One question for you - Touch Cruise ROM Development

One question for you, sometime when i download the rom only one file come with extention of nbh (that I can not open) does not include exe file to run - how to get other files including the exe file to run the rom like ruu.exe
Imran

You can either take them from another rom. All the RUU does it point to the .nbh to install it.
the nbh is the important bit, its all the data.
Or you can do what i do, intall it via MicroSD (Its much quicker)
Just rename the .nbh to POLAIMG.nbh then hold the camera button while you soft reset, it will take you straight to the installation screen for the ROM.

How to copy nbf files on your SD card!

If you are one of those Qtek users who never settle for what they have and you want to experiment with cooking some new ROMs made to your individual needs, here's how you can do it.
- First, you need to always download the ROM in an EXE format. You then right click on the downloaded file and you choose to extract files in a specified folder
- Second, you will need to install XDAtools on you PC. After you've done so, run the application.
- A window with a 'source' field' and a 'destination' field will appear. In the 'source' field hit the browser button and pick up the nbf file you had previously extracted from the EXE ROM file. The file is named NK.NBF.
- Click on 'copy' and wait till is finished. You won't be able to verify that the file has been written on your card as the card is not readable.
- Slide the card in the Qtek and press the power button whilst simultaneously you do a soft reset.
- Let the files copy and do NOTHING untill the process is completed.
- Do a battery reset and wait for 60secs before you switch it on again.
Note1: Make sure you don't run out of power. Your battery must be fully charged.
Note2: If you're cooking your ROM in Lumpi Stefan's kichen have in mind that the ROM version 4.01.00 is a T-Mobile edition and it'll cause you various problems with ActiveSync. For a start you won't be able to upgrade to another ROM through your PC. You'll have to do it through an SD. Also the ROM edition 4.00.21 is in German.
Good Luck!

Where can I get RUUpdater

I'm so sorry about this. I really have spent over an hour searching and Googling and reading the Wiki but I just can't seem to find this simple thing.
My O2 XDA Orbit is dead so I thought I'd try one last attempt to rescue it by re-flashing the factory ROM (WM5). I found this thread via the wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306904 and am following the instructions for bricked devices. I downloaded the O2 Orbit WWE Wm5 factory rom from rapidshare, I have my device in the bootloader and it shows "USB" in the bottom left and the PC reacted and recognised the device when I plugged it in (but doesn't see it in Activesync).
The step I'm stuck on is that Meschle's instructions say "flash factory rom. (run rom executable or RUU updater from pc)". The rom is an nbh file so I suppose I need the RUU updater for PC. Where do I get this from? I just can't find it.

dude if you downloaded the file the ROM you are talking about then you got ur self sorted - the package u have has the RUU or ROM Update Utility
when u go to bootloader, plug ur ppc to the pc and when u see the usb sign in the ppc screen just start the package u got from rapidshare it will do everything auto!!
let us know how you get on?
best luck with your 'surgery' it will be fine just dont worry
Maybe he downloaded simply a ROM file and not the complete package as usual. Download one of Meschle's or Tom's ROMs for example and delete the .nbh file inside the folder and replace it with yours.

assistance needed - phone no longer 'flashable'

Greeting from the boonies of Maine.
Phone: HTC Touch Vogue (US Cellular) w. coke 2.31 and a Rom I cooked in the PPCKitchen
The first one I created did weird things I did not like, so went back to Factory ROM from HTC website (I have a copy on my computers)
I then tried to pick and choose what I wanted in the PPCKitchen, but some thing happened there too. 1- no longer connects to the internet via #777
I wanted to go factory again so as to restart with using cabs instead so I can check 1 by one the items causing weird stuff to happen.
Connected to my desktop and got a can not communicate message -- it says Remote Network Error (Error 608) - anybody have a clue what I can do now - my laptop said the same thing.
If I can not connect through the desktop or laptop then I can not restore what needs to be restored.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Firstly, have you tried to hard-reset the phone? (red+green+stylus in reset hole) Ive always noticed with flashing a ROM a hard reset immediately helps with weird issues that may occur
If that doesnt help, then you can always connect your (less than 2GB) SD card, the original works great for this into your PC and copy over the ROM you want to use onto it XXXfilenameXXX.nbh file, once there or before you copy it either way, rename it to VOGUIMG.nbh and then attempt to flash/reflash via bootloader mode (power+camera+stylus in hole)
Sometimes you can start bootloader then plug it in via USB, but its just easier to have the ROM on a SD card for future emergency flashes if needed
Hope that helps

Hard reset didn't work as it still uses the rom you just flashed.
I have the sd card to use but the file on the htc site for the shipped uscc rom is an exe file which includes the RUU so that I do not thing would auto run in the same way.
Any other ideas.
Download a custom ROM from around here for your carrier once you open the file (usually a .rar file) you will find the .nbh file there - rename that file to VOGUIMG.nbh and copy it to your SD card and use bootloader method to flash (BTW the ROM coming down from whatever site your original ROM is your getting is most likely just a compressed executable so you can probably use WinRAR or WinZip to extract to a folder and find the nbh file there)
Once it is up and running, connect via USB and attempt to synch and go from there

[Solved - sort of]
Thanks for the clues Detroit_Doug (referring to the first post).
I was able to place the phone in bootloader (bottom would read [serial]) then plugged in the phone (changed to [USB]) and ran the exe file. That worked. So now I am back to stock.
QPST does not recognize my phone so how can I get the rom backed up as just the vogueimg.nbh file.
I use Vista and it has its own extract the nbh file -- right click on an exe does not include extract. I really do not want to have to have another program to do what vista has built in as it takes over all kinds of compressed files when you install it.
But my original problem is solved. Going to try to find cabs for just the items I want so I can use remove programs when things go wonky again.
Thanks again

Simple answer: you cant
that is if Im reading your request correctly, you want to back your phone up into a .nbh file? if that is correct see simple answer.
ROMs are created to flash to a device, not like Ghost or Ateris that makes an image of the phone you can just restore the image in its entirety.
Your closest you can hope for is to install PIM or SPB backup solutions that will allow you to backup contacts, mail, texts, etc but unfortunately not apps or the OS.

Vista (like XP and Windows 7) has its version of compression software and will allow the compression and extraction of SOME compressed files although Windows will see an .EXE as just that an .EXE and may or may not recognize it as a compressed executable and therefor wont open it.
Your best bet is to use a small app such as WinRAR or even 7-Zip, with those during the install you can select to allow Windows UI integration as well as what file extension you want it to be associated with and which ones you dont (zip, rar, iso, etc)
Hope that helps and glad your back up and running

How to Remove HSPL (Hard SPL)

Having broken my HD2 I needed to remove HSPL from my phone in order to claim on the insurance policy. After 3 hours I finally worked it out and thought I would help others with clear, step by step instructions.
1. Format a microSD card with a FAT-32 file system
2. Download your ORIGINAL rom file (most available on the sticky thread named "[REF] Leo Official ROMS")
3. This is the bit I missed - change the file extension of the downloaded rom file to .zip (You need to show file name extensions in windows explorer. Open My Computer>tools>Folder Options>uncheck "hide extensions for known file types") - sorry if this is obvious but this is for noobs!
4. Unzip the file RUU_signed.nbh and rename it LEOIMG.nbh
5. Copy LEOIMG.nbh to your microSD card and insert it in the phone.
6. Hold the volume down key and power on your phone. As soon as the coloured screen changes to grey, RELEASE volume down.
7. Press power button to reflash your phone.
That's it!
Apologies if this is repeating previous threads but it took me FOREVER to figure it out and I wanted to help others with the same problems!

All the steps for this are on my flashing for noobs thread which is stickied. If you had checked there first you could have saved 2 hours 55 minutes
Glad you sorted it out in the end though lol.

[help]Leo_CustomRUU

i downloaded this file Leo_CustomRUU.zip for use rom cook by sync with computer
but i can't extract this file
it's denie.
i turn off all of protection (firewall, antivirus)
anyone see it ? help me plz.
or have other solution to update rom by sync
thanks
sorry my english isn't good
did you turn off antivirus before or after you downloaded the file? Some AV software disable customruu, so even if you turn off AV it still wont run.
Try turning off AV, and download customruu again.
Somewhere on the forum I read that the best thing you can do is download an official htc ROM upgrade (from htc*com with your s/n), download the file to your computer. Then open the RUU file with WinRAR and you'll see like 10-15 files in there. What you need to do is extract those files to a new folder and replace the ruu_signed.nbh (official htc ROM) with the desired Custom ROM and of course rename your ROM to ruu_signed.nbh. Now start RUU.exe and follow the steps. I read that most custom ruu's didn't completely clean the internal storage so maybe this will help. Goodluck!
