does anyone know of a good video calling app for the touch hd?
Apart from the supplied HTC dialer, I am not aware of any third party software that has video call functionality.
not sure exactly what you are looking for - but I use VZOCHAT - it is an MSN messenger (instant messaging) type client but it's the only one I can find that lets you make video calls over data connections.
The mobile code is still a little immature and has a few problems but it's improving

Hi,
As I know the current Skype for PDA does not support the video call. Do you know any plug-in for Skype or other sofware to be able to use the front camera for video call through WIFI?
Thanks
Skype does plan on eventually adding a video call feature for PPC however right now it's not really possible because of the resources it would take.. keep in mind when you video call with skype it takes tons of system resources to encrypt the video, sound, etc.
Is there any other software for video call, which has PC and PPC version also? I dont need any encryption for may calling.

Hi,
I have been using Windows Live Messenger/Skype off my Hermes for quite some time now and I liked it. Now, I will be going outstation for 2 weeks, and I wish to stay in touch with my friends and family. So is it possible for me to use video call off wifi connections? If yes, what programs need I use? I have tried windows live messenger and skype on my phone. They do not support video calls.
Thanks
I have the touch pro, and also want to use msn with videocalling....
Try Microsoft Portrait. Microsoft Portrait is a research prototype for mobile video communication. I've tried it nearly a year ago. It worked, but the quality was awful.
Would be a good thing

the developing has stopped...
What would you suggest to make video calls to msn contacts, google contacts or skype contacts? all together maybe with just one program
i thought something like frings but with video...
I have downloaded Skype for my Diamond, but it only allows you to do voice calls to your contacts, not video calls. Is there any software for WM6.1 that will allow video calls for free over wi-fi and/or HSPDA?
I searched the forum but only results seem to be for Web Camera Plus, which allows you to use your Diamond as a webcam for PC based Skype or MSN etc, but not used directly as a webcam on the phone itself.
Somebody help please, going away on a course and want to keep in touch with the family
Try this:
http://www.octro.com/
or
http://www.nimbuzz.com/
Both are free and you could use your existing Skype usename.
Let us know how it goes.
I've tried using both of these programs and cannot get either of them to work with Skype, any ideas?
Found one since, can't use Skype but registration is juts two minutes and free, it is called VZOchat, it works really well. Thanks for your help though.
Anyone any advise on the best skype, voip, sip apps ??
Thanks
If you need to make skype-to-skype calls then Fring and Nimbuzz. If you just need to make paid calls, Skype Lite should do.
Best sip app is sipdroid.
what's sip?
It's one of VoIP protocols: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_Initiation_Protocol
I have to say that I used fring the other day to do a skype to skype call over wifi, and the quality was bad - delayed audio, crackling, general low audio quality. My partner has the skype client for iPhone, and her call quality is, to be honest, amazing. It sounds better than calling on mobiles (when calling over wifi).
I hope this is not common and I would love for someone to tell me if Nimbuzz has good call quality over wifi.

I had the same experience with fring over wifi. No point in even trying 3G.
Why don't you just go ahead and test nimbuzz yourself?
nimbuzz has better sound quality than Fring. Do not know about the comparison to iphone skype app.
What is this Skype Lite?
Is this the one for Verizon Wireless?
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/android/
But this one is useless to me because it cannot be used with WiFi ...
And it is only for Verizon
I just dont get this, why Skype does not make generic full native client for Android?
Google does not allow it?
Skype does not know how to code?
Patents?

I really can't believe we can't get an official skype app for android.......
I think most mobile networks do not want people making calls over Skype because it goes over VoIP the voice network - So your network would lose out on charging you.
However, I just found out you can install Skype Lite beta on the HTC Desire and it makes calls/IM's. If you look on google for "Android Freeware - Skype Lite Beta" you should find it.
Does it work via Wi-Fi?

The chat/skype>skype feature works via the 3g/data/WiFi however landline calls goes via your phone's voice network (charging your network minutes).

But then we would all be on the 3 network
I use Smartgroshen app, simple, good quality of voice and sync with your phone contacts. Get 0.5 euro at start.
I am also using Smartgroshen app for calling. Skype is OK, and Smartgroschen more than OK.:good::good::good:
• I use Smartgroshen app. • With Smartgroschen app, you can make cheap phone calls to all mobiles and landline in the world from your smartphones and tablet without sim card.
My wife and I are getting ready to go overseas and we both have HD2's. Is there a good free VOIP app that we can use?
Thanks in advance.
`swamp
Skype for HD2 still works.
Download the cab, install it.
I haven't tried with Wi-Fi, but it works great with 3G.
I also used Skype, but only one bad issue occurs when run on HTC HD2 - output sound from rear speaker. Now I use fring, which supports Skype, plus some other communication protocols.
Skype is *not* really a voIP.
You can use fring - however it doesn't have DTMF support.
Might want to check into this:
http://www.ageet.com/us/products-agephone-mobile.htm
...or you can simply use the native dialer and the windows mobile voip - but getting it installed & working properly is a little tricky so the agephone one (although not free) might be your best bet.
talkonaut
talkonaut is a good one havent really used it yet tho
