Anyone find it incredibly loud through headphones both system sounds and the touch flo music player? I have to have it all the way down to 1 bar in the system volume control.
Funnily enough coreplayer will play at reasonable volumes.
EDIT: maklik found a great solution. Volume reduced for headphones but still plays loud if not plugged in
maklik said:
u may edit the registry file:
Local_machine\software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\SavedHandSetVolume
Change DWORD to 0
plug in the headphone and adjust the system volume to 2-3%
u may find that if you once plug headphone into your mobile the volume will adjust to previous volume you saved, if you plug it out, the volume will restore to normal
question2,
the music too loud, you can edit the registry to fix it too
Local_machine\software\HTC\AudioManger_eng\Config\music_player_volumn
Change the DWORD to 10 or lower and soft-reset the mobile
the music will become lighter in the TouchFLO3D music player
sorry for poor eng, i come from HK ~ cheers

Usually phones are to quiet. that is an odd problem.
I'm having the same problem when listening streming radio station with my active Bose headphones. I have Media Player down to 5% volume but it is still quite loud. CorePlayer is ok, but that doesn't play the streaming format my station is using.
I'm finding it ok.
But you can use HD Tweak or Config Tool to lower the volume in the reg settings, that way it should be fine.

Have the same loud sound through the headphones even at lowest level. I prefer it after having a quietish Polaris. I think I remember seeing all the settings at 100 in the registry files so may be it is undoable?
Wow, are you kidding? I find it absolutely not loud at all!!... But I have a german (europe) version, so perhaps its the limitation... Does anyone know how to get this limitation away?? Please, I really searched a lot, but didn't find anything with my keywords and my fantasy is out now... So, I think there must be a cab or something like this, if anyone knows it, please post it or give me the link^^ greez, cad
@Cadenza: You should be able to remove the limitation using "HD Tweak"
Same problem here though: Sounds too loud for me ...
Thank you very much for your answer!!! Its true, I didn't try until now HD-tweak, only Advanced config and this doesn't have this option. So thanks a lot, I'll try this^^ haha, I want it loooud ok, now btt, I'm sorry that I post so offtopic, I really don't want to disturb you here but thanks a lot!!! Greez, cad^^
I gotta agree its very loud even at the lowest setting. I've just installed HD Tweak and see no way to lower my sound as the EU limitation is already active.
It's a funny problem to have, it is usually the opposite with anything you buy in the EU, maybe i can sue htc if i go deaf . If it makes any difference I use in ear earphones (otherwise you can't hear anything on London underground) could that be the cause?
Figure there mut be a registry setting somewhere to control this.
I also think it's way too loud, even though I've got a danish version, which should be limited... I dunno.
In wmp it's no problem though, cause it has it's own volume control.
HD tweak only allows to up the volume, not to lower it. Anybody got an idea?
LOL
Just tried mine and about blew my ears off! LOL
funny
Lol that were my thoughts exactly when I used my earphones for the first time! I only tested it on my own sennheisers though, not on the stock phones. Can anyone confirm that I can change this using that Tweak tool?
It's even worse through my UE Super.Fi 5 Pro as it approximately double the loudness compared to standard headphones. I hardly ever go above level 1 or 2.
I can't imagine what it would be like at level 15... Probably blow up my headphones.
Level 1 is not so bad during the day with lots of external noise but at night it's too loud!
no fix for this?
I thought s2p would help me get around this but I agree its still too loud... I like to sleep to music and this verges on painful on all but the very lowest setting... I've switched to a headset I use on my computer for voip calls that has a volumn control but I would much prefer a solution that allows me to use my Bose earbuds
using wmp solves the problem, as it has it's own volume control. But I want to use the htc player in tfl3d.

Sounds like you have a faulty Touch HD. I would backup your stuff and try a hard reset to see if this issue still persists.
No way I can turn to max volume. I would go deaf...
Hi Guys, I also have UE super.fi 5 pro's and find the HD stupidly loud! The only way I can listen to music before I go to sleep is to have the volume on the lowest setting and turn all the equaliser settings down to minimum! Any Help yet?!
Hi, Trying again in this forum as no answers in Themes and software one.
Audio booster works well with music player - really makes a difference.
But sometimes I like to listen to the built in FM radio - It's great for commuting. The problem is the sound is quite low and the Audio booster makes no difference to it. I tried SRS WOW HD but that produced no sound untill i tweaked the registry - then I got sound but no ability to enable SRS.
I know this is fairly low on peoples priority list but please, if anyone has any ideas, I'd be really gratefull
have u installed HD tweak, it has options to increase sound level and improve radio reception.
Thanks Zesper,
Yeah - tried that but no joy playing thru ear phones - it's still pretty quiet

To be honest, it doesn't make much sense as the System volume controls both music and radio and if I turn the radio up fully on mine, it'll probably burst my eardrums it's that loud.
Perhaps you have a hardware problem, but you could try a hard reset just to be sure it's not the software configured incorrectly somewhere. Try the radio out before installing anything else.
I too find the radio volume to be too low. No such problem with music player.
I have the same problem. Audio Booster don't work with FM Radio.
Probably something wrong with Dutty's V3.3 XT ROM, in my previous ROM there was not those problems.
optxperiabeta02
I got this file from a Russian website. It worked very well on my Xperia. You'll probably have to turn down the system volumes a fair bit though.
Hi
I flashed my G1 with the lucidREM Mod of JFv1.5 and since then calls are unbelievable loud. The volume is as low as it can be for calls and I have to hold it about 2cm away from the ear, as the speaker is still so loud anyone in the room can hear what the person is telling me on the phone.
Is there a way to lower the volume besides the + - buttons?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like it may be in speakerphone mode. Start a call, open the menu, and switch it back to normal.
No, the speaker on the back is off. The small one you hold onto your ear is that loud!
I've recently updated to JFv1.5 as well and I'm not having any issues with volume. Admittedly the sound volume is louder for voice and media but when the volume is set to it's lowest levels it's a normal volume for phone calls; definitely not ear-splitting or anything.
Maybe you're hearing has improved dramatically overnight; been bit by a genetically-modified spider lately?
Hmmm... spiderbite, that would explain this huge red and hurting bitewound... i don't know. Unless I find this spider I would say it's the phone, not my ear
I'm running JF 1.5 ADP and in-call volume does not actually adjust here either - even though it shows it adjusting on the screen, the actual volume remains the same.
THAT sounds more like an explanation. Any solution?

I'd like to know myself. A friend with JFv1.5 says his in-call volume control is functioning properly. So what did we do wrong?
I am also experiencing the same problems.
Updated the radio, updated to JF's1.5, had to do an erase and all seems fine, just having this problem of volume in-call.
I can confirm its not in speaker mode and volume doesn't seem to change at all.
Help!
Hey all,
I swear when I first rooted and installed JF1.5 I had followed the directions and completed the step to update my radio to 2.22.19.29I - but I just double checked my baseband and it wasn't right - I reinstalled the radio update from http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip - and now the volume works.
Go to Settings > About Phone > Baseband
Make sure it says 2.22.19.26I
If it doesn't, update your radio again.
Make sure it says 2.22.19.29I
I think you mean 2.22.19.26I
I'm also having this problem on the dude's cupcake - really just in general over all phone firmwares, stock and modded. The call volume is on the loud side - but tolderable - on the lowest setting but UNBELIEVABLY LOUD in headphones on the same setting. My god, my friend said "Hey!" and i instinctually ripped off the headphones and threw them on the floor because of the volume. It really p*ssed me off. This is a phone for f*ck's sake. This is it's primary function. Get it right.
also, the media volume is not loud enough on it's loudest setting.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the volume rocker worked just fine. I my options ranged from unbelievably loud all the way up to "hear it in the next room" loud.
Did you folks who have loud volume wipe (alt+w in recovery) when installing JFv1.5? What applications did you install? What other hacks (a2sd, htc components) have you installed?

and other rinky dink little apps like Astrid and OI shopping and Labrynth and stuff like that
Other Hacks:
The Dude's default theme/template (i didn't dig the default Manup theme...too blue for me - although the transparent notification background was really cool)

Have you tried wiping and installing a completely bone stock JFv1.5 (no a2sd or anything else) and then checking call volume?
Flashed the radio update, since it wasn't on the phone.
Still doesn't work.
PS: Using the lucid modded version. But even with everything on the phone it wont change the call volume.
Have you tried re-flashing the ROM?? .. I had an issue before and just re-flashed the ROM and worked great!

When I talk on this phone, the sound is very poor... Although not too loud (like other complaints) but the sound crackles at high frequencies... The speakerphone is even worse...
Is anyone aware of some tweaks to improve communication sound on this phone?
Can AudioBooster be set up to work with the phone's sound not only the music player? Any other options ???
Thank you in advance.

I think the high volume on this phone is artificially boosted over what it's meant to be, i.e. HTC have modified the audiopara (or something like that) in the Windows folder to try and boost the speakers sound over what it's meant to be.
(Something that ROM coookers figured out on the Diamond I think).
I think, maybe someone can reduce those values back to normal? The speaker will be a little quieter, but it won't crackle or distort as much.

Which radio do you recommend? I have Leo_RADIO_2.07.50.27_2 and a terrible sound while on the phone.
Sound is to loud, impossible to lower volume enough. Much distortion even at lowest volume (which still is to loud). Bad sound in cable handsfree and BT handsfree.
Soundquality while playing music on the other hand is perfect in speaker, handsfree and BT handsfree.
Suggestions?
Since sound is often a pretty subjective matter, so I'd like to interject that the phone network only transmits from around 300 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Therefore the sound of a voice over your phone will never sound as clear and nice as it should, let alone like the 192 kbps-MP3-file you are playing
If it's worse compared to other phones however it's, as stated above, likely a problem with the radio. I use the 2.08.50.08_2 from [REF]The HTC HD2 Radio ROM Thread and have a quite decent quality.
I agree totally - if it sounds good or bad is individually. But, the sound quality in my HD2 is far worse than in my 5 years old SonyEricsson, and when I borrowed a Nokia the other day I was surprised how good (clear, crisp, distorsion free) a cell phone can sound.
I have a lot of distorsion and all too loud sound. Often I have to hold my phone 20 cm away from my ear just to avoid getting half deaf..
Thanks for the tip, I'll try the 2.08.50.08_2 Radio and hope for a better sound

Thanks, trying it now, will report back after tomorrow's hardcore testing at work..
Return it if you can...
I had Nokia E71 before and it's speaker is fo another level better than HD2... BUT, question is: when I'm gonna use speakerphone on my HD2? ... almost never
Seems better, but a little to subjective at the moment. Will keep trying and report back!
Definitely better after the patch. Quite good actually. I have not seen any side effects yet, only clear sound, and better volume.
Thanks for the hotfix!
Will try it on my colleague's phone also now.
sound quality
I used the hotfix as well but it appears to have made no difference whatsoever to the quality of sound during calls , so my phone is going back to htc again and if it returns with the same issues i will ask for a replacement as due to the ammoun of posts on here this is a major flaw in the phone and a highly irritating one too , i love this phone but the audio quality during calls is appalling in comparison to all my previous phones .
After a couple more days of testing I found out that the patch gave no effect at all. BUT: I found out another thing: Even though the system volume is at lowest according to the meter, if you increase, you actually lower the volume. So, if you during a call first increase and then decrease the volume, it gets acceptable. Still to loud though.
So, it seems like what HTC really should do is to get the dialer use the sound mixer properly. Today it is obviously oversteering which creates distorsion.
this is a war we won't win

I've bought my HD2 back in Dec the 11th and since then I've been in contact with HTC about fixing this problem. They've given me a debug tool to run on my device, sent the logs twice and so far they've done nothing about it. I've given up. What I do for outgoing calls, while it rings I turn the volume all the way up and then all the way down before the other party answers. doing this you get a decent sound. Can't do much about the incoming calls,
As far as flashing different radios and roms... I've flashed about 30time already. tried all the possible radio/rom combinations but with only slight different results. Nothing to brag about!
the fix I attached helps a little bit!
If anybody finds and cure let us all know! please!!!!!
Hi, Just got my HTC HD2 after a break from HTC handsets.
I've noticed when listening to music, even when turned up max, the music is quite quiet.
I've tried the audio booster but that seems to just do bass, vocal etc. not the overall volume.
On my old Omnia I had the same issue, but you could run SoundTester.exe and manually increase the db's.
But I don't seem to have that on the HD2.
Any ideas how to make the music louder? I mean walking past traffic & the music is easily drowned out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Maybe its the headphones? I have a set of fontopia headphones and on full volume it is properly painful.
Yeah my sennies get hilariously loud on full whack, suggest noise isolating as opposed to simple in ear. Once I got the correct sized ear adapter on em, even the tube cant intrude on my tunes
I'll check out srs wow thanks.
I'm using a set of Sony MDR-XD200 headphones at the moment, as I wasn't a fan of the standard HTC ones. They've been ok with other handsets & MP3 players (Except the omnia which had this problem too).

Do you remember on some of the old custom roms (I had one on my p3600) the audio broke and was really quiet, that is what this seems like.
But the SRS WOW has just about done the job, thanks
You know on normal windows mobile you can click on the speaker at the top and adjust ringing volume & device volume, I can't do that on the HD2, I can use the volume keys on the side, but that just does 1 generic volume, I was wondering if the device volume was set low, but I can't check it.

I'd say he needs some better headphones with higher impedence. I have Sennheisers and they are very very loud but then they are 70 Ohms
The only problem I have with my HTC HD2 as a music player is probably going to sound pretty minor. I have a set of Sennheisser in ear buds that I love and used to use on an iPod Touch. At it's loudest, the volume is a bit much for me usually, but the bar just below it I find isn't loud enough. Picky, I know, but it just seems like a big leap between volume levels. Is there any way of helping this?

Yep I have some too, dug them out last night to give them ago, no better really.
So I've tried Sennheiser Eco Ear Canal, Sony MDR-XD200 & the standard HTC ones packaged with the HD2.
All are too quiet, it's not my hearing, tried them all on the Omnia & they are deafening, also with the HD2 I can hear other stuff going on around me, cars, walking on gravel etc. Very strange others are not having this issue.

I had this issue. If you go to the volume screen that appears when you press the side volume buttons you can adjust the system volume by touching the bars to get gradual and precise volume increase/decrease. Using the toggle buttons makes it jump too much, stupid design imo.
Also the music player should have it's OWN volume control, instead it adjusts the entire system volume, again a ridiculous design flaw IMO also the volume graphic in the music player dissapears sometimes in rom 1.44, can't comment on other roms. I've had 2 HD2's and both have done the same thing.
Getting back to Junglist: I think you have a hardware issue mate, the full volume on this unit is very loud and even louder when used with audio booster. No one else has this problem. I use the sennheiser (spelling!) cx300's awesome headphones, and cheap
Talking of Audio booster again, in conjunction with the music player it is excellent, it handles the frequencies very well compared to say coreplayers eq that end up distorting the headphones with even minor bass frequency boosting. Using coreplayers pre amp is pointless also, complete distortion and hard to control, not very finger friendly.
It's such a shame about the Audio Booster switching itself off when jumping tracks even when it is left running in the background, it's only use therefore, is listening to long mixes. Too much of a pain to keep switching it back on after individual tracks You also have to switch it back on if you pause music and navigate away for a bit.
I hope HTC are aware of this and fix it in the next firmware update

25. Allow Audio Booster to Stay On.
Notice how after every song Audio Booster turns off again? A very simple solution is to press the Home button and not the "Done" softkey. This keeps Audio Booster running.
58. Keep Audio Booster Running After Each Song
Another way to keep Audio Booster running while playing music is to use the following reg tweak:
HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config\enter_su spend and change 1 to 0
Although I have left the booster off and the volume no higher than 85% as with my Sennheiser HD-25 professional monitoring/DJ headphones on its too loud above these settings. With other headphones I have tried I agree its a bit quiet but not too bad. Maybe you have deafened yourself by having your music too loud

Thanks mate but i know about them. The tweaks don't work
even when audiobooster is still in the background (and dutty's task manager says so) it still doesn't work. Sometimes it does though, it's a bit random.
It certainly doesn't work if you pause the music and come back to it
Tried Nitrogen? I downloaded the other day but its still sat on my sd card
