Can someone please benchmark R3A and post? - XPERIA X1 General

For example, with SKTools "Benchmark" program?
You could also post real-life before-after comparisons (eg Window folder opening)
Here's what I get with stock R2A NAM running the amazing SBP shell 3.0.1 and 8 Gb card plus typical SKTools speed optimization tweaks:
Integer: 325.4
Floating point: 7.4
RAM access: 995
Draw bitmaps: 772
Main storage (write): 1940
Main storage (read): 6700
Storage card (write): 1072
Storage card (read): 2725
I'll put in your comparison if you would be so kind as to post.

Anyone? Please? You would help all of us R3A skeptics out here!

Hey, thanks a lot!
Is that stock R3AA you tested?
If so, no major differences, I guess. Slightly faster RAM access?
Wow, was that SKTools that you used to crank up your card read speeds, or did you also use SD tuneup?

yes stock R3AA. the only tune up is via SKtools (in attempt to keep all things else equal ) and it does look like RAM access and floating point are the only area that's better than R2AA. I'm not sure why my card read speeds improve by 3 folds, I only did the 6 improvement area.
One thing I do find the overall performance of the phone is better, most significant improvement is the youtube video playback. There's no video stuttering which happens in the R2AA ROM. As for the rest (as in the perceived improvement) it might be due to a clean/hard-reset state. Only times will tell.

usual stuff, file system cache size, glyph cache, etc. nothing extra ordinarily.

Ok thanks mate... its pretty much what I do anyway... did you have any trouble with advanced config and R3?

Memory allocation problem

I've upgraded my Magician with Anansky's big_storage rom... I want to use as much of the memory as possible for Program memory as opposed to Storage memory, so I load up the Memory Settings and slide the pointer from Program towards Storage... however, it seems to reset the pointer straight to the middle if I leave it a few seconds... even although I am keeping the pointer between the two markers (within the blue area).
The only program I am running is Spb plus.. does anyone know why I can't set the program memory higher than the default?
Memory Settings reports:
Total main memory: 57.41Mb
Storage
Allocated: 26.64
In Use: 7.81
Free: 18.43
Program
Allocated: 31.17
In Use: 12.68
Free: 18.49
I face the same problem in Blueangel also,
by trial and error I found that around 92-95 megs out of total of 128 megs, remains stable and does not slide back. u can try yr optimum config.

Memory SPEED - Internal vs. ExtROM vs. StorageCard

Microsoft said in WIN2003SE it's always recommended to install mostly used programs into MAIN memory cause it's way way way faster than the extended rom or storage card. So on my old PDA2k I installed regularely used programs like Pocket Informant, Voice Command etc.. on the internal memory for enhanced speed.
I was wondering if anyone knows/ did benchmarks of Read/Write/Access Speed of all 3 memory mediums available to us JJ/Exec users ? That is Internal memory, Extended Rom (Which was unlocked thanks to buzz) as well as an SD Card.
Thanks guys
MOBILER
I have a 60x SD card - at least I am TOLD it is a 60x card - but Pocket Mechanic benchmark tells me it is just 4x. (Perhaps someone else who has PM could give us THEIR SD card benchmark figures for comparison?)
It was suggested on this forum the problem might not be in the card but in the SD port. If so, the Universal's SD port could be a serious hindrance to good performance.

Camera low memory? y? i have 2gig

hello everybody! my question is y does the default camera say i have low memory when i have a 2gig mem card n my camera is set to save in the memory card not device memory if somebody could answer my question id greatly appricate it!
Try something like memmaid to find out what's using your memory.
Remember, install all programs to Storage Card - not just the camera files.
Your Storage - ie internal memory, should only be used for absolute essentials to keep your phone perky.

I think you'll find it means "Program Memory" (RAM) not "Storage Memory"
You should either close some programs down (goto Settings/system/memory/running programs) or SOFT reset your device with a single press of the button on the side (This will NOT format your device)
Memaid should help you. Click the icon with the PIE Graph, to see what's using your 2 gigs.
Or maybe you card is corrupted, try a format your card if you can't find the problem.

Amount of Free RAM memory decreases with use of storage card

Hi,
I have a problem with the RAM memory usage with the storage card. When i insert the memory card, the amount of Free RAM memory decreases instantly with almost 5Mb. When i remove the memory card, the amount of Free RAM memory increases with 5Mb again.
Some of my friends, who have a Wizard (QTEK9100 or MDA VARIO) also, have a memory drop of 0,5 to 1Mb. Why do i have so much?
I'm using FARIA WM5 ROM:
Windows Mobile 5, OS 5.1.461 (Build 15671FARIA.3.5)
I have installed a lot of programs on the storage card. Could that be the reason? The programs are not running at the moment of insert/remove of the miniSD card.
Regards,
Creda

maybe it not reason, but...
whats in /hklm/system/storagemanager/fatfs/cachesize key?
i believe that it's normal behavior,
Faria said it would happen in one of his releases (aku 3.3 i think)
In /hklm/system/storagemanager/fatfs/cachesize key:
Cachesize: 8196
DataCacheSize: 8196
I've decreased both sizes to 4096 and i have more free RAM memory now.
With 4096, it cost about 2Mb with Storage Card.
I am still testing, but this may be the reason of the huge memory drop with the storage card.
Thanks Nothin!

Turbo Speed X1 - ROM 1 - Performance Thread, tweaks and benchmarks

Here it is the thread you all been waiting for, these simple tools and freely avaliable software will turbo charge your X1 into the stratosphere, safely, consistantly and error free, upto 8 X faster !!!
To check these wild claims use SKTools 5 supplied here, within there is a benchmark program to test key paramenters like Video speed and Memory Card speeds, run benchmark a few times to get a consistant reading.
View attachment SKTools5.CAB
To find the Bench mark Program: Click Catagory at the bottom, then Information, then you will find the benchmark program.
1) Turbo charge your micro SD card.
View attachment 137353
This simple program written by XDA developers will increase the read speed of your micro SD card by a facter of 8 !
Benchmark before program: Read Speed: 2,000 approx
Benchmark after program: Read Speed: 16,000 approx
2) Turbo charge your graphics
Within SkTools5 there is a program called Optimize, it is under the first catagory : Standard. It will automatically pick 3 settings that can be adjusted, tick Font Cache Size and TCP window size. Then click the Action button at the bottom, make sure Performance is ticked and then click Optimize. The program will then do a soft reset.
Using Benchmark: Draw bitmaps: before Optimize: around 180, pathetic ! a 5 year old can draw faster than that.
Using benchmark: Draw bitmaps: after Optimize : around 780 - wow ! i-robot speed ha ha
Thats 4 X graphics - its smokin !
3) General performace tweaks
View attachment Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB
Using Advanced Configuration settings, under performances check these settings.
File System Cache: Enabled
File System cache size: 8mb
File system filter cache: 16384 sectors
Glyph cache: 32 kb
The effect of all these tweaks and enhancements means I can play 800 x 480 video perfectly just like TV, and Touch 3D is silky smooth and fast.
These are not idle claims, my X1 has vastly improved performance all round, I am finally happy with my X1, it rocks, bring on that iphone and our 'cuz' the Touch HD.
With this site.
And a bit of insight.
Through our will.
And XDA Developer skill.
The X1 is...the king of the hill
View attachment 137362
thanks a lot. Will try out later
Don't see much of a difference but then again i had most of these tweaks already in with the exception of the sd card read/write speed increase.
I did these tweaks and like Bxsteez only the SD card read speed increased.. from around 2000kb to 15-16k kb... However the bitmat draw speed was already 781 from the start.. perhaps there are ways to evern further increase it?
And what more can we do?
Thank you so much!
Increasing the filesystem cache improved my file navigation. The Windows folder used to take a long time to display, now it's faster.
Can't see much improvement on the display though. BTW, any trade offs in terms of battery life with the tweaks?
Thanks for the tnyynt SD TuneUP.cab and it indeed make the Micro SD Card reading faster.
However, the Advanced Config program is not so good compared to another version I have as I cannot find many section like the calendars etc.
Thanks for your effort anyway.
Can anyone say what the dispaly/graphics tweaks do? Are they modifying certain registry entries?
Could someone tell us what is exactly changed, so we don't need to download that program, and can manually edit the registry entries?
Same for the SD Card tweak, what exactly is being changed here?
For learning for us all, I think it is much more interesting and important to know what is being done and being applied so we can learn from it and improve further, than just blindly install .CAB files!
I believe you can use advanced config to do all of those tweaks with the exception of the sd card tweak. I have no idea what is being done there.
The fastest X1 in the west !
After all your tweaking and performance enhancements, its time to put your X1's on the track. Tick all 6 benchmark catagories in SKTools5 and run the test, if anyone consistantly gets higher than any of these results please post your results, and any explanation or tools you may have to help us all improve.
Rules, there are none, may the fastest X1 win !
Custom Roms entries are welcome , any smokin hot rods out there ?
I have a stock Rom with a 16 gb sd card

Can you brake the 800 barrier on Bitmaps ?
Can your SD card out run the 17,000 sound barrier

Hmmm whats the down side of applying all those tweaks?
battery life?
heat?
Can we undo all of those changes and get the phone back to what it was just in case something goes wrong ?
Thanks
what about the camera recording/encoding at vga?
any enhancement with these tweaks?

memory leaks = more freq. soft resets. they're all just registry changes so easy to revert.

What are you talking about? Most tweaks are just use more memory for caching to increase performance. The SD cab probably just enable DMA to increase throughput. All of them has nothing to do w/ memory leak.
BTW, why use SKtool instead of SPB Benchmark? SPB takes much longer but provide more detail.
