Im getting Parse Error when Im trying to install some .apk... I also tryed download the file again, but unsucessfull...
Where is the problem? a corrupted file? wrong app version in a wrong ROM version?
Sorry... my english is so poor...
Thanks!
Can you give more details. Did you download it from the market or somewhere else? What are you using to install it? What are you trying to install.

No... All the apps installed from the market is OK. Im tryng to install the PDFViewer.apk following the instructions mentioned in some thread here in XDA forum... but I had some problems with anothers detached apps... (ex: com.acme.android.powermanagerpro.apk)
How are you trying to install it? Are you using ADB or an app installer?
eoeAppInstaller... some many apps installs without a problem. others nope!
Do you have "allow install of non-market applications" checked under application settings.

Yes,.I have a lot of non-market apps installed from this appinstaller.
Thats why Im thinking in whats wrong...
Im trying to install mainly PDFViewer... as mentioned in
...showthread.php?t=515340
What happens when you type your commands in terminal emulator. Do you get an error in there.
What's the specific error? While installing the apk, monitor logcat's output for any specific messages.
Try AppManager or AppsInstaller and see if that solves your problem. You can install apps with these as well.
All commands in terminal was done with success following the PDFViewer thread... no errors are presented.
But... When I try to install the PDFViewer.apk with appinstaller, a message appears...
Parse Error
There is a problem parsing the package
(again: my english sux, plz dont piss in my mouth).
just install the pdf viewer the same way you installed the others.

Thats it... im trying to install like any other apps and im getting this error with eoeAppInstaller.
Code:
[B]Parse Error[/B]
There is a problem parsing the package
...
In the AppManager I can't see .apk files on my SD card... sounds strange...
---
Did you check logcat while installing the package? (adb logcat from terminal/command line) Logcat is more likely to contain specific info about why the install failed rather then a generic error message.
A problem parsing the package sounds like it can't unpack the AndroidManifest file, have you checked md5 sums of your downloads?

That most likely the exact problem. I posted in the relevant thread where your first reported the problem;
"Like what has been said before in this thread, try downloading it on your PC and transfering it over your usb cable. It sounds like you apk file is corrupt."

Im using the Root Explorer v2.10.2(which is the latest) to delete some unwanted system apks in system/apk folder, and im pretty sure i have already deleted those apks, but when i go into Settings->applications->manage applications, i still can find those deleted apks. Altho they are like 0 bite in memory, but still looks very annoying to me. Is there any way to get rid of those things in 'manage applications'? I have tried to search keywords in RootExplorer, and deleted the apk folders under data/data, and reboot my phone, and they are still there..
Also, if i click on any of those apks, "settings" will FC.

Glad that you got it solved.
Also I hope that you don't mind by I edited your title because your problem wasn't specifically related to the Root Explorer app. This problem would occur if you had used any other means of removing the system app. By editing the title it'll make it easier for those that need assistance with a similar issue post their problems and find solutions. Adding [Solved] is effective to let them know that a resolution is available within the thread.
And it's not my guide, it's a reference for others that can't find the answer with the apparently evasive search feature.
Hi All,
I am a new bee in this area. I have a Htc Desire (Bravo) rooted with S-Off. I have installed "HiApk 1.1 ROM with sense" but did not found the app Facebook for Htc Sense. I love that app as it automatically sync you Fb contacts to your phone with Pictue and other details.
After searching and reading lot, I found the HtcFacebook.apk to install that app.
But, When I am trying to install that app from sdcard after a small processing it says "Can not install application".
I have no idea how to do that, Please help me..
I'll be great full..

Thanks for the help. Yes I have downloaded the rom from that thread only and also downloaded the social app package.
But that package only contains the .apk file nothing else, and when I just try to install those my phone through a message e.g. "Application not installed".
I want some update.zip type package, which I can update from my recovery...!
whats the difference between normal facebook and facebook for htc sense?

The reason it says 'application not installed' is because it is supposed to be a system app and hence, is not signed. Thus, to 'install' that app, either create an update.zip yourself and flash via recovery or use a file explorer with the ability to access root folders (eg. root explorer) and copy the apk to /system/app or /data/app (if you do not have space in the system partition) and reboot the phone.

There is none to my knowledge.
Before Sense 3.5, Facebook for HTC Sense application was syncing contact photos with contacts, birthdays and events with calender and so on... Normal facebook application wasnt doing those stuff. I think, thats why he needs that application.
With Sense 3.5, phone is getting information from regular facebook application which we can download from market. It is asking for permission and than syncing all data like old times

I tried downloading both signed and unsigned versions of the app (htcfacebook.apk) and pasting it into system/app and rebooting and nothing happened except for a force close message upon reboot.
I tried putting in data/app and nothing happened either.
I tried putting it in a zip file pasting it into the SD card and rebooted into recovery CWM. I chose instal zip from SD card and it showed some progress then said "installation aborted".
Any help?
tried with no avail
I tried copying the files to system/app using root explorer but nothing happened. I tried putting them in a zip file and renaming it update.zip then installed it from recovery. Still nothing. any ideas?

I made a flash-able package with both system and META-INF folders and all that. Here it is. I tried installing it from recovery by applying sdcard/update.zip but it still says installation aborted. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

Run these command step by step in your terminal emulator window
# put HtcFacebook.apk in your sd card @ root
# su
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# cat /sdcard/HtcFacebook.apk > /system/app/HtcFacebook.apk
# cat /sdcard/HtcFacebook.apk > /sd-ext/app_s/HtcFacebook.apk
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

Hi.
I have a (rooted) UK Nook STG 1.2. I am trying to fix the PackageInstaller, but I seem not to be able to find the correct APK.
I tried one from CM5, but I get a Certificate Missmatch:
Code:
[email protected]:/tmp$ adb install -r system/app/PackageInstaller.apk
342 KB/s (41206 bytes in 0.117s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/PackageInstaller.apk
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_INCONSISTENT_CERTIFICATES]
Uninstalling the PackageInstaller and then installing the new APK is also not possible:
Code:
[email protected]:tmp$ adb uninstall com.android.packageinstaller
Failure
I read somewhere that using the PackageInstaller.apk from a Nook 1.1 rom would be possible, but I cannot find it. Could somebody point me to it or upload it, please?
Pretty please!
NookManager includes one from an older ROM that fixes package install problems.

7-Zip will let you open the .img and pull the .apk without burning it to a card. Its a great program for just about any type of archive file.

Hi everybody
When the factory images came out, I flash my N4 with the stock factory images that we used to find here : https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamkrt16s because it is now the KRT16S build
After a few days, when the KRT16S build came out, I was proposed in my phone to update it. I downloaded it, tried to flash it but nothing worked, I'm still on KRT16O and the OTA doesn't appear anymore... Then I remembered that I flashed a mod found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527525 (that's a great mod btw) so I guessed that I could reflash the undo file available on the thread, flash the ota file dl mannually (I attached it in this thread) which I did through TWRP. Then I was able to see the problem, it told me that, from what I remember, Agenda.apk was missing (I think it's diary in english, not sure) then I remembered that I manually deleted some apps I never use (diary is one of them...)
So, what's next, shall I reflash the gapps to finally update my phone
Thanks for your help

Try avoiding toolkits as they can lead to problems and leave you stuck with no idea what to do. Yes he is referring to the sdk. Only the platform-tools folder in the sdk is required so if you don't wanna bother downloading the complete file, just download the platform-tools from here and extract it to an appropriate location. Extract and move the Factory Image that you downloaded to your platform-tools directory. If you don't want your data to be erased, edit the flash-all script with a text editor and remove -w and save. Plug in your phone. Make sure you have the drivers installed. In the platform tools directory, press shift+right click> open command prompt here. Type adb devices. You will see "device <Serial Number>. If you don't, your drivers are faulty. Then type adb reboot bootloader. Once your phone has rebooted into bootloader, make sure that it is being detected by typing fastboot devices. You should see an output similar to adb devices. Now simply run the flash-all script and let it do its work. Reboot after flashing is completed.
Hope this helps!

Words of advice, learn how to use ADB instead of relying solely on toolkits. It's very simple actually.
Now there's a simple way to update which is sideload. Oh and btw to sideload, you still need ADB though (this is why learning ADB is VERY important to us, the N4 users). Here is a video tutorial on how to perform adb sideload. All the links are attached in his youtube video.

Yesterday, I installed PhoenixOS v2.5.9.375 on an old laptop, and I must say that I really like the Android experience on a laptop that I thought was too old to be good for anything. One problem that I am having though is that I cannot update Google Play Services which is preventing some of the GApps that I want to use from working. I tried using the instructions in this thread to fix the problem, but sadly they do not work with this version of the OS, and I get an error message saying "App not installed" when I try to fix it this way. I also so this, which looked promising until I learned that it requires a dual boot into Windows, and I am using PhoenixOS exclusively on my laptop, meaning that this is ruled out as an option.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am having the same issue with my Google Play Services, but the one I provided in the thread works with Google Play Games at least. I wonder why Phoenix OS comes with version number beginning with 070... This version is for x86 and for Android 4.0+ nodpi (according to apkmirror). Shouldn't Phoenix OS come with 270 or 480 since Phoenix OS 64-bit runs on Android 7.1.1 (32-bit runs on 5.1)? If so, my instinct is telling me that we have to forcefully install the updated Google Play Services (probably along with Google Play Store and Google Services Framework) to get it working correctly. This cold probably be done with root, so at least we know we can fully root the OS and work our way from there.
I have that problem also before... I downloaded the updated Google Play service in apkmirror, tried to manually installed it but still it wont install... But what I did in order to fix it is first to disable the Play Service on the App Settings and then I use Root Explorer to locate the location of the Gplayservice which is /system/priv-app/GmsCore. so what I did i rename the GPlayService that I downloaded into GmsCore.apk and then replace the app on /system/priv-app/GmsCore and change permission to "rw-r-r". and re-enabling back the GPlayService on that App Settings and reboot.... at Viola its fix... now I dont have an error on it anymore...

Thank you for the info, this looks very promising, please could you let us know which version you downloaded
Hi all,
This is how I got it working, several ways actually:
Using the toolkit http://bbs.phoenixstudio.org/en/showthread.php?tid=9661
Extract the system.img from the downloaded installation EXE or copy the system.img from your install directory
Make sure you download the GAPPS7.1 in the above post and put it in the \tools directory of the toolkit
Follow the toolkit to unpack/update GAPPS/repack
Copy the system.img back to your installed directory (C:\PhoenixOS)
Hacking it yourself
Download the latest GAPPS 7.1 PICO
Replace the APK in the GAPPS package over the ones installed on your PhoenixOS
Does this method require you to have a dual boot setup? Because I don't.
Android PC tool works!!
Used the PC tool and it worked flawlessly. On another note i have been trying to tinker with the OS and found out that the system cannot be mounted as r/w. Tried the command
Code:
su mount -o rw,remount /system
which gives me /dev/loop0 is write-protected mounting read-only. Is there any way fix to this.

Hi all,
This is how I got it working, several ways actually:
Using the toolkit http://bbs.phoenixstudio.org/en/showthread.php?tid=9661
Extract the system.img from the downloaded installation EXE or copy the system.img from your install directory
Make sure you download the GAPPS7.1 in the above post and put it in the \tools directory of the toolkit
Follow the toolkit to unpack/update GAPPS/repack
Copy the system.img back to your installed directory (C:\PhoenixOS)
Hacking it yourself
Download the latest GAPPS 7.1 PICO
Replace the APK in the GAPPS package over the ones installed on your PhoenixOS

Hi, I put the gapps in the tools directory, but I don't understand what you mean by follow the toolkit to unpack/update GAPPS/ repack. Am I supposed to make those folders? When I go to the unpack folder, just my system image is in there.
