ive mapped my wm6 mobile (tytn ii) so i can browse the shared folders located on my pc's hard drive.. took a while but worked it out.
i can see all my mp3's pics etc, but cannot get the phone to open them?
is there a way to do this?
i have shared the drive under a name ie "martin" and turned off advanced sharing in explorer.
map to it in the phone browser by \\martin\
then any subfolders shared on the pc, i can open and view contents via the phone. i just cannot run anything, or view pics, listen to music etc.
have i missed something or is it not possibe?
maybe the apps that should open the files do not know the network path stuff as it still is a tweak

As a recent Atom owner (using the new test rom) I was wondering if anyone might be able to help with a couple of questions.
Firstly, I was just wondering what people were using for their alarm's. At the moment I'm using the standard one which comes with the Atom and like the way you can choose multiple alarms for different days (seems a better idea than just the one setting using O2 media plus) but wouldn't mind being able to select a different alarm tones etc.
Similarly for text message alerts, is there any way/program to customize this away from the pre-set one.
Finally (sorry for so many questions) although I can seem to connect to my wireless router fine (for internet), I can't seem to access my desktop (to browse files, use stored media etc.). Is there a program I need to do this, or should I be able to browse to it from the file explorer ?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
go to start, settings, sounds and notifications, Notifications
Use the pull down menu to choose different sounds etc.
For the alarm you go to where you set alarm and click the speaker it will give you choice of tones.
You can upload to your phone wav files to use as tones, search the net for what u want and upload to the windows/ring directory
Sooz ... thanks again, just trying to decide what sound will wake me up now.
Any ideas on the wireless network access thing ?
you need to have activesync installed on your pc download the latest one from Microsoft.com
once installed it will prompt you to connect the phone etc and away you go
there is an explore in active sync or just use windows file manager to get there, but you need to copy and paste items to phone not drag them
Cheers
Thanks for your reply, however I was looking for someway to browse the host computer from the Atom (to access shared media etc.) or alternativly see and control the desktop's screen (much like the old remote control tools).
Also how are you using activesync over Wifi ... I thought microsoft disabled this due to some sort of security concerns ?
Use Resco Explorer
If you want to directly connect to a PC share from the Atom, use Resco Explorer. It allows you to "map" to network shares and browse them directly from the Atom.
Thanks for that ... looks like quite a nifty little program (which has now replaced my standard file browser).
Don't suppose there's been any luck on being able to sync via wifi. Not so sure I understand why Microsoft had this removed but left in the ability to sync over bluetooth. Always thought wifi was more secure ? Odd.
I recently setup Activesync to sync files but i really only wanted it to sync a single Word Document file in My Documents on my Vario.
When it syncs it syncs the whole of the My Documents folder, which is crap cos this contains all my camera photos and videos and I dont want that. is there a way to just do files you want.
I managed to delete the files on my PC and it removed them on my Vario!
Also any new files that appear in My Documents on my Vario get automatically synced!
TIA
Doug
That would be difficult. What I suggest would be to move your not-wanting-to-syn files to your storage card or some folder in your root (e.g. not in the My Documents). Yeah, that would cause problems with many of your applications as it will look for My Document first and you would have to go and find your customized folder.
Anyway, you can try this (I didn't try it before). Create a shortcut in your My Documents that point to another folder where you keep all your real files, so that if your app open My Document, it would be easy for you to find that folder. But, still any photo taken by your camera will be still in My Document.
Anyway, there isn't much harm syncing all files. I mean, as long as the files are not changed, the isn't much time consumed in synching them. Better just leave them as they are

I threw a few music files in the MY PDA folder under My Documents on my PC and expected them to sync accross to my Vario II. After connecting the phone it sent a couple across then I got a warning on the phone that 'Storage Memory is Critically Low'. Obviously the files had been synced onto the phone. Thought you would be able to specify to sync onto the phone storage card but there is no option for this anywhere.
Anyone know a way to do this?
if you set up the sync option for media player in active sync and then set up the playslists you want to sync in media player on your pc it will automatically set up the folders on your card and transfer the files. it does warn not to drag and drop onto the card of you want the sync process to work.
Cheers cdyat, but this was more of a test. For instance, what if I want to sync 30Mb of Office files with my phone. It would appear that I can't just put these in the My PDA Sync folder to be copied next time I connect, but I have to cut and paste from the relevant folders.
This to me seems ridiculous but I can't see an option to change the location to sync with the storage card anywhere.
You can only sync files, be default, into main memory. There are two 3rd party apps available (Sorry can't remember the names) that will allow you to Sync anything to anywhere. One is commercial and the other is a Japenglish conversion. Try searching these forums for links.
I am all for searching, but if anyone comes up with a name for those two apps, please post =)
As another user recently posted in this forum, Pocket Controller has a Sync Manager that can be used to synchronize files and folders to any location, including storage cards.
Pocket Controller sounds very nice but $35 is quite a lot just to enable me to sync a folder to my storage card.
I had assumed there must be a registry setting somewhere on the PC that would change the default path?
Try these

YMMV, but have a nice day...
Cheers Daniel, Mobsync looks like it might do the trick.
Acid Sync - Sync Computer Folder to SD Card\Folder
A guy I know is working on a program to do this with a much easier configuration since it just syncs Desktop folder to Storage Card folder. Pretty simple really, copy mp3 or whatever to desktop folder and it will sync to PPC folder and viceversa. Still in beta though

Hi guys,
I've been searching for a few days and reading numerous threads and haven't found answers to some questions/concerns I have.
I should state up front that I am far from an expert on installing programs on phones, etc and this is the first phone I've messed with like that. From reading this forum, I've managed to install Pandora and Swype on the phone with no problems.
Anyway, here are some concerns I have with the phone that I'm trying to change / fix / figure out.
1. Text message interface - When a new text message comes in, I press the message button and it takes me to the screen showing the last individual message I viewed. I've tried to find ways to change this, to no avail. Is this SERIOUSLY the intended interface? Maybe I'm 'spoiled' coming from a G1, but I would like to press the message button and have it take me to the screen showing all the conversations I have with people.
2. Email - Same thing. If it matters, I've linked Outlook to Gmail as an exchange server (or something like that) so I can have it refresh instantaneously, rather than once a minute or once every 5 minutes (whatever the lowest setting is doing it the other way).
3. Folder browsing while connected to PC - When I plug the phone into my PC and open the folder, my options are:
Application Data
DCIM
My Documents
Program Files
DCIM looks like the storage card, but how do I explore the files on the phone? The "My Documents" folder (when plugged into the PC) only contains some folder called "My POI", which is empty; however, the My Documents folder when using "File Explorer" on the phone contains a bunch of stuff. I'm confused.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

For #1 and #2, you'll need to create shortcuts/quicklinks to "messaging" and "e-mail", you'll find them in the list of available shortcuts in the start menu.
For #3, it sounds like you're connecting to your PC in "disk drive" mode, which means you'll only see the contents of the SD card (it treats it like a regular external USB hard drive). To be able to browse the phone's memory from your PC, you'll need to connect via ActiveSync...which requires that utility installed on your PC. You need "ActiveSync" for winXP, and for Vista/7, it's called "Windows Mobile Device Center/WMDC". Once you connect your phone to the PC that way, you can browse both the phone memory as well as the SD card, it just won't be as fast/responsive as "disk drive" mode browsing, due to the nature of the connection.
EDIT: Make sure you give the following thread a read, if you haven't already:

type: music sync app
purpose: to automatically sync a folder on your PC with a folder on your phone when you enter the wireless network when this PC is on.
OK, example, you have a folder on your PC that is named "music". when your phone connects to your wireless network this App looks at this folder (if available,ex. turned off computer)
If there is a new song in this folder, the app automatically downloads it to the folder on the phone (sd card).
I have tried audio galaxy, its so so, i wish i could just look at a whole list of all my song like a normal player does. yes there are playlist, but come on.
Worth creating?
Also i thought this might come in handy with car's, say you drive in your driveway and your car connects to your wireless, noticing that you have 15 new songs waiting to be synced to the hard drive in the car. without user input needed the files are copied over, available when ever needed.

It would be nice to have an option to autosync via ssh. I imagine these apps can be improved but it's out there.
