Hi im loving my new toy so far, teeters a bit too adictive though. I just need a torch funtion ie puts the screen upto full brightness.
i use this little freeware.

Ralph - Taschenlampe
Well, Ralph, I wanted to try the Taschenlampe, but it wouldn't install. I managed to unzip and save to harddisk, but when I executed the .exe I got a blue bar on top of the screen with the word Taschenlampe in it , but no x or - in the upper right corner, and the rest of the screen stayed all white. Nothing else happened. Any other "bright" ideas ?
I would say, there is nothing to install. Just put the exe on your mobile and start it -> screen becomes white and thus spends some light in the dark. that's it . Or am I wrong?

You are right, that's the sole purpose of this app.
pLamp
you can try this one as well http://pda.jasnapaka.com/plamp/releases/1.5.php it even has different colours of light :-D

can it be done?
the problem starts when trying to use "destinator" (a navigationg software) at night, and having it nightblind you into an accident...heh
the screen is just to bright at night and i am too lasy to dim it ....lol
besides, it would be so much cooler that the time based auto dimmers ....
if someone cares to take it as a project, PLEASE!, here are some notes in no particular order ...
1. several dimming levels to select (both for day time and night time, maybe sliders)
2. taskbar icon for easy on/off switching
3. screen "undimming" on key press option (only as an option, not a must)
4. auto load with windows, and resident in memory (obviously)
5. program's definitions must override the windows' brightness definitions ! (only if the program isn't turned off )
thanks !
p.s.
if something like this already exists, please ho pretty please let me know !
Look for Phone Alarm. It has options on dimming the backlight depending on which setting you have it. You can confugure what time the settings take effect. So basically, the items you were requesting can all be done using Phone Alarm: http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
I think he wants it to do it depending on the light levels, using the universal's keyboard's light sensor, NOT on timing...

If this is the case, then this would even be better. Hope someone can figure it out.
Is there any way to force the subdisplay to activate? When my keyboard cover closes over the display, it is rather finicky in getting to switch over.
Additionally, I would rather not take the keyboard with me and it would be great to listen to music and see the subdisplay instead of the entire screen being lit up.
There must be a simple way to enable or toggle this. Is there a developer out there willing to make this mod happen? Part of the Development project perhaps?
Thanks
Keith Walker
when sub display is on the whole screen is lit so kinda pointless better to develop a screensaver of some type that wont drain battery but shows relevent info maybe a custamizable one???

I don't know if this helps or not; with mine, when I place the keyboard at the back of the unit with the keys facing outwards (as I do most times) it does start up the subdisplay as well (even with the screen open and programs running).
spzero is right.
You can try that with VGA out cable and enable sub display with your keyboard. You can see whole screen is lit and the only difference is the bottom portion of screen changes to a status bar (sub display).
Neat trick!
Still it would be cool if there was a way to force the subdisplay with the rest of the screen black. Even with black color in a lighted screen, it would save energy, like this site:
http://www.blackle.com/
http://www.blackle.com/about/
(low energy version of google due to black screen!)
kww
Making the screen black doen't mean that it consume less energy... mostly because the LEDs used to light the screen are always on (the screen on the Athena is not transflective like most PPC. It means it need a minimum of emitting light to be viewable)

so the best i can do is this.... make background black then need to edit the reg
HKLM\software\htc\subdisplay
open = 0
I have a custom background image on my windows mobile 6 and it comes in slightly transparent. Its like WM6 lightened it up or something automatically. Is there an option where I can turn this off to make the image show up in its original full color?
Thanks in advance.
Quickest way to do that, in my experience, is to open the image you want in the picture viewer and then select "set as background" (or something like that) from the menu. This gives you the option to set the transparency. If at 0% it will show the full image.
For some strange reason WM always sets the background to half transparent when you use the today screen setup to select a background, making it look very milky and mostly ugly. Don't really know why you can't change the transparency from there.
You could also make your own theme but that might be a little overkill for just a background.
Got it! Thanks!
Ok, Got a quick questions here figured i wouldnt post a new thread, i figured out how to set as background but theres no option to apply, if you hit OK in the top right it nevers sets it as the background, any ideas??
Thanks!

If you view the pic with picture viewer then right softkey for menu, there is a set as background option.
I seen that but when you hit that button it opens you can set the transparency, But then if you Hit OK in the top right corner it does absolutely nothing to change the background..... any ideas

Ive never had that problem. After setting the transperency it always sets it as the background. I would say its file type problem. Are you using a gif or jpeg?
jpeg i can post a screen shot if need be

Instead of hitting the ok in the top right corner, hit ok on the key that says ok underneath the right soft key.
Let me know if that works.
hey Whataya Know it worked haha, Thanks!!!!!!!! I really appreciate it, I shoulda thought of that lol

Wow......never thought someone would mix those up. GOOD CALL. The ok on the top of the screen is basically a X. Always use the menu keys at the bottom.
i figured that but instead of it having a X in the top right this time it was just an ok so i figured it was the apply button but haha i guess not
Have you ever been alone in the dark with only your cherished Diamond wishing you had a better light source than its dark theme can provide? It certainly happened to me, and here is the solution: Flashlight.
Why a new such program when a few freeware already exist? Well, this one is TOTALLY finger friendly.
While in the main screen, drag your finger upwards to increase the light or downwards to decrease it.
The program can also be used as an emergency beacon, flashing two colors. To set the colors, again move your finger (horizontally this time) on the red, green or blue markers. The settings are saved on exit.
Compact Framework 3.5 needed!
Update 24/08/08 v 1.1
Added SOS function. This uses Color1 from Options.
Update 29/08/08 v 1.2:
Added menu item to disable Auto backlight. This allows to get maximum luminosity. The program will remeber the setting. When exiting, it will restore your backlight to what it was before.
To use this facility with the best results, do the following:
Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Backlight
Uncheck Auto adjust backlight
Slide both cursors to maximum
Check Auto adjust backight
Now start flashlight, go to Options, click on Auto backlight (to uncheck it) and your device shoud have maximum light. Don't worry, it will go back to Auto when you leave the program (or whatever setting you had before you ran it).
Looks very nice and convenient especially for users who don't have flash on their devices; downloading now.
I needed this thanks!
does your tool set the backlight to the maximum or just fill the screen with a color?
Haha, very nice/funny app. Ive never used a cellphone as a flashlight. But hey, im gonna install this one. I like it

Just fills the screen. Quite honestly, I don't know how to change the backlight, but if you have any pointers I'll try.
Really useful for me
Would it be possible to use vertical dragging to change the flashing speed ?

Interesting idea. I can do that...
You need to find a way to disable the light sensor and adjust to the max brightness for this to work efficiently.
why i can not have white light without flashing? if i disable flashing i get a grey light
flashing OK, i choose red and white

Try to slide your finger upwards...
Can you make it flash SOS it could be usefull in an emergency...
I think it is 3 short 3 long 3 short flashes...
There is also another flashlight app. It called 'pLamp'. Version 1.5 is compatible with VGA. Google for it. It's freeware. Works great on my diamond.

I realize that. Changing the backlight is not API implemented though as it is hardware dependent. I've been googling it for a couple of hours already and no luck yet.
so use registry?
to disable the light sensor
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightDetectOn
set it to 0->Sensor is off (will change immediatly)
this should make it ways brighter
don't know which key adjusts the brightness level but you may set Battery-Brightness-level to max and enable Lightsensor. So if you now disable it, you have max brightness
works well for me, jsut implement it in your app and i'll be very happy
Update to v 1.1: added SOS function. Download in first post.

The problem with changing the registry is that it won't update the brightness until a soft reset, unless I'm mistaken.
yes yes yes turn backlight for max is more usefull then plenty of colours, btw 9 basic colours will be enough and still finger friendly... but still nice app

just try it yourself
after changing the key the sensor will be deactivated immediatly
no soft reset needed
and with the workaround I posted early you will get max brightness very easyly
but even without the workaround this will increase brightness massivly as the main usability of a flashlight is to enlightend darkness and the sensor dimms the display to minimum in darkness^^
HI guys.
Does anyone have any idea how to make control of the X1 illumination LEDs in normal state ?
Because to see the phone while it's in the dark or at night.
My last phone before Xperia X1 is SE W900i. The small LED at the side of it make me easily to identify my phone when it's in the dark especialy at night.
In summary, I need to keep the X1 illumination LED blink every time when the phone is ON.
This is just a small thing.
I've found something in registry editor at :HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SonyEricsson\Illumination\Patterns
Buy I dont know how to deal with it.
use XperiaTweak in options it has a possibility to manage leds
Xperiatweak will not give him the ability to have the LEDS always on.
What I suggest is you send yourself a text message or something and never open it.
I turned my whole ullumination off because I hated it at night. ^^
i find it usfull at night as i keep my phones volume low and just have to look at it to see if i have a missed anything or if its still charging
I'd love to see some registry entries which controls the leds. =)
it would be nice to make own patterns. why didn't they make the all the side en not at the top en end i like the leds and find them usefull.
I would absolutely love a function to stop power waste when your battery is low. Yes, i responded to the 'low battery' message already. No, i don't need flashing lights, buzzes or beeps to remind me and further waste the power. Request for Xperia Tweak to have a "disabled" setting in the LED lighting menus!

You can already do this via the built-in functions (no need for a tweak program at all)
Settings > System Tab > Illumination ... uncheck the "Enable illumination" box

I already done it, But the LED is disapear for no reason even when set at Sounds & Notifications to put it on for no limited time.
Also, it would be really cool if:
- The leds are creating ambi-light for your movies.
- The leds as a visualizer for my music..
i would looooveeee to have my LEDs read out my sms using morse code.....
Hmm.. But seriously.. I'd love if I could have the leds pulsate like "low battery" but in purple or green color when idle.
I'm also interested in this, just wish i knew where to start lol

well would there be a way of making the led's act as a service light? like on the 8925 and 8525 they both would have a led light that blinks when you had service.
I'm also looking for a way of changing led colors in the registry
