i changed the default home screen mananger, it never happened again. So, maybe this is a software issue, i dont know.

default home screen manager? could you please explain that to me (noob!). thanks
Just download from market Launcherpro or Adw launcher and Home switcher to set default layout.
Btw it's strange, because my SGS havent hanged up even once since i have it.

I have the same problem. But it happens at least few times a day. I have to check my phone is on regularly to aviod miss call.
I am using a rooted JF7 ,anyone have idea how to solve it?
SetCPU is known to cause that.
The device shuts down automatically.
Just realized WHEN this happens
Happened again today... I tried calling my phone to see if maybe it was just stuck in sleep, but it went to voice mail. This is very annoying because i cannot rely on my device to be on when it should be (ie- for an alarm) The only way to get it back on was to either re-install battery or hold down power for about 10 seconds. This is my 3rd SGS and it happened on the 1st one and the 3rd (only had 2nd one for a day).
I just realized today that it only happens to me at places where i have no signal. It happened at work 5 times (where i get no reception), and once in the forest where i was bike riding. I was in an area that showed no signal, and shortly after the phone was off. (it doesn't make any shutdown noise or anything, I just realize sometimes the phone has randomly turned itself off.
Could reception have something to do with this? Now that I think about it, the 1st phone i had also turned itself off at work....never at home. Will 2.2 fix this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Three handsets exhibiting the same problem?... I'm starting to think that this might be somehow related to your sim-card...
just leave the phon in stock and it'll work better
once you start adding apps to change the normal stuff, weird things happens

A sim card can cause glitches in how a phone works? That's interesting...how exactly is that possible?
As long as you weren't installing any 3rd party application which can cause this and there's no strong electro magnetic field nearby, which might disrupt your sgs ... I can't think about nothing else...
if you can try a different sim card for a day or two, maybe you'll figure that out...
Hello all,
the weirdest thing started happening a few days ago...
first off, let me start off by saying that i am using the default alarm clock. i have already gone throgh the problem of the default alarm clock not going off from time to time... but i seem to have fixed this issue.
so... the other evening i told my girlfriend to lock my legend after she had been using it. the alarm clock was set (i have it set on "daily"). Ok, so morning comes and the alarm clock goes off. Then i realized something was wrong. The phone was turned off. In order to stop the alarm clock I first had to go through the standard procedure of entering the pin code etc. Then once the OS was loaded and all, there was no way to stop the alarm. So I had to shut the phone down again. As frustrating as it was, I though this was my or my girlfriends mistake, as one of us surely had to turn the phone off by mistake before we went to sleep. But this problem keeps on bugging me for the third morning now...
I am positive it's not me... it's the phone.
Has anyone else had the same problem on their legend/android based phone?
If so, does anyone have a solution to it? Before, the alarm clock worked just fine... now, for the last couple of days it seems it has a mind of it's own.
Thanks in advance,
jlasic
Another thing I should have probably mentioned... this happens when i have the phone plugged into the computer via usb cable. dont know if this is of any importance but i thought it would be best to let you guys know.
ps. the darn thing happened again this morning.
hope someone can help me out.
Hey there,
Not sure why it would cause the phone to shutdown, but I recently wondered why my alarm wasn't going off sometimes..it turned out that Task Killer was ending it..dunno if that helps, but thought I'd let you know .
