Only MP3 file can be select in Sound Notification? - XPERIA X1 General

Using WM 6.5 21222 build, phone ring tone is ok to select every wav and wma file in windows folder. but for New SMS text message , MMS, Reminder, blah blah blah, only MP3 files that less than 500K are displayed in drop down menu. I've install NoFileSizeLimited.cab, found in this forum, no luck. try to search key in Registry for Filesizelimit, still no luck....

New text message sound

Hi, I have installed many ringtones (mp3) into the rings directory of windows, and I am able to use them as ringtones. How can I use an mp3 for the sound alert of a new text message. What directory does it need to be in. I have tried windows/rings but it wont see it for text messages. Do I have to use a specifig media format for text mesages. I even tried renaming an mp3 to mid and it still doesnt see it.
Please help
Put it into Windows directory, and they can only be in .wav format.
Thanks !

sms ring tones

hi i just sorted out how to use an mp3 as a ring tone with out a patch is there any way i can use an mp3/wav file as a ring tone for an sms ?
sms tones
Hi there.
Actually, there is a way to use wav files for sms tones.
Put your desired wav file in the \windows folder.
Go to Notifications, messaging:new text message and voila! use your wav file as your SMS tone.
Not with MP3, that is not possible!
well i lied a bit lol ! an mp3 converted to a wav file almost an mp3 !!! tried the above still cant get it to add it to the standard ring tones ie the alarm1 alarm 2 and so on !
ive only had phone for a month so please in very easy english lol
how do i get an wav file in to this bit of the phone ???
from the active>settings>sounds&notifications>notifications
1 select an event
change that to inbox:new sms message
2 select how to be notified
tick box play sound then in the sound box all i can get is
alarm 1 , 2, 3, 4, default ,hwandsw ,infbeg ,infend ,loudest ,lowbatt ,menupop msgbox ,notify ,online ,quietest ,recend ,type ,voicbeep
pleas ecould some one tell me how to get a wav file in there with out a patch would be lovley !
i have tryed every thing that i can think off !

Sms more rings how solution.
Copy a wav file in the windows directory (in your PDA),, now go to Sound & Notification and see if you got that file under "TEXT MESSAGE" in the list. :? :?
Sidd
thanks guys got that sorted now !!

Assigning own .wav file for new text messages

Hi - i can assign custom ringtones for incoming calls.. but not for text messages.
Anyone know how i can change this?
Thanks guys.
(Running on XDA mini S with ROM: 2.16.9.1 WWE)
Place the wav/mp3 etc you want assigning to an SMS tone in the Windows directory, these will then appear in the list for assigning to SMS/Alarms etc
i have tons of wavs in that directory that do not show up when i try to change the notification in Sound Notifications. Anyone know what im missing?
have u tried place the wav to \windows\rings\ ?
PS:the wav files should be within certain bitrates.
yup... if u do that it will work for incoming calls... but NOT FOR TEXT MESSAGES... still haven't figured out how to for texts
I've placed some MP3s in the Windows directory on the device and it works for SMS's. Not sure about wav files though.
how are you assigning the sms sounds? through "sounds and notifications"? cause if i place an mp3 in the windows directory, it does not show up as a selection. i assume it can only read .wav

MP3 as Email Alert and other Notifications

Yo all,
This may have been posted before but i can't find where! Please point me in the right direction if it has!
Anyhow, is there any way of setting custom MP3's or WAV's as a notification such as New Email, and New MMS.
I have heard of Ringo but i believe that only caters for standard ringtone and sms alerts (please correct me if i'm wrong)
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Peace!
It has been but I am too lazy to find it, u can create a wav file an put it in the windows folder(pretty sure), then u can select it from the drop down list.
Ringo.....more so if you were a palm user is that useful
in WM5 you can only use MP3 files as ringtones and not SMS/MMS/Email alerts. You (however) can use .wav files as alerts. Convert your alerts into .wav files (leave your ringtones as MP3s) and copy them all into the windows folder on the device.
The alerts and tones will be available now in the "start>settings>sounds & notifications" menu.
In WM6 you can use MP3s as both alerts and ringtones.
I myself was surprised by the lack of MP3 alerts in WM5.
Yo,
Cheers for the info, however i did think about the copying a wav to the windows directory but it does not appear in the list.
Also i am using WM6 (Latest LVSW ROM 26/03/2007) but i cannot see where i can set the mp3's as alerts.
mmmmmm a little confused now lol
Don't worry about the WAV thing in windows directory, i have that working now (i was being daft!)
Also I tried copying over an mp3 sound and its now available in the drop down list too (me being daft springs to mind again)
Thanks for your help peeps and sorry if i wasted your time.
Peace!

Firstly, when you copy the files to Windows do this via activesync (hidden files and folders must be shown in windows on the pc). Next when you set the various alerts you select what event (ie Unread text message) and then select the alert options. An easy program to set several profiles is phonealarm.
i used ease audio converter to shrink the file and convert the mp3 to wav. works fine for me...
Just for clarification; On an WM6 I can still place the MP3 file I want to use for an sms alert in the Windows Folder? You mentioned that on WM5 you can place the wav files into the windows folder and it will work, is it the same for WM6 with an mp3 file?

here how to change the sms tone!

hi,
So some people are asking how to change the sms tone and put there own!
first what you need is a mp3-wav file converter! Roxio can do it or "google" for it there are some free apps able to do it!
2. Convert your mp3 sms tone in the .wav format
3. Put your *.wav file in the folder my device/my documents/my ringtones
4. Go to start/settings/sounds and notifications
select notifications and event : messaging : new text message
select your converted wav file in the ring tone menu
5. done
Ps : there are 2 wav sms tones in the files below, simply put them in the my ringtones folder
Bye fabien

what doesn't show up?
Try dropping a MP3 directly into the Windows folder it should show up under all types of alerts then. When I put it into ringtones or rings it will only let me apply it as a ring tone not alert tone. I have not tried a WMV every thing I have is MP3 and there is a decent MP3 trimmer on the LEO so you just pick your start and end point and drop it directly into the Windows folder.

Sorry, The .wav file that I drop into the directory that you suggest. It doesn't show up as an available option when trying to change the tone for SMS.
I'll try dropping it into the Windows directory, as suggested above.

That worked Now I can use my Yoda Message again.
Mmmm, sms tone in the windows folder, there is.....
you can put all alert tones (.wav, .mp3 depending on what alert you want some can use both) into \Storage Card\My Documents
The phone will then find them.
You can cut and paste all the tones from phone memory to here to save some space. (Maybe not strictly needed on HD2 but useful on my previous phone - Diamond)
The \Storage Card\My Documents\Ringtones (or Rings or My Ringtones) never worked for me previously, I havent tried on HD2 but maybe this will help?
cheers

While this does work, the problem with this is that all your ringtones and alerts will show up in your music library.
I've found that putting your ringtones (activated when someone calls you) into your phone's memory, under Windows\Rings folder will work.
For alerts, for some reason this will not work - despite the fact that there are already numerous alert files in there (prefixed by 'Alert-somefile.wma'). To get Alerts to show up you need to actually put them into the phones memory, under the Windows directory.
If you do this, the ringtones and alerts will NOT show up in your music librar but you will be able to select them for ringtone/alert purposes.
there must be a way to add a folder as an exception in the music player just like how you can in the Photo/video album

When you say drop it directly into the windos folder where do I find that folder? When I go into my phone memory I get the following folders:-
Application Data
Conn Mgr
Documents and settings
MUSIC
My documents
Program Files
To use a mp3 for notifications, you need to place the sounds into the following folder
device------application data-----SOUNDS
all the files here will then show up as being available for all notifications ie mail, sms, mms, email etc
ringtones need to be in the ringtone folder, or just press and hold on the file you want to set as a ringtone from file explorer, you will get a menu popup with the option to set the file as a ringtone, it will then be automatically be copied into the ringtone folder aswell.
Hope this helps a little..
