The promo video shows off the HTC Hero and the Rosie interface. Looks awesome.
Cool!
Nice promo video, hope the Hero is a promising phone with better specs. Looking forward to it, thank you for finding the video.
is that really HERO? is HERO also aka G3?

I think the Hero is the G3. This may be the G1 redone. This one doesn't have the keyboard so it can't be the second G1; that means the title is wrong too
There is no G3. There is not G2. G1 is just tmobile nonsense and means nothing. Dream is dream, magic is magic, and hero is hero.

I think it might actually. I thought the 'G' referred to the Google branding, or a device which qualifies for the Google logo on it. Therefore the 'G1' was the first phone to have the Google logo on it. 'G2' was the Magic, which also has the Google logo on it. I think that is the logic behind it.

You are wrong. "G1" is just a carrier-assigned (tmobile) trick to make dumb people think that the carrier is somehow the manufacturer.
There is no doubt that the device is actually "htc dream" and NOTHING MORE: http://www.htc.com/www/product/dream/overview.html
very nice!!!!!

Yea that makes sense. Maybe makes their corporate image look better too (to dumb people ofc ).
I'm assuming that thing comes out in the fall to coincide with Leno's new show. That can be the only explanation for a chin that big.

Two words: It's Hero.

Its ugly.
Keyboard is nice, but what a waste of space on the "chin"
Not that the G1 is the most aesthetically pleasing phone out there.
Interesting indeed.
Nice... but you know ATT will cripple the crap out it.

Not surprising.
Unfortunately, there's a note here that "Initial Lab Entry dates were based on Google Mobile Services (GMS) UI, AT&T standard UI has been requested, which puts schedule in question." In other words, AT&T wants its fingerprints all over the interface, which risks pushing out the launch -- and that's a double whammy of suck

"unique social networking interface" has my attention.
And now for more than two words:
The ring around the trackball makes me think they'll do the Circular Zoom thing from the Touch Diamond, which would be nice.
EDIT: Wait, that looks too big to be a trackball. Oh god.
i was kinda mad that its going to att but now that i saw the reso;ution 240x320 im happy.
att wants their fingerprints all over it lol
I wonder who'll get this in Europe though, where ATT don't exist

not only that but a 2.8" screen. I don't know what HTC was thinking, but they missed the mark for most android lovers.
What i'd love is if this had a similar (or better resolution) to the g1, larger touch screen (3.5" ?) touch pro 2 keyboard, at least 8gb internal flash, and HERO! lol ok that will be a while
I didn't even think Android supported that small of a screen. That shows me.
Actually, considering the screen on this is only 2.8" instead of 3.2, it's not bad, but I thought that the Hero would at least be equal hardware with the Dream and Magic

HTC likes to take random steps backwards. Everyone remembers the Wing, right?
The description for this forum is wrong!
It's either HTC Dream OR T-Mobile G1 and NOT some hybrid HTC G1
Even the wiki says that the names for the device are HTC A71XX / HTC Dream / Android Dev Phone / T-Mobile G1 -- again, no HTC G1.
Just thought I'll point that out...
cool never noticed that
Mine's called "Gary".
I thought "Google G1" was OK too, but the trademark ownership on HTC site says:
Google, Android, Android Market, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Search and YouTube are trademarks of Google Inc. T-Mobile and the magenta color are federally registered trademarks of Deutsche Telekom AG. G1 and T-Mobile G1 are trademarks of T-Mobile USA, Inc.

Google G1 does not make much sense as G standts for Google as far as I know, so it would mean Google Google 1
I feel like such an idiot now going around posting everywhere with "HTC G1" in my signature.
Changed.
Are you serious? Well, sorry for that, I've just pointed that out for fun.
Still wondering if forum admins will react...
I also noticed that when you go into settings > about phone it says 'T-Mobile G1" too.
I noticed this a while back, just couldn't be bothered to make a thread about it. I agree with Karolis that HTC G1 makes absolutely no sense at all.

I hope you're talking about your phone =P
I've noticed it since the Dream forum was created, but at that point no one was really sure about the name and later it didn't bug be.
It doesn't bug me now either, I was just in the mood for a new thread
To be fair the phone is actually referred to as the HTC G1.
Infact, when in a T-Mobile store complaining about their lack of MiniUSB to 3.5mm headphone adapters (they don't sell any AT ALL despite the G1/G2 Touch being their flagship phones) I was told to search for a HTC Adapter because the official name is the "HTC G1" (to be honest, you'd have to be stupid to not know the phone is made by htc so I don't even know why he mentioned that)
But referred to != it is
I mean HTC is the company that makes them and G1 is a registered trademark of T-Mobile, just like someone has already mentioned.
such a pointless thread.

Is it just me, or is the EVO missing the 'with Google" mini-logo?
Out of all the other American-released android phones, I haven't seen another (recently) without the 'with Google' logo.
Not that I would care - all of my battery cover logos are covered up with carbon fiber anyhow. But has anyone else notice this?
TheHero had that logo

Hmm, interesting point.
It's on all of the droids that I've seen, even the first droid which has full motoblur says with Google.
The new HTC phones says: With HTC Sense. Kind of seems like the EVO is the in-between child.
I think the "with Google" branding means that it's approved to use the market. Kind of like a authorized Android device. Don't know why its missing on the EVO but I guess that its just a optional thing to add if you're "authorized".

The Evo IS actually a "with Google" phone. In fact, the first evo prototypes had the logo, but it seems that Sprint decided to replace it with their own 4G logo.
Also, to further confirm this, look at Google Android Phone gallery:
http://www.google.com/phone/detail/htc-evo-4g
Evo is clearly listed as a "with Google" phone.

Some Heroes have it and some don't. My launch-day Hero didn't, but a refurb warranty replacement I got did.
I just received a replacement phone from a warranty issue, and upon inspecting the phone, I see "with htc sense" and I lol'd. I was just wondering if anyone else saw this on their phone

Yeah, mine says that as well. It doesn't really have much point, except to advertise that the phone has Sense and to distinguish it from the other versions of the Desire Z (not sure about the Vision, but the G2 doesn't have Sense on it).
Mine also says "with Google" on the battery cover, just in case I wasn't sure who made Android I guess....

Yeah G2's say "with google" and DZ's say "with HTC sense"... really only helpful to distinguish between the two but who really cares about sense on the back of their phone?

"Vision" is just the codename for the phone. All models of the Desire Z and G2 are "Vision" (e.g. the word is in the filenames for RUUs for both phones).
May it doesn't matter, just thought that it was an interesting mistake

Wait, so you're telling me you started off with (what I assume to be) a T-Mobile G2 and they gave you a HTC Sense-less "Desire Z" in return?
Does the front of your device say "HTC" or "T-Mobile" on it? Does the battery door have a "G2" engraved or is it blank? Maybe you could take a couple pictures? I'm really curious about this.

I don't think it does, as he/she mentioned it being "an interesting mistake", implying it's a Sense-less device. Guess we'll have to wait for a reply.
I'm extremely curious about this peculiarity, as I am trying to remove all non-HTC branding from the device in an attempt to transform my "T-Mobile G2"-branded Vision into a more HTC-esque Desire Z. Except without Sense... simply because I don't like it.
I'd like to get a screen that says "HTC" and not "T-Mobile". I already ordered the appropriate battery cover.

Charged the G1 and it had so many updates I had to say maybe later.....
It's so amazing by looking at the UI that Android has come so far in six or so years.

One thing that i like with lg g series, is at least they are tryng to improve the design (G2 to G3). You can spot the difference. Unlike with other manufacturer whos trying to stick with their traditional design.

I used the G1 way back in 2008. It was one of, if not the first
Android phone. I had a Nokia N95 at the time and was way into Symbian but, the screen broke and was way too expensive to fix so
went to Andy and the rest is history.
