Very happy with my new HD2. However i have a problem with my push gmail, or maybe it is an exchange problem in general, don't know. When i set up an exchange account with google server, i should be able to recieve push email, sync my calender and contacts and so on. On my previous phone (samsung omnia2) it worked like a charm. Somebody sends my an email on my gmail adres, and within 30 secs i received the mail. Same with outlook calender, it synced immediately.
With my HD2 (rom version 1.43.404.1 NLD) my mails don't arrive instantly! sometimes it takes over two houres before i receive something. Same with calender and contacts. I tried a hard reset of my device. First thing afterwards was settingup google exchange, and it worked again. Then i added a second mail account, set this account to auto receive every two houres and the problem with the exchange account comes back! the strange thing is when i watch my active sync status on my phone, it says connected, and when i send a mail from my pc, a couple of seconds later i see activesync syncing, like its receiving the mail, but it doesn't show in my mailbox, no poppup, nothing... only few houres later, suddenly i get the mail...
my exchange account is set to 'receive on arrival of items' should be push, also, comm manager says push activated....
sounds familiar to anybody?
I think this was a problem on gmails end yesterday, bearing in mind that gmail push is in beta. I had the same on my i8910, where previously gmail push was working perfectly.

and do you have a second, normal email account? It's from the moment i created the second account i ran into trouble...
tried reverse order? email first then exchange?
maybe after a hard-reset
I haven't got a HD2 but on my TP if I go out of coverage area for a time and then come back in, my activesync doesn't always reconnect. Saying that I have noticed it a lot less since banging a 6.5 rom on there. I have to add I am not using google sync, I am using fast hosts. I am going to migrate to google sync after this month to save some pennies so I hope it works good by then.
I ONLY have google exchange sync, it synched my calendar and contacts in seconds, and the e-mail FOLDERs, but not a single message. i left it 8 hours... (i've checked the messages to only do 1 week, 3 days, whatever)
i've tried soft reseting, two hard resets, ONLY e-mail, no e-mail, toggling e-mail. it will not retrieve any messages. in the end im using IMAP but its very frustrating/!
anyone got any other suggestions?

oh and to add insult to injury my iphone 3GS is sitting here merrily binging away everytime i get en e-mail!
If you are doing a send/receive for a folder this will not work you have to select the folders to sync by putting a tickbox in each one and then let it do its stuff.
Before I did this on mine all I saw was folders and no content (apart from the inbox)
Hope this helps.
but i just want my inbox to sync? which it does not.. and there is no checkbox next to that one, its in bold, which i assume means that one has to sync by default?
for me it does work right now. My solution was to delete my windows PC active sync connection. before, i synced with windows to get my contacts and calender, and then afterwards i set up my exchange connection. But from the moment i deleted the Windows PC connection, and working only with exchange everything works pefectly! Even created a second pop email account, refreshing every two houres, my push connection still works fine....
Ok, i figured out my issue, and im surprise dit isnt documented anywher eon google,i found it on one of their forums and a member there discovered it, not a google Mod.
If you have subfolder under your inbox, it wont work.
i.e. if you have any "/" in your google mail labels (which is how GMAIL sets itself up if you use outlookwith IMAP on it),then it wont sync
i had sub folder sin outlook, so in gmail they becme labels such as:
Inbox/Ebay
Inbox/personal
and the "/" trips up the exchange sync. which seems very strange considering that the phone correctly recognises them as labels.

So it means that there is no way it will sync the emails under these labels?
I tried re-entering my details yesterday, after having it on hourly retrieval for a few days. Now sync appears to be working fine, from others reporting similar it looks like Google was doing some work on it for a few days that was breaking new sync setups.
now it works fine
Ok... so I've recently migrated to Android after several years of WinMo Standard - Windows CE - 5.0 - 6.0 - 6.1 - 6.5.
So far I like Android and I love this phone... never had anything has fast or with such a great screen.
With that being said I'm having several issues that I wanted to run by the people here and see what ya'll thought.
Quick setup background - I have two email accounts I like to use - Gmail and Yahoo. I have all of my conacts in gmail organized the way I like it. Also, I recently gave up on using MS Outlook to manage my contacts and calendar and now use Gmail and Google Calendar to manage those two exclusively.
So here goes my impression/questions/issues - hoping someone can shed some light on it.
In the past with WinMo I could set up POutlook to sync with gmail/g-calendar/google contacts by configuring m.google.com as my activesync/exchange server. Everything seemed to work great. Now however I cannot decide if I should set up the accounts on the INC to sync via exchange or google.
So first question - when using HTC Mail and setting up my gmail account as an exchange server account is it "true" push?
If it is why would anyone want to use the gmail app?
Next - when I set my calendar to sync via exchange it randomly takes my entries and duplicates them on places the duplicate on the day before the original one. Any idea why? When I remove the active sync calendar and have it sync with my google account everything is correct... this is strange to me since its pulling the same data from the same place, my google calendar.
I'm sure I'll add more confusing and rambling thoughts after I continue to mess with this thing.
Thanks!
from my understanding the gmail is instant push and the htc mail app refreshes every 5 minutes (minimum). if this makes a difference to you then it should make your decision easier. hope this helps

i had issues with gmail not pushing properly when set up as an exchange account via HTC mail. other than the push issue, i consider the HTC app superior in every way.
I just set the HTC mail to manual, turn off the notifications to HTC mail. I set gmail it notification on, then every time gmail pushes in the mail I check it with the HTC mail. After I check it the notification goes away.
This way you can still use HTC mail without it waisting battery power every 5 minutes pull checking.

Great idea! I'll have to remember this when my EVO arrives next week.

might do this. thanks for the idea
If you set up your gmail account as an exchange account using m.google.com you can get push by changing your check frequency to "as arrive".
The issue I'm having is that the HTC Mail application wont open any attachments from my gmail account set up through exchange. I just get a message "The file cannot be opened because it is corrupted."
If I open with the gmail application it works fine
As a regular Gmail user, I find the Android Gmail app is superior to the HTC mail app. It gives me the same features I have when using a computer... like marking a star on a conversation, viewing different labels, and since I have multiple email addresses that my Gmail account polls, the Gmail app lets me see which of my email addresses was the recipient. It's right there in the label on the email list, without having to open each mail and look at the address information.
If you don't use Gmail, or have multiple email addresses that AREN'T automatically polled by your Gmail account, I'd agree that HTC Mail is nice. But for me it takes away too many of the nice Gmail features that I use. My $.02

This doesn't push. It pulls. If you look closely you will see a refresh icon flash in your notification bar every 5 seconds. Extreme battery usage.
As far as opening up your attachments, set it for Imap. Its the only way I got it to work for attachments.

Expect copy and paste from it, which I use a lot.
i like gmail app, because there is a delete button haha
htc one need to hit menu and hit delete.
Gmail...
I found using the Gmail app and the HTC Mail separately, I was killing my battery faster.
What I ended up doing, was having GMail PULL my pop mail, and then I'd just pull it all through the gmail app. Helped my battery life a great deal.
Pro's - Everything in one place, Easy batch delete
Con's - I have to TELL it to load the entire message (Show Picture). In HTC I didn't have to do that.
Other than that, I'm happy to have everything centralized.
It's not syncing on my Evo or iPad...Anyone having this issue?
Yes I was having the same problem recently. It "seems" like its syncing on the phone, but when I checked yahoo mail from their website on my PC it clearly was not.
(edit & update)
I used IMAP with yahoo mail... and this is what I found to be my problem:
It turned out that mine was in the settings, I had recently updated my password and only updated it on the "incoming server settings" on my phone, but on the outgoing server settings I did not update the password. So I would receive new mail but it would not sync properly when I delete the messages and marked them as read.
I am also having problems with my yahoo email not syncing. The problem is it will sync emails fine through 5/7/11, but not after that date. I tried deleting the email account in the mail app, and set it up again. It downloaded all emails through 5/7/11, but none of my newer ones. I have a yahoo plus (pop) mail account, but have always used the standard IMAP settings that auto-populate when setting up the account. Did Yahoo make any service changes recently? I am using the app on an Evo.
Any ideas why the email app won't sync? Im signed in but it just says "action required to sync email" and then links me to the google play store to download outlook?

While perhaps a different issue--the link-y to Play Store / download Outlook thing is strange--the email sync / notification issues were discussed a bit here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/gmail-push-notification-issues-t3595024 .
(FWIW, I've been using Outlook recently as the best email client that works with regular Gmail (not Google Apps) with the option to turn off conversation view. TypeApp / Blue Mail is another, but MS finally has Outlook doing a respectable job, after many months of false starts with the app.)

I just got my S8+ today and experienced the same issue. I added my Outlook.com as Exchange Active Sync account to get calendar and contacts synced on the phone too.
This results in the "action required to sync email" message in your inbox, which encourages you to download the Outlook app. If you read the email closely, towards the end is a link to click if you don't want to use the Outlook app. Click on that link and it will take you to a page where the Outlook team acknowledges that you don't want to use the app, and your email/calendar/contacts will sync with the Samsung apps quite happily.
It is insane to go thru these hoops to get full syncing...if you go thru the Outlook app, the sync is only one way too. I wouldn't mind if the Outlook app for Android was as graceful as the iOS version...

As you say - it's insane how difficult this stuff is. I thought it was bad enough when I set EAS syncing on an HTC 10 but this is even more convoluted. Why, if you set up an EAS account and select Contact and Calendar syncing, does it not just happen and allow syncing with any Contact or Calendar app! To hide the steps to enable it to an Email that isn't easily discoverable and has nothing to do with EAS is "bonkers" .
THANK YOU!!!!
I saw the link on the bottom you referred to, but my technology-illiterate self ignored it because I didn't think it would apply to what I was trying to do. But, lo and behold, I clicked on it, restarted my phone, and poof - there was all the email that previously wouldn't sync.
Thank you SO MUCH and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you!!
curious to see if anyone else is NOT getting notifications for e-mails from there verizon e-mail accounts? I have my account setup through the g-mail app (along with my main gmail account and another one). Both of my gmail accounts get notifications, but I need to switch to the Verizon one just to see the e-mails show up.
I have sync setup to every 15 minutes.
this was not an issue on my prior device (although, they were delayed a bit).
thanks!
